[LFG] [D&D] Looking to start a campaign for a new player

I have never had the chance to play D&D as I have never had a whole group/DM to be able to play with. I have always been interested in doing this. I have even created a couple characters over the years before the groups planned to start but never actually happened. I am definitely a beginner but am familiar the basics. I have never used Roll20 before but am excited to try it out with the right group of people. I want to make sure that I fit in well with a group and would like to get a long lasting thing going. I am in my 30's, work, and help care for a couple of foster children currently so evenings/weekend times would be the best for sessions for me. I am on Alaska time (1 hour difference from PST). I am a pretty easy going and learn very quickly. I will be able to pick up the intricacies of D&D. I am capable of doing video and audio sessions. I think that would allow best camaraderie building with a new group/new addition to a group as well. I think the most important part for me is having a good time with the group/DM. Storytelling for me is a win. Friendly banter is also a plus. I am happy to meet/talk with everyone before ever having a session. Feel free to ask me things to get to know me, figure things out, etc.

I am also looking for a group to play with! I have tried several times to play with some friends locally but it never worked out the way I wanted and my friends never seemed as invested in learning how to play and try to make it a regular thing. Some of this may have been due to us not having anyone experienced enough to properly DM. But I am very interested in finding a group of fun individuals to play with on a regular basis. I live in Maine(EST) and work 7-3:30 (usually) so nights and weekends would also be best for me. I'm a 23 year old male with an almost 3 week old daughter and I feel I have a good sense of humor. I really got an interest in the game after listening to not another dnd podcast which I am now slightly addicted to lol. 

First off congrats on the new daughter! It definitely seems like our schedules mesh up so we could keep ourselves grouped together if others wanted to join in and we find a good DM willing to walk us through things. I actually got interested again after watching Viva La Dirt League's stream of D&D so similar situation there.

A friend of mine and I are looking for a group. We're EST.  Over 40 with kids, but we're young at heart and looking for a fun group.

Hi Baloo. I am not sure I am looking for a pay to play situation but Tim and Samuel can chime in for their situations. Otherwise I can keep you guys in the loop if I find a willing DM. I also have one of my friends interested.

Hey guys. So, I see you're not interested in pay to play, but what about voluntary tipping? I run games specifically for beginners and only use a tipping service. If someone wants to buy me a coffee, great! If people don't want to, that's 100%. Everyone still gets the same game and same experience.

Wow this post got a lot more traction than I had expected. That is great! We definitely have enough players interested if we can get a time together that will work for everyone. Like you say we also have a few interested DMs. We should figure out the time part and figure out what works for the DM as well. Also maybe figure out what kind of campaigns the DMs want to run so we can match everyone's thoughts.

If yall looking for another player I can play any day during the week for the most part. Let me know please.

I'm game for any kind of campaign. Just need info on character building based on the campaign type. For the DMs that responded, are you all willing to do it for free? And what evenings would work?

We could also set up a discord or something to chat on to make things a little easier then using the forum
