[LFP][5E] Casual game

A friend of mine wants to get into D&D so we're going to spin up a game on Discord and Roll20 playing one of the pre-made campaigns from WotC. We'd like to find some people to play with us knowing that this will be a slower-moving, pretty casual, and very beginner friendly game. Details Schedule: Weekly or Every Other, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 7pm-11pm CDT (this will be better defined as we add a person or 2 and lock down the exact schedule) When does this start: Ideally I'd like to start this game on 4/14, 4/15, 4/21 or 4/22. Experience level: None to Intermediate. I think any more seasoned players will get a little impatient or bored with some of the initial pacing of the game until we all get more comfortable as a group and speed things up a bit. Commitment: Long. The campaigns on the list tend to run from levels 1-11 or 1-15 and it'll most likely take 15-30 sessions to clear some of these campaigns, so expect to be on board for 6-12 months if everything works out. If you're thinking this could be a challenge, you may want to look for a shorter campaign to hop into...because losing people in the middle of a campaign suuuucks for everyone. If the campaign goes well and everyone wants to keep playing with the same group afterwards, I may run another campaign following this. Looking for: We're looking for 2-4 players who are somewhere between entirely new to ones who have played some RPGs who want to embark on a very casual but dedicated round of adventuring. I'd prefer players be 18 or order and have the openness of schedule to commit to this game. Style of play: Casual. I love to have a group who is dedicated to the story, to being part of the story, and realize that they're here to write the story with me. I don't do well at voices, but I do like to play engaging NPCs and love telling a good story. Players can RP as much or as little as they want, but it won't be forced. I encourage everyone to play in a fashion that you have the most fun playing in. Material: We'll be sticking with the core players handbook for the most part for character creation, but I'm always flexible with the rules if there's something someone wants to try, so long as it doesn't prove to be a huge negative impact to the story or other players. I'm open to a few peeks into Xanathar's or something else if it'll add the flavor the player wants. How this will all go down: If we can get a solid group together, we'll settle on a day/time, a start date, and which campaign we're going to play. Our first night will be Session Zero, where we build our characters together. Depending on how fresh the group is, we'll spend a lot of time going through character creation, the stats used in playing the game, how the rounds go, our character's backstories and how the group has or will come together and embark on their journey. If time permits, we'll probably do a play round of combat just to go through the process and get familiar (and roll some dice!). About me: I'm a clown. Not like the red nosed circus kind or the hiding in the sewers kind, but I'm witty in a way that I hope others find amusing too. My other group didn't pick out tokens for their characters before Session 1, so I assigned South Park tokens for our D&D characters. We're still using them a half a year later and I still giggle each time I see them. I'm an intermediate level DM, and I love telling a good story. I'm quick to improvise, and always keep my focus on making sure everyone in the group is having a good time, me included. What I lack in experience (I will look stuff up from time to time) I mostly make up for in effort. I will spend the time to write a story that intertwines into the backstories of my adventurers so that each character has skin in the game. I started playing D&D in 2nd Edition and played for about 7-8 years during grade school and high school, with a long hiatus until about 2 years ago when I was reintroduced to 5e. Been back and loving it ever since, and can't get enough D&D in my life. If you managed to read through all that and still want to join up on this crazy train to... somewhere... let me know!
I would love to join. I originally started playing in 2and edition, have experience with 3ed and 3.5, however have never played a 5e session. I've been looking for a solid group that is reliable for general rp shenanigans and memorable time. I enjoy almost any type of game, and love a mix of both rp and combat. I have a couple character concepts I would love to play.
I'm certainly interested. I've spent more time pouring over rule books than I've been able to play. I feel downright Wizardly. I'd love the opportunity to talk to you and the people you're collecting to see if I'm the right fit for this game.
It does look really interesting! My timezone is Est and tuesday would be the best day for me! My discord is Ferelon#7031. Message me if you still have a spot open!
