Announcing the New Character Sheet for D&D 2024

Hi! Is the new sheet fully available? I've seen someone saying it's only after 10 AM EST, just want to confirm because right now, I'm unable to level up a character which is a BIG issue, and seems there are no items or spells to choose from, everything needs to be manually created or drag and dropped, I love the drag and drop, but it's expected to be the only way a player can add items and spells automatically? Other than that, I'm loving the new sheet and satisfied with the purchase, will definitely migrate from DND Beyond to Roll20 in this new era.

I loaded an adventure addon into a new jumpgate game with both the 2024 and 2014 sheets. The NPCs loaded in the 2024 sheet as PCs, and I could not find a way to switch them back to NPCs. Am I missing something here, or is it not ready for use with marketplace addons? EDIT: Never mind, I'll check back in a few hours.

I thought the fully functional sheet wasn’t releasing until 10am EST…
Is there an option to add custom counters to Abilities, or in genneral for stuff you wanna keep track off? Also for example on bardci inspiration, will the option be added to increase or decrease the automatically calculated number of uses? I personally was hoping to get to use the old sheet with the new stuff too...bit of a let down that you cant even look up 2024 stuff in the compendium when you using the 2014 sheets....
Deleted my first post complaining about issues with the 2024 sheet since I am seeing posts mentioning a 10am EDT start to the new sheet working properly. There should be a big banner on a day like today letting all users know the timeline and status of stuff. We are expecting to start using these new features and content that we are paying for.
Hi everyone I'm using the new Players Handbook (2024) to fill the Character Sheet, but many features are not working properly Like spell casting ability on spells, Divine Order for Clerics (you can choose the order but nothing on the sheet changes) Is it normal due to new sheet to be improved or will this be how it will work in the future? I would be quite upset not to have all features working in the Character Sheet
They just posted it will be in Beta a bit longer…

Titus said: They just posted it will be in Beta a bit longer… Could you share the post with me, please? EDIT: It's in the blog, the issue with this still being beta is the level up, if we can't level up characters it's expected we create a new one every time there's a level up?
I apologise if this has been answere before, but is the new character creator in dark mode only? That makes it unavailable to me and a lot of other people with visual challenges.

Simira said: I apologise if this has been answere before, but is the new character creator in dark mode only? That makes it unavailable to me and a lot of other people with visual challenges. According to their roadmap Light Mode is scheduled for Winter 24/25… Bottom of blog post here: https://blog.roll20.net/posts/play-dd-2024-your-way-on-roll20/
That is BS. I hate myself for making pre-order and believing that a big company has some decency to release anything on time
Are they forcing us to use the 2024 sheet in order to use 2024 rules? I have no options for 2024 rules on 2014 sheet and on 2024 it only allows one roll for stats and I can't enter characteristics Ideals/Bonds/Flaws, equipment, currency's.
I loaded up Curse of Strahd and went to check my previous (2014 style sheets) working as they should, switched the style over to 2024 and they have not been converted... No problem, I assumed it wouldn't be that easy. Made a new sheet and started remaking my player's characters. First issues that have come up for me are as follows: Character sheets do not gain HP bonus from Constitution modifier Spells are not properly tied with ability scores (i.e my cleric with wisdom of 17 should have a DC of 13. This is displayed correctly on the character sheet, however the spells themselves show DC 8? Incorrect or no ability score tied there) Spells that should have ability score modifiers added on (such as healing word, cure wounds) are not present 2014 spells are still present despite only enabling 2024 content Background feats (Magic initiate for sage) are not coded into the character builder No level up builder? How is that not a priority? I'm assuming these issues will be fixed eventually, but I'm pretty upset I couldn't use the new lick of paint today ;-;

