New people: if you're looking to play, please also go to the "Scheduling" thread and follow the instructions there so we can better schedule our games to times that suit you. Also: If it doesn't belong in the rules discussion and it doesn't belong in the campaign discussions it belongs here.

How to make everyone else in the game hate you: -elect to be an orphan with no mentor -start in town -start with 2 large sacks, 2 quivers, a backpack, and a belt pouch. all full of mirrors. -sell the mirrors in the market. You now have 26D worth of treasure on your level 1 character. -Hire a carpenter to build you a flophouse. -Profit. Optional: use your wealth to start a gang that recruits orphaned children of mirror merchants to the town then robs them.

Hehehe... yeah, absolutely. Don't roll for spells until the session, I'd like to see what you get.
For the other GMs - I've tried to make a 'quick-start' character creation method that expedites things tremendously for first time players. I tested it with Carter earlier and he had a sample character completely finished in 8 minutes. Check the characters->templates folder to take a look. It could use a little polishing but I think it's quite effective.

Hey guys, I'd like to join a game. Are there any games right now that are accepting new players?
Yeah, I think we can manage that dude. You're welcome to stop in for today's game (time is posted on group's main page), just be timely or a bit early if you want to get a character made.
Hey, Thanks a bunch. This means a lot to me. How soon do you want me on?
I'll probably sign on in 1h50m, or 30m before game start. Can make a character then.
alright. are we still going with pre-made characters only?
To anyone lurking about: tomorrow would be an excellent time to hop into the adventure and save your allies from their desperate plight! Some fresh backup with a couple torches and some totally-not-dwarf-meat rations could go a long way for these poor souls!
Also looking for more recruits for the USCMC game (Torchbearer hack) which looks like it's going to have to pause unless we can get at least one more player. See the thread for details.
For what purposes is this campaign forum made for? Is it just for you four guys to host games here or can I look up for players for my own mouse guard games?
I asked to be given GM rights for the USCMC game, but the guy who originally set up the group is away for now. I don't think anyone would object to you asking for players, but I don't think any of the currently active GMs could change your access rights on the group. If anyone knows better feel free to correct me.

Gareth is correct. Unfortunately only one person has control over promoting GMs, setting game times, and editing the front page. We're happy to promote anything in the Burning Wheel family of games so feel free to recruit from here. Also, I think I may have accidentally deleted your other post just now Olli when I was trying to clear out old forum threads to unclutter the place. I didn't realize someone had just made a new mouseguard thread as we had a couple old ones sitting around. I'm super sorry if I did!!! Feel free to repost it.

I'm still here btw.... just not playing. And Gareth you have GM power. P.S. send me a message and i'll update the front page with whatever you what.
Hey, it has been a while but if anyone interested (specially GMT people), I want to start a Saturday game around 7 PM GMT +1. I have Burning Wheel session in afternoon but I want to try something more technical and easy to grasp. I will start a form tonight if you guys are OK for me to suggest it over here.
TED said: ... I actually removed it myself when I was not sure did it belong here. Well, I will post it again after your answers : )
Hey all! I've been playing TB a lot since it was published, it's probably my favorite rpg. I'm interesting in playing in some games, I can also run games if GMs are needed.

Awesome, welcome Austin! If you could fill out the form in our "Scheduling!" thread I can better help you get started. Right now we have one active game that I'm considering rescheduling to accommodate a conflict that's arisen.
Hello everyone! New to the group and looking forward to finally getting a chance to play Torchbearer. I backed the game on kickstarter and have read it a few times, but was the only one in my group interested in it and could never get it to the table. I own Mouse Guard as well, another game I am interested in but have never actually played. I've been playing other games forever, mainly as a GM.
Hello I have been trying to find a group for ever and no luck I have the book the cards and the GM screen and sadly no group to play with I am new but have read through the rules a lot so it shouldn't be much to get me going in the game. I started played rpg around 1979 yes I am old.. Just let me know what I need to do to start a char..Thank you for the invite into the group...
Hey gang, I too am really interested in the Torchbearer system and have read the rules. Would love to join a game!
Welcome! If you haven't already, please look at our "Scheduling" thread and follow the instructions there. Currently what we have available is a Friday session of homebrewed Torchbearer rules adapted to the Shadowrun setting and a tentative one-off of the vanilla game around June 17 or 18. I'm looking at putting together a new weekly game of vanilla Torchbearer as well, which is why it's important for people to go to the Scheduling thread. If you'd like to play in any of these please feel free to express your interest.
I am up for any down torchbearer vanilla game that fits the days i can play
I am definitely (and only) interested in vanilla, since I have never played.
Depending on the day of the vanilla game, I would love to be involved.
Are "Guild Rules" posted anywhere that outline things like, oh I don't know, when someone signs up for a game and just doesn't show up? I've looked around but didn't find any.
Sean L. said: Are "Guild Rules" posted anywhere that outline things like, oh I don't know, when someone signs up for a game and just doesn't show up? I've looked around but didn't find any. Who was that Eric P. ?
Sorry about last night lost internet last night...wasnt able to get back on
I'm not sure if you're asking Eric P. who it was or if you're asking me if it was Eric P. It wasn't Eric P. I don't have an issue with the person who missed last night. Maybe they had internet problems or an emergency. However, I've found missing games to be rampant on roll20 (much more so than google hangouts for some reason). And, I value my time as I imagine most others do. So I started wondering if you guys had a policy letting people know that missing games repeatedly wasn't tolerated here. I didn't see one so I'm asking if you have one.
We posted at the same time. I certainly wasn't refering to you Eric. You showed up.

