I am a DM and I've created a one shot I'd like to DM. I'm still getting used to Roll20. This is a fantasy setting. Here's the pitch: The Far West holds many mysteries and treasures. Rumors swirl of marble cities hidden in desert sands, pyramids in tropical rainforests, rolling green countryside, ancient fortresses on sheer mountain faces, underground mazes, and grand cities with roofs of gold. Whether these stories are true or tall tales, you’re not sure. You’ve never been far West. Ships sent West do not often return. What little remains of them wash up on shore. If there are any that do make it, they do not return. Many have speculated why this may be, but no one knows for sure. The Lords of the East spend too much time fighting each other to expend precious resources to chase wive’s tales in the West. The odd search party or adventurer has tried to walk The Western Road and, similarly, has never been heard from again. There are a few who, upon arriving at the outskirts of the forest, turn around. They describe a sense of dread and strange noises coming from the forest. Whether it’s promises of riches, powerful magic, or a pursuit of knowledge - you have all been drawn to an inn near the mountains; a soldier’s inn that serves as a resting spot for Fort Scalder. You stick out like a sore thumb and so does every other person in this tavern who isn’t stationed at Fort Scalder. These soldiers aren’t talkative to outsiders. You find yourself and a few other strangers huddled around the same wooden table. “A round of ale for everyone on me!” Yells a newly promoted soldier, tossing a bag of gold coins to the innkeeper. The sole barmaid slides mugs of ales to each of you before moving on to the next table. Introduce yourselves.
