Post for people to sign up to the time and date... quest can be changed if people prefer to start with something else! That filled up quickly!
We have a few roles that need filling for next week's session: 1. Cartographer: As there is no map given to you as a party (and there never will be), the party is responsible for arranging their own map. This can (and should) be shared between different parties, with your combined knowledge hopefully translating into a workable map. We'll need at least one person to volunteer to be the mapmaker. This will be a literal blank page for most of you, although somebody proficiency with cartographer's tools could instead use hex paper for more detailed mapmaking. 2. Be sure to check the Travel Activities described on page 16 of the West Marches guide so that you've got an idea what your character will be doing while traveling. 3. As this is an exploration based game, you'll want to keep track of resources. In addition to needing 1 pound of food each travel day, one gallon of water per day (two in hot climates), and warmth & shelter for sleeping. Shelter and warmth come from a blanket/bedroll, a fire, and a tent/cover overhead. Lacking these can lead to levels of exhaustion, so come prepared! 4. It is possible to forage and hunt while camping, but this is obviously time consuming and presents dangers of its own. You can also survey the surrounding area. Check page 25 of the West Marches book for more info. 5. Bear in mind we're using Gritty Realism for rests, with short rests being 8 hours and long rests only occurring in town or over the course of five in-game days. It is difficult to find a safe place to rest for a long rest, so manage your resources accordingly.  Don't forget that you have Idle Talents (see Rest for the Weary in the Google Drive) for more info. 6. Remember that a healer's kit is needed in order to regain health on a short rest! 7. Encumbrance will be monitored, so be selective in what you loot. 8. Get excited! This is going to be something fun and very different to classic D&D, and I can't wait to see how it unfolds!

Alexandria will be trying to "Notice Threats" while we travel. Drawing maps is something that generally escapes her! She is also happy to carry equipment, rations, etc...
Updated with new party lineup - ready for Friday!!!
Uklah will be the designated drawer.
Alexandria's journal... 2 Highsun An interesting day with the group gathered to rescue the fishermen in "Chittermarsh". Following some last minute provision gathering, we (finally) set out into the Harrowmere and turned northwards away from the road. The nimble, keen-eyed  Corsair  quickly picking a favourable pathway through a lot of the mire. After a few hours travel, he spotted something ahead with  Lizzie  quickly pointing out there were kobolds scrabbling around some ruins. Despite our best efforts to speak to them, they seemed intent on scaring us away from whatever they had found. The confident, regal,  Icarus  reacting quickest as he looked to send a wave of psychic energy towards the kobold who fired a sling bullet towards the group. The wretched creatures should know not to be out in the sunlight and they were wildly ineffective with their sling attacks initially. The umbrella wielding  Uklah  stepped forward to take first blood with a devastating longbow strike and start the panic in the kobold group with their leader throwing a hefty sack towards us and unleashing a swarm of wasps that were trapped within!  Icarus  and  I  would spend some time trying to contain these vicious insects, while  Corsair  darted forward to take out more of the kobolds with a flurry of his sword and kicks.  Uklah  continued to rain arrows, slaying another but the acrobatic, swift  Diarmuid  (or  Deer  as they seem to prefer) took a hefty sling blow to the temple and did well to stay on their feet! The calming presence of  Lizzie  was quick to react, healing  Deer  before the kobolds could press any advantage. We quickly subdued the rest of them before their leader surrendered. The poor creature was far from home and no threat, so after questioning him for information we let Snar Tuks be on his way home... Bahamut guide this was the right decision, he spoke of serving a giant lizard and a war between them and some goblins and humans at a fort.  Uklah  was quick to get the details added to the map! We pushed on and made camp for the night - I hope we're not too late for the fishermen, this seems a land filled with peril... 3 Highsun The night passed without incident apart from  Deer  spotting troll tracks, something we'll have to beware of if we return this way, and we pushed on in the morning towards the fishermen. Spotting a series of raised platforms, we approached carefully. There was no sign of life... scaling the platforms, the keen eyes of  Deer  again spotting something of interest. A pale corpse lay on one of the platforms... pushing forward,  Corsair  found an opening in a huge tree but before entry could be gained, the party was swarmed by stirges.  Deer  was quick to deal with a solitary target but several swarmed the startled  Corsair  who did his best to dispatch one of the foul creatures before succumbing to their bites and falling unconscious.  Icarus  was quick to fire off magical missiles that destroyed another stirge,  Uklah  dashed forward and cast some healing magic to revive  Corsair  while  I  managed to rush to stand over his prone figure and dispatch a shadowy looking stirge. Spinning around, a further stirge prepared to attack but the freshly revived  Corsair  managed to bring down this last foe. Searching the camp, it seems that maybe the stirges were not the cause of the massacre here. While  Lizzie  once again ensured our survival with some delicious goodberries, we skimmed through a journal from the camp which referenced an "old coot" that seems to have been a source of annoyance. We will head back to Hope to deliver the news and see if anyone has any details of who (or what) this might be... while the group has performed well to this point, I do not think it would be wise to press our luck. We at least know there are trolls in the area and the families deserve to know what happened here... 4 Highsun We've arrived back without too much trouble. Muredach has advised that there are rumours of a wild druid worshipping Zuggtmoy, although he did not seem to know who that was... I need to check with Arty, but I'm certain I remember that name at least from the academy... this might be very, very bad...
Love it!

