UPDATES & ANNOUNCEMENTS

I have placed a map of the world on the tabletop down in the bottom left corner.  You should be able to coordinate your movements and explorations here.  If you are in an exploration team you should sign up with the menbers of your team in the journal and then use the corresponding token to place your location on the map.  I know some groups plan to stop on hexes between weeks so we need to know where you are.  You can also include your parties movement in the handout for your team.   I also plan to link the hexes to open the forums to that hex page for easier posting.  I will also be creating team threads for each exploration group that you can use to coordinate and figure out your results before your official post on the hex forum page.  I hope this will make things easier.  
I will be putting this somewhere officially later but this is the weekly timeline that is going to work well in the future for making sure we (I) have enough time to update everything and not use up my weekends too much.      Change in slots: Slot 1 will now be the late evening slot EST this will allow 1 more post on missions  Old Slot 1 will become New Slot 2 Old Slot 2 will become New Slot 3  Phase 1 - Monday Slot 1- Friday Slot 1 Missions, Downtime Posts, Exploration Moves & Reports, Building Phase 2 - Friday Slot 2 (9amEST) - Friday Slot 3 (5amEST) Updates, Awards, New Missions, Buildings Activated Phase 3 - Saturday & Sunday Mission Sign-ups, Leveling, Purchases & Trades, Form New Groups So all downtime for next week will be open only until Friday Slot 1  This should be plenty of time for you to do your downtime

Obviously we have some missions still going on and I have updated to make.  We will continue these and they should hopefully end in a couple days.  If you are not currently in a mission please be patient.  I believe after this week we will be on the correct phasing.  For this week I am going to ask that we not have new missions so we can reset and be on time starting next week.   We will finish out all current missions.   To make this up to you I will be offering a live mission sometime during the week and also a few adventure threads.   We will also do some random encounter wandering monster simulations that will earn mp.  So there will still be plenty to do.  We will still do downtime this week and explore and build.  That part should be good to go by the end of today thank you for your patience and understanding.

Updates To Mission Slots & Posting You can post only 1 time per slot when on a mission in COMBAT but you may post as much conversation out of combat in character as you like but the timeline will be moved along by the GM postings only and when combat starts you get 1 post per timeslot unless it is communication. Do Not EXPECT the GM to move the story along every time players post .. but this should allow missions to progress at a faster pace especially for players who post often and will allow clarification from the GM or communication between players.  Hopefully this will be a helpful adjustment.

Procedural Adjustment for NPCS You should choose an NPC from the list or the codex and list is as an ASSET at the store you are assigning it to .. Reskin your NPC and post him in your store as a "welcome" to your NPC - this should be a new post.  you can give role playing to your NPC as it joins your store

