A problem with Homebrew Skills

Hey Guys, i will go straight to the point with this one. I am making a science fiction homebrew and i got a little problem with my skills, as i want it to be more than just a combat game. So what i define as a skills is any ability used mostly outside of combat (for combat you have weapon proficencies and combat attributes) so stuff like first aid and engeneering. I am deliberately vague as i only want general advise and suggestions and nothing precise. Thank you for reading this and if you have any idea feel free to write it down.
