I hope this pitch sounds as good to some others as it does in my head.
I would like to get a sandbox Forgotten Realms game off the ground with a group capable of running the game in a rotation. DMs will be players, players will be DMs. Having experience as a dungeon master (specifically in Roll20) will be essential. Otherwise, the only constraint is that we will be starting with the current canon Forgotten Realms so that everyone has the same baseline to work from. Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun and Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerun will be key reading material. We will not deviate from the source material (unless our player characters make big moves to change it as our timeline progresses) to ensure that we are all working on stays fluid (and referenceable if folks want to do extra homework). This should not wind up like DC having to write Crisis on Infinite Earths to consolidate years of unorganized, sloppy work.
If everyone is prepared and well-read, the rest should fall into place quickly. If DMs are capable of what I am describing, they should be assets to the DM as players, able to pivot and assist when the table gets sidetracked or confused.
So what I am proposing right now is a Session Zero rather than a real game. That is when something will be put together collectively, with everyone putting all their cards on the table.