BEN is absolutely AWESOME Rusty has tracked his MP and KP! I can't believe I did not think to have you guys do this but this would help SOOO much with making sure people got the awards the KP and MP they need and to avoid duplication.   SO ..I would love for everyone to set this up .. but not in the store page .. You can edit your information as you go along tracking it on the KP and MP tracker page since nothing else is going on that one and you can easily scroll up and validate it .. Rules Clarification added to Downtime Guide CLAIMING A HEX Once a hex is CLAIMED it will be added to the boundary of the closest city at the next update Claiming hexes & Developing them helps the main city in that area grow faster therefore increasing the available purchases in that location. Claiming a Hex REVEALS any missions or quests associated with Developing that hex. Claiming a Hex happens when enough CLAIM points are gained to claim that hex and all required missions (like lairs) are completed Claim Points for a Basic Hex are 10 + 2 per Distance from settlement claiming it Claim Points for a Difficult Hex are +10 Ex. Basic Hex 4 Hexes Away is 18 Claim Points Difficult Hex 1 Hex Away is 21 Claim Points Claiming a hex might be achieved by the Repeatable quest or mission tied to that hex. I have added a line to the Repeatable Quests QUEST TIME/SKILL : X / XX (XX) [XX] EX QUEST TIME/SKILL : 8/Profession (cook) [15] This tells you the time to complete the quest takes 8 hours but if you pass a profession cook check of 15 it will half the time it takes.
Unfortunately we had to deal with a rather unpleasant individual yesterday.  I want to let everyone know that the GM's were notified and I was notified and we were taking steps to remove that individual right before they decided to leave themselves.  If you see this individual return or other like him, please notify a GM immediately.  We are not going to tolerate any individual who disrespects our players or GM's or has such a toxic attitude they cannot do anything but cause problems.  I am a patient person but I have no patience for such blatant disrespect and obnoxious behavior.  These types of players are not welcome here because they are a poison to our community which is very nice so far.  I have enjoyed getting to know all of you over the past month since our pre-launch.  This must be a safe place for all our players and the GM team will work to insure it stays that way.  
I have mentioned it before but we do have some available GM and assistant positions.  You can help out by taking on one of these roles.  The only role that requires running missions (like an actual game GM) is the master of missions.  Maybe you have a special talent that we could use or you have good organizational skills or you are creative. .. we can use you.  PM if you are interested in taking on a position on the team. We are currently looking for Master of Missions, Design, Recruits and Quests as well as many apprentice positions
I have moved the second character slot at 10 KP to 20 KP and have added a cohort slot earned at 10 KP.  Rules for cohorts are as follows and have been added to the KP fracker.  This change was made to 1.  Add cohorts and 2. To make the KP tracker spread out so I can feel free to award even more KP even faster.  I know some of you were looking at the second character slot soon but I think you will find great enjoyment out of your cohort  COHORTS Cohorts are attached to a PC and NOT an account A cohort personally works for a PC and gains a lot of abilities to enchance the game Cohorts are always 2 levels lower than the PC it is assigned to Cohorts level when the PC levels Cohorts can do all the things NPCs can do but they may also accompany a PC on scouting, exploration and may even participate in missions Cohorts may only go on missions if only half or less slots are filled at the start Should a cohort die, the slot reopens but a new cohort is an additional level lower Cohorts gear must be supplied by the PC A cohort never takes a share of treasure Cohorts have a minimum level of 1 so you must have a level 3 PC to assign it to
Cohorts will be created with their own character sheets just like a PC  They will be stored like an animal companion under your PC in the journal  You can use a BLANK to create your cohort cohorts do not need their own inventory sheet since you can add it to yours but may have their own sheet if you would like them to.  
The following has been added to downtime This is a survival game and although meals are annoying to some... here they are! MEALS You must eat 2 meals a day to stay healthy and not go hungry. A meal consists of any food that might provide enough sustenance for you for half a day or so Animals may be killed for meals while some produce their own meals for you weekly (like chickens) Meals can be crafted or bought in town The benefactor provides one free group meal to anyone staying in the outpost Meals can be gathered with survival foraging, magically generated (goodberry) or hunted (deer meat) At the end of each WEEK of downtime you should account for 14 meals for that week DRINKS Drinks must be consumed 3 times a day A drink is any beverage that you might want. It could be ale or water or milk. Some animals give a steady supply of drinks each week (like cows) If you are in a town with a well, you do not have to drink for any day you are in that town. If you are in a hex with a water supply (like oasis) you do not need to drink for that day. Desert hexes require 2x drinks while in them. At the end of each WEEK of downtime you should account for 21 drinks for that week This is a good chance for crafting and role playing the Inn and other type locations .. If this is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE to you to have to track meals and drinks .. you should do the following IGNORE SPECIFICS and Pay 10 gold a week and consider it done. Consequences. Starvation & Dehydration A character can go without water for 1 day plus a number of hours equal to his Constitution score. After this time, the character must make a Constitution check each hour (DC 10, +1 for each previous check + 1 for each of the 14 drinks missed that week up to that point) or take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. Characters that take an amount of nonlethal damage equal to their total hit points begin to take lethal damage instead. A character can go without food for 3 days, in growing discomfort. After this time, the character must make a Constitution check each day (DC 10, +1 for each previous check + 1 for each of the 14 meals missed that week up to that point) or take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. Characters that take an amount of nonlethal damage equal to their total hit points begin to take lethal damage instead. Characters who have taken nonlethal damage from lack of food or water are fatigued . Nonlethal damage from thirst or starvation cannot be recovered until the character gets food or water, as needed—not even magic that restores hit points heals this damage.
