[LFG][5E] Looking for a group to play with. Details about me inside.

I will say this at the beginning as I have received requests to join stuff I am not interested in. I am not looking for a paid game. You do not need to read any of this if you are recruiting for a Non 5e game. I am not interested in any of the following: Non 5e, Tomb of Annihilation, Mad Mage (As I am already in a fantastic group for this), any campaign which you have heavily modified the core mechanics of DnD or added some weird crit mechanic cards that overrun the game.  Instead of sending out 30 applications for games to which never get a response. Here is a single Application for any DM looking for a dedicated player. I will include all the information that repeatedly gets asked for. DM's pick me up if you need a player. Use this information to determine if I would be a potential good addition to your game, or not. I'm not going to write an individual resume or application for each game as i'm sure this is detailed enough. If you ask me to apply to your game in your thread, I'm just going to cut and copy this.  About Me: I am a 44 year old disabled and retired Army veteran. I have the luxury of time on my hands to dedicate to your campaign and story. I'm wanting to sink my teeth into the world you spent so much time creating. I want to love it as much as you do! I want to meet the other people you invited into the world and have danger thrown at us and figure out how to solve your mysteries and mazes, while figuring out how to get along with strangers and turn them into friends in and out of the narrative. I am serious, but I can laugh at a good joke (adding Yeet to the end of a sentence does not make it a joke). I speak English, not "Meme". I enjoy role playing, but never to the detriment of someone else's fun. I do not like when a single player is always forcing the party to react to what their character does, this makes it the campaign of them and not the party. I don't enjoy someone being SO narrow sighted in their character that they don't realize no one else is enjoying what they are doing and constantly lean on the crutch "its what my character would do". At the end of the day, we are aren't really our characters, each person around the table is an individual with their own motivations and personalities but the one thing we should all share is a desire for fun, but never at the cost of someone else, in or out of character.  What I am looking for: A fun group of  welcoming  players. Preferably not a "good ol'boys club" of life long friends, and I am the odd man out. I find that this causes for a lot of inside jokes to which I'm left sitting with a deer in the headlights look on my face, just waiting for the joke to end so we can move forward.  A healthy Mix of Role play and Combat. I want to play with players that love their characters and put effort into creating them and exploring them and watching them grow. Not players that make meat puppets for their version of "Dungeons and Damage, the Diablo table top edition." Anyone can create a damage monkey. I want to play with a creative bunch of people. That being said, Its fun to actually fight with a character, so I am looking for combat as well. I laugh when I see people saying they prefer roleplaying but when the campaign starts, they turn into the most murder hobo person around. I enjoy combat as much as roleplay.  Structure. I would like to find a group that meets once a week and where everyone shows up. I know everyone has a real life and that should always takes precedence. I would like to find a group where its not missing someone every single week due to a Headache, stress, sick..ect..ect...Its no fun when the group is ALWAYS missing someone.  A group that is looking for someone who wants to play the game! I love sitting around and telling "and one time i did this.." type stories, but I want to do that before or after the game. When the DM starts the game...lets play the game!  Looking for an actual Sanctioned Campaign.  What I am Not looking for: Incredibly slow Leveling. I'm not looking for a power campaign where we level up each session. But being in the same group for 5 months and only going from level 3 to 5 is unacceptably slow. I need something new to play with every once in a while. The same old toys month after month gets stale. Not looking for special home brew mechanics that take over the game. Unique home brew rules can be fun. But if your "new" home brew stuff is causing players to die, then your home brew rules are writing the story, and the players are not.  Not looking for a home brew campaign, only pre made modules. Not looking for DnD the Critical Role Edition. DnD 5e is fine as it is. I dont want to play with Matt Mercer's optional rules.  My Availability:  Preferably Week days, except Thursday. Mon - Wednesday. Time of day is not an issue. I am disabled and retired and have the luxury of time.  What I would like to play: Character wise: I am open to most classes, as the party needs. However, preferred classes would be: Cleric, Wizard, Cleric/Warlock or Eldritch Knight. maybe an Oathbreaker.  Race: Depends on Class  Why: I am disabled in real life after years spent in combat. I want to spend my time healing and protecting people when i get the chance to roleplay. Something i didn't get the chance to do in real life. For me, Role play is a form of Therapy. Campaign wise: I'll be honest, I am looking for any campaign. Curse of Strahd would be amazing, however i did try this before. I know this is a difficult campaign but after 2 months, our group never won an actual fight. We had to run away from every single encounter. Seriously, that is not fun, difficult campaign or not. I felt demoralized and beat up before, during and after every session. It was depressing and sad. I know it is suppose to be a Horrific campaign, but it is still a game and suppose to be fun. However, i am willing to consider something else. NO Tomb of Annihilation and No Homebrew made up stuff.  Experience with DnD : I've played on and off since the early 2000's

