At The Stone River Waypoint

Knowledge (local): 16 Knowledge (local): 12 Knowledge (local): 11
Dawi said: Knowledge (local): 16 Knowledge (local): 12 You recall the Tuktuk goblin tribe coming up in your briefings on the area, and Doran mentioning them too. Sometimes called the "night goblins", the inhabitants of this warren are known for allying with worgs--vicious, evil, wolven magical beasts--to carry them into battle as intelligent mounts. They raided the Stonefare, a few miles north of their territory, for years until the golgari swarming the surface recently began to keep them at bay, and there are rumors that Gurak considered trying to absorb them into his goblinoid army before his fall at Waterwend. The Lintag orc clan are a little ways northeast of the Stonefare and northwest of Base Camp. You recall Doran saying that they were fortifying their village last year, but don't know much else about them.
With Dreyan's status confirmed and Xankoris's worrying new affliction under control for the time being, the shugenja wishes Silk goodbye and flies to Waterwend to look for investors in his spell project. Once he's gone, Hamanap mentions to the others "You know, his birthday is in a few days on the 18th. We'll probably be separated when it passes, perhaps you can find a nice gift in Kentwing ?" Leoavor nods, saying "Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that! I'll look for something." As the new away team prepare to depart for Kentwing , Hamanap also tells them "It looks like I won't be able to impose the mark of justice on Triss after all, since you're departing soon without me and I won't be able to remove it before you arrive in Kentwing . But I don't think it's necessary now... Triss has given me every reason to trust him." The following day on Goodmonth 13th, Leoavor, Kraggan, Ering, and Triss take the party's smaller launch Lady's Lace upriver to Waterwend , where they'll rent a coach to bring them to overland to the northern town. Does Ering take any of the men from his platoon with him, or leave them all to help guard the fort? Hamanap sets Avariel up with a room of his own, asking him how he'd like to decorate it. She also prays for several sending spells, using them to convey as much as she can about Xankoris's visions of Dreyan to Limar and to begin contacting clergy she knows in other towns to ask for advice on treating Xankoris. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545; min-height: 14.0px} On Goodmonth 15th, Hiskel finishes reading Krakens' Glandular System: Current Fallacies and The Legendary Truenamers. She gains a +4 bonus to confirm threats against krakens and a bonus rank in Truespeak. Does she put the books in the Waypoint library?
Avariel probably requests his room be set up somewhat like the sanctuary of a temple to a good deity. Of course nothing super frilly, just something that he could dedicate to his deity when he gets powerful enough (read: gets to level 13 and can use Hallow  as a spell-like ability)

Limars response amounts to -This Taint stuff puts Dreyan beyond redemption I'll put her down. -I've got several other allies against Rithe no I won't consort with a necromancer, who wouldnt be any help imprisoned.  -how are you Hammun? Yes she'll put them in the library, maybe have one of the crafts people in the keep make copies to send to the water wend library.

Vigil will stay behind, exploring the Waypoint and the surrounding areas.

Max said: After a few days, he notes a bit warily "You don't have any evocation or enchantment spells... and there are a lot of necromantic ones here. Are you a necromancer, Ering?" Ering nods. "I am. I also focus on Conjuration but by all definitions I am a Necromancer, it is also part of the reason why I was assigned to the Catacombs' region; after all who is better equipped to understand and fight the corruption spawned by the greatest necromancer that ever lived than someone who specializes in the school?" He lets his words hang for a moment before resuming with a softer tone. "Some Necromancy spells are not inherently evil, just like a Lighting Bolt isn't. You have seen my spellbook, so you know that I have no interest in Creating or Animating Undead. I do know how to paralyze and control them, but, on the name of Ruby Sorceress herself I would never interfere with someone's body and soul to create a mockery of life." If , Kraggan shares the Sending  Ering will frown, shaking his head. "Killing Dreyan would be a terrible mistake. It could expose his cover and now that we know her affliction we can use it to our advantage. We can promise her respite from her illness! She seemed desperate enough to attack Rith on her own, imagine what she could give us with a little push. We could have Rith dead, Dreyan and the Golgari removed, one of Tellaj artifacts secured from enemy hands and a whole lot of information from interrogation her." [Max I think you linked Zorall's card with Rith]
If leo wants to he can its not that important to hiskel.

