Roll20 added Character Sheets feature including AD&D 2E sheet

ANNOUNCEMENT: Roll20 added Character Sheets feature today, and it includes AD&D 2E character sheet at launch day, which the DM can add to an existing campaign!

Take a peek at this awesome fullsize screenshot picture of the new 2E character sheet,
https://app.roll20.net/sheet-previews/adndte.png

Here is the Roll20 Wiki with technical instructions if needed,
https://wiki.roll20.net/Character_Sheets

Dev blog talks about the new features added on Roll20 Data Delve update:
http://blog.roll20.net/post/87112838355/data-delve...

The place to add Character Sheet to your ongoing campaign is: Go to your Campaign Details page as GM (Not in the game, but the introduction page) > click on Campaign Settings there > scroll down to Character Sheet Templates > choose AD&D 2E from the drop-down menu!

If you are starting a new game, this will be one of the starting options.

If you want to make changes / modifications to the existing character sheet format, it is a new advanced feature for Mentor subscribers on Roll20.

I think the character sheet they've got now for AD&D 2nd Edition looks good and appears true to the system & would be helpful for Roll20 games! One of the tavern members, Stephen S initially developed this type of 2E online character sheet, and Dylan G finished the sheet for the new character sheets feature (Not sure if Dylan is in the Tavern), so CHEERS to these guys!

What do you think of the 2E sheet?

CHEERS to the character sheet developers from the whole Roll2E Tavern!

I made some more recent changes to the sheet and was wondering if anyone would have a problem if rather than my seperate spell tab, I made a new spell section to combine my new spell tab and the old spell section on the sheet?

I will also add a tick box so non spell casters can hide the whole spell section.

There was also a requested to have a better class/experience/level section that I am keen to do

Ok now that my last changes Version 2.0.0 is out there in the wild I am working on next changes. I am trying not to break anything for current users so I will add new stuff to the "Spell" sheet for now.

Ok so adding a dropdown for Race & Alignment
Then there is a repeating section to add as many Classes with a drop down for class, numeric box for Experience, numeric Box for Level

Under Spells I have added two Equivalent Level boxes which makes customised macros easier to use (For a wizard or pries/druid these fields will be same as that class level but for paladin/bard it would be different)

I have also added dropdown boxes for all the spheres (minor, Major, None) and schools (general, opposition, Specialist) to slect what kind of acces the PC has, this cna then be used to further refine macros to allow access to certain spells, etc.

So far no worker scripts to calculate/prepopulate. But I will work on something over the next week or so.

Please let me know what you think, and what you think would be useful for other people.

Sounds good.  Any expansion of the animal followers/companions/familiar setting so that more animals and attacks can be listed?

Please No.

We don't want a Drop-down for Class or Alignment, for sure. These are needed be Free Text fields on the Simple Sheet particularly the Top Of Sheet area.

Fork the sheet and make Alex's Droppy-Downy Sheet if anyone wants all that.

There are 50+ Classes in 2E (PHB, Dragon Mag, Settings), and DM's are free to make up a new Class, so it cannot be a Drop-Down (on the Top Of Sheet section).

There are even more races, and the same applies. Once you see that Planescape, Spelljammer, Dragonlance, Complete Book of Humanoids, and other settings are in-use by 2E DM's on the Simple Sheet, there are 100+ Races being used. All of those can't fit in the drop-down?  I've got 30 new races ready for a one-shot game next weekend, and none of those are likely to be in your drop-down. This is, not-to-mention, sub-races, adding many more. I'm playing a Furchin Halfling right now for example. That's the name of the race.  Just Plain Halfling from a drop-down is not right.  In my other campaign a PC is playing a Weisshund Dog from Greyhawk setting, how would we list that in a drop-down?

Alignment can have special notes like:
True Neutral
True Neutral (leaning towards good)
Lawful Good (formerly Chaotic Evil, changed by Helm Of Opposite Alignment, reverts to LG if the Helm is removed)

My template of the sheet, as DM, I put "Must be non-evil" in the Alignment field.  I do not want new Players to have "Evil" as an option.  If it's on a drop-down, that would imply they can create a character of that.

Also, alignment drop-down could also mess up dozens of existing character sheets that have existing Alignments with adjectives and other freetext descriptors.

Please rethink and don't do all of this, on the Simple Sheet. I felt like everyone dialoged earlier and Alex received the feedback that the Top-Of-Sheet stuff is needed to be free text. I thought I remember Alex saying the changes would not overwrite fields that are already in existing use.

There is already an existing 2E Complicated Sheet in Roll20 which has features like this, and this kind of drop-down limitation is part of the problem with it.

If these drop-downs are limited to only the Spells Tab, or the XP area, and not the Top Of The Sheet, I guess that's ok, though this is starting to look extremely bulky for a "Simple Sheet".

This is adding a lot of fields, and that means that a Campaign can fit fewer character journals before the number of attributes starts to cause Lag. This is a known Roll20 choke-point for larger sheets like Pathfinder's, 2E Complicated, 5E Shaped, and even 5 OGL. People using those sheets sometimes have to delete or export characters to reduce lag.

Please keep Simple Sheet similar in functionality to a pencil-and-paper sheet where people can write what they want.

How can this make sense as a Drop-down?

That part of the sheet hasn't changed.

It's still the same as always.

My understanding -- What Alex is proposing is to change it, from the above, to this:

He's displayed the proposed changes on the Spells tab, "for now". Compare the drop-downs against what you screenshotted. It's better how it is now than the proposed change which would be problematic in multiple ways.

