At The Stone River Waypoint

As the title (which will be updated when you guys rename your new HQ) suggests, this thread will be for any roleplay or small tasks you guys want to do during the week when the party is staying at the former Fortress of Pelor. I'll begin by describing some of the renovations and cleanup. Once the place is thoroughly searched, Kraggan uses her druidic wild empathy and some meat rations to lure the dire wolverines out into the hills to the west, befriend them, and convince them to dig a new nest there, far enough that they won't cause problems for the Fort or its new inhabitants. Leoavor helps locate all the areas with lingering magical traps or dark magic for Hamanap to dispel , while the boats make trips to Waterwend to bring the rest of Limar's followers, some hireling laborers, Kraggan's dogs, lumber, nails, iron bands, hinges, anvils, weapons, armor, ammunition, reams of cloth, tools, soap, buckets, cauldrons, foodstuffs, chickens, and all sorts of other supplies. Herds of sheep and goats, a sounder of pigs, two horses towing a wagon, and a mule towing a cart, are led overland along the riverside and barged across to the Hills of Light. The dank and quiet Fortress is soon filled with light and the hustle and bustle of busy people. Debris and spoor are swept outside, remains are gathered and buried in a funeral ceremony led by Hamanap, floors are scrubbed of blood, arrow-slits are unclogged, doors are repaired or replaced, furniture is built, a moat and canal are dug, stables and a wall are raised, a dock is assembled, fields are plowed and sown, and so much more. For the first 3 weeks of the project (estimated by Leoavor to take about 6 weeks total), the main party is quite busy helping. Kraggan casts  plant growth  on the fields in surrounding valleys to encourage a more bountiful harvest, Hamanap treats broken bones and gashes incurred during construction (saving a few lives in the process) and consecrates  a new Shrine of Bahamut, Xankoris paints pictures for the walls and uses his illusions to help demonstrate how the decor should look, Leoavor directs the labor and uses his buff spells to help the workers move faster and stay more productive, Drusilia uses her acrobatics to help hang tapestries and chandeliers when she's not helping guard the new herds, Limar burns away stubborn stains with his corrosive breath and keeps watch for danger from the skies (saving a few livestock in the process), Hiskel helps Jarkel lay new traps around the main entrance and new treasure vault, and small groups make regular supply runs to Waterwend and Bowhery. As word begins to spread of the Wayfinders' new Fort, more followers offer their service to Limar, and the work goes faster as expenses rise (though Leoavor insists it should even out).
Your followers and hirelings will bunk together, but there's enough space for all the main party members to have private rooms. So, how do you each want to decorate your rooms?

what rooms are available? was hoping for a tower rooms to knock out a wall an have a fly in door and to fill in the stair case so others have to yell loud or climb to wake limar when he sleeps there. hiskel will settle for a small bed an reading desk with her new painting over it. maybe a magic circle to summon creature to talk with.
Josh said: what rooms are available? was hoping for a tower rooms to knock out a wall an have a fly in door and to fill in the stair case so others have to yell loud or climb to wake limar when he sleeps there. The towers don't actually have rooms, just spiral staircases with landings. Leoavor comments "They seem to be purely defensive structures, not really space in them for rooms, unless we blocked off the top landing of one... how about a third floor room on a main wall instead? We could widen one of the arrow slits a bit, and install a little locking door for you."
sounds good to me.
-any travelers, merchant or adventurers stopping by once in a while. -Baldmon stopping by and showing us how he escaped and the super secret room full of treasure. hiskel creating a few scorch marks on the stone when she blasts spiders with fire.
