moving an image (not copying)

Hello, recently I've been unable to move images from the library, after downloading, into folders created to classify them by type of game or universe ... I can copy them into a folder but they remain in the root. When I then delete them from the root, I can no longer manipulate them on the map as I would like. This has happened since I switched my games to the new version of Roll 20 in ‘Jumpgate’. I have the same problem regardless of the type of universe (DND, Chroniques Oubliées Fantasy, Delta Green....).

This isn't a Jumpgate issue; the same behavior has always happened in legacy games as well. It has to do with how Roll20 organizes handles the art library. Images aren't actually "copied" to the folders that you create, the "Copy to Folder" command only creates a link in your folder to to the image in the "Recently Uploaded" folder, which acts like a "root" folder. Deleting the image from the "root" breaks the link in your created folder. Also, any instances of the deleted image on your maps, character sheets, handouts, etc. will disappear when the image cache refreshes. It's best that once you organize those image links in your created folder to just ignore the "Recently Updated" list other than to access uploaded images before organizing them. Please add your vote to this suggestion asking for a better way to organize the art library: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/10271718/slug%7D Edit: Added link to the suggestion thread

Also, at the top of the Recent Uploads list is a filter button. You can use that to show or hide images that have been moved into sub-folders. With the filter turned on, the behavior of the Art Library is closer to what you would expect. FWIW, this is really no different from how your computer's files system operates behind the scenes. It's just a little more explicit in the Art Library.
That's true, but with Windows/Mac/Unix (I've no experience with any others OSs) file management can be done within user and system created folders while keeping the actual file table invisible to the user. The simplistic UI used by Roll20's art library is confusing to just about everybody, as evidenced by how often this question comes up. (Naming the commands "Copy to Folder" and "Copy to Library" instead of something like "Link File to Folder" doesn't help. This is especially frustrating to old farts like me who were trained to neatly organize our files within directory structures. These newfangled "folders" and files with hidden extensions; why back in my day ... :D keithcurtis said: FWIW, this is really no different from how your computer's files system operates behind the scenes. I totally agree. That's why I referred to it as "more explicit". I think the whole right sidebar needs some attention. That filter button will make the experience less confusing, though.
