Roll20 map speaker over writes the discord chat

My group likes to talk through discord and use Roll20 maps. We have been doing this for years and it has worked just fine. Now though when I have a Roll20 map open and I'm in the game, the sound of discord suddenly drops and I can't hear them and they can't hear me. If I simply lower Roll20 and click back on Discord, the sound comes right back. This makes switching between the two very awkward. To fix the issue I have tried using different browsers, Chrome and Microsoft Edge. I also tried muting roll20 and blocking the mic in the settings of the page. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling discord. All have had no impact on the issue. Really not sure what to do at this point.

Hi Colin, Just checking; Does the game creator/GM have video and voice completely disabled in roll20? Each player will also have an option to disable if the GM has v&v enabled. https://wiki.roll20.net/Video_and_Voice_Chat#Enabling.2FDisabling_Video_and_Voice_for_an_Entire_Game
I disabled it on my side, but never checked with them since it was just impacting me. I will suggest it to them.

I'm fairly confident that if you are using Discord for voice/vid, roll20 voice/vid should be disabled. Hopefully that will solve your audio conflict.
Okay, I was able to test it with discord and it was better, but discord constantly cut in and out like it was struggling to break through. Far to on and off to run a game properly through.

The only time our group has had an issue with discord while using roll20 is when one player had a poor connection. They were the only one that sounded like they were cutting in/out to the group. Reconnecting to roll20 and discord in-session would help, but eventually they were only able to solve it by increasing their isp speed. Does it happen when using both chrome and ff? Are you using the stand alone discord app or are you connecting in-browser? You might need to open a help ticket with roll20 https://roll20.net/help

I cannot run Discord voice on the same Mac Mini that I run Roll20 on, because of the long-running CPU & GPU overload an active Roll20 tab causes. So I run Discord voice on a separate device, usually a MacBook, but in dire circumstances an iPad or Pixel phone.
I have been using the discord app on my computer and my browser. I have not tried directly through the discord website. That's worth a go.

I have run into problems with using Discord for audio if I use the web app. If I run a silenced Roll20 in the browser, and use the actual Discord App for audio, I generally get much better results (M1 Mac Mini)
This is my experience as well using a Windows PC (Windows 10, 22H2). When playing, I normally have Roll20 in two browser tabs, another tab open for quick Google searches, and the Discord desktop app in a separate window. I rarely have audio problems. We don't use video at all because one of our players has bandwidth issues, plus we all know what we look like :) One of my players uses a Mac and cannot use the Discord web app with Roll20 at all. (He has an older Mac; I don't know what model but it's at least 5 years old. keithcurtis said: I have run into problems with using Discord for audio if I use the web app. If I run a silenced Roll20 in the browser, and use the actual Discord App for audio, I generally get much better results (M1 Mac Mini)

If I might ask, what is the Mac Mini model? I use an M1, and have never run into the CPU & GPU overload issue, despite trying to max out or measure it on many occasions, and regardless of using Discord or Roll20 V&V. Just collecting data points.
