Good afternoon all, Copy of my thread in Pro forums, it fits better here of course (-thanks Pat). I have seen a few threads with marketplace enhancement ideas out there, but wanted to add specific ideas that I've been seeing and talking about to others. First
off let me begin by saying I'm a big fan of this community and although
I have not been a member for very long, I have however anchored myself
quite well already with games and people. My post today is about
the Marketplace - a great place for extra props, sets and token to add
flavour to our campaigns and adventures. I've already supported a couple
artists with a few purchases and I must say I'm impressed with some of
the quality I see in most sets. This brings me to some problems and
ideas to help revolve them (my: "if you bring a problem, bring a
solution" approach). 1. Set feedback and/or rating (based on certain criteria) .
I think there should be a way to give direct feedback view-able by all
so as to ensure that quality gets better and better among artists. It
holds them accountable for the consistency of their work and let's us
the paying folk enjoy quick exchanges on products. It's also about
Roll20's reputation as it holds the market for these and bad rep because
of some sets might mean less sales. 2. More description for sets and tiles .
This seems to be an issue with others I've spoken to who use purchased
sets as well. There is too little control or visibility on what's
available and finding, as an example, sets that grid-snap for a quick
combat scene setup is sometimes difficult at best. There is too little
info on sets or how to use some of them properly. A paragraph of detail
and a pictures or two is not enough to make an informed purchase
decision. Too many pieces, too little pieces, scaling to grid issues,
etc. Could there not be a template info file required for sets that
detail pieces and scaling and how they fit with one another? Perhaps
included in the purchase? Perhaps actually visible by all who view the
set for purchase? I find that just seeing the pieces contained is too
little info sometimes (tokens being an exception due to their nature of
course). 3. Better categorizing options . With
the new site, there are advanced search option available where you can
fill in what you are looking for but there could be an over-arching
system to ease the browsing process. I simply feel that the ability to
browse categories and sets is sometimes easier than thinking exactly
about what I want and then inputting it manually to look it up (an
Amazon type of browse and categorize system?). 4. Wishlisting . Sets. Self-explanatory. Brought up before so I removed my descriptor. 5. Gifting Sets to GMs . Self-explanatory. Brought up before so I removed my descriptor. Fits with wishlists as well. Anyways, these are
just a couple of ideas I have. I've read some posts about others talk
about this as well and thought I'd voice my ideas directly on this Pro
side of the community and see what you guys think. Not meant as a
negative critique at all but simply the point of view of someone who
supports artists and buys from Roll20 and ultimately supports the
community and its development. Thanks for taking the time to read
my post and please feel free to contact me devs. I'd love to share
ideas (and perhaps do my part?) about helping improve user experience
with this part of this growing community! :) I support artists! Jay
