No voice or video with Curse of Strahd module

Having issues with voice/video with my Curse of Strahd module. I created other test games that worked fine, as well as multiple games with the Curse of Strahd module that also didn't work. I've also followed all the steps provided by Roll20 (cleared cache, correct browser, reviewed settings, etc) and haven't had any luck. The fact that only the games with the Curse of Strahd module have this issue makes me think its a bugso I've reached out to tech support. Any ideas anyone?

If there's no connections related reason to use the R20 chat, maybe consider switching to Discord or Hangouts or Skype, or some other service. R20 voice and video can be pretty hit & miss. I can't think of any reason why it would be tied to a particular campaign though, unless the connection is extremely bad and the amount of tabletop content is taking all the bandwidth.
Hey, I'm glad this came up. I started having this issue yesterday and today. I can run other campaigns, and join others, but if I run CoS there is absolutely no video or audio. We did a lot of testing and the logs seem to imply our connection is fine. I'm glad someone else is having this issue! Lowering the video quality didn't do anything, I have a large amount of bandwith, so unless the module is ginormous, I can't figure out the issue.

Very strange. I don't own the content, maybe Strahd has Slience on his spell list?
@Oosh Yeah, we just used Skype last sessions and that worked, so the overall impact is minimal.Just annoying. The module is still worth it IMO. @Jamie Glad I'm not the only one too! If I get a response from Roll20 tech support I'll be sure to post their reply here. Strahd could very well be sabotaging the game. That's what I get for trying to bring a 5th level party with magic items into Barovia.
@Ronan D. hey, I have the exact carbon copy of your problem. I happened to have been running Lost Mine of Phandelver since the start of lockdown, and the same players on the same browsers, with the same equipment have all been using audio/video in Roll20 without issue. But 3 sessions in to CoS and we still cannot use audio/video. I looked at the WebRTC logs last night and I can see: LMOP shows continual TCP/UDP packets coming from every player - pages and pages of the stuff. CoS shows no activity at all. The log shows that the players are detected in the game, but there is zero packet activity and zero voice/video activation, with just 7 lines of initialisation text. To me it also sounds like a major bug in the CoS module, or possibly the shard it is hosted on (if it is hosted on its own shard, I don't know how that works.

I'm sure this has been tried, but no one's mentioned it.... have you turned it off and on again? :) Is there any interaction between Jukebox and voice/video? I don't see why there would be but... I don't see why any content should be doing this. Is it possible to add-on parts of CoS to a blank campaign? Might narrow down the issue if anyone can be bothered... I'm not sure how the content is packaged though so this may not be possible. Keith also pointed a potential finger at a shard-based issue in the other thread. It does sound more likely than content, but I'm also totally uninformed as to how that all works.

Now that you mention it, only I could hear the jukebox music. Also worth mentioning that about an hour into the session, my video would start working for everyone and after a further half an hour another random person's video would also start working. But still no sound.
We have the same identical issue. Video works fine in our previous campaign, but not in any new campaign created with the CoS module loaded. New blank campaigns work fine
it happened to my group
I'm having the same issue, this is really frustrating
We came across the same issue tonight in our first session of CoS. Had to switch to zoom...I have a couple weeks until Session 2.