Josh said: -any travelers, merchant or adventurers stopping by once in a while. -Baldmon stopping by and showing us how he escaped and the super secret room full of treasure. hiskel creating a few scorch marks on the stone when she blasts spiders with fire. There will likely be some travelers stopping by eventually, especially as word spreads of your Fortress. :)
Josh  said: -hopefully after Cora has been returned to Merla, Limar will fly to the fort to ask Leo to head to waterwend as well as send 3 of Limars followers with him to fetch the supplies, his chest and the kobold  armor and bring them to the fort. Helra, Eberk, and Kuklet.   -Kuklet is to report to Kalemne, once the army starts to move he is to tell Hiskel and the help her and her followers move and let limar know where she puts her new lair. -Silaquin is to return to the fort with the supplies. -Collect silverlimes head, If its been long enough to question him again.     -What is the code to your armies messages?     -How many are in the Shadow moon armies?    -any suggestions?  - send the answers with leo Flying hard for 2 and a half hours with your draconic speed, you reach the Stone River Waypoint by late afternoon on Starday, Flocktime 1st.  Once you catch Leoavor and Hamanap up on things, Leo nods. "No problem, I'll gather everyone and set out first thing in the morning. Probably good to get Eberk away for a few days anyway, he had a big fight with Milo the other day. Seems like they were both drinking, so I didn't make too much of it,  but still... Other than that, things have been pretty quiet here, just a few travelers and some river merchants passing by. We did get some news though. A couple people were saying how a serious thunderstorm knocked down several homes in Kentwing last month. Oh, and someone said they heard that Moonshadow's sending soldiers north." As you head down to the vault, he adds "Oh by the way, I've been researching teleportation magic. I want to visit my father back in the Free City of Greyhawk and tell him my mother was avenged, but the journey could take years overland, and I don't want to leave you guys for that long. I'm a long way to any real results, though." Hamanap has kept  speak with dead  prepared for short notice, and casts it on the head once more. As before, each question is answered by a voice speaking into your minds, in the native language of each person present.  "What is the code your army uses?" Hamanap asks. "Four by three, they march with me, ten by five, none stay alive, flip the counter and drop the third, then you shall read the hidden word." "How many do your forces number?" Hamanap asks. "Threescore and eight, and two greater than them all." Hamanap thinks for a moment, then asks "Who is the changeling?" "The flying rider, the champion of the spider, the dream of Oraria, the miller with his thumb on Elgaud's scale... he has gathered his forces, and means to tip the balance at last." Leo ponders, as Hamanap carefully returns Silverlime's head to the jar and hands it to you. "I can work on that code riddle, I might be able to figure out the cipher key from it."
The note also said something about the moonshadow heading to waterwend, hopefully with the red kings help we can beat them before they can join up with gurrak an the grizzled one. what is this free city like? any knowledge on Oraria or Elgaud? good luck with that riddle.
Josh said: what is this free city like? "Oh, it's amazing," Leoavor says with a nostalgic smile. "The greatest city of the Flaness, maybe one of the biggest in the world. It stretches for miles across in every direction, and you can find anything there." Knowledge (geography) applies. Josh said: any knowledge on Oraria or Elgaud? Knowledge (geography) applies to these, too.

Josh said: flaness cityv13 elgaud, 11 You've heard of the Flaness, a huge region of Oerik in the distant northwest. You've probably heard of the Free City of Greyhawk as well, at least in passing, from people besides Leoavor, but it would be tens of thousands of miles away from here. Elgaud is the only major drow settlement in the Catacombs area, though it's a bit south of the Catacombs proper, deep in the Underdark.

on  the 7th when the shrine is done Limar will stop by to attach one of the eternal hoard copies( common) to it, consecrate it and let Hammun make the first offering, The silver Helm unless she has something better. -thank the craftmens for building and ask that they also work on a stone hand for the statue at their convenice since it'll be awhile before anyone can break that enchantment.