NO I said I will not change anything that is on existing sheets.
That is why I am putting it all on the Spell Tab, so people can choose to use the one or the other. As I have stated many times I will not break something that is currently used :)

Hi GOld don't worry I have played AD&D 1e and 2e extensively over the last 30 years and played most of the campaign settings and optional rules and stuff from the Dungeon and Dragons magazine so I know the scope of things, even with the drop downs I will  NOT REPLACE the existing free tect fields. I am trying to make as little changes to the main sheet as possible so nobody will have broken characters.

The main reason for having drop down options is to make it easier to write macros that universally works as you know exactly what values to search for. I believe the majority of people play races/classes from the main TSR books so those would be the options I would specifically cater for.
Same reason for splitting alignment is so I can much easier see if someone is GOOD or not in acript or CHAOS or not. So it is not a requirement but merely looking at making things useful adn allowing for more generic scripts/macros to be written

That's pretty cool, but I still have concerns about the changes to Simple Sheet.

I think it would make it easier if we keep the substance of the discussion on the Changelog thread:

Macros not complete yet, but here is where you will be able to find the updated macros. It works with the new spell sheet.

If you find any issues or mistakes please let me know with a PM so I can fix it.

I also made the green of the 2EDefault Template lighter and the text colour of the subtitle defaults to black I have not pushed the change yet, trying to find colour that works without making it unreadable or to bright. Any suggestions welcome.

NEW LOOK:

Top is without Yellow Highlight and Bottom is with Yellow High Light to Show readability

OLD LOOK:

Top is with Yellow Highlight and Bottom is without Yellow High Light to Show readability

Is this live? I use an API that calls on spells based on that section, gotta see if it still works lol.

I agree the Yellow (bracket rolls) looks bad with white text.

There isn't really any background color that works with both Black Text, and White text. It's a principle of graphic design and layout presentation. That range of contrast is difficult or impossible to read for a lot of people. Always choose either a dark color, with light-colored text, or a light color background, with dark colored text. Don't try to sit on the fence and mix dark text with light text in the same field.

The "old" dark green (evergreen) with white text looks better, in this case, per the screenshots provided. It should not be changed to the brighter kelly green ("new") shade, please.

Here's one of many good websites for creating a color pallet and testing color principles (complimentary colors, contrasting colors, hue, saturation, etc).

For the "SIMPLE" AD&D 2E sheet version, using the fewest number of colors would be best. Keep it simple. Black and White, yellow, red-green-blue (roll CF's and CS's), orange (for /me), Purple (roll template), Evergreen (roll template), is more than enough colors already.

Navy blue, Evergreen, and Dark Purple, are pretty good background colors with white or light text.

Thanks for that gold, the issue I am trying to solve is the yellow highlight which I can not change. So I am trying to find what works. I will just change the colour to one of the other colours of the other templates.

I changed it from the lighter green to grey

super cool

Prefer the green, not the grey. Can you fork the sheet so it stays green and yours is grey, or add a new template for your needs?

I think the whole purpose here is that if some form of [[calculation]] in the "name" or "subtitle" category is used.
Then the default color turns white.... Hard to read for most everyone....inside a yellow box..
There would be some CSS modifications that could adjust for this....
But is it really worth it...???

I have implemented a few different colors, but never have I seen anyone put [[calculations]] in those areas....but it will happen...
At some point.....
Just would hate to go back through them and change all the CSS......hhhhmmmm

I am only changing the default one as that one is for generic use so it would make sense that people can put calcs in there, the rest are pretty standard and I cannot cater for every person that wants to do something differently.

Unfortunately not Roll20 does not allow versions of the same sheet. I have tried hard to make changes that are beneficial for the majority. And I think worrying about the colour of the background is the least of the worries.

TBH, the overall color does not seem to be an issue, more the ROLL boxes when you get that bright yellow AND a white number as a result

Then if grey serves the greater good, I'd be fine with it.

Just green is my favorite color... :(

Yes it is all about the white text when you include a roll in the 2edefault template subtitle, but with the grey background and black text it is resolved

I have been thinking of also adding a threat range field default would be 20, but that way you can define a different threat range for some weapons (for instance if you have high mastery)

Also want to add a macro box for weapons same as I did for spells so you can use the default macro or put your own macro or macro name in there, this will be tied to the current roll button.

Both of these would be small changes..

I'm not too keen on the "threat range" because my games don't use, and most simple games as far as I know don't use, "High Mastery" do they? I think those that do can use one of the existing Notes fields for it, or the existing Range field which is free text anyway. Putting the blank field on there implies that it is in use, and can cause newer players to ask the DM "What do I put for my high mastery threat range?" And then you get to explain that we don't use that in this game. Keep simple sheet simpler, I say. Last point the weapons chart is already quite crowded.

The macro box for each weapon sounds awesome though. I like that, it sounds like something that enables creativity without implying some extra tailored rule.

Not sure about having the extra macro box directly in the Weapons chart, since it's already crowded. Can you make that look good and fit?

The weapon macros would be awesome. I use an API for the spell page to create a player's spellbook in chat, and it can easily use the weapons, but the standard macro of the HIT1 button doesn't meet my needs, so having the ability to have access to my own macro would be excellent.

Don't use mastery, so no input from me.

its funny, the threat range for crits is something thats been discussed, in a game im currently in, recently. there are quite a few DM's who DO use C&T, Fighting Styles that increase crit range, High Mastery, etc. i feel like you would be doing them and their players a HUGE favor, and with a default of 20 like you mentioned, nothing changes overall unless the field is altered in the game. thumbs up from me on that one.
