[LFP][Free][D&D5e] Wednesdays or Thursdays homebrew game.

Hello weary traveler! Sit down, let me get you a pint. Can I interest you in a little game? The game? Why Dungeons and Dragons of course! I am looking for a group of adventurers to run a series of one/two-shots that I've strung together to form a mini-campaign. The games will have to be on either Wednesday or Thursday preferably early in the day around 10 or 11 PST. Now there is a lot of flexibility in the start time all the way to start the game at night and I might be able to swing Friday if there is no other option as long as it's early in the day. I need 3-5 like-minded players (no more no less) About the Game: (Homebrew adventure) Set in the Forgotten Realms, this campaign entirely takes place in the small isolated town of RavensHallow. Located far east of the sword coast nettled away in the north, RavensHallow was once a prosperous mining town. Over the years RavensHallow attracted those who did not fit into normal societies, or rather, those who did not wish to fit in. From outcasts to criminals to perhaps...reasons far more sinister, RavensHallow became a safe haven far from the reaches and politics of the major cities. And for the most part, the people of the town lived in a kind of harmony. RavensHallow attracts few visitors, and since the mine shut down, fewer traders as well. Why am I telling you about this town? Well, today a letter arrived bearing grim news. An old mentor of yours has died. Yes, he was getting on in years, but you'd of thought the old stubborn bastard would refuse to die from old age. Without his guidance, you are not sure where your life would have ended up. He was curt, ruthless, and rude. On more than one occasion he had beat some sense into you (quite literally). He was also selfless and kind and you have fond memories of his stories about his life as an adventurer. He was a major influence in your life, even if it has been years since you have seen, or even thought about him. The news of his death kicks you in the stomach, much like the way his boot used to if you ever mouthed off to him. The letter does not explain how he died only that it was sudden and that you have been named in his Will. The location of his funeral is in a town called Ravenshallow and you are expected to leave immediately. The letter was sent by his niece Nina. You didn't even know he had any family, he had never mentioned any before. It will take a few days by carriage to get there, Nina was kind enough to send silver to pay for the journey. You pack your belongings ready yourself for the trip, Unaware of just how much your life is about to change.  -Starting at level 2 this mini-campaign will most likely get you to level 7. -All Forgotten Realms classes/races are okay. No homebrew/UA -Stats will be rolled during session zero. (avg HP per level) Feats are okay. -This game will primarily feature dark and horror themes 18+. Psychological and classic horror themes with some mild body horror as well.  -This is a high Roleplay game with a good mix of combat, puzzles, and the like.  -NO tolerance for racism or hate speech or verbal abuse of any kind.  -Difficulty 7.5/10 Probably not suited for brand new players, but if you understand the rules and how to strategize you'll probably do fine. Metagaming is strongly discouraged -We will use Discord for voice and Roll20 as our platform. Video via Roll20 if possible because I've found that it helps with online games. (optional) About the DM: My name is Deavon, he/him, I am 30 years old, and I've been playing d&d since I was 11. I haven't played for several months now due to work but I've definitely been missing it. Movies and Games I like include; Dark souls, Bloodborne, FFXIV, Lotr, GoT, Harry Potter, The Witcher, IT, The Thing, or any of the old classic (cheesy) Horror movies. Books I like Include; Anything from Steven King or Dean Koontz, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, Ready player 1, The Demonata series, Cirque du freak series. I enjoy creating immersive stories set in dark and gritty settings.  About You: If you have gotten this far and are interested in playing this game please post an Application down below. I will wait about a week or so before picking players and ill need to conduct a short Discord interview to find a good group of people that I think will mesh well with each other and myself. Character creation will happen in a mandatory session Zero. Where he will go over expectations, rules, and of course character creation.  Thanks for reading my post and I hope to hear from you soon!  Name, Age, Pronouns: Little about yourself: Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): What aspect of D&D most attracts you: Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: How can I contact you (Discord preferred):  Timezone and preferred times/days: Any other comments or questions:
Name, Age, Pronouns:   Red, 28, he/him Little about yourself: Hi! I’m an engineer, and a musician. I’m an extrovert and a natural problem solver. I love puzzles, and attempting to resolve social situations with the best possible outcome. I enjoy creating things, and I can appreciate others’ works as much or more than my own, especially if they’re well thought through. I’m also a proud father, and have been known to brag on my family (think Major Hughes if you’ve ever seen Fullmetal Alchemist). Bonus: I’m actually looking for a DM for a whole group of 4 players including myself. If you want to interview everyone separately, I completely understand, I can vouch that all of us are good at both role play and combat, and we work together well. Please let me know if you’d be interested in running this game for our group!  Bonus 2: I sometimes compose simple music tracks inspired by games I play. Sometimes character themes, sometimes ambience/location based. If you’re interested in possibly using that music as part of the game, just let me know! Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: I’ve been playing TTRPGs for about 6 years now. Mostly 5e, with the occasional Stars Without Numbers or FATE game, but I love experiencing new systems as well. By the way, if you’re into near-future, supernatural horror settings, look into Kuro, which is a Japanese ttrpg.  Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): This is a hard one to narrow down, as my interests are pretty eclectic. Dresden Files (or anything by Jim Butcher), Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Expanse, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Ready Player One (the book), Harry Potter. I’m sure there’s more I haven’t thought of. You’ll notice I’m not super into Slasher movies and whatnot, but I’ve played in grimdark settings before and enjoyed it.  What aspect of D&D most attracts you: The characters. Social Interactions, worldbuilding, development. It’s all about the characters in the story and how they interact. The highest compliment I can pay to a gm of a homebrew game, is that their characters felt real and alive. That goes for players as well. Some of the most fun I have at the table is when the PCs’ characters develop their own rapport.  Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it:  Im honestly pretty used to being the “fill” in my group. Mechanically, I don’t mind playing whatever the group “needs” to round it out and then build a story from there that is rooted in and consistent with the setting. I always try to build my characters from the setting. Just offhand, reading your description, I can think of a few characters I’ve built previously that could be made to fit. First one would be a dual weapon fighter, Jorran, who was trained (ostensibly by the deceased) how to fight, and instilled him with the core belief: never surrender and you’ll never truly lose. Super high level, and I’d prefer discussing with the GM and including them in the story we can write with the character through the events of the game. How can I contact you (Discord preferred): Discord: RedLeader#6634 Timezone and preferred times/days: you said there was some flexibility on the time for Thursdays? Would you be able to do approximately 7:00pm Central time? That’s our usual time slot for my group. Please let me know if you need to move it either direction by half an hour or so. I’m usually the latest one in attendance due to putting my 2y.o. to bed. Any other comments or questions: After reading about your game idea and a little about yourself, I think you’d be a great DM to play with. Your story hook really got me sold on the mystery. I also think you’d be a pretty good fit with the whole group I play with. Again feel free to interview everyone else and come to your own conclusion on that front. Please feel free to contact me for any more information about anything I’ve mentioned. All that said, I really look forward to the opportunity to game with you.
Name, Age, Pronouns: Blank, 37, He Little about yourself: I prefer not to talk to much about myself publicly. If you wish to chat more in private that is fine. Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: Quite a bit in dnd 3.5, pathfinder, and dnd 5e Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): All three. I certainly do love horror genre so it works best What aspect of D&D most attracts you: The ability to do things I can not do irl. Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: To be honest I can think of several different chars that would work well. I have several chars that I have backstories for that would work well just have to add the stats and enter everything in that would work well. And a few that would be quite amusing group wise as well if wanted to add some light heartedness to it. How can I contact you (Discord preferred): Discord: Blank#7285 Timezone and preferred times/days: Cst, and your set time would work perfect for me on wedensdays. Thursday i'd have to by 3pm pst which is 5pm cst. Otherwise i'm good. Any other comments or questions: How soon are you looking at starting once you gather the group together?
This sounds fantastic! Both my partner and I are very interested! We're available on Wednesdays (also Mondays if ever needed) and have been looking for a game with horror themes! This game sounds like something I'd really like since it seems like you have pretty good taste! Name, Age, Pronouns: Cecil, 26, They/Them Little about yourself: I'm a pretty big horror fan in general. I usually tend to gravitate to more roleplay-based games. For me, it's mostly about cooperating together to tell a good story as well as building relationships between my PC, the NPCs, and other PCs. I haven't had the opportunity to play in a lot of games since I am usually the only one who wants to run games haha. I guess I'm not super high maintenance as long as we're all having fun. I'm not one to argue with the DM and I don't have to be the center of attention all of the time.  Experience, if any, with TTRPGs : I've mostly just had the experience of running games (with a few exceptions). I'm pretty much self-taught. It's sort of embarrassing but I'm still learning things even though I've been a GM for around 3 years. It would be cool to learn from someone with a lot of experience! I have the most experience with D&D 5e but I've also run Call of Cthulhu 7e (Also Glitter Hearts but it was only a couple of sessions). I've been a player in a few 5e sessions as well as a Monster of the Week Campaign. Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames):   I LOVE the Silent Hill franchise, especially Silent Hill 2. Some other games I'm into are Darkest Dungeon, Dark Souls, The Witcher 3, Danganronpa, all of the games in the Dragon Age franchise, Fable 2 & 3 (I haven't played 1), and FFX-2. In terms of movies, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Perfect Blue, the first Silent Hill movie, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, and Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai are some big ones for me. Some shows I like are Promised Neverland, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Magical Girl Site, and Wonder Egg Priority. I'm pretty into Brave New World, People of the Abyss, 1984, and The works of H.P. Lovecraft in general. I'm also inspired by internet unfiction like Smile Guide, The Walten Files, and some of the stuff Alan Resnick has done. Some music artists like Dated, Yeule, The Caretaker, and Poppy inspire me too. What aspect of D&D most attracts you: I absolutely love exploring the worlds that people make whenever I'm able to be a player! Roleplay and storytelling are HUGE for me too. Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: I was thinking of making a Yuan-Ti Pureblood who is a Swarmkeeper Ranger. How can I contact you (Discord preferred):  I'm PremaritalHug#5333 Timezone and preferred times/days: I'm in the EDT timezone and my preferred days are Mondays and Wednesdays, pretty much anytime after 11:00 AM - 3:00 AM Any other comments or questions: I'll have my partner fill this out below. Other than that, I'm honestly just really interested in playing!  Ps. Sorry for the novel haha
(My partner's answers) Name, Age, Pronouns:  Quentin 23 he/they/him Little about yourself:  I'm the guy I like horror and bideo bames play a lot of rpgs and fuks with the diaper pop and shoegaze Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: I've played d&d mostly with my partner dming for me plus coc Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): I'm big gay for the resident evil and silent hill I love nier automata and dead rising  I've played all the soulsbourne except sekero, I've even played og demon souls but my favorite is bloodbourne when it comes to horror I feel as the og silent hill trilogy is the tits and the walten files and trail of blood are some of the most effective horror I've ingested What aspect of D&D most attracts you: the role-play, being able to flesh out my character personality-wise and grow with the narrative Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: How can I contact you (Discord preferred):  discord Timezone and preferred times/days: same as listed by my Cecil Any other comments or questions: could I play a mildly evil character?
Name, Age, Pronouns: James, 23, He/Him Little about yourself: I'm a chef working out of New Mexico looking to spend my couple days off playing a fun game of D&D with a new group of people. I love getting to bring my creativity and love of the game to the table and encourage others to play the character they really want to play. Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: I've been playing 5e D&D for 4 years now and am still learning new things and applications of spells every day. Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): Just fantasy settings in general. Anything from Lord of the Rings to Dark Souls. What aspect of D&D most attracts you: I really enjoy getting to roleplay and build a story with the group all around. Bonding with NPCs, pulling off almost impossible things with the party, investing in the world to see it really flourish. That said I also love to fight big things. Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: I have a number of characters I'd love to play some day, but I would like to role fill. Just as some examples, a run-away med student, a bandit turned adventurer (not evil), a paladin poet, and a really Disney princess vibe Druid with an interest in lost history. How can I contact you (Discord preferred): Feel free to reach out on Discord! (Jymerric#5434) Timezone and preferred times/days: My preferred day is Thursday because I'm free the entire day and will absolutely be present. I can also make a Wednesday session starting at like 7:00 a.m. Any other comments or questions: I'd be very excited to join and would love to hear all about the stories this group has about using spells or mechanics in D&D in a really creative and game changing way. Those stories rule and I have some I'd like to share in return.
Name, Age, Pronouns: Rob , 40, he/him Little about yourself: I'm a dog trainer, I recently moved to New Hampshire, from Connecticut so kinda lost all my in person rp groups.  Love horror, and Halloween is my favorite time of year.   I like video games, my favorite are slow paced strategy games like CIV and Stellaris or ones that have a heavy rp aspect like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, or horror games like DBD and Alan Wake. I enjoy reading, especially at the beach....... this is starting to sound more like a dating profile lmao Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: I have played D&D 4th and 5th edition for several years, and VTM and FATE.  I have also GM'd all of them.  Currently am GMing 2 5E games but want to be a player more and LOVE horror. Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): Already put video games, books I like all sorts.  Read most of Steven King's work, my favorite is the Dark Tower series and all the books that tie into it (so mostly everything lol), The Wheel of Time, The Sword of Truth, Harry Potter, Dresdin Files, Game of Thrones, David Eddings, Agatha Christy... I read a lot lol.  I'm not a big move person but, LOTR, Star Wars, The MCU.  I like TV shows as they tell a longer and more in depth story: Teen Wolf, Lucifer, Charmed, Leverage, Burn Notice, Friends, Supernatural, Smallville, many more What aspect of D&D most attracts you: I identify at least a little as my characters and what I like most is getting to be a part of a great story.  Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: Was thinking maybe a Bloodhunter as it kind of fits a horror theme, but it's technically a homebrew even though it's on D&D Beyond, so if it's not ok maybe a Tempest Cleric. How can I contact you (Discord preferred):  Discord: Confessorx#0834 Timezone and preferred times/days: Timezone: EST  I can't do Friday or Saturday evenings but am free any other time. Any other comments or questions: Great hook, sounds like it's going to be a blast.  Hope I get to play.