We are now in WEEK 2 PHASE 2 We are updating the world for the new week Look for new map, character tokens to move locations if base location changes Look for new missions to be posted shortly.  You may sign up for missions as they appear in the upcoming missions section. If you are new and have posted in the Iron Kelpie AT you will be moved to the island soon but may already post as if you are on the island. PHASE 3 begins slot 3 tonight and lasts all weekend.   PHASE 3 is for character leveling, trading, purchasing, creating NPCs and COHORTS etc. Missions begin SLOT 1 WEEK 3 (Monday Slot 1)
There are now 7 missions posted that you can sign up for.  Missions that are not signed up will remain in upcoming during the week for players to choose another week Remember each PC can sign up for only 1 weekly mission If you have already signed up for a mission and wish to move you can do that until PHASE 1 WEEK 3 Missions will ONLY Run if 1/2 their slots are filled with PCs
It has occurred to me there is probably some confusion about traveling to missions since some of you are on hexes that are far away and etc.  For this week ONLY you should just post 1 downtime for any mission you sign up for.  After this week, in order to do a mission, you must post the travel and mission slot in your downtime log and meet up with your party in town.  For this reason you must START in town to go on your mission as you "party" up and the downtime for the mission will be the first downtime in your log.  Your party should figure out your slowest travel speed and travel to the hex that the mission is posted on.  I am going to post a list of missions that also has their hex locations so you can figure out your route of travel and the time it will take your party.  In order to make things easier for you there is going to be a way to end your turn anywhere on the map and then begin your turn back at the outpost.  This will be revealed this week.  In this way you can explore and do missions .. however, should you choose to continue to explore and not return to the outpost you will not be able to go to missions that week.  
I have updated the NPC information so you can know what your leveling options are for NPCs as you gain KP if you want to keep an NPC but have them level up.  That is found on the NPC listing page 
We are in the process of moving around guides and links and re-writing so new players can have a better understanding of what to do .. please be aware some links are moving around today.
Starting after week 3 you will need to make sure to go on missions you either  1.  Travel from your current hex to the mission hex tracking travel in your downtime log or 2.  Travel from the outpost to the mission hex by grouping up and heading out to the mission I have provided an easy way for you to be able to explore and then return back to the outpost at the end of the week. This is the Honing Stones that each of you have now received and should add to your inventory. A description of the stones can be found in the  BNW items thread and the story behind them in the  Watched Adventure Thread Have fun with your new toy but be sure to PM me every time you decide to use one because I may have a surprise in store for you.
Tomorrow begins phase 1 week 3.  As mission setups are finished you may start writing in them but they will not launch until tomorrow.  Remember that you can post as much as you like in a mission thread out of combat but only the GM will advance major time amounts and change your location. When we go into combat rounds will be in slots.  Gms will try and advance the stories with every slot but remember that tomorrow is a holiday and some gms may sleep in some so thank you in advance for your patience and good luck with the missions this week. We will have some live missions this week that you may look forward to. I believe Todd will run one wed night and I may be able to continue the hidden cairn on Thursday night.  We are looking forward to some restructuring and updates coming along during the week as well to better explain all the crazy!  See you tomorrow adventurers!
I know roll 20 is having a few issues .. continue to post in the mission threads and we will move them along at the pace of post until things are back to normal .. GM's .. try and fast forward your groups to the locations by Tue Night / Wed Morning and get into combats by then at least. Hopefully everyone will be posting and the threads will be moving along and already there by then. 
Don't forget about claimed points .. claiming will add to the border of influence of the settlement and also allow the next set of hexes to be claimed.  Hexes cannot be claimed unless adjacent hexes are claimed first.  Claim points are gained through the hex missions and through the repeatable quests.  If you want more kingdom missions you will need to claim more hexes because kingdom missions will form in new border hexes as the border of influence expands outward.   Just something to think about ..  As it is .. a main focus should probably be in getting the buildings done so you can upgrade the outpost to a thorp which will raise your purchasing power/limits as well as provide some random items and some new npcs. I have tried some other roll 20 accounts .. I am going to ask that everyone log out tonight when you are done / go to bed.  I would like to empty out the room and maybe roll 20 can reset as well and that may fix some issues .. So for tonight only .. don't leave yourself logged in when you leave to let our campaign "rest"  not sure it will fix anything but .. who knows.. 
no worries ben  .. i'm just curious if it empties out completely if there is any effect on resetting the game .. but it probably does nothing.  I think roll 20 will be resetting for an update soon anyhow.

