His clan's priest spoke to him of how he had been pulled to the rubble and added to the dead. It was only Kurtulmak's guidance that the priest had found life yet clinging to his body. He went on to explain how Kricket should have died from the blood loss and wounds, and how his survival defied explanation. Kricket pondered this, and as his mind cleared from the pain, he begged the old priest to teach him the ways of his god. Kricket received a basic instruction, but his voice fled when he sung the mining songs of Kurtulmak. In disappointment, he was dismissed back to the ranks of minors, but he found that he could not swing a pick with out seeing the world fall apart. Kricket lost the faith of his clan. Some called him mad, others called him lazy, but the worst was the looks of pity that the high priest gave him. A kobold who could not mine was not a kobold at all. Soon, even the safe haven of his den felt like a twig beneath a great weight. Kricket soon found that the only job that he could do was that given to children, gathering herbs on the surface. Kricket gathered bark and roots. He harvested berries and eggs. He caught strange insects, and picked exotic flowers. Every day that Kricket worked, he wandered further way from the burrow, until one day, he just kept walking. Excerpt from Kricket's Journal. Betrayed... again. I'm getting tired of seeing that orc wizard's fingers in everything we do. Sigma and the others felt the need to... save an orc farm from imps? It takes a powerful mage to summon that type of creature, and I know the villian who would be interested in cutting off the orc's food supplies. Why am I the only who realizes that our goals are being destroyed by that magic user? Surely someone would notice something that's this obvious. Regardless, why the hell are we shedding our blood to feed the orc slaves? Any action we take to protect them is temporary. If the green skins are too lazy to bash a couple of imps for a fortune worth of gold, then why would they do anything to protect the crops next year? I swear, Sigma's biggest weakness is that he does NOTHING to fix the cause of a problem. There will be more imps, there will be lazy orcs, and there will be starving slaves. At this rate, there will be no solution, only war. Red Tusk has left me. Wandered off when I was fighting in the arena and never came back. After everything I did for him he couldn't be bothered to say goodbye. This is what happens when you trust people. They set you up, and throw you down. The only question is who betrays who first. I was betrayed by my clan, my god, and by everyone I ever met. Trust is just a myth for the young and the naive.