Also worth mentioning that about an hour into the session, my video would start working for everyone and after a further half an hour another random person's video would also start working. But still no sound. Interesting. Is it possible to delete audio? I ask because I don't own any content with pre-made audio, I don't know if it's literally possible or not to delete the content. If so, is it possible to give it a go (not in a live game) and see if it makes a difference?
Well, we have done away with Roll20 audio/video completely. It was only important because we live stream our sessions. The player running the stream has been dabbling with OBS and found a way to add banners and stream video from Discord and even bring in live stats from dndbeyond (using their Twitch browser extension). I now see why the online D&D community doesn't rate roll20 a/v very highly.
Has anyone had an update from support on this? I’ve got the same problem listed here too (video only). Blank test games work fine and it’s 100% specific to Strahd. Under the audio settings there is a message that says “ Sources available after connecting another player” and players can only see their own webcams (using discord for audio)
Same issue here. We just started this content last week, couldn't get audio or video, tested our other campaigns, can use those fine, but can't get through on this one. How do we get a response from the Tech team?
Same issue here, have sent in a bug report. We are able to get results in voice only. But since we hadn't had difficulty in our previous module, this blindsided us Tuesday when we were due to start the module. @Peter We had also been running PHandelver same characters, players and equipment (but I didn't use the module, I imported or created maps) and completed it. Curse of Strahd was to be our next game. And disappointingly we weren't able to accomplish anything. I already paid for the Strahd module and a year of service, but depending upon how this works out, I may not be renewing.

Thanks for bringing this up, everyone. We'll be looking into the issue. I did have a few questions: Is this happening with every game new created with the module? Is this happening with games that once worked with voice and video?

In my case it was a new game and my first opportunity to use a module purchased in Marketplace. I was just getting read to re do everything to see if a second game with the module would have the same problem. Update- I did a second game with the module, and right now it seems to be having the same issues. I have one player in, and he can see and hear me, but if I switch to receiving video and voice, he can't hear or see me and I can't hear or see him. He can currently see and hear me, as long as I only receive in voice mode, I can broadcast in video voice mode. Inviting my other players in to test.
We have created the game twice with the same issue both times. You can see your own video and the indicator for your audio (the blue bar beneath your portrait) but not receive anyone else's.

Other blank test games with no content are fine for me
My group has also been having this issue. New games created without the module work without issue, but new games created with the module do not work with voice or video.
I can confirm that this same thing is happening to me. Seems to be CoS exclusive, as my other campaigns work fine.
With regards to this issue, I too am Sparticus! IE: also having the problem quoted above. I've other games working fine, I've started a test Strahd game that has had the same problems. Looks to be restricted to the CoS module for me.
Soooo, how long until the issue is fixed. Anyone care to guess?

And, at this point, my browser is crashing when I try to open it up. Two game nights ruined at this point.

I'm using Chrome, I haven't tried it with anything else. My computer IS older. And I am not in a position to purchase a new one. The load time is extraordinary for all of my players. Varying browsers and computer systems. I used the extra blank map for my landing page, and we finally made it there when they were transported by the mist. However, as the mist cleared and I wanted to bring them to the Barovia (large overall map) it took forever, and finally, we had to quit because even if we were all there, we had to keep reconnecting as only a few of us could hear different players. None of us could hear everyone. And some players never finished fully loading the map. Then, I went back without everyone and it takes an exorbitant amount of time for that particular map to load. The browser crashed once, and I keep getting the end task or wait dialog box. Even after a fresh restart and NO other programs running. So I moved all of the players back to the blank map and drew my own road to Barovia, so that at least we can have another game session while this problem is resolved. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/7990883/chapter-two (FYI, they still don't know we are playing Strahd yet, which is why the name and picture don't match) FYI, we were able to get Voice by setting everyone's computer to Voice only Broadcast and Receive. If anyone tried anything different, we couldn't see or hear anyone. keithcurtis said: Kat K. said: And, at this point, my browser is crashing when I try to open it up. I have deleted several maps from the Strahd game and the load time has become ... tolerable. I kept a "main" game that I can copy for different chapters. Still not able to do video and voice at the same time.

It occurs with every new instance of the module, well at least the two times I tried.