Dear Deavon C. Do you have all the players that you need? If so, then good luck with the game, otherwise I would like to apply. Kind regards Frenchie

Hello. Name, Age, Pronouns: Curtis, 48, He/Him Little about yourself:  Prefer a mature GM/group and the core mechanics system really doesn't really matter.  I have 25+ years under my belt, predominantly as a GM, and have run the gamut of different rpgs from simple to complex, fantasy/scifi/horror/postapoc/superhero/cyberpunk/etc.  I enjoy roleplaying, immersion, investment in the character as well as exploring the campaign setting/ambiance, purposeful combat, and comprehensive, interesting narratives.  I'm definitely a team player and can fill whatever role is necessary from a party face to a support character.  I consider my player decorum to be amiable, respectful of the other players and GM, I show up on time, and contribute.  Professionally, I'm a behavioral specialist and prior to that my career was in culinary management.  I'm also an avid guitarist, writer, painter, etc.  Anything creative, really. Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: Almost 30 years now. Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames):  Honestly, the human condition itself but referentially, esoterica, gritty non-fiction, and sci-fi. What aspect of D&D most attracts you: The cooperative experience of creating a living event in the company of others, the narrative, immersion, and the chance to disassociate myself from myself and step into someone else's shoes for a few hours in a familiar yet altered world. Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: No, not really.  I tend to try to understand the setting and the lore before imagining the individual I would like to create/explore.  How can I contact you (Discord preferred):  Curtis#5948 Timezone and preferred times/days: CST.  Thursdays would be ideal as it's one of my days off, the other being Monday.  The time should be no issue as long as it's set in advance and agreed upon. Any other comments or questions: I'm intrigued at the aspect of a psychological drama in which the unknown lingers both on the periphery, slightly over one's shoulder, and ever-present, even if it's not immediate acknowledged, as an irritant in the depths of one's subconscious.   I look forward to hearing more concerning the both the setting and ambiance of your narrative in order to find my characters place beneath the overcast, sullen sky as he prepares himself to trek to RavensHallow to bid farewell to possibly the most influential person he has ever known. Take care and kindest regards. Curtis
If you are still taking applications: Name, Age, Pronouns: Ferret is fine online, 34, Any/All (default to He/They) Little about yourself: I'm a decent fellow I'd like to think, writer by trade who likes to make third party game stuff on the side. I really enjoy TTRPGs not just as a hobby but as a kind of interactive performance art, as pretentious as that probably says. I think there is something primal in human nature about collaborative storytelling and RPGs do that today like modern bards. Did I mention I was a writer? :p  Other than that I'm just a guy who likes making new friends through the hobby, telling cool stories, and who is not great at selling themselves, sadly. Experience, if any, with TTRPGs: My little edgelord self got started with VtM in the 90s at around 11 but I didn't get to play until I was around 13. I got all the edge out of my system LONG ago and have dabbled in many systems since then. I tend to stick to the WoD and PbtA spheres but every now and again I get the urge for GOOD D&D or fantasy games. This pitch seems right up my alley and, while I'm not the most knowledgeable on 5e, I am more than willing to put in the work and be an avid player and companion to the table. Biggest creative influences (movies, books, videogames): Music is a big one, I learned a lot of words through it and have a vastly eclectic taste that generally only excludes the Blues (I have depression enough as is). Books wise I love Jack Vance's "Dying Earth" series and was a major fantasy head back in the younger years even if most of those others are more than problematic now or have been discovered to be. However their worlds still inspire me even if I don't look up to the authors anymore. Cinema wise I love Doom Patrol, Into the Badlands, and Mad Max: Fury Road for a few. The disparate "found family of fuckos making it as best they can" has always grabbed me. Video Game wise I think Suikoden 1 & 2 had major influences on me as did Haunting Ground, Clock Tower, and other survival horror games. What aspect of D&D most attracts you: The fantasy world aspect. It can be used to create vast stories and tales which are unheard of in our day to day existence and allows for great stories to be told with the right groups. Do you already have a character you want to play in mind? if so tell me about it: I have concepts that can be hammered out more. I love Faerun and if possible would like to play a Cleric or Paladin of Loviatar (perhaps a Divine Soul Sorcerer) or perhaps a Barbarian or Fighter. I'm looking to try out the setting you have stated of being in a more "risky" and underhanded locale by playing an Evil character without playing an "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee-vil" monstrosity of a character. How can I contact you (Discord preferred):  Discord is fine, Ferretheim#2209 Timezone and preferred times/days: I think you talked about doing it morning or early which I could do either on Wednesday or Thursday. Otherwise I could do nights on Wednesdays. Any other comments or questions: I hope you are still taking applications. If not I hope you and your players have a lovely game! May you be well during these times.
