It is the start of a new year, and while months of heavy snowfall and damp winters air should be set aside in the light of a new raiding season, the chill on the wind grows colder. Slabs of ice splinter against the hull of a longship as Northlander men and women row towards the city of Hals Vikra. For the first time in nearly a century the twelve clans of the Northlands meet, not to discuss petty feuds or the coming spring but whispers of war from the invaders across the sea. As the winds leave the frigid mountains of the north and towards the southern forests of Almdalir villagers collect torches and pitchforks and make off into the night. The mob marches along the river and through dense woodlands as only a few short yards ahead a mother and her children (accused of witchcraft) run for their lives. At the water’s edge the woman holds her children close and with a grief-stricken face lets go, watching her babies sail to the west on a makeshift raft, as she collapses to her knees, she has ran as far as she can as the flames of the mob flicker in the tree line behind her. The Ice hugs close to raft, protecting the children as best as it can until it breaks off to witness a troubling performance. On the waterfront marketplace of Kerlingara a pair of jovial bards put on a puppet show only to be interrupted by a group of hooded fanatics demanding praise to a new god. This land is the Northland, one of the three continents of Neershore, home of raiders, merchants, witch hunters and warriors, but as the winter claims the spring things are changing on these rocky shores. Magical creatures long presumed dead or hunted to extinction are waking, to the far west the people of Waelen pray to the Earthmother as their king grows ill, and to the far south the desert folk of Marevael plot an end to the Northlands plundering and pillaging. As portals to frozen realms open in the deep forests and uninhabitable mountain caves, a group of six friends and heroes, reuniting after a winter apart, return one fewer. One of their party is missing, an arcane caster and Northland born who left behind only small clues where she could be. It is up to the remaining five to find her, but in these times of great change many challenges line the path they must follow. Welcome all you forum surfers to the land of Neershore! Neershore is an entirely homebrew world that pays homage to the Witcher (both the books and the video games) and the Book of Beautiful Horrors (a homebrew creation by Nathan Hasle) . It is a land of vikings, fey-touched islanders, an unending winter, and a war on the horizon. I’m Kat, a 22-year-old dungeon master with 3 years of experience looking for 5 players to take part in this (hopefully) long-running campaign.