I am finding the background and origin feats aren't working correctly. You they are not adding the +1 or selectable when using the character creation, also Backgrounds need to be customisable as the backgrounds as they are, are very clunky to get the right attributes. thanks
This new character sheet isn't something I can use as of the scheduled release date/time. Stats aren't being tied to spellcasting modifiers correctly, gear isn't populated, and other small bugs exist throughout, but equally bad is the on-screen size of the sheets. They're just too big, even in compact mode. Shrinking their width makes them blocky and gunky with things like long character names running out of their box and the stat boxes not stacking, so you've got one row of 4 stats/saves, then beneath it another row with only the other 2 stats/saves . . . and 5 1/2 inches (on my monitor) of dead space. There's too many sub-menus for everything, and no customization options. For example, the Inspiration and Initiative bars are fully 1 and 1/2 inches long each (on my monitor), with no ability to shrink them. I'm not going to cancel my subscription or anything, and I expected some bugs, but this is far worse then I expected. And the one thing that WOULD have offered relief: using new content in old, familiar sheets - isn't allowed. So my big ask while the new character sheet bugs get ironed out: allow as much of the compendium as possible to drag/drop into the old character sheets, even if it's just the text of the features/traits and spell revisions. I can work with that if my players can put even that much on their existing sheets.
I wish there was some way to upvote or like comments, Jon B. Every single thing you mentioned, yes, please.
Hey folks -- we'll post the announcement shortly, but the new sheet is live! We're working through your list above and will share responses soon. Thanks for your patience!

I'm sorry Bianca, but the new sheet isn't live, it is on life support at best, and as far as my games are concerned it is dead on arrival. We desperately need access to 2024 PHB content in the classic character sheet. Don't worry about the Charactermancer, just being able to drag and drop would be HUGE.

I agree with Jon B. and Simira. The new characters sheets are not looking great on my PC. Just so much dead space. Weirdly though, it looks okay on mobile, on my phone and on my tablet it seems spaced out correctly. Definitely needs some more work. Also, I made a monk character with Tavern Brawler feat and the character sheet was grabbing the damage from Tavern Brawler instead of Martial Arts.

Updates on the new character sheet are now on the blog . Answering some specific questions: If you want to use the 2024 rules, including the character builder, drag & drop, and skills such as weapon mastery, you have to use the new sheet to play. The 2014 sheet does not support the 2024 ruleset out of the box. The character builder is still in beta (not the sheet!). Level up in the builder is not available yet, but it will be soon in early October. I'll edit here with an update. Starting equipment isn't automatically added yet, and part of what we're working on now. To use NPCs assigned to 2014 sheets, enable both sheets in your Jumpgate game . NPCs will automatically open in the correct sheet. We don't have counters yet (for things like ammo) but they will be built into the sheet, including custom options. Light mode is on our roadmap for winter. I'll try to respond to other specific questions following this post. ----- If you are finding bugs, please use the feedback form and let us know!
Ah, the mobile approach. Who uses computers and readable screens any more anyway... Yes, give us the 2024 options to pull out to the classic sheets, pretty please with sugar and marshmallows and everything sweet there is in the world!
"The sarcasm is strong in this one ..." :D I totally agree. Personally, my two, side-by-side 24" monitors have barely enough screen real estate for DMing. Now, if I wanted to use the 2024 sheets, that would apply to playing as well. IMO, WOTC didn't even allows themselves enough time to develop their own character sheet on DnDBeyond; Roll20 (and everyone else) could hardly be expected to have a bug-free version ready in time. As the saying goes: never expect version 1.0 of anything to work as desired. Simira said: Ah, the mobile approach. Who uses computers and readable screens any more anyway...
Dave said: The new sheet looks nice if you aren't using them in a game. The moment you need to find information on them, they're poorly laid out and bulky. Also, compact mode is not compact at all. A compact mode that closely mirrored the information density of the old sheet - simple and highly functional - would be a relief. Also, as a DM, the NPC blocks are incredibly bloated with blank space as well. I really don't need it to look pretty - I need to get to my information fast. The new PHB's blocks are dense and efficient, similar to the block you have in the compendium entry. The Aberrant Spirit stat block as an in-game NPC, however, takes up two entire monitors of real estate. That's not good. I'd really, REALLY love to just have an interactive version of that compendium stat block. I just saw the new compact mode for player sheets. It's very nice. This is a major improvement and it's now a highly usable layout! Thrilled. NPC sheets are still a nightmare, but it seems you guys are aware of it and I'm very glad to see things moving in the right direction. I imagine NPC blocks will get a similar treatment soon? Once that's sorted and bugs are smoothed out, I look forward to migrating to the new sheets.

