Coming along after Azur (Rex) and Chakavi (Erik) , the newest 2 PC's now introduced and incorporated are Valkenhaym (Cat) and Kricket (Bonez) . The party (including the secondary session day with Baradin the Cavalier) has vanquished the Greater Feyr from the sewers of Portlandio. Some assassins mugged the party in the Koryon Military's residential manor district. The assassins included bullywugs and humans, who appeared to be General Che Won's loyal (but illegal) employees, outside the formal military ranks. Che Won's power is in decline locally, as Yi Ko has risen in authority. Next Session and moving forward in May - a coronation festival for Portlandio Province, then Finding Ota Sura: Go to the coronation festival featuring General Yi Ko declaring a new governmental authority for "Portlandio Province", appointing Horukh 2.0 to an executive noble Margrave title. Go to find Ota Sura next, 80 miles traveling on a journey to the Northeast, next -- After playing the coronation festival scenario in-town, and wrapping up any loose-ends, investigations or equipping while in your base town. What's the latest with those 3 Koryon Military Generals anyway? Yi Bang (some PC's claim that he is some sort of "Imperial Dragon"; the Military reports that Yi Bang is far to the North leading Koryon troops in the Orc Wars), Yi Ko (Won the favor of the townsfolk through charitable works, he now controls authority on the local peninsula and is forming a new government region called Portlandio Province, to which he plans to appoint a key PC: Horukh the bird-man priest, under the noble/executive office title of Margrave ), Che Won (has backup Bullywug army on the side, and Assassins on the loose in Portlandio; and is alternately suspicious or trusting of his 2 rival generals, Che Won's honor and authority within the town has recently declined with the rise of Yi Ko's authority). And don't forget about Lord Harlepen, he seems to be a jerky knight, who even has a Black Knight working for him as an enforcer. Lord H boarded up his keep in Portlandio and went away "to fight again in the Orc Wars". Ota Sura might know more about Lord Harlepen or his current location. Investigate, equip, RP to finish Portlandio for this visit in your recurring base town. Prepare now to go on-the-road towards Ota Sura's adventures in the upcoming game sessions! Swargen is questing to recover Thor / Norse artifacts that may have been unearthed months ago in Portlandio's typhoon and spirited-away to the Orc City beyond the Orc Front, where they would become dangerous to the world if they fall into the wrong hands of someone who knows how to use the power. Sigma the Minotaur Ranger is nicknamed The Solution by Ota Sura in his younger days, and now she beckons and calls to him through the celestial spheres, catching his ears occasionally in thoughts or the wind. You all hear that Ota Sura is an awesome Half-Elf Aunty Mayor wizard elder intellectual and defender of the folk who helps the Elvish Vanguard to push back the Orcs from the North, That General Yi Bang is leading troops who are helping to hold back the Orc Front, That Lord Harlepen personally returned as a veteran knight to the Orc Wars, And that some Orcs have been able to move beyond the Front and got ever-closer to Portlandio peninsula (with help from Lord Harlepen's underlings, you discovered evidence; and Yi Ko trying to pin it all on Yi Bang or on Furnace the Fire Drake). Individual PC's have several more connections, motives and hooks for going to help Ota Sura, or to ask for her advice and knowledge. Let's coalesce all your interests towards Ota Sura, voice the motivation in-game and start playing this adventure next! Post any ideas & game discussion here, worldbuilding, book-keeping, Q&A, + journals.

Torvald definitely wants to see Ota-Sura; as she provided him assistance when he was lost... And dwarves always repay their debts. Killing hordes of orcs is an added benefit! Baradin knows the trip to see Ota-Sura is a link to a bigger quest. One with great enemies to be defeated. He also has a grudge towards Lord Harlepen; whose violated his knightly oath. Plus he's employing a black knight and several "unsavory" characters to do his dirty work. Both want to see Horukh. But for different reasons. Torvald because he's a friend & comrade in arms. Baradin because he's an important member of the nobility and ruling class.
Kricket would be interested in seeing how far he could push Ota-Sura. Although she possesses power and authority, she sounds like a victim of a soft heart. Brace yourself for reverse physiology as he attempts to learn from her without swallowing his pride. Kricket is disappointed to see Horukh become a potential assassination target, but he'll make the most of the situation. Swargen's and Sigma's ambitions sound like boasts and death wishes to a lowly kobold, but their respective stories would be ground shaking if they succeed. Maybe Kricket could sell tells of their deeds to a bard...
As always, Valkenhayn will attempt to move on, and challenge himself intellectually and gain more power as a wizard. Maybe this Ota-Sura can help him with this. Valkenhayn has heard that this Horukh is in position to take power over people. He wants to see this ceremony for himself, because it disgusts him. Valkenhayn feels he owes this party a debt for giving him work while traveling, and providing him the means to further his intellect by giving him fun and interesting challenges, for that he will follow for now.

