Slow-downs are getting worse

Roll20 has always had a slowness problem, but it seems that in the past couple of month, it has gotten much worse.  Whenever, I tried to edit or change a character or map, I get timed out for about 5 -10 seconds.  Roll20 just freezes before it accepts my change (which could be as simple as just typing).  I have tried Chrome and Firefox.  I have tried it on multiple computers.   It may not sound like much, but when you are in a game, those little 5-10 second slowdowns add up to a huge amount of frustration and lost time.
I have this a lot with the spells list in the compendium.  I have a lot of shared content so when I or one of my players levels up a spell caster it takes ages for the compendium to load them all. 5E, 2014 rules list, all of my spell caster users with various browsers.
In my experience, it depends on the day. In some game sessions, the stars align and the VTT works as if everything is was working off our local drives and RAM. On other days, some of my players are experiencing lag and graphics oddities while everything works for me. An yet on another day it's the opposite. On the days where we do have problems the issues tend to start out slow and get worse the longer we play.
