"Not until the auctioneer raises the minimum bid for me," says the Concubine slave that Senior Scout Gevaudan is trying to usher onto the stage. Later in life, during and after the Collapse, Gev took up Concubine slaving by transporting Concubines back to the Society of Equals and civilization, away from the untamed and lawless Wilds. In the Dzen Aeng Kho (tr: Society of Equals), slaves can earn their freedom or be emancipated by the courts if mistreated.
When Garrison Highport Station failed three times to answer a hail, the crew of the Ares suits up for the worst case scenario. Here, in his quarters, Senior Scout Gevaudan tries on his new Teleportation Suit to go under his Hazardous Environment VaccSuit. The new garment eases temperature, pressure and inertia changes from his jaunts (as his Instructor called them). Will the psionic Talent come in handy during the away team to the orbital station?
As part of her contract with Kfan Uzangou, the Vargr magazine, the Dame reluctantly must model for an annual holoshoot for the Swimsuit Issue. Here we find her on a beach, with a Darrian transparent towel. Witness, the magazine's robot, records both live and stills of the Dame for editing later by the magazine. Note the checkered patterns and stripes of the pieces she wears. Vargr vision is different from human sight. Garish or clashing colors that humans find painful are attractive to Vargr. Despite her contractual agreements, she does have a say of who is on the site for such a revealing expose: Witness, Uthka Varzeekh, Prof. Isis and and the Dame's younger brother Gevaudan, (for added security during the holoshoot).
Senior Scout Gevaudan Cannagrrh returns to Darrian, further Augmented with bio- and cybernetics that will allow him to control most aspects of Starship Operation by jacking into the ship's computer on the bridge. How will his elder sister react to his reduced Vargr racial purity and increased 'chrome'?
"No one can choose their species to enter this Universe. Chosen by the Ancients, the Vargr can be chosen as your way to Enlightenment and exit from the unchanging and crystallized ways and cultures you had the misfortune to be inborn. Let the Church of The Chosen Ones be your pack Alphas to greatness!"
"The Aslan Ancestors can help us living sons and daughters, Darrian and Aslan, help this world. Only through embracing our honored elders' ways can we avoid unnecessary hurdles of tomorrow."
"Another Maghiz will come of the Star Trigger. It is only a matter of when. Follow us to return to the shelter for when the Maghiz returns by Daryen folly. Zamine must prepare."
"These pre-Maghiz starships - excuse me - these Minds on board the vessels of our Darrian ancestors have had all this time, thinking and realizing at TL16 computing speeds, to contemplate our universe and Darrian possible futures. If that isn't a singularity of consciousness, then we Darrians must help them to help us. Join The Fleet and see what the Hero Vessels can offer you."
"Sheltered by gracious Darrians hundreds of years ago during the Psionic Suppression of the early 800s, we Scions of Imperium-born Psions wish to return that favor - without the loss of individuality and free will that the Thought Policed Zhodani to Coreward would shackle Darrians and Imperium alike. Join the Scions today. There is another Frontier that can be explored."
A frost-hearted female before her satellite, Witness, the Dame Qithka Cannagrrh nevertheless sprang into a state of alarm to hear of her brother's disappearance to Laberv system.
In the 1130s, Gev engaged in slaving during the Virus era, mainly to migrate the poor (albeit enslaved) out of the Wilds and into the safe boundaries of the Society of Equals in Gvurrdon Sector where slavery is legal and upwardly mobile.
In those days of the Virus era, Gevaudan was no sexist in whom he 'rescued'. Here we see a male up for sale, clearly angry to be ordered to show the wares. Note the Society of Equals crest of two upper canines on a red field prominent on his kilt.
After the harsh criticism of his elder sister, Dame Qithka and the dismissive reaction from the Darrian Envoy, Gev again contemplates the wisdom of his cybernetics rig. Has he indeed gone too far trans-Vargr?
Some Vargr are favored by Humaniti purely because they stand further upright, have less lupine characteristics or adopt human clothing or grooming. Assimilated Imperial Vargr are one such ethnicity. Amdukan Sector Irilitok of the Julian Protectorate are another.
Gevaudan rises in the ship's morning and is already checking in on the vessel's systems via his Ship Systems Integration cybernetics. Jokingly called names like umbilical, the cord or the leash, crew marvel at the territorial behavior of the Pilot-Astrogator.
Sneaky image-capture this one of new guy, the Impy Vargr Marine. Resume says he fight in Regina and Lanth. Offer up a smoke but this one not smoker. Name's Kayleb, but Impies call him Runt for some reason.
I'm waiting for the day when Kayleb "theatrically" lifts his helmet visor to light up a cigarette - only to have his lungs sucked out by the vacuum of space or his face melt off because of some insidious atmosphere. I tend to forget stuff like that.
Uthka Varzeekh stands vigil over the Comms Board on the Bridge of the Ares. She is adamant that signaling SOS, Mayday, Signal-GK or other distress will mean more death and distruction. Much of my art tells or helps tell a story. View it much like a movie poster at your local theatre. Sometimes there are clues in my art that directly apply to the story. Be watchful.
