[LFP][D&D 5E] Looking for players interested in playing a fantasy one shot.

I am a DM and I've created a one shot I'd like to DM. I'm still getting used to Roll20. This is a fantasy setting. Here's the pitch: The Far West holds many mysteries and treasures. Rumors swirl of marble cities hidden in desert sands, pyramids in tropical rainforests, rolling green countryside, ancient fortresses on sheer mountain faces, underground mazes, and grand cities with roofs of gold. Whether these stories are true or tall tales, you’re not sure. You’ve never been far West.  Ships sent West do not often return. What little remains of them wash up on shore. If there are any that do make it, they do not return. Many have speculated why this may be, but no one knows for sure. The Lords of the East spend too much time fighting each other to expend precious resources to chase wive’s tales in the West. The odd search party or adventurer has tried to walk The Western Road and, similarly, has never been heard from again. There are a few who, upon arriving at the outskirts of the forest, turn around. They describe a sense of dread and strange noises coming from the forest. Whether it’s promises of riches, powerful magic, or a pursuit of knowledge - you have all been drawn to an inn near the mountains; a soldier’s inn that serves as a resting spot for Fort Scalder. You stick out like a sore thumb and so does every other person in this tavern who isn’t stationed at Fort Scalder. These soldiers aren’t talkative to outsiders. You find yourself and a few other strangers huddled around the same wooden table. “A round of ale for everyone on me!” Yells a newly promoted soldier, tossing a bag of gold coins to the innkeeper. The sole barmaid slides mugs of ales to each of you before moving on to the next table. Introduce yourselves.
I'm interested. When are you running this? Any rules for character creation?
Kelvin said: I'm interested. When are you running this? Any rules for character creation? Awesome! As soon as possible. I don't want you to start on a character until we have enough people - I know it's time consuming
I love the pitch! If timing allows I'd love to join these poor and desperate souls on the edge of the known!
Hi Kevin, Great pitch! Sounds interesting and I bet it could be a lot of fun, but before committing I'd like to bombard you with a few questions if I may. Quick background on me, I'm in the EST timezone and have been playing D&D for a long time, I've always been the DM for our group of friends so this would be my first time as a player. I currently DMing for 2 groups on Roll20 and I think at least one player may want to tag along with me if that's acceptable to you. Anyway, my questions: 1. Do you have an idea of what day / time this group would be playing? 2. Would the group be starting at 1st level? 3. Is there an estimate how long it would take to complete the one-shot assuming we're successful? 4. You mention you're still getting used to Roll20, have you created maps for your module or will it be "theater of the mind"? No rush on the answers and thanks for your time. Frank.

Glad to hear you're interested! 1.) My next several weekends are booked unfortunately so the soonest I'd be able to run this one shot if the weekend is the only time players can make it is Saturday August 8th. I will be on the East Coast so sometime in the afternoon or evening EST would be best for me but I am flexible. If next Thursday evening PST works for everyone, I can do that as well. 2.) The group will be starting at level 5. To compensate for starting at level 5, I would like for players to have a general idea of who their characters are and how they got to the expertise they're at currently. 3.) I've run a version of this one shot before and this is an expansion on it. I'm not quite certain how much more time the expansion would take. I'm guesstimating somewhere between the 3-5 hour mark. If, however, we several hours in and I detect that it isn't likely we'll finish within that time frame - I'll let the players know and we can decide if we want to turn it into a two-shot or keep going until the one-shot ends. Either option would be good for me. 4.) I'm in the process of creating maps. I already have a large regional map, a small regional map, and currently creating a couple battlemaps that would be used for players to get an idea of where they are. I don't believe I'll have a map for everything, but I will have a map at the ready for most situations.

Since it seems like we're going to have enough players, I'll give you a groundwork of the character creation necessary: - characters cannot be evil - characters will start at level 5 - characters must have a backstory of at least one paragraph. Additional paragraphs beyond the one will see your character awarded 5 gp with a maximum of 20 gp total that you can spend on equipment and gear prior to the start of the game.
Hi I am looking for a group to play with and this sounds fun but what books are we aloud to use for our race for this one shot character and I am a 2 year experienced player on D&D Thursday would work best for me and my friend Frank. So best starting for me would be around 5:00pm or 4:00pm. Please get back to me really excited for this one shot and my first one shot. I LOVE D&D.

You may use the player's handbook to create your character. If you have a really good idea for a character in one of the supplementary materials - run it by me and we'll see what we can work with.
Alright everyone! All those who have messaged me privately and those who have replied to my thread are considered to be on the list for the one shot thus far. Currently that means all spots are filled. If there are any changes to that, I'll update the thread and let anyone still interested know.
So should we start making our character's or wait until we play?

I'd like to know when you plan to schedule this game as that's the only time I can tell if I am able to play or not.
What Thursday where you talking about so I can suggest what time to start playing meaning PST time.
I could do either Thursday the 30th or Saturday August 8th. I would prefer the 30th if at all possible, as I'll be travelling around the 8th and may not have all my usual equipment (the good wi-fi and microphones etc..).  I'm in PST (UTC-8), but I'm not working at the moment so I can be flexible on the exact timing! Look forward to meeting you all!
I would agree, Thursday, July 30th, would be better for me as well (and Jonathan). I do DM Roll20 games every Saturday & Thursday, but I can easily reschedule my Thursday game to do your one-shot. As far as the PST timezone that won't be a problem either as I'm fine staying up late, I'll just nap a couple hours during the day Thursday.
Thursday the 30th is what I was referring to. I'm currently on PST as well. I would prefer sometime in the evening or night.
Where do we  make our character?
Jonathan M. said: Where do we  make our character? For now you can make them in DnD beyond or on paper, on Tuesday I will add you all to the Roll20 game module and you can input your characters from there
Good to know thank you see you Thursday.
Ok guys I am playing a 5th level light Cleric.
When you know what you are playing please type it in the thread so we know what we need in our group. So that way we have a really good group.
I sent everyone a link via PM. If you still haven't received it, check your PM's or PM me