Excerpt from Kricket's Book of Manly Experiences. Valco’s gone and done it again. Walked into a bar, asked for work, and promptly got “hired” by the local thugs. Some minotaur by the name of Sigma was leading them. I’d have turned down his invitation to comb the sewers, but his drake, Furnace, made it perfectly clear that if I didn’t play along that I’d be he’s lunch. The others aren’t much better. There was a high born elf who couldn’t tell the difference between a mud pie and a cow pie. There was also a couple of strong humans who were going on about strength and honor. I’ve had worst company, but I was hoping to start out better than this. Valco seems to like them well enough. The sewers were a bust. Went in there, killed some trolls, and got out the moment that they forgot about me. I swear I felt the walls closing behind me as I ran for the entrance. Valco made it back in one piece, and the others managed to survive. Gods, I need to find a way to get rid of them. Valco and I got into an argument, again. It drives me crazy how he’s so cock sure about himself. So what if he can master a spell book on the first read, or figure out ways on how to improve spells? He still uses that brain of his like a hammer, blow his way through things. The poor sod doesn’t understand what it’s like to struggle to learn something, or to make due with less than you need. I’m worried about what’ll happen when his luck finally runs out. I guess that’s part of why I follow him around. He’ll pick me up when I fall, and I’ll be there to save him when he trips up. The next several days sped by. Furnace has gotten quite good at sniffing me out and dragging me back to Sigma. Valco’s gotten a crush on the elf, and I think he’s a bit taken with the others. Sigma told us that we were going dragon hunting with him, but I was able to talk him into buying us food and giving us some pocket change. Greedy cow. Traveling to the next town wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. Sigma’s hand signal lessons were… bearable, but I’d like to show him some signals of my own. The other’s had the wits to keep to keep me out of their grumbling small talk. Valco’s rather taken with the bracers Sigma bribed him with. I’ll admit that they’re shiny, and the workmanship isn’t half bad, but I’m surprised that he let himself be bought for so little. Go figure, ten minutes after stepping into town, the local crime lord sent some of his goons to harass us. A couple of harsh words and a well-placed spell was enough to make then run with their tails between their legs. Sniveling cowards didn’t even know how to set a proper ambush. Sigma beat one of the toad men into submission and forced him to shows us around the town. In the end we grew tired of the game and tossed him over his boss’s wall. I hope that they learned their lesson, but keeping a knife under my pillow just in case.
Valkenhayn's next Intelligent reflection: This week has been interesting. First thing was first, I had an argument with Kricket over the sewer incident. When I called him out for running away he got very angry with me. We had an argument over what intelligence was (and of course my large amount of it). He said I was too much using my Intelligence like a hammer. I explained I use my intelligence in ALL ways. Sometimes my intelligence has to have a bit of force behind it, but sometimes my intelligence also needs to be used more subtly. One thing I like about Kricket though, and this argument reminded me of it, is that for a Kobold he's very tenacious. Sure, he's a bit easy to scare and selfish, and not nearly as intelligent as I am. But, for a Kobold he's intelligent, and he's also set on his ways in a positive way as well. His nature is that of someone who ultimately has himself in mind, but also I think his friends as well. It's just hard figuring out if he's your friend. I think I'm his friend, but the others? I do not know. The rest of the week has also been interesting too. Sigma showed me some new things to learn and commit to memory. He talked about hand signals and how it would help Kricket and I work together with the group better. Sure, I like learning new things. They also told us we were going dragon hunting? Pretty cool, right? Dangerous? Sure. But another challenge for my intellect. How will I bring down a dragon? Kricket brought up an interesting point of payment, after all, we were here for work. Not only did the minotaur give me payment, he offered me a side job of writing down his words, which is easy. He also bought me these new bracers, which are nice and fun. Oh, speaking of which, while we were out doing that we were attacked. These general people I've heard about seem to be rearing their ugly heads and me being associated with this group seems to get me on their notice. I don't think the frog liked it when I gave him the finger. Still, this is worrisome. I hear that these generals are about to gain more power here. I wonder how people will react....I have a few opinions on it and I've never even seen these generals. I hope I do, I have a few choice words for them.
Love the journals, guys! I want to add some commentary here before H 2.0 appears though. His reintroduction will be orchestrated for effect by the people/creatures that transformed him, and this is one of those moments where it's better to let the drama play out, because acting overtly right now will get someone killed, by assassination or crowd-lynching. And, much as it hurts to say it, H 2.0 really IS Portlandio's best chance right now despite the oppression he's going to instill while he's puppeted. Fortunately for the Challengers old and new, Horukh is puppeting right back, yet the enemy is utterly unaware of it. Horukh will get time alone with the Challengers, and he'll speak in a lot of code and inference. And he'll be brilliant but quite mad, and unaccountably violent at times, stabby with the armored beak and stuff. The Challengers will go on missions, quests, and searches that will lead to a release of H 2.0 from insanity, and then, well, what can I say but, just wait til HORUS finds out what happened. There will be EPIC VENGEANCE. Horus is a deity of "I'm not gonna just smash you I'm gonna make sure this can never happen again," and gets enraged. In fact, it may happen before Horukh even returns to being an adventurer PC, freeing him up to roam again, since H 2.0 has been HIDDEN from even the sight of gods---and he's a Kemetic Priest. So anyway, Horukh will have Plot Armor for a little while, while he transitions to being a Player Character again and gets pulled back to being his old self by his friends. He really was lovable and likable, vulnerable and hopeful, and a strong military and civilian leader. Playing him now is going to be a BIG challenge for me, because he's going to be a serious tool for a while. A very competent tool, but one who uses kindness as a hammer and force to heal. (I won't like playing him much for a while, but, this is the storyline and I need the acting practice, yknow?) :)
SOON....

Good job on the Journals and adventure-talk, group. DM has had a busy week, and just finished reading everything now (1 hour before game time). Cat and Bonez , I noticed characterization in your Journals, and I like that. Bringing out the personalities of your the PC's. Larry , good thinking too. Don't worry mate. It will all play along as we go. Even as DM, I personally don't know how it will go down! I have ideas and outline, but prepared to improvise if the situation changes according to PC's. Valkenhaym has said they will have words for the Generals, I don't think they will attempt something as game-changing as an assassination of Horukh or Generals by-fireball in public. If something unforeseeable happens, we'll just have to figure it out and play it out together! Journal window remains open. I'll come back to close this window after the game starts today, and open a new window for this week's journals. Count-down to Game Time... in 1 hour!
STAND BY FOR ACTION! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E06cNv55jTs Anything could happen in the next half hour!

