Once upon a time, there was a half-orc named Chris. Chris had a beloved companion. This beloved companion was a ragged, goblin sock-puppet he carried on his shoulder and talked to, named Telmo. One day, Chris had a little too much to drink (as he was want to do) and passed out drunk in his local tavern. When he awoke, he found himself in the bowels of a fantastic, magical palace. A band of adventurers discovered him in the back of a store room, half asleep on a stack of barrels. They explained to him that he was in The Palace of 1001 Rooms, a place where all the chambers are connected by magical portals. Chris looked at the portal in disbelief as his new found companions insisted that he must be the one to go first through it. So he did. But before he did, he tossed his beloved Telmo through first and then followed after. To his tragic dismay, Telmo was nowhere to be seen in the next chamber. It seems that inanimate objects not in the possession of a sentient being just 'disappear' if tossed into the portals. Chris looked and looked before going into a rage and trying to destroy everything around him. Eventually, he calmed down, only to sink into a deep depression. A bottle of cider became his new friend as his companions drug him from chamber to chamber. Chris would go on to capture a live goblin, which he unsuccessfully tried to force into being his Telmo replacement (Telmo 2.0), but eventually, it too was lost when he flung it at a giant spider and missed, hitting a marble bench seat instead. Chris goes on, searching the never-ending halls for his lost Telmo. The moral of the story? Don't throw things through strange portals? Try not to drink so much? I don't know. I'm just the GM.
Never forget they were best friends/lovers
