D&D 4E/AD&D GMT +1

Lol, just read the above post. Will we be using a 32 point buy system? It a fairer way of everyone having similar power characters, makes sense in my mind.
How does the point system work? Do we all start with something like a base of 9 and each extra number on our ability scores cost 2 points?
Point buy for Pathfinder and D&D Struggling to find one for 2nd, but guess the 3.5 one should do the job... Just ideas of course.
Rolling Ability Scores Let's first see how to generate ability scores for your character, after which definitions of each ability will be given. The six ability scores are determined randomly by rolling six-sided dice to obtain a score from 3 to 18. There are several methods for rolling up these scores. Method I: Roll three six-sided dice (3d6); the total shown on the dice is your character's Strength ability score. Repeat this for Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Chrisma, in that order. This method gives a range of scores from 3 to 18, with most results in the 9 to 12 range. Only a few characters have high scores (15 and above), so you should treasure these characters. Alternative Dice-Rolling Methods Method I creates characters whose ability scores are usually between 9 and 12. If you would rather play a character of truly heroic proportions, ask your DM if he allows players to use optional methods for rolling up characters. These optional methods are designed to produce above-average characters. Method II : Roll 3d6 twice, noting the total of each roll. Use whichever result you prefer for your character's Strength score. Repeat this for Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. This allows you to pick the best score from each pair, generally ensuring that your character does not have any really low ability scores (but low ability scores are not all that bad any way!). Method III: Roll 3d6 six times and jot down the total for each roll. Assign the scores to your character's six abilities however you want. This gives you the chance to custom- tailor your character, although you are not guaranteed high scores. Method IV: Roll 3d6 twelve times and jot down all twelve totals. Choose six of these rolls (generally the six best rolls) and assign them to your character's abilities however you want. This combines the best of methods II and III, but takes somewhat longer. As an example, Joan rolls 3d6 twelve times and gets results of 12, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15, 9, 12, 6, 11, 10, and 7. She chooses the six best rolls (15, 12, 12, 11, 10, and 10) and then assigns them to her character's abilities so as to create the strengths and weaknesses that she wants her character to have (see the ability descriptions following this section for explanations of the abilities). Method V: Roll four six-sided dice (4d6). Discard the lowest die and total the remaining three. Repeat this five more times, then assign the six numbers to the character's abilities however you want. This is a fast method that gives you a good character, but you can still get low scores (after all, you could roll 1s on all four dice!). Method VI: This method can be used if you want to create a specific type of character. It does not guarantee that you will get the character you want, but it will improve your chances. Each ability starts with a score of 8. Then roll seven dice. These dice can be added to your character's abilities as you wish. All the points on a die must be added to the same ability score. For example, if a 6 is rolled on one die, all 6 points must be assigned to one ability. You can add as many dice as you want to any ability, but no ability score can exceed 18 points. If you cannot make an 18 by exact count on the dice, you cannot have an 18 score That's what the PHB says on the matter.
Method VI should work. I used IV though. The only problem I have with a 32 point-buy system is that I'll be tempted to have a DEX of 18 and high other stats, which would might get annoying to the others
What about proficiencies? What kind of things do we need/should we choose? And what are your restrictions on ability scores, Jeremy? I feel like I should tell you that currently my character is/will be in this to do good for the world while still making a fortune, because he is an orphan in a human town where he was hated for his elven heritage.
Ok here's how the point buy system will work. You will have 80 points to disperse among all off the stats , each point equals 1 point of ability score up to 18. You may have one score at the minimum of three, otherwise every stat must be at least an 8. No more than two 18 s before racial bonus. If you have a racial modifier that would drop a stat lower than three , you must use a point to bring it up. Must have semi realistic stats Example: Warrior str 18 , dex 17, con 18, int 3 ,wis 9, cha 15 If you have 18 strength you can have a maximum of 17 in dex after bonus and vica versa, same with intelligence and wisdom. Con and Cha have no restrictions. Also note that I allow any race to play any class. But level caps still apply.
As far as proficiencies go, everyone should always have swimming, you wouldn't want to kill the dragon and die on the way home because you drowned in the river. Also everyone should have at least one gatherer/ workable skill like mining, or weapon smithing, etc. any other skills are completely up to you.
Thanks for clearing that up! I'll go with leather working and dancing plus swimming like you said. Can we start playing tomorrow if everyone is ready?
Unfortunately I need about a week to prepare my side of the campaign, we would be starting next weekend most likely.
YAY! Looking forward to it. I found a new player if that's alright with you.
Yeah just tell em to introduce themself
Hey, since you said realistic do you consider this to be realistic: 12 str, 18 dex, 12 con, 13 int, 12 wis, 13 cha?
Time frame works for me, good to know we have a group going. Cheers for info on point buy, will build Elven Ranger over next few days and post results. Looking forward to next weekend.
Hey, I'm new to RPG's, I think I'll need some guidance, just read the whole thread, I'll probably need some help learning how the character creation works. I'd like you guys know that i'm in PST, so I don't know if that will really impact anything major.
I'm in the same region, what area are you from ?
Do you want me to help you with char. creation, Julio? I've got mine built and can give you a decent step by step walkthrough of it. Also do we need to make a back up character incase our first one dies? My thief only has 5 hit points right now.
You start with max hp.
YAY! 6 hp! Thanks!
Hi! Are you still looking for players? I am german as well, so the time zone is perfect. I have never played tabletop before, but i have some experience in D&D, mainly 3.5 (DDO), but also played Baldurs Gate a bit. If you stilll have space, what characters do you have atm, so i can plan something? ~JJ
I think it should be fine if you join. That would make six players total and five not counting the DM. I am a thief and I think Paul is doing a ranger. So we still need a fighter, cleric/druid, mage.
