To-hit Roll Macro Question

I'm working on a to-hit combat system oriented around the d12 and a target number similar to that of Warhammer 40k.  In this system, the to-hit number is determined by the dice size +1 (i.e. d12+1=13) - the unit's attack attribute.  For example : if a player's attack attribute is 7, the character would need a 6+ to-hit a target on a d12 (13 - 7 = 6+). My question is: What's the best way to make a macro for this system that generates a "hit!" or "miss!" and the subsequent damage?

Something like this would show a green border around the attack roll for success and a red one for fail. [[ 1d12cs>[[12+1-?{attack attribute?|0}]]cf<[[12+1-?{attack attribute?|0}]] ]] without using a roll template written into a sheet, you would probably just include the damage roll along with the attack and ignore it if the attack roll is a miss. If the dice size (1d12) is also a variable, you could substitute a query for that as well or if it's on the sheet, substitute the attribute's name.