First I want to thank you for your service. You'll never know how much I needed to read this post. I'm an old school gamer from the 80's and 90's....waiting for laughing.....ok. I had a few campaigns in early two thousands then life took over. Since then I have known something was missing. With everyone being homebound I started getting a lot of online Tabletop gaming videos popping up in my youtube feed, it occurred to me that this is what I needed, I had been wanting to start a campaign for over a decade but just never happened, most people suck (including me). But I decided to start looking into all this online stuff because I am actually pretty good with computers and built websites but none of that was fun this was like wow I can put my skills to use doing something I love, I'm in!  So now we are to the part where I discovered I was a few editions out of touch, we won't say how many... Sooo I picked up about 8 source books for 5E and started researching online gaming and now here I am running two screens on my laptop expanding my gaming world really excited to run a hopefully long campaign and get to know some people I might actually have something in common with. I don't seem to care for most people now a days but none of the people I work with, except 1, are actually tabletop gamers, its too nerdy for them. Sorry I really digressed but I wanted to share a little with you since you were so forthcoming with us. So getting to it, holy crap you have to submit an application to join a game. That's intense and very enlightening for DM new to online gaming also, you are exactly one kind of player I would love to have join our Campaign. I say ours because I believe once the campaign starts it's no longer just my campaign, it becomes a huge tale told by a group. While reading your post I realized you wouldn't want join and here's why. I don't run one shot book set up modules (old school sorry), I mix their content and ideas in but to me a campaign is a World and I have a huge fleshed out world that was started decades ago and has been building ever since. It's even more massive and diverse now with all the new stuff I've gotten from the 5E source books. Also 'rules as written' and the modules too strict and boring. I don't really rewrite rules, I play to the characters. I don't force people to roll their stats and I give them more than 20 or so points to add to scores that start at 8. Also My campaign will start with characters that are already level 8 or 9 or multi classed with maxed total levels of 11. I'm sure I've lost you by now but I'm gonna keep going anyways. I plan to start a second group after the first one gets going to hopefully see if they will effect one another's stories and possibly cross paths or merge at some point. Back in the day I ran a campaign that lasted two years and I averaged 8-10 people per session with 6 stead fast and the others revolving. I had times when we maxed out at 18 people and man was that a blast. Sorry I digressed again. People can play races and classes from pretty much any 5E source book as long as it doesn't involve guns, lasers or anything like that (I'm trying to cope with Warforged). Leveling up to me is more than killing monsters and getting gold it's about roleplaying, accomplishments in a world, teamwork, etc. so leveling is probably one thing I'm strict on but by my rules. Also I'm not out to kill the group I'm out to have fun and see others have fun. In fact I've only killed off one character in my whole DM experience. There are so many creative ways characters can save each or be brought back, this is fantasy after all. There will be gods and planes involved because there is magic and there be clerics and Paladins and Dragons and stuff. I give characters a lot of creative leeway and let them take skills (now called feats) that fit their character not some strict you can have two then one later on. If it works with your story and you don't want every skill sorry Feat I can work with that. You've probably either stopped reading by now or fallen asleep so I will finish up. There is a lot more to gaming with me than just that but I can game with someone who has never played or is a veteran gamer and make it work. To me this is about imagination and fun and one thing I have an overabundance of is imagination and the one thing I need in my life is a little fun. So now my 120lb dog is nagging me to play and if i don't he will wake up the whole house and its never good to disturb your sleeping wife. I hope we both find what we are looking for in a gaming session and group. Good Luck to ya Fred. PS sorry for grammar and sentence/paragraph structure.....