Hey, how should we split up treasure? Should we set aside a small percentage of our earnings for basic supplies and healing/resurrection of killed characters?
I'd say give all the treasure to me to look after, I'm a trustworthy sort of guy! Seriously though, divided equally with my share being slightly more equal.
Oh and a pack mule and/or small wagon might be handy, maybe we could all chip in towards it?
I'm for the wagon/mule and equal share of the profits. It could be like a caravan! Oh yeah, while we're talking about money, what extra stuff did you buy?
Stats for Elven - Wood Elf - Ranger; STR 14 INT 10 WIS 14 DEX 17 CON 15 CHA 10 These are before the Racial Adjustment so; STR 14 INT 10 WIS 14 DEX 18 CON 14 CHA 10. I'll be using the 1995 Edition for the build, but have the 1989 copy if you prefer, no great difference I think they just cleared up a few errors with newer editions. Should I do proficiencies as usual? Kind Regards.
Just out of interest what sort of time are we planning playing this coming weekend, Sunday would be best for me or an afternoon/evening session Saturday. Just so I can let work know my plans earlier rather than later. I'm from GMT +0. Thanks.
I don't know what time we're playing, it's up to the DM. As for proficiencies go, I think Jeremy said that we should go with swimming, a crafting skill, and one other of our choice. I went with swimming, leatherworking and dancing.
If you guys need another player (D&D 4.0), please let me know. I'm in between GMT +1 and GMT +2. I have experience playing D&D (1.0 and 4.0). :)
Sorry, but we're playing AD&D 2E now.
How does 10 pm your guys time sound? The later you guys are able to play the easier it is on me since I'm about 8 hours behind you guys. Does everybody have mics or are we going to stick to text based chat?
I've got mic and stuff, late as you like really on Saturday for me anyhow means I can get a shift in at work before hand. I'll finish by 18.00hrs so am good from 19.00hrs onwards, I can get out a little earlier if needed too though. Will crack on with proficiencies by the book, cheers.
10 pm is a bit late, as i am GMT+1, but if we find no other time it would be fine. only on fridays or saturday though. i have a mic and even a webcam (but i dont think we should use it). i dont mind voice chat, but text only is fine too also, i am currently torn between a half-elven druid and a gnome mage. any help on what to choose? alos, you said you would lift race restricions, that would mean my gnome wizard could have any spezialisation, right?
As far as I recall there are no restrictions on gnomes or any race as far as what schools if magic they are restricted to, specialist wizards are barred from certain schools though
I might be able to get a headset mic from my dad, he's being a bit stubborn about letting me borrow it. I'm good anytime before midnight our time on any day. And yes, gnomes could only become illusionist. There were other racial and abilty score restrictions for being a specialist, like you could only be an abjurer if you were human and had 15 wisdom.
Gnomes get special bonus' regarding illusionist, but are not otherwise barred from any schools. In fact any restrictions not regarding character level are lifted, if you want to play a paladin any race can be one , same goes for every other combination. Ability score restrictions are still in place though .
Haha a gnome paladin! Or a dwarven mage!
A dwarf wizard that hates to do magic. That will surely work out very well. I will do a gnome wizard, spezialised on Alteration btw.
Cool. Is there an alteration spell that lets you turn lead to gold? There should be one when you reach level 20 and can learn 9th level spells but it takes a month to do so and yields only 1000 gold. Also how do our characters know each other? Or do we all meet in a bar and the journey starts from there?
I don't know what spells i have yet, i am only just reading the rulebook^^. i just skimmed the alteration list, and there were nice things like dimension door etc. i mainly decided to barr necromancy, but not invoc/evoc, so alteration was the only choice^^ and i think the way we get to know us is up to the DM.
Still working on that, I'll give you your spells and what not when we start playing .
Hey don't suppose there is room for one more is there? i'm very new but getting to grips with D&D rules.
Maybe, depends on if Dennis is still with us. Let me find out. Hey Dennis, are you still in group?
I may or may not be able to play depending on my internet situation. My provider is comming out to my house to put in some new cables so I can get an upgrade, but I don't know when.
This weekend, I mean. I'll still be able to play over all.
Actually I will be able to play. What time (our time) and what day? Also, about Bugzee, I say; sure, why not?
How many players do we have that are confirmed and have most of their character ready to go? I will be finishing the setup hopefully Saturday , and should be ready to play later in the afternoon my time , remember I'm 8 hours behind you guys , and on rotating schedules so games may be a bit sporadic. What time is best for everyone on Saturday night? Sunday night? Or possibly Monday night if things take longer than expected on my end
I think we have Jacob and Paul. I can play for sure. Saturday works for me at any time before 4 PM your time, Jeremy. That would be before midnight my time (+1 GMT). Does that sound good to all of you? I can play Sunday if we need to but that'll have to be earlier than Saturday because I have school
my character: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=536803 can you look over it and tell me if it's ok? time-wise i am similiar to Taylor. i have compiled my availability into this nifty table: Days Start End Fri 18:00 3:00 Sat 18:00 3:00 Sun 18:00 24:00 Mon-Thu 18:30 24:00 GMT + 1 i could of course start earlier on Sat-Sun, but i guess that will be too early for you anyways P.S: my name has a ' k ' ;)
Sorry Jakob. Here's my character: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9-yAMZClR9OV041X3ZFX3JMOXM/edit?usp=sharing The only question about your character is how did you get all those proficiencies? Cool table, btw. Fri and Sat nights I could play as late as 3:00 but not Sun-Thur.