Pivotal session: Horukh 2.0 emerged, appointed Margrave of Portlandio Province Gold-DM (GM): It was a unique different kind of session, a lot of Plot, a fair amount of RP, some tension and darkness Almost all RP, a big scenario a big plot & homebrew world development and a huge character-development for Horukh one of the longest-running PC's in the campaign, from the original Challengers Of Destiny. Kricket investigated around the town, gathering information from ally/adversary Mort The Raven (Gnome diplomat NPC) and other local sources. Coronation Ceremony, Yi Ko's announcement of Governmental Authority for formation of Portlandio Province introducing Margrave Horukh 2.0 The Ashen almost everyone was there 500 townsfolk Most known NPC's the hill giant ally your 5 pixie friends Che Won Yi Ko (pictured at right) ----> Horukh 2.0 emerged!! Wait for Larry's posts to see the picture and hear more about the changes to Horukh in-game. A huge dragon showed up!! Who is the dragon? Horukh called it by its name, but spoken in draconic. Horukh later tells you this dragon is Yi Bang . Valkenhayn -Grayson(Cat): it's a real dragon too Gold-DM (GM): Horukh 2.0 talked to the Dragon!! Airen fell off the bleachers backwards when the Dragon flew overhead and surprised everyone. Valkenhayn levitated and gave an opposition speech to the crowd, fomenting a rebel revolt. The soldiers from the nearby swamp-town of Laffite said "That is one cool cat! We agree! Let's rebel! We don't need a provincial government authority impeding our lives and freedom." Swargen stopped 4 thug criminals who were working the crowd at the event, 3 with Hold Person spell. Gold-DM (GM): Horukh 2.0 eventually returned, with bodyguards, to The Naughty Nymph (new name of the party's Inn) Cylara , Swargen , and Valkenhayn used various techniques and spells to find out more about Horukh 2.0 and what he has endured, and what the party's upcoming mission(s) might involve if they want to help Horukh , Ota Sura, Thor, Egyptian Gods, and the good populations of the frontier Canadian continent. A certain demon's name was spoken while Swargen and Horukh were within a Withdraw spell. Outside thunder rolled and clashed, a storm hit, and hard rain began to fall. Watch for Larry's postings from Horukh 2.0 and the other PC journals, or ask next session in-game, to learn more about their findings as we continue this branch of character development. And now we get ready for the Fun Part the part we've all been waiting for (maybe) Going to Ota Sura's over the next upcoming sessions starting next session! Because that is going to be another twist. A Twist of fun and different kinds of roleplaying, new gameplay modes that we have not done before. Scheduling Notes (I will crosspost this info in the Scheduling thread) May 17 -- session to cancel / move. May 12 and May 19 -- fill-in sessions on Thursdays, optional, for those who can make it May 24 --- Embark on the Ota Sura adventure!! Gold-DM (GM) Can't Wait Gold-DM (GM): Mark your Calendars Closing Window for Journals of May 3, Opening Window for journals of May 10 session of today. Window still open technically for journals of May 5. Thanks Players! See you either This Thursday, or Next Thursday, or on Tuesday May 24 for the next Main Session starting on the adventure to meet Ota Sura.
The Transcript of Horukh The Ashen's First Speech as Margrave of Portlandio Province Portlandians and visitors, It is my imperative duty to be your Margrave. I have returned after being lost to you at the time I was needed most, taken away and embattled with the forces of evil. This time was long and perilous, and has left me changed, but triumphant. By appearances, I am not now as you knew me before, but I am as true to Portlandio’s interests as always. Listen now to these declarations. Portlandio is in an uniquely strategic position. Yes, invaders covet the city. Actions to weaken Portlandio and take it as a prize are underway; failing its capture, the enemy intends Portlandio’s destruction. Abandonment of this city would be a grave mistake, and so our highest priority is in making it too painful to grasp. The city proper will be divided into 38 districts on land, and 16 on the coast and beneath the water. Outside the city, 108 districts will be declared. Each district will be responsible for its own defenses. Each district will only share knowledge of its own defenses with those districts touching their own. These defenses must not interfere with or endanger the citizenry or daily life of this city. These defenses must be triply-inspected by professional builders, who answer to the council member who is lord of that district. In addition, the city will establish main walls, gates, seaforts and towers. The walls are no-pass zones and will be heavily trapped on either side, and underneath. Each district will support themselves, and their militia, or face penalties. Each district will have a representative for every 200 citizens. These representatives present their pleas and issues to an assigned council member. All citizens of Honorable or higher rank must accept the residence of officers of Portlandio’s defenses within their home, providing at least one private room, and accomodations for the officer’s staff. In return all of Portlandio’s officers are to maintain a strict discipline of being cordial and respectful of Honorable citizens’ wishes. Every unemployed ablebodied citizen will report to a work camp, where they will be clothed, housed and fed, in return for labor in improving the city. This program can be left if a better offer is found by the citizen and a buyout of 80 gold pieces is paid to replace them administratively. The City Guard will be expanded, better equipped, and more formally trained. No Guard will be uneducated in the way of The Law. No Guard will be above The Law. No Guard’s Commander will be above abiding by The Law. Specialized Guards will operate in secret, without uniform, to police the Guard themselves and operate against anti-Portlandian interests. Portlandio’s Heroes, the Challengers of Destiny, are appointed as Special Operatives of the Crown, and are exempt from common law and are entitled to free passage of all the Province. These declarations are open to petition for three days, then will become Portlandian Law. Be strong, be vigilant, be resourceful, behave. That is all.

