Realms of Northland - Pathfinder E6, West Marches-style sandbox campaign

The Premise A new land ha been discovered, North of the established kingdom. Only an outpost has so far been built. Rumors and Tales has spread, that the new land is rich and valuable for those who dare to brave the wilderness. The adventurers who have made the journey so far now sit in the Smashed Shield inn, planning their next expedition into the unknown. Playing The campaign will be run West Marches style. You can read about it here: <a href="http://arsludi.lamemage.com/index.php/78/grand-experiments-west-marches/" rel="nofollow">http://arsludi.lamemage.com/index.php/78/grand-experiments-west-marches/</a> Basically it means that there will be a pool of players (max 20), who will communicate with each other and plan where they want to go and when they can play. There will be no fixed time every week in wich play happens. The players have to organize and tell the GM (me) when they can play. Exploring Northland is not for the faint of heart. The wilderness is dangerous, the caverns and lairs of beasts even more so. Characters can perish, and thoughtlessness will most likely have dire consequences. You have been warned. Dice will be rolled in the open. Fudging will not happen ;) The Rules We will use the Pathfinder ruleset from Paizo. The SRD can be found here: <a href="http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/" rel="nofollow">http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/</a> A variant called E6 will be used. It means that the characters advance normally until level 6. From then on, they earn a new feat for every 6000 exp they get. This makes the disparity between characters lighter, since the game changes drastically around level 10. Apart from that anything on the prd goes except Gunslingers and guns. I also reserve the right to add houserules later on if it proves to be nessecary. Characters will be generated using 15 point buy. There is a point buy calculator here: <a href="http://tools.digitalightbulb.com/pbcalc.html" rel="nofollow">http://tools.digitalightbulb.com/pbcalc.html</a> The players are encouraged to write down what they find in the wilderness, since noone has ever been there before. It will also help the other players greatly to know that the Goblin Caves are more dangerous than the rest of the woods. I have made an Obsidian Portal page to facilitate this. It is still under construction <a href="http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/realms-of-northland" rel="nofollow">http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/realms-of-northland</a>
Sounds interesting, I have a little knowledge of pathfinder (played a few times). But i have never used Roll20 before. I'm also available most weeknights (except wednesday) (timezone is UTC-4). Could you tell me what the average session length would be?
Thanks for the PM. As I said earlier in the other thread I would love to give it a try. Point buy seems reasonable, if not some players would surely have quite high stats. In some cases this might have been hones dice rolling but in others it might as well been the player just giving himself high atributes. Most of the time I am free, the next couple of weeks nearly everyday if I know in advance. The variant seems reasonable enough, especially with a high player pool. My timezone is as I said earlier GMT+2
@Brian Being new is no problem at all. My timezone is UTC+1 (+2 now, during summer), as i live in denmark. I aim for each session being 4-5 hours long. In order for the players to plan anything, we need some sort of communications platform. I would personally prefer facebook, if everyone is okay with that, since it's easy to use. I will also have a map up on obsidian portal within a few days, with a few starter locations ^^ Would everyone be okay with using Facebook?
I dont use facebook or any other social media plattform, but wouldnt Google+ be better suited? Many people have audio and or video problems with tokbox so we could integrate it in Google+ to prevent this. A length of 4-5 hours is ok with me. Nice idea with obsidian portal, never heard of the site but what I've seen thus far seems nice. Btw. I like your writing style :D
Obsidian Portal has a forum feature, wich i think we can use. If that is a go, i think it would be ideal. Everything in one place, after all. Oh, it might be a good idea to say this now. I don't own a headset, so i will be using only text in Roll20 until i get one.
Also, Post an email adress, so i can invite you to the campaign on ObsidianPortal. That would be splendid ^^
When will you get a one? Would certainly be easier to talk to each other especially for you, since you'll have to describe a whole lot. You have a PM
I'm not sure if 4-5 hour sessions would work for me (work schedule and time diff'). It would depend on when we started in the day. I'll keep an eye on this though.
@Brian The whole idea is that the players arrange the sessions whenever they can play. It's not a requirement that you play every session. For Example: Brian and Henning want to go to the Cliffside Caverns in search of adventure. They talk to John and Maggie, and the four of them decide than 16:00 hours UTC+1 would be a good time to play next friday. They tell the GM (me), who says yay or nay. I am not planning anything other than the places you can explore, the arranging of sessions are up to the players
@henning I aim at buying a set on my next payday in two weeks. I agree that voice is almost a nessecity, especially since i already type a lot at my job Also, the forum at ObsidianPortal is a no-go. It is only available for Ascended members. I might cough up the money in the near future, but not until i know the program better.
I would also be interested in this. I'm new to roll20 but it does seem to be quite simple to use. I'm at UTC+2 (+3 in summer) and I'm able to play a few nights a week.
@Janne Cool! Send me a PM with your E-mail, and i'll have an invite to the Obsidian Portal page your way :D
I have been thinking a bit. How would everyone be with using the Private Message system in Obsidian Portal to communicate? I currently cannot afford an Ascendant membership, and thus i cannot unlock the forums.
Thats fine with me, another idea would be to use the wiki to make a schedule where everyone can just edit when they have time. If a group of eneough players comes together on one day, a quick pm to you and everything would be fine. Thats just an idea that I had
Welp, you've got me at the very least.
@Wadledo Great! Send me a PM with your e-mail, and i send you an invitation to the Campaign Site. As for everyone, feel free to create your characters. Guidelines are on the wiki, if there's questions feel free to ask
I am interested in this, but I am new to Pathfinder and especially new to online play. GMT -8. While I'm usually up late nights, I can actually wake up at a decent hour to play if need be.
@johnny Hmm. Playing at european time wich we do means getting up ass-early in the morning for you. I would not do it ;P If that is not a problem, however, send me a PM with your email, and i will have an invite sent your way
I'll can add a PC to the pool and play if I get a chance, sounds good.
how do you join?
This sounds really interesting, but I'm in EST (GMT-4) and don't use Facebook. :(
Did this ever get off the ground? It sounds really interesting.