Roll20 Marketing department rolled an 18 on persuading me to pre-order 2024 D&D. Roll20 Development/QC Rolled a 1 on their Crafting check. Time to get a team of wizards to cast Mending and get this thing working. If they had a high level wizard, they could cast Time Stop and get it fixed while the world is paused. Unfortunately, for Roll20 and its customers, we live in the real world and you really only get one chance to get it right in a roll-out this big. I definitely learned something and will adjust, I just hope Roll20 does too.
I agree with the comments that the 2024 Character Sheets have too much dead space..... also I dislike the advertising options of related books that pop up when I use compendiums. Some of them I already purchased - like Xanathars and Tashas. It is more dead space. Also just accessing the content in the 2024 PhB so that I can try to read it normally is hugely frustrating. Lots of links through dead space..... I want to read the new PhB by paging through it - not just searching for a topic. I don't feel like I can do that

How is "Leveling up" not a launch option. Seriously other things can be worked around, but if you aren't going to make things available for use when we were told they were going to be available, that is straight up a scam. What does "Soon" mean. Does it mean sometime today, does it mean next week, does it mean sometime this year? Vague answers only piss people off more when it comes to situations like this where the product they paid for is already a let down. As of right now there is no ability to play the game outside of level 1 characters on your site using the new rules. Can we please get an update with an actual time goal for being able to use the sheet effectively and be able to level our characters? I can only imagine things are crazy for the developers right now and they are trying their best, which is why I am not leaving Roll20 with all of my players yet, but it would be nice to have a timetable to work with and for someone to be open and realistic with what time goals are being set for the new sheet

I can see the frustration with the Builder, but I understand the reasoning. Remember that the 2014 sheet existed for many ears without charactermancer. I am content to wait a while on this feature, but still feel that feedback on its many problems needs to be given ASAP, while changes and fixes are not yet hardened into stone. The compact sheet is better than the beta version, but still needs a lot of design work to be made readable. I plan on running a hybrid game with the 2014 as the main sheet, and the 2024 reserved for PCs. ... in a couple of months. There are too many issues right now.
Ok - so I now have four really upset players who were looking forward to playing 2024 rules with the new sheet. It would be useful to know how long the delay is likely to be. Days? Weeks? Months?
I'm having an issue sharing the new rules with my players. Every time I click on share my compendium with players it doesn't seem to work. Then I go back in and it's flipped back to No. And i went down to the bottom and saved it. Does anyone know what might be happening?
Personally would love the ability to drag and drop 2024 compendium entries into the 2014 sheet for those of us who prefer the 2014 sheet. Things like the updated spells and feats at least would be helpful. I understand building characters are tricky, but the same way I can just pull swashbuckler features from Xanathars onto a 2014 sheet, I'd like the ability to do the same with the 2024 new Cunning Strikes feature onto my 2014 sheet for example.
This is stuff that should have been communicated ahead of time, the fact that you acted like this was a full release only to say that its now not a full release is absolutely unacceptable, also to say that the sheet is finished but the builder is not and that the level up system is coming soon, is like selling someone a sword that you said was finished but then when you delivered it, all the person got was a dull, unsharpened metal blade with no handle Bianca said: If you want to use the 2024 rules, including the character builder, drag & drop, and skills such as weapon mastery, you have to use the new sheet to play. I just feel that the level-up feature should be a no-go decision in their business table. I don't know what the reasoning was behind allowing this release without it, just because this is the most important feature that is missing right now if you want to swap from DND Beyond to Roll20, which a lot of people are deciding to do with the new compendium and books, myself included. Of course, us DMs and veteran players can use the sheet and manually level up, but most players who use DND Beyond for character building and sheet are not used to going into the books to find the information on what they need to adjust in the sheet to level up. The fact that we don't know when to expect it is the worst. If it was next week, it would be pretty acceptable, but if it's next month or even later this year, then it's unrealistic to expect that people won't level up in this time. My party was anxious to create their PCs in the 2024 sheet as we've been having a lot of issues with the Beyond20 extension and wanted to stop paying for the Beyond subscription and start paying for Roll20. But now I've only recommended it for those who are willing to recreate the character every level up or who can manually level up.
Do the new character sheets support compendium sharing? I have the new players handbook, but my players can't see those options in the character generation.