Josh said: on  the 7th when the shrine is done Limar will stop by to attach one of the eternal hoard copies( common) to it, consecrate it and let Hammun make the first offering, The silver Helm unless she has something better. -thank the craftmens for building and ask that they also work on a stone hand for the statue at their convenice since it'll be awhile before anyone can break that enchantment. The shrine is quite beautiful when you stop by to see it, wood and stone gilded and silvered, set with your gems and the beautiful bronze scale. It's been placed in the common room with the other two shrines, closer to Bahamut's since Astilabor has lawful tendencies. The stone on your holy symbol glows a soft, deep purple as you touch it to the shrine's holy symbol, and for a moment you can feel a warmth flowing through you, and an indescribable connection to the shrine...  As she offers the helm as the inaugural tithe, Hamanap sings a beautiful prayer in Draconic, invoking the blessings of Bahamut, and asking him to look favorably upon this shrine to one of his allies, and to renew the wisdom of the old dragons in this world that is forgetting them. Her voice is at its finest, high and clear, the music so beautiful it brings tears to the eyes of many of those present. Several of the Waypoint's inhabitants are moved to make small offerings of their own: a copper piece, a piece of chipped gray gemstone, a silver ring, a perfect owl feather. You can feel your holy symbol pulse, and know somehow that Astilabor is pleased with this start. One of your new followers, Caden Redleaf, is a skilled latoner. He takes a look at The Eternal Hoard  and says he'll get to work making a bronze cover for it, and a chain to attach it to the shrine permanently. Alton Highhill, your stonemason, affirms that he'll begin working on a replacement arm for the svirfneblin statue in your room.

Borg, Eberk Holderhek, Franz, Ahmed, and Everett are interesting in joining the war effort for the chance at glory and riches. They set out for Waterwend on Flocktime 7th in Lady's Lace . Alton is grateful, fingering the wooden device. "I'm not very good with letters, but what Leoavor told me about the book sounds like smart stuff..." he says. "I'd like to learn more when I can."

would  you like me to get you a copy in the Halfling language? diplomacy-18.  I thought Merla sent you here to spare you the siege but she didnt send Cora or any of her other family. Any idea why she wanted you out of waterwend?
He scratches the back of his head, face reddening a bit. "I'm not very good with... most letters." Knowledge (local) applies. He looks a bit abashed. "There was some trouble with the city guards. They like to push me around, always giving me a bum rap. I think Auntie Merla just wanted me to get some space away from it all." Sense Motive applies.

sense motive 13. -well if you decide being a cleric is something your interested in let Silaquin know and she'll arrange a tutor for you.
You get the feeling that his rap was somewhat more deserved than he wants to admit, though he seems more like a hoodlum than a hardened criminal. "A cleric? Like a proper priest and all that? I never really thought about it... thank you m'lord, I'll think on it."
Imported from the Errands in Town  thread: Josh  said: -confident that gurrak is going to sit there an wait from reinforcements he will fly to the keep and pick up the the other 2 cure moderate wound potions there and the 1 light cure potion as well as the dose of Drow sleeping poison  - see if Leo has any tips on fighting a mage -How is Hammanap? and then go catch up with the others. You have just enough time left in the evening to fly to the  Stone River Waypoint  and back before your away team is shipped out for the assault.  Leoavor's glad to see you, and unlocks the  Vault  to help you gather the party supplies while questioning you about recent events in the Siege of Waterwend. "Well, most arcanists are glass cannons... magic can be a huge force multiplier, but it takes a lot of focus to master. If you can make it harder for Gurak to actually  cast  his spells, it'll be much easier to take him down. You could try getting in close and attacking him whenever he tries to cast one, entangling him with a net or tanglefoot bag." Hamanap soon comes to see you as well, once she learns you're in the Waypoint. "Welcome, Limar! You should see the fine work Caden did on your new  Shrine of Astilabor , smithing a bronze cover and chain for her holy book. He just finished it today, and I've been admiring it. Oh, did you hear that Traubonn and Gunnloda starting dating? I heard from Liftrasa--his distant kin, I think--that he's had a crush on her for some time." Once you've gathered the potions and poison, Leoavor re-enables the traps and locks the  Vault  up tight again, telling you "My research into teleportation magic is coming along well. I think if I can finish it soon, it may be of great use in the Stone River War... especially now that Bowhery's fallen. It sounds like the situation is pretty bad there. The 105th and Kraggan's druid friend Riet are trying to arrange a guerilla resistance from the forests west of the town, but they think it might be a while before they're ready to move in and free the hostages." Josh  said: in that  case i may as well get those 3 tangle foot bags in the vault as well. admiring it enough to consider converting?  