I’ll also note that I’ve created COS campaign module I bought and audio and video of player chat never worked. Recreated a new session multiple times and same issue.
Not sure if this is helpful - but I am also having the same issues as above. No issues in other games I've created... just the CoS module. Fingers cross it can get fixed soon *x*
Yeah would love to be able to switch from discord chat to Roll20 to keep it all in one program and be able to hear/see them again.
Hi Folks, Thank you all for your patience on this (no doubt frustrating!) matter. I have made sure our ticket is updated with the information you all have provided-- please continue to provide as more information is always valuable. At this time, we do not have an ETA for a fix but it is absolutely on our radar.
Look forward to being updated on this issue, thank you!
I just bought this module and created a new game and have the same issue as everyone else. I won't go into the steps I did, since it seems wide spread. My old games (not of the CoS module) still work just fine and I had to have a tab with the old game in order to hear my players as we played. I don't want to do that again since it must tax Roll20 servers even more to have people with two sessions open at once. I plan to use Hangouts next session, hopefully this is fixed soon.
Our group has been playing for a couple months in a different game and had no problems whatsoever. I (the DM) decided they were finally ready to start playing CoS and got a Plus account and bought the module on the marketplace. Our first session was last Saturday but everyone in this game had problems. Tested the old game, and everything worked fine, so totally looks like a CoS only bug. Things we found: Sometimes one or maybe two people would have video and audio but the rest didn't (4 man group). I tried archiving some of the maps, because I thought the issue might have been loading times, but this didn't seem to work at all. The normal "Playing Cards" deck didn't work for 2 of the 4 people. Myself and an other player only saw the *image not available icon* while the other two people could view the cards just fine. The tarokka card that comes with the module did seem to work for me tho. Have not yet tested if the others could see them soon (gotta wait for Madam Eva!) Everything else in the module does seem to work as for now. We changed our audio and video to discord and continued to play. The music I added in the Juxebox did however work for everybody in the game! Really hope there will be a fix anytime soon, fingers crossed!
Having the same problem in my CoS group as everyone else on this thread. There's only 3 of us and we play in another non-CoS game run by a different DM with 6 total; that game doesn't have any issues. Last night the compendium drag and drop wasn't working for the three of us, but I tested it myself this afternoon and it seems to be working. Not sure if that was a connection issue specific to last night or if it's now resolved. I had purchased the module and started it for a different group in May and wasn't having any issues when we stopped playing in June. This new campaign was started 2 weeks ago and the video/voice has not yet worked in any of our sessions (3 total).

The video/voice works just fine, so I've brought my new group into that game. Still if I start a new game with the CoS module, then I get no video/audio for any of my players.

Same issue here. Old game for LMOP, video and audio work just fine. Any new game I create for Curse of Strahd, the video and audio is busted. I'd like an update from the Roll20 team about this bug, given the fact you've taken my money for a broken product. The issue exists on both Chrome, and Firefox. And I've also tried using a Mac & PC, issue persists.

An update would be appreciated. Been like this for weeks now. Very frustrating buying a module that doesn't work If a patch has broken this content, would it not make sense to revert the change so it can be used as normal?
Just want to voice that my group is having the same issue. We've tried multiple instances of the CoS module, and always have the problem recur. We can see our own video and audio feed, but no anyone else's. Any ETA on a fix woudl be highly appreciated, as we're all eager to start the campaign and are hoping to stream it.
Our group also ran into this issue today, and really delayed the start of our game and stream :(( Everyone could only see their own webcam, no matter how many times we reconnected and logged in/out. Did not get to test audio, since we do audio through Discord, but can definitely confirm the video issue. Would love to have an update! This is a pretty expensive module to buy for something so basic to be broken
Curious if there is an ETA at this point for a fix? Spending money on this module where a huge communication feature doesn’t work is bothersome.
Justin E. said: Curious if there is an ETA at this point for a fix? Spending money on this module where a huge communication feature doesn’t work is bothersome. I agree. I'm seeking a refund due to this module being broken, and no updates from the Roll20 team.
I am considering seeking at least a partial refund. We have been able to get the voice to work if everyone turns off broadcast and receive video. But in this age of social distancing, these real life friends would like to be able to see each other.
Our group has had the same issue for over a month as well..
