Need help to make assets for maps

HI, i'm a PixelArtist and i was willing to make some stuff for DM that want their adventures in a PixelArt style. I want to create some assets, what would you like? Be the basics or something specific for your campaing. MI intention is to make a pack for free and have other packs for a rather low price. I need to find a software to make maps using existing assets, anyone know one? As saiud, my plan is to have some maps and be open for anyone that want to hire me to make some

Most mapping programs will allow you to bring in your own assets to build a map. I recommend Other World Mapper or Wonderdraft for that purpose. Generally you will either sell the assets as a png downloadable pack on Roll20, or the finished maps. There are no 'free packs' on Roll20, the minimal price is $4.99. You cannot do commissions for custom work on Roll20, only sell premade packs.

"Free packs" are things you have to negotiate with Roll20 on.  Usually the "free packs" that they have are from the big publishers as a way to pull people toward buying their more expensive games/campaigns or are special items commissioned by Roll20 for various reasons.  They do this so there isn't a race to the bottom in the Marketplace. Hosting your art on their servers costs them a bit of money, so they scrape 30% of the profits off the top to make up for it.  If they let everyone put up free content then they aren't profiting and they won't recoup their fees.  Further, there are a lot of talented artists on here trying to make a little money.  Having a bunch of free content suddenly available will draw customers from them and devalue their work.  This will actually benefit you as an artist in the long run because it will mean you will be able to make a profit off your work once people start buying.  Further, it's not too hard to get noticed on here because there's not really any dreaded 'algorithm' to combat.  When you release, you end up on the first page of the market.  Since every pack has to get approved by a human, there are generally a limited number of releases in any given day, meaning your packs are less likely to get buried immediately by a sudden avalanche of releases.  Your tags ensure your packs are searchable.  If you put up a topic in this forum you can draw attention to your work.  If you add a link to your seller page into your profile, you make it easier for people to see what you have up for sale if they get curious when you reply to a topic in the forums because, as you see, you get a handy "Marketplace Creator" banner put next to your name. On the matter of pixel art, there aren't as many artist that do it, but there is probably a bit of a market for it.  I'd suggest doing an investigation of the marketplace to see what's already available and what it sells for to give you a clue on how to price your work.  $4.99 is pretty cheap so the more you stuff into a $4.99 pack, the better value you're giving them if that's your aim. On the making maps side... I generally just save different assets I plan to use as a tileable texture then fill where needed while making prodigious use of grids and "snap to grid".  People who work more exclusively at maps probably have other tricks.

Yeah, I've been making maps for over a decade now... I have never done that once. Now, 'scatter brushes'. Those I use to achieve fill faster, depending on what I'm filling. If the OP's goal was to create a funnel via free samples, I recommend say, posting a set of 6 tokens from a larger set on social media or an art portfolio page! Then link that to the Roll20 full version for pay! This is a technique that does work well without devaluing the marketplace.

Well, it's an especially helpful trick if you need all your edges on a tile set to match up with the next one in the set.  You might get less use of it on a full scale map, though.

First off, OP, have you applied to be on the marketplace yet, or read through the FAQ post about creating assets?  There's also a post on Asset Quality page that talks about reskins and recolors that you might find helpful.  You should start with the FAQ first and then apply.  They go over image sizes, file sizes, etc, and as others have mentioned, you cannot sell stuff for free.  I'm a pretty small scale artist on this platform and I can tell you that it'll still sell without undercutting yourself and everybody else. That's a bit different than hosting a free pack on Roll20, though, which is what the OP originally mentioned.  My reply was merely to try to clarify what seems to be Roll20's general policy because there ARE a few free packs on the Marketplace despite the general "no free packs" ban in their guidelines.  People who have applied and been accepted are allowed to post art on this forum, so that has you covered in all likelihood..  Outside of Roll20's site and rules, you can advertise however you want.  If I was more into social media, I'd probably do something similar to what you guys are doing with a few samples of my work.  As it it is, I mostly just show off stuff to my gaming group, and let them disseminate to their other gaming groups through word of mouth.  Either way, even with my minimal advertising I've had more success than I was originally expecting, which I partially chalk up to the policies that ensure that we can't undercut each other's prices too much on site.
