Map Pins are now in Open Beta and available to EVERYONE, no subscription required!!

curious if a feature like this will be possible down the road The ability to, instead or reading the pin on the map - there is a DM button that gives us few options: 1) When in private - DM Only Button - Send to Chat - whispered to GM only 2) When in Private - DM Only Button - Send to Chat - To players 3) When pin is public - Player has a button - Send to chat - whispered to player self Sometimes, we have tons of handout / sheets open, it would be nice to read stuff from chat with less clutter in our screen.

Hey Novercallis! I'm not sure if this meets your needs, but I just posted a short script that does a lot of this , at least for custom pins.
Poderia usar de alguma customização extra, mas ótima adição!
Richard T. said: If we can't edit the default text placed in pins, then allow us to have at least 700 characters to use under "custom". 300 is not nearly enough. Seconded! More/unlimited characters for the custom note would be killer.
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the continued feedback during the Map Pin beta! Today, we’ve made one of your top requests available: more customization options! Here’s what can be found in the Customization tab of the Pin Settings Menu: Available to all users (in addition to existing Size options) - Color customization: choose from a quick menu, color picker, or enter a hex code - Text labels: add up to 3 alphanumeric characters as a symbol on your pins (great for room codes: A11, F5, etc.) Advanced Customization Available to Pro & Elite subscribers - Shape options: circle, diamond, or square options - Symbol library: icons for different location types - Custom images: upload a custom min marker (including animated!), or drag and drop an existing upload or marketplace token from your library Customization isn't available to the API quite yet, but it will be soon! As part of today’s release, we’ve also made some other quality-of-life improvements: We’ve also enhanced the “Go to Pin” GM navigation feature, previously found exclusively within handouts that contained Header/Anchor pins. Now, right-click any handout in your journal that has an associated pin (or associated Header/Anchor pins) to see "Go to Pin"/”Go to Header Pin” options. These center your view on the associated pin. (This doesn't move players, just your view (pair it with Party Tools for moving the party)). Added the ability to transmogrify pins (resulting in an orphaned pin) Made "Drag to create pin," "Header Link" and "Go to Pin" controls on Handout headers accessible when tabbing on a handout Made tooltip updated to 1) scale height for text and 2) maintaining width when switching between GM Notes and Player notes tabs We're continuing to work on other requests, including bulk editing capabilities, default pins, and more. Full details in our latest blog post : https://blog.roll20.net/posts/map-pins-customization
Been using this feature and it has helped my organize my map information significantly. Thank you for adding wanted features and keep up the good work.

This is above-and-beyond delivery! As soon as the API tools are exposed, I have some cool plans for these new features.

Added the ability to transmogrify pins (resulting in an orphaned pin) Made a copy of a game that had a bunch of pins on the map and they all appeared on the copied game! So not only can you transmogrify a page, we can set up the entire campaign in our DM only version and copy it over for official tables!
Advanced Customization is a great improvement. It's something I've been looking forward to, but I'm disappointed it's not available for Plus users. I really hope you'll rethink this.
Je trouve dommage que cette option ne soit proposée qu’aux comptes Pro et Élite, surtout pour les utilisateurs Plus qui soutiennent déjà la plateforme.

There are only parts of the customization that have been monetized. Pin Color and Symbol Text (up to three characters on a pin), are open to all.

Advanced customization has a dashed or solid border which is ... not ideal. I was hoping to make a search-and-find object game by hiding small map pins with clues, but the border to image map pins makes that not possible currently, and there was no place to turn this off or change the color to transparent.
Hi Pat - the dashed border indicates the pin is hidden from players. In the cases where you as GM see a dashed boarder, your players wouldn't see the pin at all. Please let me know in case I'm missing the mark on what you're looking to do here. The border will not show. Also, the color picker supports rgba color, if that's of any help. You can add a percentage as the last two digits in the code and use this to define the level of opacity. In this case, the border will show.

When I un-hide it, it still has a square blue border that I can't remove. I am not inexperienced, so I've been testing with it and found the following: I'm using an asset from the library of items I've bought from the marketplace. I chose a transparent PNG I moved it to player visible When selected, it has a blue border. Is there a way to turn this off?

Otherwise, I'll just make do with what's there.

I'm also really disappointed about this :/ it's starting to feel really sad to see more and more and more content directly blocked behind paywall inside the "main" features, and I hope I'm wrong but the addition of the "Elite" subscription sometimes looks like "hey, Plus is not a thing anymore !" :( adding this just after make a big announce like "MAP PIN IS FOR EVERYONE" make me salty...

AFAIK, there is no way to select an object without invoking the selection interface.

You can just use tokens as map pins like I've been doing for a few years now and have beautiful looking map pins with whatever art work you want. Just give them a name plate and add tool tip text and your players will get text when they mouse over them. Zero reason to pay for this. It's pretty much a nonfeature at this point.