Session 3 This entry is a mixture of Kobold and Common, alternating between the two as to disguise what is written. I've a bone to pick with a Gnome, Mort The Raven. I could kill him, but I'd rather let him live knowing that he was out done by a lowly kobold. Let he suffer and drown in his regret. He talks with fancy words, try to convince me that he's here to help, but between his silly perfumes and his spotlessly white gloves, its clear that he only sees the folk around him as a stepping block. I've spoke with that gnome here and then, but he still doesn't realize how deep my resentment goes. Stupid gnome doesn't suspect a thing. Well at least he starting to understand that this world doesn't need him, and if he were to die that the town would continue on much the same. Its priceless to hear the fear in his words, to see his mad scramble to not be the one caught under foot. I've offered him a safety line with a committee, a glimmer of a hope. I can't wait until its all he has left, and I cut the rope. The look on his face as he falls below the commons that he's looked down will be priceless. To gain someone's faith, you must first prove to them that you could betray them, but chose not to. That imaginary safety net is the most dangerous thing in the world. Its fine to trust those around you, so long as you're sure that they're the one's who'll take the fall. I wounder if he has children, a daughter, a wife perhaps. So many ways to hurt him and teach him just how vulnerable life is. If only Kurtulmak's afterlife wasn't a damn mine. Sigma's turned out to be more... honorable then I expected. Stupid, stubborn, and simple, but loyal to those he labels as friends. Maybe Valkenhayn had good instincts seeking work under this brute. The food's been good, and the company's been tolerable. The elf still has a stick up her ass, but I've no obligation to change that. Maybe I'll be able to find ways to taunt that gnome. They do share parts of the same personality. Swargan turned out much more interesting that I judge him to be. Calling on Thor and calling down lightning was a quick way to win my respect, and he had the incentive to give me a holy symbol of Thor before the demonstration. Cocky human, but I can't say that he was wrong. The strength of his god was impressive, but I wounder how to leach away the divine power. From what I know, barbarian deities aren't fond of weak priests. Perhaps I'll be able to draw from both Thor and Zeus to create my own divine lightning. This bears looking into. There was a large fair today, and I managed to barter for a young horned lizard. That fool merchant has no idea want he just parted with. He may be small now, but his power is formidable. I heard tales that they use blood magic to escape from predators. I can't wait to study him further. For now, I will give him the fearsome name of Acro, meaning Bitter wind. The fair ended with a great gathering and speech. What was said didn't impact me, but I fear what martial law will do to this city. When there's an army outside the door step, the people will be glad for the soldiers in their homes, but when will they leave? Who will pay for the damage these short lived roughens will cause, and what will the generals do when the town's daughters are raped? This doesn't bode well for the future, but desperate times call for extreme measures. I suppose I could always flee town if the conflict grows to great. On a side note, being a friend of Sigma proved to be quite handy. Being exempt from the common law opens up several opportunities. Maybe there's gold to be made, and knowledge to be gained. All that will disappear like smoke if Sigma is killed on that dragon quest. Looks like I have another fool to keep out of harms way.

Valkenhayn reveals his Anarchist views Today had been quite interesting indeed. This bird friend of my cohorts is intense, and I don't think it is of his own doing. I will attempt to hunt down the source of this, but something is seriously fucked up here, both with this bird, and with this whole damn city. However, luckily it seems smarter than I had given it credit. Today there had been a speech, a bad speech. One about how the people should give themselves up to a new government power. There was no overt cheering, but I was disappointed with the lack of booing. I did what I had to do, and things from there didn't add up. I had gone up there to steal the stage, and tell the people to not accept what they had just heard. I had expected resistance to have to get through the guards to get up. ...I didn't. It wasn't my sneaking skills, either.....The future dictator LET me get up and speak. It had thrown me so much for a loop. I expected my words would have had to be heated. Instead...I had a chance to speak civilly. Still, I think my words got out to the public...I just hope they sink in. I hate government. Government is the ultimate of forced collectives. They force you to subject yourselves to their "laws" (read: opinions with a sword to your neck), then steal your hard earned gold, and in THIS case, steal even pieces of your own home? While they, in return, do nothing for you. It made me sick. Something is up with the bird man, I was in his mind, I saw it before I even went in his mind. Hell, I even FELT it. He was cold, ice cold. What ever power is over him is extremely scary, even to me. However....He even said so himself. Now I have a big puzzle to use my extreme intellect against. PS: What the fuck is up with this town and dragons? I was told they had just dealt with another dragon sighting not that long ago. And why is this dragon the commander of the northern armies? What in the living fuck?

Baradin's Journal - Early Summer I had thought with the slaying of the greater feyr Portlandio would return to normal. Instead the corruption plaguing the city has grown... It runs deep. Infecting everything around me. I can see it on the streets. In the markets and among the people. Both noble and lowborn... A tangled web of deceit links several factions together. The Koryon generals. Lord Harlepen and his brigands. The orc raiders. And unfortunately Count Horukh; Portlandio's new Margrave. But who is at the center? The puppet master pulling all the strings and watching everyone dance... I watched the coronation ceremony. Heard the increased call for governmental authority... Saw the great wyrm descend... It is all utter madness! Our true foe remains hidden... But its apparent their game is afoot! The dice have been cast and the chess pieces are moving. I fear the avalanche has already started and its too late for us pebbles to vote...

We played a side-session today, based on Urban Encounters! Players rolled the urban encounters, DM ad-libbed, co-operative worldbuilding to set up the scenarios, and we resolved in-gameplay with roleplaying and dice as appropriate. The urban encounter rolling ideas are from a cool blog, http://rpgknights.com/urban-random-encounters/ First the new Margrave Horukh met with Torvald , and Baradin at the Naughty Nymph (the party's Inn), after the Coronation Ceremony. Chakavi helped (or tried valiantly to help) the Shipmaster to get free from a Wall Of Force spell, that had stopped the shipmaster as he was walking to attend the Coronation festival. Sigma met a Halfling street-person who showed him to a glowing symbol etched on the wall of a Government-district secured building facility. It turned out to be a magical Glyph Of Warding which went-off and shocked Sigma the Minotaur with a jolt of electricity damage. Torvald spotted a Rainbow Painted Gargoyle, a statue upon the Merry Mermaid Inn and Tavern, which had been found by the Innkeeper in a back alley. Baradin happened to pass Mama San's massage parlor where he saw the role-call of common customers included Airen the Bullywug, the General Yi Bang himself, and Lord Harlepen who had carried out an affair with a local merchant here. Horukh investigated an explosion at a library and records-keeping office near the shipyards and customs offices. First he rescued a Hobgoblin volunteer librarian who was slow to exit the burning building. Next he assigned Wizard investigators and prosecuted and punished an evil-seeming Abjurer Mage who had set a Fire Trap spell. We play again next Thursday (19th)! And then on Tuesday May 24. Great job on the Journals above (Bonez, Cat, Solid) . Propose your Bonus XP in chat on a game day, and I will approve.
Portlandio speaks to me now. The city trusts me. I have been deep under it and climbed its high places. As my crew build it anew, the city confides in me. There were many deaths here, like a battelfield, but those killed were not soldiers. They are unquiet spirits, because they were wronged, but few of them are enraged. After the typhoon, many buildings were levelled and where they were, new pathways have been made. As we build the boardwalks, we build the new common ways that Portlandians will travel, safer than before. In this way, I think Portlandio is becoming my maze. I know each shortcut and broad street, and each district has its own variety of people and flavor of food. I find that I am naturally drawn to patrolling the streets, though at first I thought I was only inspecting workmanship. Reassuring.