I'm trying to play Eve of Ruin on the classic Roll20 (not "jumpgate"), but using the new 2024 character sheet. When I try to open a named monster from that module, a character creation prompt opens instead of the monster's sheet. Is there a trick to get it to open? If not, do I have to switch to Jumpgate so that I can turn on both the 2014 and 2024 character sheets? UPDATE: Seeing various scattered posts in forums and on Reddit of people having the exact same problem, I made a copy of the game but chose Jumpgate and turned both sheets on. Still had the same problem. I started a fresh game with the same module, chose Jumpgate, got a pop up saying I needed both sheet styles so they were both automatically turned on, and everything works. My original game (and Jumpgate copy) - which I'd added things to - does not work. So it looks like I need to: Re-do all of the work I did to add to the game with a fresh "jumpgate" version (I didnt' choose this b/c "beta" means not done yet and I wanted something reliable). I've been really happy with Roll20 for years and that ended today. This is really half-baked and not ready for actual use.

Has anyone figured out how to "prepare" spells on a sheet? My druid player made their character but there isnt an obvios way to display prepared spells. Nevermind, found it under "manage" in the spells tab :)
We are getting absolutely no genuine answers here. We deserve to know when we can use the product we paid for. We are forced to use a broken character sheet to even access the content. The least you could do is tell us, when exactly you aim to have this fixed.

Hey folks, wanted to update here (and will edit my post shortly) -- the automated level up in the character builder will be available in early October.
So based off of Roll20's History with releases and updates, We can expect it to truly be out in a month and a half. or so. Thank you for giving us an actual timeline on the builder, but when can we use the sheet and have it not be broken. Even if we can manually drag things out that would work. Or better yet use the 2014 sheet that is already functional.
Hunter, can you let me know what's broken on the sheet for you? You can also send feedback directly to the team.
I've entered about a dozen bugs for the actual sheet alread, not even considering the builder, and I have only looked at arch fey warlock at 1st - 3rd level. This sheet may be more visually appealing (i.e. it looks more like a DndBeyond character sheet), but it is absolutely NOT better than the classic roll20 sheet. Please just give us the new content in the old character sheet.
I realize not all functionality is available yet, but will there be an option in the future to drag 2024 compendium items like abilities and features onto 2014 style character sheets? I love the new D&D material, but the new character sheet isn't something I want to have to use, or force my players into, this is why we use Roll20 instead of D&D Beyond in the first place!
Spell DC's are not correct and cannot be edited You cannot sort spells alphabetically Spells also do not add ability modifiers, such as when you heal as a cleric the wisdom modifier will not be added None of the above can be edited to work either Also we have had issues with not being able to delete things from the sheet once it has been added.

Is anybody else fighting with unblocking the right-side menu when a character sheet is up? It is hard to select things and click and drag them when you can't get to them. Please tell me I'm missing something. I've tried the separate window view and compact mode. Still an issue. Cannot resize the character sheet from the sides to get it out of the way. If I use a separate window option, you can't click and drag to it. There is not even a way to quickly add things with a search. Please tell me I'm missing something obvious. *Converted to Jumpgate, and I can get the sheet to pan down out of the blocking position. ** I just dumped Jumpgate. For some reason, the starting board positioning isn't saved, so I have to resize it every time it loads.
Going to need that migration tool asap, please.
I can't see the character sheet at all. I created a first character and opened it up and where there is supposed to be a character sheet, there was a greyed out cool image with dragon heads... but no fields or anything. I was a kickstarter backer of Roll20 and having been playing D&D for 35 years. I have thousands of characters on Roll20. And yes, I do have D&D 5e (2024) Sheet by Roll20 selected for this R20 game. Anybody got any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Is it just not loading? If **I** can't figure this out, there is a huge problem.
