Hey all. Does anyone know if Roll20 works in China? I have tried to use the site under two different browsers (Chrome and Fox) without success. I can see the site and whatnot but I am unable to create a campaign, search for players, or join.
Brin, I'd recommend going here - <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues</a> and work through the steps provided. Hopefully if you're still having problems by the time you reach step 4, a console log will tell us what's going on.
Benjamin said: I want to use a very specific dice mechanic in my game and I'm unsure how to enable it on Roll20. Where should I go/who should I ask about this? I would recommend you create a seperate thread for your question in the specific question forum (here in this forum section) and post what you need it to do and maybe give an example how it would be used.
Hi. Any advice for someone just starting out? Outside of reading my brother's old D&D monster manuals when I was little, I pretty much have zero knowledge of playing tabletop RPGS.
Hi Michael, welcome to Roll20. I'd suggest watching the videos at the top of this post to get familiar with Roll20, then see if you can find a newbie friendly game in the Looking For Group forum or Looking For Group tool. Discussion in the past about what first system you should target have often suggested Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition (which has only recently come out), as it's a pretty simple system and there are many new players of it, so you won't have to feel like the last one to the party. There are plenty of great systems out there of course, so you might want to system hop until you find one that feels right. Hope that helps!
Hello! I am not new to Tabletop gaming, but I am what you'd call "Rusty" since I have not played DnD since 3.5 in High School (Several years ago) so I am new to the Roll20 system. I'm seeking a GM/Game accepting newbies so I don't feel like a fool trying to get used to things in an experienced party. I tried browsing the Looking For Group search engine, but most games are either full or not taking place for some time. Would anyone be willing to invite me to their game?
Hello Skeletorials and welcome to the community. If you look down in the looking for games section of the forums you will see various groups asking for players or players asking for gm's. You can post your request there. When you were looking for a game in the search engine, did you checkmark the welcoming new players? I just did a 5e search and there were many games listed that were recruiting but I don't know your timezone so many of them might not work for you. The reason for just a 5e search is that it is the latest D&D system and everyone is new to it: 5E Group search
sorry if this is a repeat, theres a lot of posts to go thru here. im new to roll20 and ive joined a game starting next weekend. ive made my character as per the gms guidelines and worked up some macros in a text file, but what do i do now aside from awaiting further instructions? ive already spammed the gm with a bunch of noob questions so im asking here. thnx much and good day to you sir and/or madame.
You and the GM worked to make your character and have it fit in his world: checked. You have been in the game room itself? You posted in the forums to introduce yourself to the rest of the group? You read up on the game world that the GM is running unless it is a homebrewed setting?
Well....I'm sorta new...Kinda....I had a previous profile, and play one round (poorly bc newb). Welp...My email was deleted, and all info lost...so....yeah. Hello world. Again.
Well hello and welcome back Kathy, who is cute and very strange. Do you need any help or have questions? I know farther up the thread there are many posts with links to them and I would really recommend the <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Introduction_To_Tabletop_R" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Introduction_To_Tabletop_R</a>... and the <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll20_Crash_Course" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll20_Crash_Course</a> links. Our wonderful mod "Kristen C." made those videos to help all the new members to the site and to those that are new to the hobby also. Hope you find a good game and enjoy.
Hello Alex. This is not a game recruitment or posting thread. It is just for new people to say hi and get some guidance on how to do basic things on roll20. The two main videos are in the first post. Everything else links back to specific answers to very specific questions. Think of this as an interactive FAQ thread.
Hi there! I'm new to this place and I must say that the Crash Course is amazing for begginers like me! Thank you very much for make things easier for newbies! Hope to see you around!

Hi, im kinda new to the table top scene and i feel in love as soon as i tried it lol and ive been looking for a group but cant seem to find one any help / tips would be very helpful.
Thomas, if you haven't done so already, I'd recommend watching the video about Finding A Gaming Group here - <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Introduction_To_Tabletop_RPGs#Finding_A_Gaming_Group" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Introduction_To_Tabletop_RPGs#Finding_A_Gaming_Group</a>
Hello butter milk and welcome to roll20. I think asking your gm to help you would be the best option or going to a site like Steve Jacksons groups forums form that specific help..
