[LFMP] [LFDM] [D&D 5e] x2 Players seeking Homebrew

1590178187

Edited 1590189252
I'm looking for a group of awesome individuals to game with myself and a brand new player. Here's a list of what We're looking for in a group. If you're looking for something similar then please apply :) This game will be Nights EST (GMT -4 once summer ends GMT-5). We will select a day once more players show interest. So far day is Open! Aspects I want in a game: - Heavy RP (yes, voices encouraged but not necessary. Don't be afraid to make your character more real) - Not too much combat as it can get dull, a good story is more what we're looking for (about 1/3 - 1/2 time spent in combat) - A good balance of jovial moments mixed with the serious ones - Not so focused on rules that the fun is broken (imaginative DM needed) - Weekly games (the time is flexible at first but would prefer to meet every weekend or weekday once decided upon) - Reliable & responsible players (show up when you say you will show up. We're looking for players who should be able to join most sessions) - Risk of death, but not too difficult it's ridiculous (healthy challenges and many unknowns, DM) - Voice Mandatory, and video optional (We find gaming is better when we can hear everyone's voices and see expressions and reactions to things) - Adults - Respect from player to player - Not multiple conversations going on at the same time. No sexual harassment out of the game. No racism, bigotry, etc. In-game, we will accept up to a Scanlan level of douchebaggery if it suits your character, but nothing more. Finally, we are not looking to pay to play at this time. FINALIZED PLAYERS LIST: Myself, 1 female player.

Sounds like you're interested in the same type of game that I enjoy! I would be interested in joining you if you manage to get a group together! Looking forward to hearing if a group comes together.
I am definitely interested. I have played a few campaigns over the years but wouldnt call myself an Expert in the game. I have a few characters and backstories in mind so i can change to fit what you want or need.

Sounds great! We'll keep you posted! We just need a DM now!
BUMP! DM needed
Ya, finding a good DM is brutal. Keep looking and eventually one will pop up.
I'm hopeful! You not interested?
Still Seeking a DM! Those interested please pm me your discord. Also please post a bit about you as a player!
I did reach out to you and we talked, I felt bad that you could not find a game. Unfortunately a campaign with a cthuhlu mythos theme was not too your liking. I would specify in your OP that perhaps you are looking for something along the lines of LMoP or the essentials kit campaign. Anyway, you do seem like a nice guy and I do hope you find a campaign that suits your particular tastes. scott
Raven, The game you described is very similar to what I am looking for. If you find a DM and have remaining spots, let me know. I think we have many overlapping interests. Best of luck finding a DM.
Sounds good
Sounds great! When can you chat? Have you discord?
Great! Probably not until after dinner today, so roughly 6:30 CST. I am free a good portion tomorrow, though. What times are good for you? I now have discord . . . new user, but I think I figured it out (helped by our 18 year old).

Hey! me and a friend are very interested in joining if you have not filled all your slots yet! We both are experienced with 5e but have no problem accommodating someone new and being patient. We both have discords and headsets. Message me at Tangy#3137 if youd be willing to take us in!
I'm curious... why homebrew?
In my experience they are more open and you help create a world making its history.
We are still Seeking a DM!

Seems like you've politely declined a few potential DMs already... Could you give us some idea of what you're looking for in a game to narrow the field a bit?
Jim S. said: Seems like you've politely declined a few potential DMs already... Could you give us some idea of what you're looking for in a game to narrow the field a bit? So far it's just been scheduling issues. Time zone issue. Nothing more than what is said above tbh. =)
Jim S. said: Seems like you've politely declined a few potential DMs already... Could you give us some idea of what you're looking for in a game to narrow the field a bit? Prime example. DM we were just speaking to wanted us to pay after the post specifically says no paid games. DMs constantly keep doing this and asking to play on times at like 3am for us. It's frustrating.
Hmm... well, about the only other piece of advice I could offer would be to consider non-D&D games. I filled the D&D game I'm running right now in about four days; could've done it in half that time, but I was a bit picky with the applicants, versus just going first-come-first-served. Non-D&D games, on the other hand: crickets. Heck, I even once posted a tickler for a 5E game running an old 1E module, and got two "meh" responses, and that was it. Non-D&D games don't fill up nearly as fast, any GM worth his salt will be happy to teach you the rules to a new game, and as a bonus, I think I've only once seen someone trying to run a non-D&D pay-to-play game; most GMs who run something non-D&D are just happy to have players, and aren't going to charge them for the privilege of playing. Yes, there will be a learning curve, but think of it this way: You'll have to learn a whole new game anyway when WotC releases 6E, updates D&D Beyond, and destroys all of your electronic "books." Ask the 4E players...
Hello! I run pay to play games here in roll20. My fee is $30/month/player via Patreon. I understand if you guys are looking for a free DM, but if you are considering hiring someone to fill the role, I can run a one shot with you. The adventure I'm currently developing is centered in the lost mines of phandelver, but I added a lot of extra content to it, and after 5th level it's all homebrew with content until lvl 20. I usually do as u said here, creating content with the players. I have 3 groups, and in the sessions that we have many things were added already that I had insight throw the players choices that surprised me as a DM. I'm very flexible, and very good with improvisation, and my worlds are open for you guys to do whatever you want. About the risks... Yes, there are risks. I like to play on the consequences of your actions. If a party member falls unconscious during a fight, depending on the creatures and their motivations, they might make sure he is pretty dead before moving forward. If party members go out to explore parts of the dungeons alone, they might find some ooze there, waiting for them, and experience a terrible death engulfed in the acidic body of the creature. If players mistreat and antagonize friendly npcs, they will keep their distance from the party, and quests might be lost because of it. So, yeah, I try to keep a good vibe in the games, healthy for everybody, not only player to player, but player to environment. And the story that matters is not the one that you choose for your background, but the one you are building, and the world around gets word of. People treat you differently in places depending on your choices. Send me a DM, please, if you guys are interested. I'm gonna add some images here so you can see what kind of adventures you can get involved into.
Oh, Sorry. I skipped the two last lines of the main post. Just noticed you do not want a paid DM.
D&D 6th edition? Say it aint so. Jim S. said: Yes, there will be a learning curve, but think of it this way: You'll have to learn a whole new game anyway when WotC releases 6E, updates D&D Beyond, and destroys all of your electronic "books." Ask the 4E players...
How long until 6e is released?
TheRavenOfDeath said: How long until 6e is released? Oh, I have no idea; I was being (mostly) hyperbolic. But if you think that the people that brought us the White Box, B/X, BECMI, the Black Box, AD&D 1E, AD&D 2E, D&D 3E, D&D 4E, and D&D 5E don't have designs on eventually releasing a new edition, then you're unfamiliar with how this works.
Surprisingly, this I think must be the longest amount of time WotC has not revised or come out with another edition of D&D. I remember buying D&D 3.0 and a year later we got 3.5, that was sort of a bummer. Still after 5 years of playing 5E, I think I am ready for a new version lol. Nah... there was a good ten years between AD&D 2E and D&D 3E, though the gaps have been getting closer; five years between 3.5E and 4E (2003 to 2008), and six years between 4E and 5E (2008 to 2014), though they were doing public playtests for "D&D Next" well before its actual release. The trick with this edition is that they've finally come up with a business model that defies what books are about. I can drop $30 on Amazon and have a Player's Handbook, really all I need to engage in the game as a player... or I can keep giving D&D Beyond $10 a month for a year... two years... three years, at $120 a year... one $30 book just cost you $360, and when they switch over the software to a new edition, you don't even get to keep that book... but you get to start subscribing to the new one. RPGs have always been difficult to make money off of, because once you have a few core books, you can write your own adventures, come up with your own monsters and magic items, and basically make the game yours... that, really, is the point of playing in the first place. If Hasbro can keep people paying over and over again for the same book, they'll stick with this version a little longer (particularly if they think that a move to 6E might cause angry customers to drop their subscriptions), but they'll make the move sooner or later.