Journal window remains open, up until the Tuesday game Main Session. Sigma received Journal bonus XP for the above post about Portlandio maze-view development. Thanks Larry ! Really cool pictures and ideas with the maze-shape impression. Window is open for Journals of May 19 session side-quest! vs 3x Formorian Giants, and an 8-headed Cryo-Hydra. May 19 side quest session was fun and combat-heavy: against Formorian Giants (very strong, smelly, hairy, and wicked!), one was a Monster Herder who specifically taunted Sigma and the party, and their 8-headed Cryo-Hydra captive beast on a flatbed trailer with a 30-foot tall bone cage. One Formorion snuck up in the swamp weeds and surprise-attacked Chakavi with a tree-trunk sized club! Another Formorion Giant knocked down Valkenhayn the Catfolk Invoker (to negative 2 HP). Sigma went face-to-face in a massive battle: directly against the cold-mist Hydra dragon, and the Formorion Monster Herder leader who smashed the minotaur to negative-HP and partially blunted his horns. In the end the party won the battle and got a lot of Experience and some gems and gold! 2 near-dead PC's were revived, and all were Healed back up. Sigma (Larry): Hydra heads, hydra hide for armor, whatever the giants had too. DM Reply: You can harvest these items. The hydra hide is not very strong, it is a bit rubbery. It only makes Hide Armor (non magic). Whatchagonnado with the 6 heads that could be taken? (2 heads were incinerated). I'll re-write the Giant's loot into the Treasure/Loot thread. One more thing, Sigma can look around the scene and possibly obtain a few more lesser-monsters that the Monster Hunter had in cages. I'll update you on what new caged-monsters you can find.

Here is a DM-Journal picture of an advertisement flyer, found on the Formorians after the sidequest party killed the extra-wicked Giants and their Cryo-Hydra beast-on-a-flatbed-trailer. Having hand-lettered their calling-cards with a Crayola Extra-Thick Crayon and a crudely horned portrait drawing making a mockery of a locally-renowned Minotaur Ranger ( Sigma the "Master of Monsters" in Portlandio), the Formorian Giants were distributing these leaflets all around Laffite and South-East Portlandio recently. Call 1-800-NEWGIANT to order a monster delivery for your personal uses. Serving the Portlandio-Lafitte area since 2016. (First Annual Going out of business sale, May 19, 2016). Cat F. said: Does this week get journals? Basically, yes, please proceed. Look at it as maximum 1 journal window per Session that the PC played. Cat+Valk played Tuesday..... and then Thursday, so you should already have your Journal XP for Anarchy journal (if not then I owe it to you), and you can write a new Valk Journal considering the Formorian Monster Hunter session. Bonez played that Tuesday and already wrote his journal and, actually I know he showed up Tuesday and had a player-inspired chat with Larry and Azur , maybe others. So basically players like Bonez already wrote his journal for that past Tuesday (last week) and, he could only write another Journal now if there's something to write about from whatever they did on Tuesday without a DM. Whereas Larry and Rex have both played this Thursday (Formorians) even after the Tuesday player meeting, so if they write another Journal now it would probably be just 1 more journal. I think Larry is the lone person who may have snuck in a Journal between Tuesday-Thursday-Thursday (the one about how Portlandio city is like a Maze) so that he could get still another Journal covering Thursday. And, last stipulation in mind, Players who ran 2 different PC's in a single session, they usually write 1 Journal (I think, such as Solid writing for either Torvald or Baradin if he happens to run them both in a single session), but if they wrote 2 journals from 2 PC's perspectives then they could both get XP if they wanted to. It's flexible and designed to encourage Journaling, just not to the point of multiple Journals for 1 PC x 1 Session. Cat is qualified to write another one now / before upcoming Tuesday. Doesn't have to be about the Formorian encounter per se, but your window to Journal again was unlocked by playing in that.
One thing about being a Challenger of Destiny is always true: You WILL not just be hurt often, you will be hurt BADLY. --- Sigma, Master of Monsters, Ranger, Challenger of Destiny and Warrior of the Broken Spear. (new artwork by Larry Dixon) I have been burned, I have been cut, I have fallen down a cliffside then nearly drowned, but never before have I been hit so hard as I was by that Formorian Giant leader. In battle, senses are sharpened or dulled as needed, in split-seconds, according to what my training taught me. When that Giant struck me, my vision went white, my hearing of everything outside of me ceased and I heard the---to me---slow splintering sounds, wet and prolonged, of my skull crackingbehind my eyes. I felt the splintering of bone continue, and time slowed down to me so I was aware of nothing and nobody else, and my spine compressed as the blow continued. Vaguely, I knew my hips gave up, my knees buckled, and my arms simply went limp. A last long breath left me as I collapsed under that strike. The giant’s weapon eased up then, but I do not know for how long. I don’t think my maul had even hit the ground before the giant struck my head again, twisting it sideways against the direction my body was falling. I felt the deep break in my skull splinter further, and when the giant’s backswing snapped my head the other way, I dully realized, he was breaking my horns off, taking trophies before I was even dead. My senses showed me nothing, but I was aware of mud, and blood, and my last breath finally ending. And that is where I stayed. In that moment. After a season in that moment, I came up from the awareness of a dull animal, slow and bored, into a world around me. I was gradually awakening over the course of weeks, perhaps months. Others would come by and put flowers on me, or leave little baskets or bits of paper, as I came into having full senses again. I was among minotaurs, all strong and healthy, all happy. Children played and warriors drilled in displays of perfection. I rose up to a kneel and stood as another season passed, and the flowers and baskets fell away from me. Another season passed, and I put my first hoofprint here into snow. Then everything resumed a normal time, as I understood it, and everyone was glad to see me. There was a city, layer upon layer, magnificent, with water channels everywhere, even fifty, sixty feet above ground. I was told I had children, and some were grown with families of their own. As I walked, I was dressed in enchanted armor and the trappings of a general. I saw there were not just minotaurs there now, but creatures that were made of starlight, and elves, dragons, gryphons, great eagle-men and many creatures I could not even describe, and they led me to a feast where I stood before a bonfire. It was a great fire I somehow knew. Furnace and his mates and children and grandchildren stepped out from its edges and gathered around me. In the crowd I could sense, the Challengers were there, and there were those who guarded them as well. I stood taller than ever, and when I looked up, I saw my horns were capped in sharpened sunlight. That sunlight grew brighter, until it overtook all of my awareness. I kept looking further and further up, tilting my head back, back, until…. My broken body was arched back upon itself, my head split open and Swargen was pulling my life back into my blood and bone. Swargen, noblest warrior I have ever known. If Thor ever disrespects Swargen, I will knock Thor’s teeth out, god or not. Now I am no prettier, and the headaches will not leave, and I bear the marks of a truly deadly wound, but the world is free of three giants and a cryohydra. More danger awaits. My horns are broken, but my determination is not.
Swargen Journal 5/19/2016 Session I am lost no more..... Giants have begun to invade my new home, and nearly killed 2 of my companions. I felt the Might of Thor surge into me with a force i have not felt in years. Renewed in the strength of my faith, i journeyed out into the wilderness after seeing my companions back to Portlandio, to the place i came ashore in this cursed land. Again, my faith was tested, and renewed..... a new pelt adorns my frame, and a new vigor in my step. Thor's Hammer, Girdle, and Gauntlets will be mine, the Giants will be destroyed for all time, and both of my tribes will be safe from the threat for the remainder of their days. This i swear, by Thor's Mighty Hammer. - Thor Guide My Hammer and Shield Our Lives
That picture looks exactly like Azur's description in my Character Sheet xD
I love it. There is a part of me that read "Thor's Hammer, Girdle, and Gauntlets will be mine" as "I am gonna punch Thor in the throat, and take his stuff." *big grin*

