Tokens on the Map Layer + Aura

I have objects that have an aura. If I put those objects on the Map layer, the auras will disappear. If they are moved to the GM layer, the aura goes away. How would I keep the aura visible when the object is on the map layer?

Auras only display on object layer items. What are you trying to achieve that would be helped by putting them on a different layer?

It's to provide me a reminder that something happens when a token gets into that area, without signaling the players that something is up.

I just use a token whose image is a transparent png, with an aura that is only visible to the GM. That way it can stay on the object layer.