Hamanap laughs easily, her embroidered purple robes swaying around her as she walks through the halls beside you. "The Lord of the North Wind will always be first in my heart, Limar. Astilabor has my respect, as a part of the draconic pantheon, but... her ideology is just too materialistic for me. Good deeds should always be valued over good things." "I don't know," Leoavor says with the shadow of an impish smile, "Things can be pretty nice. This fortress, for example... strong walls, soft beds, hot food. Pretty damn good." Josh  said: good for them, maybe some day I'll get the time to get to know all of those who follow me. -speaking off which, that Eckbert dwarf fellow fell in battle, if you  could let the others know, and see if any of them know who his kin is at so that we can send them a message. -by we I mean you after gurrak falls I plan to spend the next long while in the stonefare earning rithes trust. Hamanap looks saddened. "He was a good man, and true... my Bahamut guide his soul to the eternal fields of light." Leoavor waits a few beats to add, "He always came off a bit brash to me, but he did seem to have a good heart. I'll see what I can do about finding his family. Perhaps we can send them a bit of coin too, and his remains. What happened to them after the battle?" Josh  said: Sounds good Leo, maybe you can use it to come get me at that kobold temple when im needed. "I hope so," Leoavor sighs. "I still think you're a little crazy, going into deep cover in enemy territory like that, but I can't fault your courage." Hamanap adds "Once you go into the  Stonefare , we won't be able to send physical messages thanks to the embargo. I'll keep in touch with  sending  though, so you can respond with news from inside." "We've been discussing the course of the war," Leoavor explains, "and we both think it's likely that things will stagnate for a while after the fate of Waterwend is resolved. Whether it falls or not, the enemy alliance seems to have  Bowhery  in a firm grip, and the  Terolus Military Garrison  at  Base Camp  is dug in hard against intrusions. Hurock's been helping me keep in touch with Colonel Treeford there, and he says there've been only minimal attacks from golgari... though they are seeing some raids from Suloise troops wandering northward, too, and refugees from nearby thorps and villages that have been sacked." Hamanap nods. "Your friend Jakob, the priest of Ehlonna, has organized a militia of locals there as well. Or more of a volunteer city watch, perhaps? They call themselves the Alicorn Resurgent, in honor of his goddess's symbol." Leoavor smiles at this. "In any case, we think the Siege of  Waterwend  will be a turning point in the Stone River War. Whichever side takes the city will tip the scales in the next major battle, perhaps this autumn. And since that next major battle will likely either be in  Bowhery  or  Base Camp , your position in Rith's court will likely play a major role in its outcome." Josh  said: -can any of the craft people make a neckless or arm band for the rithe /flesh reek symbol  "I'll get Alton right on that," Leo promises. "He's good with leatherworking and upholstery, been helping update our guards' livery." Josh  said: int 16 to remeber where his stuff is. You recall that his body, still armed and armored in the traditon of dwarven warriors, was given to the Orthan River by Eldon Underhill in the tradition of Waterwend. Josh  said: It was all given to the river, we can do the gold easily, maybe we could get a replacement weapon at least. Leoavor nods easily. "We'll take care of it. The  Waypoint's  running quite well now, economically... everyone seems to have settled into their roles, and we've been producing all the food and goods we need. And whatever we can't make, we've been able to trade for with merchants coming up the canal. There's been a spike in those, I think the war is still driving them away from the other ports. Some have mentioned that Kraggan sent them our way, too." Josh  said: -I thought the suilose problem ended when their navy got hit by the storm "I'm not totally sure what the deal is with that, to be honest..." Leoavor frowns, shrugging.  Hamanap says "We've heard the same rumors of their fleets being scattered and scuttled, but also tales of them moving northward over Terolus in small bands, sacking villages whose lords went south to fight them on the coast. Perhaps a larger force of them survived the Storm, and are still engaged with the Terolus Army there?" "If so," Leo adds, "the ones raiding around  Base Camp  are probably just killing for sport and looting for survival, little more than bandits now. In any case, it doesn't sound like they have the numbers to pose a real threat to the garrison, unless they join forces with Rith One-eye or her allies. That's my only real concern, so far as the Suloise go." Josh  said: - a stranded army far from home I wonder if they're still loyal to Suloise. Do either of  you know anything about The suloise and their culture? How the war between terolous and them started? -any knowledge apply? Leoavor ponders this for a moment, as if unsure of how to begin. "I've read up a bit about them... the original Suel Empire, what the people in this part of the world call Old Suel, was located in the Flaness