Even The Most Intelligent Can Have Moments of Stupidity. My side job for Sigma has been going well. Page by page we get this information down. I had a moment of stupidity today. Rare, I know, but I guess it happens even to the best of us. I went with other Challengers to investigate the rumors of another monster tamer (That term is so stupid, by the way.) What made me mad was how the grammar of common was used on the posters I saw, they were atrocious. It filled me with rage. The posters seemed to be targeted specifically at Sigma. Now, sure, Sigma is not a bastion for intelligence, but at least he can SPEAK properly for the love of all that is smart. Plus, I'd say it's fair to say that he's smarter than the average bull. Things had a rough start, I had to walk through a gross swamp, then an ugly asshole giant hit me hard. However, he was quickly bested by my knowledge of the Arcane, the asshole couldn't hit what he couldn't reach. Advantage, me. There was another one running away too, he totally ate it too. Fuck both of them. Sigma discovered a Hydra in their cage, though. I had never seen a Hydra in person before, read about them in school, however. Well, I killed that thing too. It was going great.... Then one of the ugly giants knocked down Sigma, and I mean hard. Even as far away as I was I saw how much that hurt. I don't know what happened. Something in me snapped. Maybe I've grown too attached to these idiots like I have Kricket. I felt a sudden stupid urge....I had to help him. Problem was, I was running out of magic missiles I could cast, I was getting tired. But, I had to help him! So I figured I'd do something big! I had to get close though, but I got too close. Not only was my Fire Sphere barely effective....I ALSO bit the dust. I don't remember much after that. I saw things while my eyes were closed....I'd rather not talk about it, since it was just a dream anyways. I'm not ready for some sort of after life. The Human, the big one, he brought me back to life...I think. At the very least he woke me up and he mended my wounds perfectly. I still have a bit of a headache, but that's about it.....I would never say this out loud, but I owe the Human, Swargen, a debt for my life right now. But, I'll pay it back soon. I HATE being in Debt. If anyone tells Kricket about this I will burn their faces in.

Swargen Journal 5/23/2016 Seeing the familiar sight of some of the most deadly warriors known to any tribe bolstered my faith even more. Berserkers are always a welcome sight, though i am not sure others would agree. To take down a wyrm of that size, took the strength of us all. But then, just as i was most needed, Thor gripped my mind, and showed me visions; visions of a mighty dragon, sitting atop Thors Artifacts as if they were mere treasure to be hoarded...... if only the beast knew i was coming. I know success awaits, I have seen the visions of myself victorious over the Giants, leaning heavily upon The Hammer. Then my vision cleared and before us was a statue...... impossible for it to be the source of the visions.... Thor may deny me divination powers, but visions like these could only come from him. - Thor guide my Hammer as your own