This thread is more for helping people new to roll20 learn how to use the features and to help people who never played roleplaying games than how to build a character. Usually that is the area for the GM to do or a site dedicated to that system not roll20 forums. I'm not at my laptop or I would toss you a link or two but if you google gurps forums you should find Steve jackson's gurps forums (gurps.com/something) and they can help you.
How come when I search in the Looking for Group section and tell it to only find games playing D&D 3.5, 4, 5 I still get loads of hits playing pathfinder, warhammer 40k, D&D 1, etc...?
That is because the search engine is looking at all the tags that a group used. The groups showing up usually have almost every system or a wide selection listed in their played tags. The devs are working on changing that and I think it is suppose to use the first two system tags for the search now.
Why is this macro "/me fires her bow /roll 1d20+ @RangedBonus" not working? Im trying to set up my first game as a gm, and I cant get ay of the macros to work even after having repeatedly read the guide and watched multiple tutorials.... it will roll the die, but that is all, no bonuses added, and I cant get it to put the initiative in, or for it to be at the selected token/character sheet (yes, they're linked) no matter what I do.... help please? What am I doing wrong?
The problem with that macro is that it's incomplete. I am assuming your characters have "RangeBonus" somewhere in the attributes section of their character journals. Problem you have currently is that "@RangedBonus" doesn't have a target assigned. It doesn't know what character to use to pull the attribute from. You can go about it multiple ways. You can use "selected" or "target" to used linked tokens on the tabletop. You can read up on those here . Or you can call out the name of the journal directly like below. /roll 1d20 + @{Harold|RangedBonus} The macro is told which character journal to pull (Harold) and for it to take the number that's listed under an attribute "RangedBonus"
I am currently new and checking out the possibilities of ROLL20 for me and my group. We are playing a DSA /The dark eye a very popular system in germany (it's the german D&D so to say) ;). I took a look at the macro dice roll possibilities but it seems to me to be insufficient to generate the dice rolls this specific system needs (as there is no recursion or better said decision making possibility). Does the API for mentor give you these possibilities? To make an example of what would be needed: Ability rolls are allways made on 3 attributes (1-20 range) with 3d20. If a roll is higher than the attribute you can use your ability score to lower the die roll to get a success. Your remaining ability score drops by the amount of used points. If you score 3 successes your ability roll was a success and you also potentially want to know how much of your ability score remains. Example: Attribute: Strenght 14, Agility 12 Ability: Climbing 6 Ability Roll for climbing Strength, Strength, Agility You Roll 12, 15, 15 so you use up 0+1+3 of your ability score of 6 for a reminder of 2. Your ability roll was a success and you also have 2 points left over. If your DM would have put a penalty of 3 points on your ability roll then your climbing score would have been reduced by 3 before your roll and the ability roll would have been a failure because your last roll would have failed. As I said I am new but it seems to me the currently implemented roll mechanics would not allow for this as I am not able to make a IF decision during execution of a macro. Am I wrong and what would be needed to implement this? Thanks!
Hello Armando and welcome to the site. At this point (I'm still learning the macros) I do not believe the dice roller will handle your needed mechanics as is. I would recommend you repost your question in the specific question forum so that more people will get eyes on it.
Scott B. said: Hello, I'm new to the site. I like what I'm seeing so far. Now I just have to start up a game. LOL Hi Scott and welcome to the site. If you are looking at joining a group you can look and post in the Looking for Group forum plus you can search in the Looking for group listings. Look up in the blue banner for it. If you have not watched the videos in the first post, please do so soon. They are very helpful.
yes i have a question and i need help im a DM and players are wondering it is possible to but me token sets off the market place. is this possible and if so how?
I believe it does but it requires a supporter or higher subscription. I know it works on a Samsung Galaxy tab 2 that is running 4.3 custom android (Kandykat).
Hello everyone, I'm new to this site, and this is kind of embarrassing but, I've never played a tabletop RPG. Worse, I don't really know where I can create a character.I don't even have a character sheet. Can anyone post some links for me? If some do, thanks for your time.