I assume you are referring to me. I do apologize for missing last night, but life happens. In this case life took on the form of me driving my roommate to the ER after he got second an third degree burns to 90% of his leg. The reason roll20 seems to have a lot of people missing session is (I believe) due to it not being in person. We don't have a policy for missing sessions that I am aware of. Sometimes it would be nice, like for Friday's session when only two people showed up. But in this guild I generally find that we end up playing 90% of the sessions that are scheduled. The players may fluctuate but we do. Its also the reason why torchbearer has a system for characters who miss a session. So when you're here I would generally expect to play 90+% of the sessions. Just don't expect absolutely everyone to be there.

I'm sorry to hear about your roommate and thanks for responding to let us know what happened. I'm glad to hear that 90% of the games are played. But I want to reply to a couple things you said: 1. "Just don't expect absolutely everyone to be there." I thought I was pretty clear that I understand that things do really happen and I provided for that in this case. However: 2. "The reason roll20 seems to have a lot of people missing session is (I believe) due to it not being in person." Being online may be a part of it but I don't believe its the whole story. I've not seen anywhere near the same level of tardinees/absence in g+ for example as I see here. I can only speculate as to why but I think part of it is the free membership part where people just make a new user if they get a bad name. That leads to a lot of people being burned then they turn around and do the same thing. That's human nature. If it's not obvious I'm pushing for a policy in this case. I've been in a very well organized guild before that fell apart because people just stopped showing up to games so often. When I first joined they had weekly community meetings. 4 or 5 active GM's and a few in training. 2 or 3 sessions a week. Then people started missing games. Some gm's pushed for a policy and the response was "We don't want to be a-holes". As it continued those gms were the first to go. It got worse for a while and now it's dead.
My advice is to get 5-6 party members so if someone misses you can still play.
So the answer is you don't have a policy.
mistrlittlejeans@gmail.com said: My advice is to get 5-6 party members so if someone misses you can still play. I would also have another game ready. We often play Microscope when only 2ppl+GM are present. Also, confirming with the group multiple time helps. Weekly games become habits after a while, which increased attendance, in my opinion. I do not think a policy is needed, the retention rate is already very low for games.

"I do not think a policy is needed, the retention rate is already very low for games." I'm sorry to beat a dead horse here but you know what will make your retention go even lower? If people show up to games that don't run because one or more people didn't show up without notice. Who's going to get butthurt if you make a policy about not showing up for games? It's certainly not the people who show up to their games baring an extreme obstacle (like the internet being down or someone's leg being burnt off). It's not like I'm talking about a zero tolerance, first time and there's the door thing. Just something that lets folks know that missing games is something that should be minimized and will be noticed. Everybody misses games. I've missed games. Things come up. I've never been in such a dire situation where I can't get to a computer to let folks know I won't be there but I could see where it could happen. I'm not really sure why you're calling yourself a guild if you're not going to manage things like this. I think it's more accurate to say this group is a meetup. Alright, I'll shut up now.

I will add a Guild rules sticky, we can discuss the matter further threre.
Fair enough. I have added my "first shot across the bow" in that thread.
On a lighter note, thanks for the add. Been interested in Torchbearer for a while and I finally broke down and ordered the rulebook. It's still in the mail, but I've been drooling over the PDF. Looking forward to playing with you all. I currently DM some DND Adventurer's League games locally and am getting a Savage Worlds group going locally. I'd like to get comfortable with this system a bit and I'd be happy to run games after that. Hope to see you all out there!!!
Cool, welcome aboard Bill :) Also, I'm back from my trip!
Hey so I'm back and I wanted to know when the next game would be, and if there was a spot for me.
Ask Eric P. about the Saturday group they may have a spot.

Hi all. I come from an OSR background and am looking for a game to play in to help me learn the system. I'm wanting to eventually run it but want to make sure I "get it" first.
Hey Kevin your welcome to my game on Saturday.
