5E Ravenloft Campaign Focusing On Role Playing

Just looking for some interest in a Ravenloft Campaign where the characters aren't, "my character is so cool, he's not afraid of anything, he got lots of hit points and a big sword, he's real strong, he's just a great hero", but where they actually have to interact with the world and each other using wits and brains as well as braun. When you arrive in the land of the mists you arrive with whatever you had with you, if you were sleeping in bed you'd arrive in Ravenloft in your night clothes and nothing else! I had tried this concept once before but most of the Players just wanted to kill stuff and increase their Character Numbers, as in they looked at their PCs as a set of numbers with the thought that I need to get my numbers higher. This will not be for players who think Combat first, it is for players who love to role play through tough situations where fighting isn't even an option. Where staying in character is worth more than critical hitting.. If this campaign Materializes it will Play EVERY OTHER WEEK, the Day of the Week will be either Thursday or Sunday and the starting time will be either 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM CST... It will be an all Human campaign and will use a standard array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 , 08, there will be No Variant so the actual array will become 16, 15, 14, 13, 11, 9. Player backgrounds will be developed as the game progresses... To run this campaign there must be at least 4 players and no more than 7 players... As stated, this will not be for everyone, but for those who enjoy this genre this can be very good, much of the success for this will come from the players... I'd be interested in playing a Neutral Cleric of Knowledge in Ravenloft. From my understanding of Ravenloft, the Divine powers are actually cut off from the Demiplane of Dread, and instead out of amusement the Dark Powers actually grant divine spells to see how the clerics will act without letting them have any real connection or response to their divinity. It would be fun to roleplay out not trusting my divine connection anymore.

I'd love to join your campaign and sundays or thursdays are good with me so long as we start at 8pm CST I've got a Chaotic good warlock bound to the chained god of the old ones, and a Chaotic neutural Druid who swaps between playing wild shape melee and long range casting.

I appreciate all the responses but don't discuss character ideas as you might find that they will not work in this world. The Ravenloft world we will be using does not exactly fit many character concepts, for instance there are only two Godly forces, Good and Evil, to put it plainer, There is God and the Devil, they are behind everything, but in Ravenloft the Devil or Evil side has the upper hand. A Warlock character would not be a really good choice because it would be neutered from the get go. Since the Campaign will focus largely on Role Playing, classes that have ties to outer worldly phenomena like a Sorcerer's tie to Dragons simply wouldn't exist. Potential players should focus more on how their character class will interact with the world. This is easy for Paladins and Clerics, Rogues and Bards will fit in fine as in many cases they are neutral in general, Wizards still draw their power from an internal force tied to their arcane field in other wards their magic will work fine in Ravenloft, but their power is still being drawn from the dark side even if they themselves are good aligned characters. Good Class Choices: Bard Cleric (the good deity is most closely associated with a Christian model) Fighter Paladin (the good deity is most closely associated with a Christian model) Ranger (nature has taken a very twisted turn in Ravenloft) Rogue Wizard (some spells may require spell components that are different and not readily available, these must be found in game) Bad Class Choices: Barbarian Druid Monk Sorcerer Warlock Remember this an all human campaign... Your goals are going to be generally tied to staying alive, remaining sane, and perhaps getting out of Ravenloft and back to normality. This may discourage some of you but it is better you know this now before committing to the Campaign... This has the potential to be a very good campaign... -Ajax

Hi Ajax, You seem to be stuck with me on Thursdays! I have a good RP idea for a human Paladin that would be very fun to play in Ravenloft I am thinking. The guy I am imagining fighting undead, and running away from undead, would be really entertaining. I cannot do Sundays, so don't include me if you are going with Sunday. But if you are going with Thursday, please invite me.

Hello there, names Bryan, i'm 21, and have 5 years experience playing dnd. ranging from 3.5-5e (i think ive played a dnd session twice a week for the last 2 years!). i've also tried my hand at call of Cthulhu and shadowrun. my schedule is very lax, and i can make almost any day and time, i have access to all the books, and a mic, and camera if need be. i would be very interested, no matter what day. i just dont like groups that are to bigg. i love the high roleplay focus, the all human team is a bit interesting but im willing to see how it goes, and would be intrested in many roles such as ranger, fighter, or bard. so whatever is missing from the group i have no problem doing.

I love playing the Lore Master Type or the one who "Knows what should be not known" and is a bit mentally unstuck because of it. That could be a cleric or could be many things.
