Being broke and down on your luck you've decided to take up the life of an adventurer, after all you've always felt you were born for it. Growing up you realized that you were always a cut above your peers, you've dabbled in some other occupations but wanderlust just seems to course through your veins, the road is calling there's adventure in the offing! The System is Based on the Philosophy that you make your character what he or she is not a Rule that says they can do this or can't do that, Number Crunching is kept to a Minimum and during a round of Action you are not waiting 5 or more minutes for your next turn. You are about to start a Character for Use in the Ajax System for Fantasy Role Playing, Rules are quite simple and will be briefly explained here for more details see the whole document. Common folk have Ability Scores of -3, Adventurers like you come from heartier stock and thus you have starting Ability Scores of -2. The exception is Constitution or CON which all creatures start with a CON of 0. A Starting Ajax System PC has the Starting Abilites: (This was recently edited to use an Array instead of a Point System) The six Ability Scores are created using the following Array. +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2. Arrange these into the STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHA scores. (Understand these are the scores or modifiers, in this system they are one and the same) Hit Points are 6 + 6XCON, so if your CON = 0 you have 6 Hit Points, CON = 1 you have 12, CON = 3 you have 18 Hit Points. You can then choose one of these Races: Dwarf: gets Advantage on CON Checks, has a Speed of 30 feet, and can see in the Dark. Elf: gets Advantage on INT Checks, has Speed of 40 feet, and can see in the Dark. Halfling: get +1 to AC due to size, gets Advantage on CHA Checks, has a Speed of 30 feet. Human: get One Extra Ability Point (however no Starting Ability Score can exceed +3), has a Speed of 40 feet. Starting GOLD = 6d6 Gold Pieces. Then Choose a Class from the Following: Cleric: Minimum WIS for a Cleric is 1, Can Cast Divine Spells, can wear any armor, can use Non Edged Weapons only, has a Fighter Bonus of 0, Gets Advantage when Dealing with Undead. Mana = WIS X CON. Fighter: Minimum STR for a Fighter is 1, Can wear any armor and use any weapon. Has a Fighter Bonus of +2. Rogue: Minimum DEX for a Rogue is 1, Can wear leather armor can use one hand weapons only, can Backstab when Target is Flanked, can use tools to affect traps and locks. Has a Fighter Bonus of 1. Wizard: Minimum INT for a Wizard is 1, Cannot wear any armor, can use Quarterstaffs and Daggers only, can Cast Arcane Spells, Mana = INT X CON. Has a Fighter Bonus of -1. These are the raw workings of the Races and Classes the characters can do or try just about anything within Reason, Logic, and Common Sense. Playing the Game: Advantage and Disadvantage are simply +3 or -3. All Checks and Saves are Rolled against a Static DC which is 10. Combat Rolls are Rolled against the Target's Armor Class of course. Everything is an Action including Movement. Each turn you get two Actions (that's it, no bonus Actions, special feats, or anything else that slows the game down). You can split your Move if you choose, but remember Move is an Action. And yes this does mean you could Attack Twice in a Round but then you couldn't move. No you cannot Cast 2 Spells, but you could cast a Cantrip and a Spell, and no you can't Cast Two Cantrips, but you could Cast a Spell or a Cantrip and make an Attack with a Weapon. Remember Everything is an Action. There is another Handout listing examples of What is an Action. There are No Attacks of Opportunity. Skills are just straight up Rolls made with the relevant ability, example Insight would use WIS, a Knowledge check would use INT, etc. The 5 Second Rule: When your Turn comes up in the Initiative you have 5 seconds to start your turn or you lose it SO PAY ATTENTION during Combat Encounters. The Magic System: Pretty simple, we use 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons Spells, some need to be slightly modified. I have quite a few of the more common ones Macro'd, any other ones we can adjust as the game progresses. Ajax System Uses Mana instead of Spell Lots, Mana = INT or WIS X CON. Level one Spells Cost 1 Mana to Cast, Cantrips are free. You can Cast Spells of a level equal to your INT or WIS - 1, that means you would have to have an INT or WIS of at least 1 to Cast Cantrips and at least 2 to Cast Level One Spells. If your INT or WIS is 3 you could Cast Level 2 Spells (these of course have a Mana Cost of 2. Leveling THE BIG ONE: There are NO LEVELS in the Ajax System, no XP, you buy Training to Increase Ability Scores that's it. Cost of Ability Increase is 100 + 100 X the Next Increase, From -2 to - 1 Cost = 100, -1 to 0 Cost = 100, 0 to +1 Cost = 200 (100 + 100X1), +1 to +2 Cost = 300, Etc. GOLD is the only Coinage used in the Ajax System, you need lots of it and there's lots available for those bold enough to go out and get it. Dying and Death: When you receive a wound or damage that would reduce your Hit Points to below 1, that damage Stops at 1 Hit Point, a PC at 1 Hit Point can Take ONE Action only, if he or she takes any more damage they fall unconscious. Unconscious PCs must Roll a CON Save each round or Die, any failed CON save here you are DEAD! You don't Stabilize you have to keep making the CON Saves each Round until you either Roll a Natural 20, then you gain 1 Hit Point and are Conscious (but still at only 1 Hit Point) OR an Allie or something Heals you. Okay Long Read I know, but if anyone is still here and would like to help me test this system out in a couple of One Shot Games Please Send me, Ajax, a Private Message, thank you.
I have not had a chance read the full post yet but you sold me on the title. So i will pm you my discord and we can talk.
A word about Monsters and NPCs, in the Ajax System a monster or NPC does not have a full slate of ability scores, they all have 3 Attributes and one special ability. Example a Goblin has HP 6, AC 12, Universal Factor or UF -1(this is what the goblin would use for Any Attack, Check, or Save), Special they have Pack Tactics, so they get Advantage (+3) on Attacks when they have Allies Attacking with Melee weapons the same Target.