We would like to welcome Amy to the GM team who will be taking on Master of Beasts Kirby will be moving to Master of Recruits (Thanks Kirby!) You probably noticed the  building forum thread to list the buildings built and under construction.   I hope this is another helpful tool to put everything in one place The same thing will be happening to stores soon as well.    We are also looking at an update to crafting that you will be very excited about! At this time .. I need to know if buildings that are under construction are missing or if other rooms are missing so post in there are let me know This is updated through the end of this week already and this will become the official log for week 3 buildings. Remember I need the building name and the list of all rooms, even the ones you have not completed so I can set up the entire building checklist. Thanks for your help with this.
Death has come to our Brave New World.  I would like to take a moment to announce NOT 1 but 2 character deaths .. in the same round an anklyosaurus confirmed a critical attack against Viggo and Harold.  The damage was so extensive and their death swift.  This is proof how dangerous this world is but with death comes new life!  We look forward to seeing your next characters!  Read up on what to do when you die .. You don't have to lose all your hard work completely!  Keep in mind these brave warriors were on a challenge mission and this sort of thing is bound to happen from time to time.

Live Mission Tonight 730 EST Return to the Hidden Cairn
Updates may have to be delayed, at least on my end until tomorrow.   I have lost power and I do not know when I will get it back. We have an ice storm where I live.  I can do some minor posting but when my phone dies that's it for me.   Maybe the other gms will be able to do some of the updates
In order to make the phases and player actions make more sense and to make it easier on all players and GM's we are making some big changes this week.  Thank you for your patience as these updates have taken longer than usual due to power outages on my end .. but here we go We hope these changes significantly decrease load issues and load times as well as organize the weeks more clearly. THE ISLAND The island now has a name .. Iss Issachar has named the island because he was the first to explore 10 hexes. PHASES We are now going to have 5 phases over a 2 week period.  These 5 phases will have very specific allowed activities and GMs will be updating behind each phase so it is important you complete phase activities when they are appropriate Each phase will have a map associated with it.  ALL PLAYERS (Not New Players) will be moved to each map as each phase unfolds New players will have their own map - The Iron Kelpie Phases will take place over a TWO WEEK period with updates happening behind each phase.   Leveling will NOW be available at the end of each phase instead of only at the end update. Cohorts and NPCs gained with KP will be automatically added to the town (no need to wait for the ship) Crafted Items during the exploration phase will be available for the building phase for trade and purchase Weekly updates have become phase updates to spread the work out and make it much easier for the GMs to get it done. The cycle to go through the 5 phases will take 2 weeks. Cycles start Sunday (today) Phase 1 = Updates, Cycle day 1-2  Phase 2 = Missions, Cycle day 3-8 Phase 3 = Exploration, Cycle day 9-10 Phase 4 = Building,  Cycle day 11-12 Phase 5 = Event, Cycle day 13-14 DOWNTIME During each 5 week cycle players will have downtime slots based on the month in game. We are currently in cycle phase 1.  You should see this on the vtt unless you are new.  If you are new you should have a GM move you to the iron kelpie map.  During this phase you should sign up for missions this cycle.  These will begin Tuesday.  You will see the map change and tokens added but may post in response to the setups Monday night once they are added.   The phases are not designed to restrict you but give a clear outline so progress happens smoothly.  If you know you are going to be unable to complete what you need during a phase you can make an unofficial log and then adjust it during each phase.  I certainly would not mind this but realize they are subject to change.  It is important that you do not post building changes or items in stores or adjust your KP/mp except to reflect up to the current phase.  Do not post results of exploration in your official log or hexes except during those phases.  You can create and use an unofficial log if you feel this helps you stay organized    You can link this to your official downtime page.

Starting This Cycle BB for MP costs 2 per x CL  This adjustment was made because we went from 5 to 10 mp required per level It also gives a little shifting to allow BB to go a little further so levels 1-3 can be more easily earned through BB for new characters/ character death
I have been working hard to flesh out GM positions and responsibilities   I have provided clear instruction (i hope) for what GMs should do during each of the 5 phases I have collapsed and combined some roles. This should greatly reduce the stress and keep the updates moving through each cycle. We will be appointing all GM and apprentice positions in game GM status Apprentices will work with the Master of that position now to get that update work completed. Please PM me if you are interested in taking on a roll of GM or Apprentice.   The award is 10 BB per week for Master (Awarded by the Overlord) and 5BB for Apprentice (awarded by the Master) you can see the slots we have available on the  GM Responsibilities Thread .

We have now moved to PHASE 2 You may post in your mission threads if your mission has been set up You can get to your missions from the VTT journal or the mission lists from forum navigation If you are new and on the Iron Kelpie, you will be taking a training mission soon.   Probably to start tomorrow
CHARACTER UPDATES Missions that do not have active postings for level 1 (this happens) will now use "the Militia" pregen characters run by GMs to fill the gaps Hopefully having gone through the Iron Kelpie training mission to get to the island will help eliminate players who get to the island and bail for whatever reason but this is still going to be an issue at times for level 1 missions.  I would hope higher level missions would only have invested players signing up for them.  Running a Pregen in a mission will reward you 1 MP and the treasure (it will be level 1 treasure though) for that mission.  All Pregens will be level 1.  If you would like to create a pregen for this please  PM Ian and he will send you your assignment. Creating a Primary Character NOW READS 1. Create a character using the rules listed in the character creation thread 2. Input your character information in your journal on the VTT 3. Go to the Character Sheets Page and Post your request for help or audit when done. 3. Post your character introduction in the introduction thread.