Ahh AD&D 2.0. I started there! Wow it's different now lol. I just want a game
Also I must admit I hated 4E
TheRavenOfDeath said: Also I must admit I hated 4E 4E was... not good. I find that I can't direct irrational hatred toward a gaming product, but I felt that it contained a number of (for me) terminal design flaws that I personally couldn't get around, much of them centered on how much of the mechanics were developed very explicitly for use with a "battlemat game" versus a more fluid Theatre of the Mind; I myself use battlemats / white board when I GM, just to keep straight where everyone is during any particular action sequence (enough "But my character was standing right next to the lever, I swear!" will do that for you). But there seemed to be a current of "if it can't be portrayed on the battlemat, it can't exist," and that, combined with the sort of decision paralysis that your average player would experience when their turn in a combat came around and they had to leaf through a seven-page character sheet just to explore their options, meant it was a very-slow-moving game, at least whenever I played or DMed it. And that might be what gives 5E a little more shelf life... you're not alone in your dislike of 4E, and it was seen by a lot of players as a distinct step down from 3E (one of the main reasons that Pathfinder came into being is that people wanted to play "3.75E" more than they wanted 4E). 5E is seen as a distinct step up, and Hasbro may not want to rock that particular boat any time in the near future.
Are you guys still looking for a DM? And are you aiming for a free one or paid one? I would be interested in running a paid game, I got quite a few games running currently but could certainly set up another. I would use my own homebrew world of Elfast. A lot of the action takes place in Svartland, the Realm of Dread, and I would probably use that as my starting area as a country. Map looks like this: Got a few plot hooks that could be turned into a short- or long running campaign. The setting of this country is very much inspired by medieval Poland on a larger scale. It is also very much inspired by Game of Thrones and the Witcher series. Magic is regarded as heresy, and outside of the cities, magic users are looked upon with mistrust and hostility, but players will have options of keeping their magic hidden. It features quite a lot of Fey- and occultish activities, witches, trolls, undead, and "Underdwellers" crawling out of the earth many a night to kidnap poor, hapless people to an unknown fate below ground. Majority of the people here are humans, and other races are definitely viewed upon as more alien than in typical D&D settings. Game will be likely to switch between intrigue and cloak-and-dagger action in the cities, and survival out in the wilder areas of the countryside. Party concepts could be: Mercenaries for Hire: Monster-hunters and soldiers for hire, the party scours the cities or the countryside for bloody work, of which there is plenty. Party members are likely to be veterans, deserters or foreign sellswords from another country. Expect lots of haggling, backstabbing, strategizing and combat. Spies for one of the Crown Cities: The players will take on the mantle as spies for one of the six Crown Cities, infiltrating one of the other city states. There will be infiltration, sabotage, courtly intrigues, double-crossing and stabbings on the mean streets. Witch hunters: The players will be a specially-focused force, seeking out and driving away the evil forces that lurk in Svartland. Expect mystery, horror, investigation, monster-research and fast-paced action. Heretics / criminals: The players will be a band of "dark" magic users and/or bandits, thieves or criminals of another kind. They will be outsiders of regular society, moving in secret circles and in the dark underbelly of cities and countryside. Expect occultism, new and weird magic, escaping the authorities and bargaining with strange entities. Let me know if it sounds interesting. Cheers, Kim