in northeastern Oerik. The Free City of Greyhawk, where I grew up, is in the Flaness too. They were a human subrace who exterminated or drove out all the other races in their territory, and became immensely powerful by use of ancient, mostly lost, magicks. But Old Suel was devastated by a supernatural disaster long ago, the great empire destroyed and scattered into a diaspora. Some of the refugees sailed as far as southeastern Oerik, where they colonized a largely primitive region of jungle and desert, which people where I'm from call New Suel, but people around here just call Suel. Even the native peoples of the region, who were largely enslaved or exterminated by the colonists, are now called Suloise in the Common tongue, though they have much darker skin and hair than the colonists and their own rich culture. But wherever they are, the Suloise have a long history of conquest and strong ideals about the supremacy of their own culture. They were always deadliest at sea, and were terrorizing the coastlines of the Thillonrian Peninsula long before they came south... in the centuries since, they've been the scourge of southeastern Oerik, from the Sea of Amarillo to the Omar Coast and Anaro Cape, as far as the Sea of Lost Souls and the southern coast of Terolus. They've had numerous wars with most coastal nations here, including Terolus, the Kingdom of Provincia, and the Longinus States." Knowledge (geography), (history), (religion), and (local) apply. "I recall stories in my homeland about raiders with faces like white sandstone rising from the seas. They were treacherous and false, making promises of friendship and then delivering only death," Hamanap says, her eyes far away.

Josh said: -believes they are the best race and give false promises an do double dealing sounds familiar, I don't think i'll pick a side in that war I dont like the terolus army either. "Politics makes for strange bedfellows," Hamanap says sagely. "I'd say we're already in bed with them, then," Leoavor replies in a drier tone. "But we don't need to be friends in order to fight a common enemy. I'd be happy to use the Suloise against this alliance of evil powers... though I doubt the Terolus Military will go for, given that they're currently at war with Suel." Josh said: hiskel got 22 on history. When you ask her later that evening in Waterwend, Hiskel recalls a song about the Reclaimers, the legendary party of heroes who ended to the Cataclysm. Supposedly, they captured a Suloise naval ship and traveled to Suel to recover an artifact of immense power hidden by the natives since ancient times in the deep jungles. On their return to Terolus, the Reclaimers used the artifact to suck in all the darkness and evil that had spread across the land, purifying the region in an event now called the Renewal. The artifact shattered with great blast that broke the earth open in the center of Terolus, where the Cataclysm first began, creating the volcanic Wastes that still steam and roil there today. The truth of this tale is debated by scholars, as the exact origin of the Cataclysm and the nature of its end are still shrouded in mystery. The last of the Reclaimers perished in battle with the Lich-King and there were few people still living in Terolus during their time, so only fragments of their stories have survived them to be pieced together in the centuries since. You could also ask Viktor of the Deathwalkers his thoughts on Suel, since it's his homeland.
Josh  said: When hiskel An eslen , she'll give him a brief tour.Kitchen there, Library here you'll be staying with the other servants. Limars collection of shrines, you might put one to Aasterinan there when you can. -what brought you to worship her by the way? most kobolds don't like traveling. Eslen seems very impressed with the Stone River Waypoint , and more than a little relieved at the quality of the accommodations. He skims through the titles in the library, which include some new books Leoavor's collected lately:  The History of the Burning Sun ,  Common Causes for Border Wars , and Evocative Magicks and their Transpositive Graphs (in Draconic). He runs a claw over the green scales inlaid onto the green dragon head of Tiamat's Shrine , toys with the bronze chain latching a copy of The Eternal Hoard  to the the Shrine of Astilabor , and offers a copper piece to the Shrine of Bahamut . "Three shrines to the dragon gods in one place is a rare and wondrous thing... I will study hard, so that someday mine can stand amongst them." "My former master was something of an eccentric," he explains, "and wished me to learn the ways of an unusual deity. He told me to read through the books in his private library and choose one... after studying the theologies and philosophy of many different gods, Aasterinian's teachings seemed to speak most to the person I wish to be. So I have devoted myself to her example since then, and was eventually blessed by her answering my prayers. My master was a shipping merchant, so I have been lucky enough to accompany his crews on many voyages as a clerk and later as his supercargo. I saw much of the Catacombs' rivers and their ports, and had many interesting experiences. Unfortunately, several of his ships were lost in the Stone River War, and he fell on hard times. He was forced to sell me, and many of his other assets, to make ends meet."