Icarus' First Letter Dearest Eryn, I have recently arrived in Elpida, where there are already a number of strange and wonderful inhabitants. I have already lead a number of them on this downtrodden towns first successful foray into the wilds. You will be pleased to hear that despite fierce battles, not a single one of my charges fell under my protection. Alas, we were too late to save those poor fishermen in the marshes (the 'Chittermarsh', as named by the locals), but I shall get to that grisly tale later. The trek to the marsh was quite eventful, as we happened upon a group of Kobold's desecrating the land, digging through some old ruins. The kobolds are much as described to us in our training, and the high priest's linguistic training has already come in handy as I was able to communicate with the creatures. Though I attempted to show mercy by allowing them the chance to abandon the area before next I returned, they dared to attack me. Despite outnumbering us, they were easily put down, though I fear my body is still not accustomed to being on the surface- while I did not make a fool of myself, perhaps with a little more experience I can impress those I lead with my true skill with the Trident. The others, for their part, were quite impressive in battle. You would particularly be impressed at the Half-Elf, Alexandria , and her skill with the blade. Corsair (that is his name, I have not thrown my lot in with pirates!), was quick on his feet and slew a number of his own. A curious-looking Lizardfolk named Uklah wearing a dress with an umbrella was also able to assault the creatures from afar. I think you would find the ensemble quite beautiful, though wildly impractical in the water. A druid named Lizzie was also able to offer her support to the others as needed, particularly to Diarmuid , a Vanara... I think I should leave the description of this creature and let you see him with your own eyes once you arrive. One among the Kobolds was spared, so that perhaps he may spread the word that the land is now under my protection, though he did mention a giant lizard master, with his tribe being at war with both humans and goblins, so perhaps I will have to take things into my own hands. During our watch that night, troll tracks were discovered, which if their nature is truly as we have been taught, they will obviously have to be dealt with as well. My duties here seem to continuously pile up- but do not fear, I will endeavour to make this place safe enough for you and the others to join me, the thought of this drives me. My navigator finally lead us to the fishermen's camp we sought, but there were no signs of life to be found. After Diarmuid's keen eyes found the first lifeless body of one of the fishermen, we were ambushed by what I'm told are called 'stirges' (a kind of strange, flying piranha) While one of our number was almost overwhelmed by these beasts, my magicks were able to strike a number of them down with the aid of the others, and a search of the camp found not a single living soul, Lizzie happened across a journal that detailed information about an old coot that has been causing problems in the area. The reactions of the others leads me to believe that a 'coot' is an idiom for some type of person, and not the aquatic bird we are familiar with. Perhaps I should investigate this further. We returned to the town without issue, though upon our return one townsfolk mentioned a rumoured druid in the wilds worshipping a 'Zuggtmoy' (yes, apparently that is correctly spelled). Perhaps you could ask the priests if they had any details of this.. deity? Regardless, I will add it to the list. I fear I may need to rely on others to accomplish some of the tasks in this place, though thankfully those in this expedition show some promise with a little leadership. Give my best to the others, I hope your continued training is going well. Please check in with Corus, I'm afraid the way we left things may cause things to fester between us. I miss Myth Nantar. I miss the depths, it is difficult to sleep without the comforting pressure of the deep waters. And if I may be so bold, I miss you. Yours, Icarus
Notes for Master Toubin :  After adventuring out of Hope, came across small lizards.  Kobolds in our hall of records.  They spoke of a Great Lizard in the area that they recognize.  Uncertain if it is a god, or elder, or leader.  Will investigate further.  No tale of ghosts, but evidence of trolls have been found.  People around must have stories of trolls.  Fisher people were dead, but no sign of ghost, just journal of "coots" tales.  Perhaps responsible for deaths.  The dead tell no tales unless one listens.  Shall return. Guiding Star Journal, So many soft skinsss...John Corsair gave me darts...the gift is one that ressonatess with Uklah...Uklah lovess to place flowerss around their darts.  Now, myself is found pulling petalss off of flowerss...do Corsair think of Uklah like thiss?  Looking forward to traveling with Corsair again.  Curiosity holdss ssway where they may be staying?  Maybe Alexandria knowss, Uklah enjoys new friend's sscent and sskin.  How kind and gracious they be.  Also new friend Lizzie is wonderful person to share knowledge of plantss and flowerss with.  They healed the softsskin of Corsair quite well, I recognize Lizzie strength and talent, looking forward to more travelss with Lizzie as well.  Made dart out of Stirge!  What fun to throw mouth of Stirge...to listen to sound it has. SSSSStirge...The fish king has tasty sscent...but Ulkah must not waver...flesh from the ssea has great taste in memory...but not for present.  Benzaiten, may Uklah hold true to vow with Seonbi.  Wavering is stance one should not take.  Vanara is most graceful, and wild.  Weave around like soft cloth.  Ssilky movement. Wavers around battle. They did not give Uklah darts, but make Uklah ssmile.  While adventuring all food others find is meat!  How tempting, how kind...but musst not partake!  No more meat!!!!  Uklah musst eat only plant...but misssess meat...must keep busy.  Make more map.  Show to Seonbi, then venture out.  Want to buy leather sstrap to hold darts.  Show to Corsair that Uklah cherishess darts, will make softskin turn red....this thought brings smile to face. [Lizard Kisses on page with a scribbled heart around the name John Corsair]
