We gave Google Hangouts a try tonight and it worked amazingly well. It was the best connection we've had in ages, and even with everyone remote (it was just a single fight to shake out the system), things went smoother than we could have expected. Call me a convert to Google Hangouts. Oh, and I discovered one interesting work-around for the lost real-estate problem. After setting up a Google Hangout, I went back to my Roll20 home page and opened up my campaign as normal. That gave me the campaign page without Roll20. Of course, I didn't have anyone's image, though I still had sound through the other window, and that's what I cared about most. So if you're willing to only hear the others in your game, you can recapture that lost real estate.
