[LFG] Anything but dnd!

Well actually not anything. I’m old enough now to be more picky about how I spend my free time so I’m really looking for a group that’s more into interesting story telling and character development than what we used to call “murder hobos.” I enjoy systems like pbta, blades, fate, etc. and don’t really want to spend my time diving into a rules heavy system. Emphasis on collaborative improvisational story telling rather than being told a story, and on “role”playing rather than “roll”playing. Let me know if you have a group of reliable, mature gamers without a complete lack of social skills and would like another. Or if you need a gm I would be willing to run such games, though I think the best groups are ones where everyone is comfortable running games so you know what it’s like on both sides of the table and are willing to contribute to building a narrative rather than being a passive audience member.

Hello there Eli. Me, and a friend of mine are currently trying to find a game, and neither of us wish to play any of D&D's various editions. Both of us are experienced at roleplaying various systems, from Fate Core to Savage Worlds, and we're both strong proponents of character interaction. We've been trying to find ourselves a game of like-minded players. Neither of us currently wish to GM ourselves, as it's been a very long time since we've both been players, as one of us is usually GMing a game. I will say that we prefer to play our games entirely text-based. Suffice to say though, we are interested.
Eli! Where were you a year ago before I gave up and turns to the 5th Ed side?! :D Seriously, I'd love to run something like this. I gave up about a year ago after non-D&D games failed to garner a critical mass of interest. Admittedly, I also run by text, which further limited the pool, but still, switching to D&D garnered dozens of applications where Blue Rose and others garnered only a couple. If we can get a critical mass of interest, I'd run something one weeknight (Pacific Time) a week.
I have been thinking about starting my modern day monster hunters game soon using GURPS ruleset, but I'm picky about my players. I'd prefer to get to know you guys a bit before I commit to that. On roll 20 I have always used D&D or Pathfinder as I don't have a lot of prep time and using those two I have character sheets with macros and api that run most everything for me. With GURPS it would be less automatic. Let me know.
I'm curious what a text based game would look like. Do you all mean you just like post stuff back and forth in a forum or just in a live text chat without voice? I get the former if it were because of scheduling issues, but if it's the later I'm not sure why you wouldn't just talk to each other, typing seems like it would be such a pain
Text based as in live text based, is what my friend and I prefer. At least for us and with our experiences, it's far easier to be in-character, and seems to just be more comfortable for us. I've done voice based before, especially in real life with friends and brothers of mine since that's the only option, but those games tend to not be roleplay focused, more silly. And while that's not always the case, it's been more often then not. Not to knock people who do that, that's just my experience. For us anyway, it's not at all a pain. As a plus, when you type in roleplaying games, there's generally less confusion, and speaking over each other. No need for repeats. I'd get if that's not your cup of tea, though.
I see. Yeah I will often use that kind of chat for in character stuff as well if I want to wordsmith it. And then just talk for ooc stuff or things I don’t want to spend time typing out.
I'm interested in playing almost any any non-D&D game with quality people involved, but am only interested in voice games. Text is really really slow and most people that play text games are painfully bad writers. I'd play in a GURPs voice game if that ends up happening.
Eli, yeah, I use real-time text chat for gaming. Used to use IRC (which still has one thing it does better than Roll20), but now I use Roll20 (which does everything else better), and just make-do with the logs as they are. I use a server on Discord for between-game discussions and reminders, and have occasionally been known to use the voice, but generally I just send messages on Discord. I know text-based isn't for everyone, so I don't push. :) Anyway, I'd be up for something non-D&D. I do a fun Mage, a fun supers setting of my own design, and I'd really love to run a good Blue Rose series (which, I don't love the system, but I do love the setting and the focus on relationships in the stories). I might be up for playing over voice, but if I GM, it's text.

There are text games that are in game room asynchronous (similar to live but slower) and there are play by post games which can use the forums for game text and dice, sheet use, and maps contained in the game room itself.
GM here- assuming some slightly awkward EU scheduling is possible, I'd certainly be down for running a game in whatever-that-isn't-5e. My main interests at the moment are running some GURPS, WH40K:OW, Warhammer Fantasy, Call of Cthulhu or one of the many fairly unknown rules-light systems I've gathered up. Also, in voice preferably, since this conversation has taken a bit of a voice-or-text turn. Still, I suppose one major fault here is that I have a preference for the more rules-heavy systems. Though, do hit me up or whatever if this sounds like what you want.
I'd be interested. I haven't played in ages, but I always enjoyed systems designed for building skill based characters, rather than class based ones. For me it was GURPs, Hero System, Palladium games and Call of Cthulhu, but I'd be up for anything. I do have pretty limited availability, but who knows, a game might happen when I can make it.
Hey, I am a DM for a weekly campaign of The One Ring (Lord of the Rings) to introduce new players to the system. Currently playing with some good people, looking to add 2-3 more. Very story and roleplay heavy. Personal motives of player characters factor big into storytelling. I have 3 fully rolled up characters ready to go that anyone can jump in and start playing, or I can walk you through building a new character before our session this week. Knowledge of Lord of the Rings is helpful... but not necessary. Anyone who doesn't know anything at all about LOTR can play as a hobbit -- since they don't know much of the world outside their own homeland, everything they experience on their journey is something new to them. Check out the game page to see session times, let me know if you want in this week to try it out. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/5616190/the-marsh-bells-tor
Hey there, Eli. I run a small, private discord community where I GM multiple game systems for my friends (it's all free). I'm a GM of 15+ years who plays to find out what happens. My favorite systems are Burning Wheel, Blades in the Dark (Scum and Villainy too), Monster of the Week, Apocalypse World, Savage Worlds, Barbarians of Lemuria, Fate Core, and many others. I'm currently running a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign and I'm seeking new players. I run this campaign with heavy Blades in the Dark elements (faction status, holdings, heat, and entanglements) and a few Burning Wheel elements (goals based advancement). I put a heavy emphasis on cooperative lore-building and maintaining a serious tone. I'm forming a group that plays Wednesday mornings (PST), and a group that plays Tuesdays nights (PST). Let me know if you're interested in joining us.