Gotta disagree, here. I pretty much helped pioneer the use of token note "pins", and even wrote the Supernotes and Reporter scripts and edited several pages of the wiki to leverage them. I have totally switched to Map Pins for most uses. They can do so much more, are easier for players to use, can update from a central source, allow quick switching of maps, and a lot more. The stuff just released is nice to have, and certainly can make for a prettier or easier to-read map, but the basic advantages I listed are available even to free users.

"ff" would be around "99.4"

Almost none of that is anything I need/wanted. Maybe it would have been nice to have player editable pins and more intuitive process than using tokens, but I don't play D&D and we don't often need to use battle maps and move tokens around on the map. All I want is beautiful looking city/country/region maps with pins and some info and just using tokens gives me that without having to pay more than I already have. Custom art was pretty much the only feature I've been waiting on for pins, but it's not worth more money than I'm already paying. It's not like I haven't ponied up cash already. In fact, jumpgate asides, this is the first new thing roll20 has done in forever that I actually cared about, but they locked out the one feature I needed to a higher tier. Maybe it's time to play around with foundry again this weekend... I've already done this before map pins were implemented. Great looking map with tool tips for extra info. Anyone can make a nice map like that at the free level if you just use tokens.

That's fair feedback. Plus gives you awesome features like Dynamic Lighting, but I understand you'd prefer to see pin image uploads in that tier as well. Our intent here was to make sure everyone could access Map Pins, providing more than enough functionality to use them without ever paying extra. Then, they can decide whether the advanced features were important enough to consider upgrading to a tier that unlocked other similar features (customization/automation-focused). That said, your feedback about Plus is noted and I'll make sure it reaches the right team.
I'd like the ability to adjust the size of the tooltip image when using the custom option. Currently the image size can only be adjusted when using the image from a linked handout.

I love the new pins, but some things are noticeably lacking among the icons and symbols you can select from. I just started brainstorm one that would be good for a world or regional map, ones that would be useful on a city/village map. And ones that might be useful for whatever. I came with a lot, definitely an unreasonable amount, but I bolded the ones I felt would be more useful. Landscape : tree (pine & rounded), trees, dead/leafless tree, bush, log, stump, flower, rose, volcano , mountain snow-capped mountain, hill, waves, river (could double as a path/trail) , pit, Buildings/Settlements : castle , keep, wood watchtower, city , walled city, manor house, farmhouse/barn, hut , huts, mine , lighthouse , windmill , water well, outhouse, prison (bars), ruined/crumbling tower , ruined house, ruins/ rubble, tent ( small & large) , tents (like an encampment) , circus tent, arena/colosseum, pyramid, Meso-American step pyramid, E astern shrine (torii gate, pagoda), Stonehenge, monolith, Greek temple (like the parthenon), Points of Interest : dungeon door (door with an arched stone frame), dungeon entrance (arched stone frame with a darkened doorway), magic portal , gravestone , campfire , Transport : boat , canoe, raft, ship, airship, shipwreck, wagon, covered wagon, train engine, Establishments : bed, crossed pick & hammer (mining tools or adventuring gear) , merchant stall , potion , wand , spell book, clothing (shirt), theater mask(s) , Food : bottle , bowl of soup/food, coffee/tea mug (w/ steam), wine glass/chalice, bread, wheat, corn, apple, grapes, hot pepper, drumstick, coffee bean, fork/knife symbol, Weapons/Armor : crossed swords , bow and arrow , armor , shield , axe, crossed spears, Musical Instruments : lute/guitar , flute, drum with drumsticks, musical note, Religious : pentacle/pentagram, Christian cross, star and crescent, Star of David, Ohm symbol, Yin Yang, Dharma wheel (which also looks like a ship's wheel), Creature : paw print , horse , a fish , bird , chicken, sheep, cow, pig, cat, dog, wolf, dragon , insect, spider, monster head (goblin-like, demon-like), generic person (torso & head), Miscellaneous : coin(s) , money bag, gem(s) , crystal(s) , flame , cloud, gas/fumes, water droplet, wheelchair, toilet, crystal ball, hourglass, and i (information symbol).
A few comments/suggestions to improve the pins: The icons/symbols should be larger, and fill up more of the shape. For instance, the tower symbols feel like they use the space fairly well, but most have far too much empty space between the symbol and the shape. Which means you have to zoom in to see them clearly, not very helpful on larger maps. It'd be great to be able to remove the outer shape and just place the symbol icon. (I realize I can create/upload my own icon art to have borderless pins, but that would be a lot of effort.) The simplest solution from the programing side, but not necessarily the users': If you were able to pick the color of the border (which would be nice), that would allow you to make the border transparent (as you already can with the background) Easiest for the users would probably be the option to turn off the border and/or the background of the pins the edit pin window needs to be longer. Having to scroll down every time I want to set a custom color is a pain. Thanks so much for all your work!