I see then how would you prefer to go about paying off the rest of your debt? I don't mind giving you the freedom to sign on with one of the ships that pass through here. or would you prefer to join the war effort? Doran would no doubt accept an extra healer. -If you do bless a shrine to  Aasterinian here i'll knock another 100 gold off your service.

Doran would no doubt accept an extra healer. -If you do bless a shrine to  Aasterinian here i'll knock another 100 gold off your service.  "I am not well-suited for the rigors of war, I fear," Eslen admits in his high-pitched Draconic, his enunciation clearer than most kobolds'. "Most of my experience has been with bookkeeping and inventory. Perhaps my lady would permit me to assist your castellan in managing the fortress's accounts? I could act as a liason with the river traders who visit here, and hear their stories of far off wonders..."
Well I will introduce you to leo,  I do not know if he'll accept you, and you do not need my permission to find a job, enjoy your first steps to freedom.
Josh said: Well I will introduce you to leo,  I do not know if he'll accept you, and you do not need my permission to find a job, enjoy your first steps to freedom. He bows deeply, saying "My lady is too generous. I pray that I shall not ever give her reason to regret her kindness and good faith." While Xankoris was spreading Rokugani culture to Waterwend and Hiskel was getting Eslen situated at the Stone River Waypoint, Kraggan Fateseeker has been busy flying back and forth gathering intel to prepare for the coming battles. On Reaping 6th, she begins gathering everyone who's not busy with their own projects at the party's fort, to be close when the call comes to join the insurgency. She tells Xankoris that he "can keep working in Treefall, but be ready to fly back with all speed when we  send  for you." She shares the news she's learned with those gathered as well: The Terolus Army's elite 105th Squadron, led by Sergeant Major Doran Starflower, is in charge of the guerilla anti-occupation force from their secret camp in the woods west of Bowhery. The stone-masked mercenary sorceress Kirin, a Bowhery local, is with them, still under contract by the Companions guild that governs the town. Riet, a halfling druid who's worked with the Wayfinders in the past, is among them, using her new hawk companion Skyline as a messenger, as is Master Sergeant Verne Smith of your party. Several important citizens, including all the remaining Companions faction leaders, are now hostages of the occupying forces; most are being held in the Companions Guildhall and the Church of Pelor. Old Murnig's tower outside town was attacked during the invasion, but he set his experiments upon the attackers then parleyed a peace with them, agreeing to provide them his services in return for being unmolested. Few citizens are out of doors, and those who are scurry quickly to their destinations under the watchful eyes of heavy patrols. The docks are swarming with Rith One-Eye's hobgoblin guards, watching everyone and questioning the captains and crew of the few trading vessels that come to dock. Their commander Harak the Flash sleeps days at the inn, then goes around supervising his troops at night. Zorall's warleader, and an infamously treacherous former Companion, Leeman Kendling holds court at the inn during the day while his diurnal soldiers (mostly elves, humans, halflings, gnomes, and dwarves) patrol the main town; at night, his nocturnal soldiers (mostly orcs, half-orcs, and goblins) take their place. By nights, the drow blackguard Paru'steni, official leader of the occupation and a high-ranking commander under Shurreon, reinforces the watch with his drow and a few driders by night. There are about 300 enemy soldiers staying inside the town walls, altogether, but the three factions of them don't get along well. Doran's general plan is to send in the Wayfinders and a few others as an elite, undercover team to secure the hostages and then break the enemy defenses from within while a larger force attacks from the outside in a coordinated storming. He's in negotiations with the Red King, on Kraggan's suggestion, to provide that larger force in return for first choice of the captured enemies. His own spies, as well as those hired by Leoavor, are