Excerpt from Kricket's Book of Manly Experiences. Strange how creatures separate themselves into groups. Civilized and Uncivilized, Native and Foreign, Clan and Tribe, Us and Them. Its base instincts to trust what you understand and to shun the unknown. Its safe . But what happens when you're cast out of the Us to become a Them? The trust that you've taken for granted is destroyed, and your left to the ranks of them. When face with this, there are but two options. Death, or venture out onto the blinding surface in search of a Them that can serve as an Us. If a hidden Us can not be found, then you are faced with two more choices. Death, or adopt until a suitable Us is found. It is not right for a Kobold to be alone. I am alone. The surface Them's have been surprisingly tolerant, but they have made one thing painfully clear. They will accept my gold, my work, and my help, but I am not one of Them, and I am not welcome here. Best to keep my head down, pay my dues, and move on to the next Them. I am a stranger in a strange land populated by smiling politicians with poison in Their hearts. On dark nights, I fantasize of returning to the clan and joining the warmth of the nest. My body aches from the loneliness, but my soul shuns the thought of the earth crushing me beneath it's weight. Even then, I know in my heart that I'll never rest with my brethren again. I've traveled to far for too long. My scent has changed, and rather then seeing a clutch mate, they'd see me as predictor or prey. I am alone, but I find a measure of comfort in the lonesomeness of others. Valkenhayn was estranged for his intellect. Try as he might, he can't have a friendship with someone who's below him. If only he and equal he could share his gifts with, and his foolishness. Upon entering the town, there was another Kobold. His casual words struck fear into my heart. Of all things, a Kobold without his guard is the most dangerous. I avoided answering him and have avoided him ever sense. Divines, I hope there isn't a burrow of Them near by. Odd enough, there was a minotaur as well. A quaint fellow who calls himself Sigma. Stupid, stubborn, slow, direct, he does his race honor. It seems that he was a Us that became a Them. Now he's trying to gather the Them's together against the local Us. As much as I'd be entertained by the fire that would ensue, his actions unnerve me. The other day he tried teaching me what respect was in his Them. I was... confused, and at a loss for words. He is most certainly a Them, but I would be disappointed to see him die. My emotions for Sigma worry me. It is not right for a Kobold to be alone, but it is also not right for a Kobold value another's life because of useless emotions. This surface world's corruption is twisting my soul. I fear what I am becoming, but I can no longer look back. The mines of Kurkul- *a smear of ink obscures the rest of this page as if the quill had been broken*
(Awesome posts everyone! Alas I will still miss Tuesday (tomorrow) due to travel, but I should be able to play Thursday.)
Depending on various factors I might miss tomorrow's session. Will try to be there, though.
An interesting trip, so far. The trip to the mage begins. Things have been going reasonably well so far. We met Berserkers, and despite the fact I suggested (with my superior intellect) that we stay away, a few of my traveling companions went to talk to them. (However, given how things resulted, maybe I was wrong. Note to self: Don't say this out loud.) During this, I got to see the more primitive side of some of my traveling companions. In particular, two of the humans, one not surprising (the Barbarian, unsurprising because I saw him punch a rock and not give a shit. Who the hell does that?), and one surprising (priest). Of course, the other unsurprising participant was our lovable walking steak, Sigma (Not surprisingly, considering how badly he is at Chess, his participating in such a silly ceremony of stomping and shouting and getting lines drawn on your body). However, don't take this as me hating on Beef. I actually quite like Sigma a lot, almost as much as Kricket. Despite his lack of intelligence, his humor is dry (thus, automatically funny), his leadership skills are excellent. Even to the point where I will (sometimes) follow his instructions. Oh, and seeing him go apeshit on some orcs was pretty cool too, I guess. The insight he has given me to write about the orcs so far is fascinating to say the least. Speaking of which, Orcs. We were attacked (ambushed?) on our way up in the woods. Wave after wave of orcs and their rock monsters attacked us. I'm very curious to see what seems to be going on, because that was QUITE a lot of Orcs to just be sitting in just one place waiting for unsuspecting travelers to mug. Either way, I'm fine, the most I took was an arrow in my leg. I blew the living fuck out of them with my magic missiles. I'm getting tired though, so that leaves me worried. Especially since we have no clue what's ahead, and until we know we've cleared the forest out it would be unwise to try to rest to gain my mental strength back. I'll just have to push on. Luckily, I still have tricks up my sleeve.
Not sure why it is so surprising Swargen joined the 'zerkers, considering he's a barbarian himself (more viking style, though):P
Just a reminder I won't be here this week for either game. But it looks like I was given Tuesday's off so I should be returning next week.
Take care m8 you will be missed!

Paul & Bonez , make sure you each got +550 XP bonus for Journals of May 23 week. Cat , you'll get that too -- but it's best to wait and propose it in-chat next time you play and I'll approve and you'll be squared away then. Opening Window for Journals of May 31 session 4 more PC's met Ota Sura at last, bringing the total to 6 so far, all undertaking the quest she's proposed to you. For these 6, the quest is known and we're starting to think like what we are about to become! Baradin Torvald Airen Kricket Cylara Chakavi 5 PC's still remain who are on-their-way to meet Ota Sura and hear the mission. For them, it is a mystery, and they'll each get a chance to speak with Ota Sura and decide for themselves. Sigma Valkenhayn Azur Swargen Rajhad Feel free to write your Journal about the events of your most-recent game session, or a different style such as backstory, or campfire RP as a Play-By-Post. Talking about 'the orc situation' is not forbidden, but, remember that 5 of your party-mates have not met Ota Sura and agreed to her magic, yet, as of today's writing. Solid, Chris, Bonez, Silks, and Erik - You may start to discuss & Journal-ize your reaction to Ota Sura's special mission, but you don't have to mention it yet. Optional. We will be playing Ota Sura's adventure for the next few weeks, so there will be plenty of time to make Journals about the Orcs and the Orc City in June. Larry, Cat, Rex, Paul - The later 5 PC's don't even know what Ota is offering yet. You will find out soon, when we next get together to play that you can attend .

I took a screenshot & turned the map sideways so Players can get a better look at what "Rockette" was trying to chisel & Earthbend from the head-boulder of the rocky hillock. Do you know about the "Old Man Of The Mountain" from New Hampshire? Watch this YouTube to learn about the Old Man Of The Mountain, to get an idea of the size of the in-game boulders we are talking about, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n92KjA7fn30 Scroll and read the Colossal graphic, Next session, the Party members who are aware of the above, might want to inform Ota Sura that some of the Earthbender Orcs have a plan to bring-forth a 500-foot colossus just a few miles to the South of Honshar! While Ota sends forces (reinforcements to the elves in the trees) to deal with the Colossus threat, the party members (now in a certain kind of special disguise) can proceed Northward, going part-way via teleport and the rest of the way on-foot to the Orcish city of Kimba Hai, for the important quest.
Good news is I'll see y'all next week. Bad news is it can't come soon enough.