Limited experience, but definitely interested in a long term, committed group. Time zone is ADT so the earlier side of suggested times work best for me
TLDR : I'm searching for a group for some online D&D 5E shenanigans during this Pandemic we've all been involuntarily shoved into. Feel free to leave a message here or contact me via discord. Name/alias: Ed Discord tag: RedXMerc#3279 Experience: Veteran, started with 3.0 when it was released. Location/Timezone : Hawaii Standard Time Game style: Roleplay & Mechanics even mix, casual enough to let the roleplay breath. (Not interested in meat grinders, edgelord worlds, or west marches) Availability: I'd rather play after 3PM-ish HST (9PM EST/6PM PST) so that I can keep with the group once work picks up again. I've got more hours available right now, but that's due to the pandemic, so I want to start in hours I know I'll have long term. I've got a good low level campaign for my Saturdays so far, but I'm still in the market for another game that could run at a higher level, probably 5+, that would fit my extra time, or would keep me playing if my saturday game ends after this adventure. Experience: I played a lot in previous years, but set it aside for a while due to job and family, but have recently picked it up again. My experience is mostly from D&D 3.0/3.5, but I have played some 4.0, 5.0, Cyberpunk, Star Wars, Shadowrun, and White Wolf, with each campaign being a good mix of mechanics and roleplay. I'm really liking 5.0 and want to get more experiences with it. I've done a little in Roll20, but I'm still learning and getting comfortable with online play. I have Discord and Skype if those are prefered over Roll20's video and voice functions. Campaigns I'm looking for: I'm looking for games where I can immerse into playing some high fantasy adventure with a variety of themes where characters can develop through challenges. I'm ok with 18+ themes and bad stuff happening (it'd be great to have a group where I don't have to worry about an errant cuss word or two), but I'm trying to avoid super dark or meat grinder campaigns. Roaming around to see the bright and dark spots of a fantasy world would be fantastic, and homebrew or book-modified worlds are very welcome. I like most of the adventure WotC has put out, with the exceptions of Tomb of Annihilation and anything involving Ravenloft. However I'm not interested in west marches, as I've seen such campaigns either become the biggest personality overruling everyone, or try to become "communities" trying to suck in players like an MMO in what feels like a pyramid scheme. Characters I'm looking to play (Just a long list of example characters, all the important stuff is above): Not exclusive to these characters, as I often like to fill gaps in a party's resources, but here are some example characters I'd like to play. Character Name: Lysandra "Lizzy" Starlance Character Race and Gender: Aasimar Female Wanted Class and Subclass: Paladin (Oath of Heroes) / Bard (College of Swords) Character Alignment: Neutral Good Overview: An idealistic young paladin of a knightly order who ran off before taking her oath, hiding from her previous life by traveling disguised as a wandering performer. She's evading the pressure of expected heroism and noble standing to try living free among regular folk, all the while fearing its all just a temporary reprieve from some enclosing destiny. Character Name: Alpha the Bloodhound Character Race and Gender: Gnoll Male (Gnoll race found at https://www.dndbeyond.com/ races/42361-free-gnoll , willing to discuss features, if unacceptable would change to Shifter) Wanted Class and Subclass: Ranger (Bloodhound - Homebrew that can be found at https://www.dndbeyond.com/ subclasses/114817-bloodhound , if considered unacceptable would use multiclass Fighter with Rogue Inquisitive) Character Alignment: Neutral Good Overview: A cynical bounty hunter who's trying to grow past monstrous origins to be a productive lawful member of society, despite a penchant for intimidation and aggressive tactics. Though more than willing to play the part of the bad guy, he hopes to fulfill the role of a lawbringer (think of an old west marshall, but a gnoll). Has a soft spot for kids and happy families, and hopes to reunite with his twin sister who was taken away by an order of monks after a failed raid. Character Name: Myrra the Seeker Character Race and Gender: Gnoll Female (Gnoll race found at https://www.dndbeyond.com/ races/42361-free-gnoll , willing to discuss features, if unacceptable would change to Shifter) Wanted Class and Subclass: Monk (Way of the Five Animals - Homebrew that can be found at https://www.dndbeyond.com/ subclasses/71548-way-of-the- five-animals , if considered unacceptable would use Way of the Open Hand.) Character Alignment: Neutral Good Overview: A willful, free minded Gnoll who was separated from her clan at adolescence by a Monk who wished to prove that her kind could be be instilled with patience and discipline, she herself became a monk seeking to prove that the violent instincts of her background can be channeled into a productive fighting discipline. She is Alpha's twin sister and does not know that he is alive and searching for her. Character Name: Alicia Nerianys Character Race and Gender: Kalashtar Female Wanted Class and Subclass: Warlock (Pact of the Lady of the White Well - Homebrew that can be found at https://www.dndbeyond.com/ subclasses/106103-the-moonlit- lady , if considered unacceptable would play an Archfey Pact Warlock) Character Alignment: Chaotic Good Overview: An adventurous soul that has romantic leanings toward her patron, who demands of her that she seek out the most exciting experiences for her amusement. She seems more insightful than her years would suggest, due to the benefits of a life rich with travel and culture and a continual curiosity for more. She is more than willing to life half as long as she should if it means that time is twice as eventful. Character Name: Searing Solomon Character Race and Gender: Kalashtar Male Wanted Class and Subclass: Monk (Way of the Sun Soul) Character Alignment: Chaotic Good Overview: A monk who lost his way and for a time made his living as a pirate, he made a reputation for himself for being "odd" by showing an unusual perception and fighting abilities. He wanders, not judging people for their choices, but simply absorbing that they are who they are. He can find morality rather subjective, and values experiences over any specific legal tenets. Character Name: Aveela Yi Shaza Character Race and Gender: Tiefling (Winged Variant) Female Wanted Class and Subclass: Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) Character Alignment: Lawful Good Overview: A flamboyant and aggressive member of an order of Paladins called "The Helldroppers", she is a punisher of evil who loves dispatching her foes from the sky. She takes a special thrill in wreathing herself in fire, dropping into a dive from high above, screaming vengeance as she unleashes her smite upon impact. When that doesn't fill her time she's generally just sticking her nose in other's business. Character Name: Nordaine Thundercrash Character Race and Gender: Goliath (Either) Wanted Class and Subclass: Fighter (Cavalier) Character Alignment: Chaotic Good Overview: A former raider turned adventurer who seeks out battle with incredible foes while seeking to found a unique mount with which to form a strong bond and together craft their legend. A very direct person who doesn't hide much, but is very adamant about protecting companions by dominating the attention of enemies or just charging down any that would dare challenge the party in the first place.