gathering as much intel as possible to iron out the details; in the meantime, he's waiting to see if any of the assassins hired by the party succeed in taking out the enemy leaders. Once the attempts are made, he'll send out the call for everyone to begin moving, and join up with the party at the Stone River Waypoint to go over the final plan and carry it out. With your plans in place, there's not much to do but prepare and wait for a few weeks. Xankoris researches his spell in Treefall and Limar infiltrates the Stonefare, while Eslen learns to keep the Waypoint's books and Hannah helps Kraggan train the pack of new dogs she acquired in the elven river city. Leoavor finishes learning resist energy from Limar's scroll, and is nearing the completion of his teleport  spell. Hamanap keeps Limar in the loop with periodic  sending  spells. The hirelings are paid, summer days of sunshine and warm winds pass... more trade comes up the canal to the Stone River Waypoint, with Bowhery's port grown less welcome and Waterwend's new taxes taking their toll on commerce. Leoavor orders Alton Highhill to supervise the construction of more outbuildings for merchants, and starts collecting a 1% tax on trade there with Eslen's help.  By the end of Reaping, the increase in trade from the war has become so profitable that the Waypoint can now afford to pay half the wages of the mercenaries and grooms on staff.

Avariel will also request to be present at the strategy meeting, though being relatively foreign to this area he won't have much input.
Leoavor and Hamanap welcome everyone back, and are eager to swap news from the last few days. You learn that Leo has finally completed his research on two new spells:  teleport  (which he can use to help with party transportation) and  wall of stone  (which he can use to help construct more outbuildings). He's pleased to meet Ering, the gentle and smiling half-elf shaking hands and saying "Finally we make friends with another wizard! We should compare notes, maybe swap some spells if you have time?" Graceful in her purple robes embroidered with silver dragons and stars, the nubian Hamanap greets the party's guests with a small, elegant bow. "Your timing is serendipitous. A silver raven from our friend Zanean Fain of the Deathwalkers just delivered a letter. It's addressed to you, Xankoris," she says, handing him the scroll with his name written across the side, still sealed with wax using the Deathwalkers'  sigil . "I also need to discuss something with the whole party, now that the situation in Bowhery is handled and almost everyone is gathered. Limar contacted me some time ago about a matter of great import." Leoavor is amazed by Hiskel's prisoner, as well as the size of the host trailing the away team. "So that message  was  from Kraggan... to be honest, I wasn't sure, so I underquoted. 100 men might have been better... ah well, it'll be hard enough to feed 50. I'll have to work with Alton and my new spell to throw up some barracks for them."  He circles Razzy in a wide arc, whistling. "What a monster! And that leash thing is creepy as all seven hells... I guess we can set up a cell for him, maybe have Jarkel rig up something to set off the flask if he moves too quickly." Noa  said: Triss would like the chance later to ask around if anyone at Waypoint has information on something he calls “The Ruins of Corellon” to the south of Bowery, or any of the former clergy there from roughly thirty to forty years ago. He will be in his disguise as Axil when out in the open. (30 gather info) You have some time to ask around, and meet more of the residents of the Fort. Leoavor also discusses Xankoris's idea for making a partial map of Zorall's territory. "I think it's a great plan. I've been practicing my cartography, so I can probably help a lot." If you want to give it a try, tell me what sort of target you're looking for and roll Spot, Xank. "The forged letters from Rith to Fleshreek are a cool idea too, Kraggan" Leo laughs, when he hears about it. "A  sending  to Jonas would be fastest, but I don't think Hamanap's ever met them personally... I guess I'll have to use Hurock to send a letter to Strongtown? Maybe he could just wait there while Jonas whips up some forgeries, and bring them right back. What do you guys think?"

