Dynamic Lighting Doesn't Hide Tooltips

Seemingly the only way to hide enemies in a room players can't see due to lighting is to put those tokens on the GM layer. If they're on the token layer the enemy is invisible but their tooltip can be seen readily by just mousing over the invisible token. This being the case, you can't really let the lighting system do its full intended job because you are forced to hide tokens on the GM layer and reveal them or let players accidentally discover there's an enemy in a section of the map they've never been to before. I tried making sure visibility/edit was off for the status bar, even disabled aura editing, made sure it's associated with a character not in their journal that they can't control. None of it worked.
Do all  of your NPCs have tooltips? Tooltip visibility can be set to  "GM Only". Kinjiru said: I tried making sure visibility/edit was off for the status bar, even disabled aura editing, made sure it's associated with a character not in their journal that they can't control. None of it worked.
They do. I want the tooltips to be visible to players with the names of the enemies they face. But I don't want those tooltips visible if the enemy isn't at all visible currently.

Hi Kinjiru! You can toggle the player visibility of the tooltips with a token-mod macro, perhaps. You could also look into the Bump script if moving to the GM layer is preferable.

Kinjiru, you mentioned that you are using tooltips to show "the names of the enemies they face". Have you considered instead using the "nameplate" feature? Unlike the tooltip, the nameplate is hidden if the token with the name is not visible to the viewing PC's token(s). Edit the Name field of the NPC token be the name that is currently in your tooltip (while the name defaults to the name from the NPC character sheet, it can be edited, which you might want to do if the token represents an NPC who name known to the PCs differs from the "true" name on the character sheet). Then click on the "three dot" button in "General" section and enable "See" for  "Player Permissions".

You can also set nameplates to only display on hover, if you wish. That is also controlled by Dynamic Lighting. If you are interested at all in getting started with scripts (there's tons of "plug and play" stuff, here's an introductory video .
OK the nameplate works fine, thanks to you both!
I used both nameplates (as intended to show names of things) and tooltips (for simple descriptions of objects/creatures of interest) extensively when setting up my current campaign, and also ran into this same issue in my last session when my players discovered they could mouse all over the dark areas of the map and see mild spoilers galore. :(  It's pretty burdensome to have to toggle these on for every token as the players uncover them and in dense rooms you're surely going to miss ticking a few boxes on a few tokens in the heat of running a session. Is there a reason why tooltips should not function like all the other token elements' visibility in terms of dynamic lighting (i.e. the expectation is they are not visible to the player unless the player has vision of the associated token)? This definitely feels like a bug that should be fixed.
I just cross posted this to Suggestions, please upvote it to get some attention on the issue!&nbsp;<a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12685453/dynamic-lighting-should-hide-tooltips-when-tokens-are-not-visible-to-a-player/?pageforid=12685453#post-12685453" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12685453/dynamic-lighting-should-hide-tooltips-when-tokens-are-not-visible-to-a-player/?pageforid=12685453#post-12685453</a>
