I could be okay with Gatesgarth; assuming the idea that there might be food is a valid one. Would Syvil know?

There is food in Gatesgarth but the quantities would alleviate rather than solve Haven's problems because of the sheer size of the City relative to this small village.
Well... I have a bad feeling about leaving Haven starving like this. Could have some serious consequences... I still wish we would go to the Vale...
I get the feeling nothing will do more than alleviate the problem while the Rebellion continues to blockade Beal.

At this point it the Vale is an unknown quantity, but significant numbers of animals are already making their way down to Haven from the Vale. Note that meat tends to feed the rich; the poor eat mainly bread and fish. The Fisherfolk are not numerous enough to stop the lower city from starving, so wheat and flour are what are urgently needed; or these new potato things that someone discovered are grown in the Vale...................

This is exactly what me and Syvil wanted to do bring back like 3-6 carts of potatoes and give some to the growing town by the mouth of the river to start farming them and if possible grow some in haven.

Nice idea for next year; but the lower town in Haven will be decimated before then, as the food has to be stored for winter now.

If we are worried about the Draks attacking Cain will buy some goats or something to use as bait to get away from them if they come we can get donkeys and carts/wagons from Adolpho for the potatoes whatever would ride the best there. Edit... oh its winter.

What would be the cost of the grain to get the lower city just by for the winter?

The money is not the problem; the problem is supply. Without Bael's Isle, there ain't none to buy..................

At the auction for the roses if we asked for the use of trade ships in the place of gold and built up a caravan of like 4-5 ships to go to Bael's Isle would that be more than enough to alleviate haven for the winter? Or even better also going to each company Cain and the others know and ask them to build up an armada of ships somehow?

Oh and it is not winter yet; it's late summer. There is just nothing anywhere to harvest...........Gatesgarth produces meat mainly and the fisherfolk can't catch enough to feed the lower town

I still vote we go get potatoes... If we can't plant em now we'll eat most and plant the rest next year.

The Companies have 5 ships between them and there are 5 more in port that could be requisitioned. If all made it through the blockade then Haven would be safe but not comfortable for the winter.

The Vale probably has enough crops grown but you don't know till you go there.

Would we be able to rally up the ships send them off to the isle guarded by the Iron Fist then go to the vale ourselves?
I assume transporting enough grain would be a huge bother? Could we set up a caravan mission where we scout and protect it from attack?

It is possible to send ships to Bael's Isle without accompanying them; relying on Iron Fists for guards. @ Syvil; are you asking about land caravan from The Vale or sea convoy from Bael's Isle?
Land from the Vale.
Stephen I think you said you were hoping for two midweek sessions next week, and presumably a weekend one, would it still be latish summer then? From what you're saying it seems like things are bad for Haven, but not dire until winter comes? So it's not like if dont solve the crisis immediately everyone starves on sunday?

As I have said to several people verbally, I am abandoning the strict 1 earth day = 12 Maladonian days system in favour of a system where I publish a calendar and advance the timeline as and when it suits the story. So each post or session I make will have a date and everything that happens is relative to that new current date in way that I control without recourse to real time. This will make taking feats more 'expensive' because it will likely mean mssed adventures due to training and also allow us to play out crises or time sensitive scernarios without slavishly adhereing to an arbitary time line.

So to answer your question; if people want to tackle that problem of food shortages, then Yes, it will still be late summer....................
That is good news, thanks Stephen
I updated loose ends to have top priorities at the beginning, as e.g. a food shortage. I don't think there is any other top priority right now on which the clock is ticking besides the scarlet blade hideout (if they hear their hideout had been discovered they might run away...) If I understand it correctly: Bale's island needs to be freed first since the vale is an insecure thing, especially with the Drake's and undead there... (I mean, they send stuff to haven already, but it is simply not enough)

Not entirely true PK; just understand this. I am using a realitic medieval system for food. Selling animals to Haven could be done without the leave of the King of the Vale; all a drover has to do it go around buying up poor people's spare animals. Selling grain is different; then you have to deal with the landowners and then it all becomes official.
Gatesgarth (Some food, relatively safe, missing lord investigation) Zil The Vale (Unkown food - possibly enough, unsafe due to drakes and high level undead enroute) Simon Uncommitted Jim F Ilikestuff Niko S
Gatesgarth is where some of the very first sessions went through, so it's dangers are perhaps better known, and some of the hints Stephen dropped about the challenge rating of 'Raos' also make me think that 'no problem' is rather... optimistic.

Well then. I will simply remove my comment; arguing won't help my cause. Update: I have still decided to post a short analysis of how I see things. Feel free to take it or leave it :)
I'm up for whatever seems like ye best plan
1459527821

Edited 1459527967
The "Best plan" is not obvious, though I think you'd really best make up your mind on your own, below you will find my analysis. Zil is for going to Gatesgarth, looking for food and for their lost lord; a worthy goal as they might have enough food to at least help, and the lost lord is a problem indeed. This is likely to be a bit safer. but with less food reward. I want to go get potatoes (food) from the Vale using a caravan. I have reason to believe potatoes could do a lot of good for the future too as they could potentially be grown at home without too much fuss. This is likely to be a bit less safe but with more food reward. Mind you both might go to hell depending on several factors; bad rolls, the situation in the place we come to, the willingness of the people there to aid us and so on. Both are somewhat of shots in the dark.

Getting anywhere with the people of the Vale is going to take some time. I agree with Syvil that the potatoes could help. But the blockade is the real problem here. And although this party isn't strong enough to bust the rebels' blockade we might still be able to make something happen. At least scout out the the Rebellion's possible main base, forward base or something like that. If we can make it easier for the next actually strong party I would think we help more than by going to the Vale. (edit:changed suggestion)
I apologize for not confirming that I wanted to join, yes this would be a new character and I wouldn't mind playing, but I don't want to take anyone's spot if they're already confirmed if I were to be bumped ahead of the line.

Jim F; the rules are that new players have priorty and so it's not you bumping someone out. You joined and the rules must be followed. See you tomorrow mate!
Votes guys. I vote for the Vale and Potatoes. For that I want 7. For any other I want 6. Please post your votes.

Edited 1459546630
I vote for going after the Rebellion (Bale's Isle stuff, 7 people). Help from the Vale is not going to be easy to get or fast to arrive.
And I am in favour of gatesgarth, 6 is fine. If ilikestuff isnt voting that leaves Jim F to break the tie i think. If he doesnt vote either, maybe Stephen should cast the decider? He has to do all the prep afterall.
Sounds good to me; Stephen you cast the deciding vote when you reach the prep deadline.
Well if I'm in then I'm voting for potatoes too, though I don't know the context.
Okedoke; that means unless Von has a different vote before the "prepaline" the "prepocalypse" or the all time favourite the "prepdown" then the mission goes to the Vale.
Currently we are looking at a player total of 7; though we can adjust numbers after deciding the mission should anyone so wish; that is less prep sensitive and I have confirmation from earlier tjhat Taleek will try to be there just in case.
noooo.... ;_;
gl and don't screw it up... (although: I hope you first of all find the guy and he gives you passage :D)

so............the Vale and 7 players?
I think so? There might just be 6 players though not 7, depending on what votes you go by. I am the only one to vote 7 I think? My phone not the best tool for this...

Sure, 7 people. Can't argue with the GM