Xankoris open the scroll alone in his room and read it. The letter is from Oskar Strakeln, their Guildmaster. It says that they're sending out a team to probe Zanzibar's territory, and watching for any sign of the war moving north. A postscript was added and signed by Nell, explaining that the paper itself is a gift from her to Xankoris, to thank him for the painting of her he did in Waterwend. She writes that the paper is a bit of old magic from Rokugan, and that if he writes and addresses a message on it and folds it into an animal, it will travel to the recipient under its own power, then once read the message will vanish and it can be reused. And indeed, when he finishes reading it, the words fade from the paper, leaving it blank. Josh said: Since this isnt a in the moment diplomacy, could she take 10 or 20 on the letter? otherwise 24. The letter is exquisitely crafted, an excellent piece of diplomatic work. Razzy growls through his muzzle, glaring down balefully at you. "Best not remove it," Leoavor suggests, peering through the door bars at the troll imprisoned in his new cell. "I'm worried his fire breath could burn through the leash in one hit. Besides, scales wouldn't really prove he's alive, would they?" Some started to say it was a curse of the gods, and that the ruins were haunted. Everyone avoids them, nowadays." She thinks back for a minute, searching her long elven memory, but shakes her head. "Sorry, I can't remember any other specifics. It was a long time ago, you understand, and I only visited the Temple a few times. But I'd think if anyone got out alive, they would've spread the word on what happened by now, give folks some closure." She pats your knee sympathetically. "I'll mention it to Hamanap and Kraggan. The first attempt fails to lock onto anyone, but your control over the void has grown stronger and more precise through hard training in recent months. You reach out again, and your third eye opens on a dwarf in peasant roughspun trundling along an underground path. He's barefoot, wearing a leather satchel and the heavy iron collar of a slave. As you watch, he passes through some darker areas and others better lit by lanterns, with people of many races about. Some look like soldiers, others slaves, and others just people... people crying their wares, scolding their children, feeding stray dogs, dicing, arguing over the price of a loaf, kissing behind stalagmites. Leoavor sketches a map with quill and paper as you narrate, Silk occasionally feeding you bites of salt pork and fruit to keep your strength up through the tiresome effort. Josh said: truespeak 10 You learn a bit more about the history of truenaming, though it's hard to separate fact from mythology in The Legendary Truenamers . The author speaks of ancient masters of naming who could speak a hundred tongues, twist the swords of foes against their wielders, and make flame obey their every command. It talks about a theoretical 'primordial tongue' spoken by the eldest gods which they used to shape the world and in which word and deed are one. This primordial tongue, the author posits, is the ancestor of all modern languages, which have become pale imitations of it with only a fraction of its power... though its eldest children, such as Draconic and Terran, still hold some significant magic. From the other book, you learn a good deal about the physiology of krakens, but it's hard to be sure how applicable it'll be to other things.

After everyone is dismissed, He asks people in the Waypoint for several wooden poles and lanterns. Next day, he decorates those poles with lanterns, lights it, and sticks it to the ground, he also tells Silk to keep it lit night and day for 3 full days. "I will go to Waterwend for a day or two," said Xankoris. Then he eats some food and flies to Waterwend.

The maps seem to be rough layouts of Bowhery , Waterwend , Base Camp , the Stone River Waypoint (from the outside), and the overall area of the southeastern Catacombs surface. He's making notes in Common on possible weak points in the towns' and fort's defenses and trying to devise battle plans, but with little success. From the few ideas he keeps going back to, it seems like he's focusing more on overland attacks from the west against the Waypoint and Bowhery . There are repeated mentions of 'distractions' using the golgari against Base Camp , as well as 'possible alliance with Suloise' and 'tribes? Tuktuk , Lintag, Scarrak". The mention of the Suloise is an immediate red flag to you--living in Skyshroud until recently, much of your work in the last few years has related to the ongoing Suloise War, the latest in a string of conflicts between Terolus and the imperialistic nation of Suel going back centuries. After their piracy of your coastal waters escalated into a blockade, then naval conflict, and then into all-out war, they invaded the Terolus mainland last year. Most of the fighting has stayed along the coasts in the east, but there have been rumors of Suloise raiding groups working their way further north in the west... could they have gotten as far as the Catacombs? For the 'tribes', you can roll Knowledge (local) on each.