Cat F. said: Good news is I'll see y'all next week. Bad news is it can't come soon enough. It was a fun session with several PC's reaching a pivotal juncture. You were missed. As DM, I really wanted to tax your spell-list since Valk had used up all his Magic Missiles for the day. Player Absent - Character who was preoccupied - Reason PC was distracted (Player who gave the reason) Larry Sigma & Furnace Chris Airen explained that Sigma was ________ ( Chris C , reply or add this answer in your journal) Cat Valkenhayn Bonez narrated that Valkenhayn had his head in his books, reading, studying and writing. Rex Azur Erik said that Azur had wandered off picking white mushrooms as recommended by the Berserkers. Paul Swargen & Rajhad Rajhad emerged from its hiding in a wagon, Swargen casted StoneShape, and then tarried by the boulders. Cat -- you're 1 of 4 players whose PC is at a stage where, you're invited to The O.S.Q. -- Ota Sura's Quarter -- to meet her and hear her Quest proposal. This is a key plot twist point of the game! We're aiming to play that with you on Tuesday next week, and catch you up to the others starting from there, however if we both match up on an open-time Sunday night or Monday night, we could play a one-on-one, and you'll get let-in on Ota's secret request early. That would help get us a step ahead before Tuesday. Would you have any open time on this upcoming Sunday-Monday? Honestly I wouldn't mind if Bonez spoils it by telling you about the Ota Sura offer, as Kricket has heard it, but we are definitely going to RP it in-game anyway with every Player-Character who wants "in" on this particular adventure quest. Ota Sura wipes some gardening dirt off her hands, and looks intently, benevolently, at each individual PC in the Party.
It's a possibility I think. Depends what you mean by night. Sunday might be better, but it depends what time of day you were looking into. I might be able to talk even earlier than that. Also, I never did get with you about leveling up Valkenhayn

Cat , that would be great if you can play today. Also I will (of course) work with you on Level Up. Bonez and Rajhad have done theirs, over the last few days. Getting ready to play today. Recent Ota Sura Map Overviews for Everyone I wanted to provide you all with some maps for the forum, to look at out-of-game. First there is a zoomed-out map of Ota Sura's town (also called Honshar). Below that is an overview map of the Road to Ota Sura's that you traversed up from the South. I put this map together in Roll20 using more than 250 graphics, tokens, buildings, and premade tiles! Bonez said it is one of the most detailed town maps he has seen in Roll20. Ota Sura founded the Elf Library and Gardens in the Northwest quadrant of this. The party enters through Southgate on your first arrival. Above map: Overview of Ota Sura's town map! This is a smaller screenshot of the Road to Ota Sura's from the South, where you encountered Earthbender Orcs trying to rock-bend a 500-foot tall colossus EarthRocker.
That is a truly epic map, Gold! Superb!

Excerpt from Kricket's Book of Manly Experiences. ((The section of Kricket's journal that's recorded below is written in cryptic mixture of Kobold and common)) Ha! I can't believe my good fortune. Enduring Sigma's friendship payed off in spades. Turns out that he's friends with a very powerful mage named Ota Sura. She wanted to dress us up with a magical disguise and send us off to infiltrate an orcish horde. As much as I respect her powerness, she is a fool. I would have payed a very high price to go on this mission. Instead, I played hard to get and was rewarded with unlimited access to her private library, a tome of my choice to keep, and her tutelage. The chance to explore another culture from the inside, as one of them! Its a scholar's dream. The fat elf doesn't even realize the opportunity she's given me. If I play my cards right, I'll be able to learn which side has the most to offer me, which side is likely to loose the war, and which side I want to betray. The real trick will be weighing the risk against the reward. The orcs are not without their advantages. Their brutish nature makes them prime candidates for manipulation, prediction, and cannon fodder. Their magic is primitive but unique. I'm still trying to confirm if the nature of their elemental dance is arcane, divine, something else, or a mixture of the three. Their dance may have clues as to the root of all magic. I admit that their excessive gestures are inefficient to say the least. Finally, their impressive breeding bears further investigation. Their factory likely nothing but a cesspool for mating, but if they're using magic to rebirth or create orcs, well, the possibilities are staggering. Its just like the orcs to make that information commonplace and to use it like a club. If I could learn their technique and twist it to my will, I'll have to consider how large of a burrow I want to breed, and what to populate it with. If they're being infused with the earth, then why not the other four elements. An orc with a fiery nature would have a fearsome rage, while an elf with the element of air would be untouchable. Why stop there? Maybe their magic could combine races or create chimeras.... Perhaps they have an artifact as the catalyst to the whole process. My tail's tingling with excitement! I favor the pink skins for their extensive books and their easily abused laws. My position with the challengers of destiny offers me power and freedom at the cost of responsibility and sacrifice. Sigma and Valkenhayn would prove difficult to replace. Still, those are temporary advantages that could disappear with an elf's excuse, a rogue arrow, or the short sighted word of a politician. The sweet rolls are a plus. ((At this point, the journal shifts into a mixture of short handed common and bold orcish runes)) The Fat Elf's spell felt good. I felt blood race through my vanes as my muscles swelled with power. I'm Strong. Stronger then kobold. Maybe I wrestle Sigma. Prove me Strongest. See if he Respect me Then. My loins Ache with Need. How I go so Long without Mate? Elf perfume Stinks Bad. When we go to Orc land, I break Lesser Orc's skull and Claim his Wench. Bloody Meat, Strong Ale, the Beat of Drums. I Long to go to Lesser Orcs and Dominate them. I feel restless. Too much writing. I go out to lift Rocks. Find Big Axe. Heh, wounder what sound Orc make when cleaved in two. Scream like Man or Scream like Pig?

Incoming Stupid Ahead. So, I have finally met this Ota Sura. I won't admit it out loud, but I'm quite impressed with her apparent skill and knowledge into arcane theories. In exchange for turning myself into a filthy stupid creature I have unlimited access to the woman's library. It's amazing (I've already seen it, score one for me.) There is lots for me to learn here, and better myself and to keep learning. I will be back here as soon as the mission is done, I could spend weeks in here. With the completion of Sigma's book, I remember everything he taught me. He tried to warn me it would be gruesome, but in a academic sense it wasn't too terrible. I've seen worse in class. While I have accepted the task, that doesn't mean I like it. I know Orcs, and goblins by extension, are extremely stupid. I really hope my intellect doesn't suffer over the long term for this. There will be hell to pay with Ota Sura if there is when I am turned back. I MUST survive this mission, specifically so that I can change back. I refuse to die in some alternate form of a goblin. Disgusting. On the other hand, I already feel myself improving, the scope of my spells improves with each passing day. This should be cake, as long as we can find out what we need. We find the traitor to Portlandio and the surrounding areas, I get what I need from reading his mind, and then we utterly destroy him. Then destroy that stupid factory, then we get out. (Hopefully the orcs aren't writing secrets down....Might need to look for those and burn those too.) Nervous? yes. Ready? Sure. I can rest easy knowing that Kricket will also be a tiny Goblin as well.