"I will give your ideas serious consideration. Once you all return, perhaps we can formulate a plan together." Noa said: Noa said: Triss will also meet with Avariel to speak with him. “You wanted to speak with me about what I know before I left, yes?” He’ll pick up the man’s hand with his ring on it and point to it. “I am not an expert, but your rings design suggests something celestial in nature...it’s fairly unique.” (is there a roll to see if I know anything about any noble lines with clelestial heritage foreign or more local or if they have noble houses among actual celestials?) Knowledge (nobility & royalty) and (the planes) apply. (22 nobility check for families with celestial origins and/or if the celestial plane has anything like nobility) You know there are a handful of noble families in every race that boast some extraplanar or draconic blood in their ancestry, for such things often produce more exceptional scions. The pattern of Avariel's family sigil shows certain hallmarks used by human houses to hint of celestial blood, and though you don't recognize this particular house, you think it might be from Zenith , one of the five free provinces of the United Republic of Oranzius , a nation far to the north of Terolus. Dawi said: Max  said: She then  sends  to Kraggan and Xankoris:  "Limar has gathered new allies against  Rith , intends to slay Dreyan and topple her. That leaves Zorall to us." Ering will frown, shaking his head. "Killing Dreyan would be a terrible mistake. It could expose his cover and now that we know her affliction we can use it to our advantage. We can promise her respite from her illness! She seemed desperate enough to attack Rith on her own, imagine what she could give us with a little push. We could have Rith dead, Dreyan and the Golgari removed, one of Tellaj artifacts secured from enemy hands and a whole lot of information from interrogation her." [Max I think you linked Zorall's card with Rith] "Limar is very clever, stealthy, and quick on his feet... I don't think he'll act rashly," Leoavor says, though he doesn't seem as sure he tries to sound. "And  can  we break Dreyan's link with the golgari? If it really is the Lich-King's magic, it may well be beyond us. Even touching it through scrying cursed Xankoris. Killing her might be the only choice." That's just a Chrome extension called Autocard Anywhere, it sometimes links to real MtG cards with the same names as text in my browser, and it picked up on Rith One-Eye's namesake lol. Nate S. said: Max said: Nate S. said: Avariel probably requests his room be set up somewhat like the sanctuary of a temple to a good deity. Of course nothing super frilly, just something that he could dedicate to his deity when he gets powerful enough (read: gets to level 13 and can use Hallow as a spell-like ability) Hamanap gathers some craftspeople from the Waypoint's occupants, and they set to work refitting one of the storage rooms for you over the next week. Alton Highhill builds a bedframe and upholsters some low stools for sitting or kneeling in prayer, Silk whitewashes the walls, Caden Redleaf smiths a holy symbol of Heironeous from bronze to display on the wall then weaves some simple hangings, and Fisher makes you a bunch of candles to set around it for burning in devotion. "The work should take about a week," Hamanap judges, once everything is set in motion. Then giving you a sly smile and gently touching your arm, she offers casually "You could stay in my room until it's finished, if you like." Avariel thanks Hamanap with a smile. She seems to find you quite charming, but that's nothing new for you. Do you acquiesce to her romantic advances? Dawi said: Max said: After a few days, he notes a bit warily "You don't have any evocation or enchantment spells... and there are a lot of necromantic ones here. I do know how to paralyze and control them, but, on the name of Ruby Sorceress herself I would never interfere with someone's body and soul to create a mockery of life." "I specialize in curses and in spells that alter the life force of my enemies, I noticed that you know one of those as well." Leoavor nods slowly, seeing the wisdom in this. "I do use some necromancy myself, to increase my own life force for protection in battle. It's a much maligned school, for it can create some of the greatest evils in all of arcane magic, but not all of it is so..." When you mention the Ruby Goddess, he looks doubly nervous though. "Dreyan isn't the only necromancer we've had issues with... one named Levi has caused us a lot of trouble, and nearly destroyed two towns in the process. He's the one who created the death elemental bound to Xankoris, and before that he worked with Leeman Kendling to try to stage a coup in Bowhery . Wee Jas was bound up in both conspiracies, through pacts she mad with me and a former companion of ours named Zeke who went mad and tried to kill us all."

On Sunday, Goodmonth 23rd, Verne returns to the fort on his riding horse Nyx. He's recovering from some sounds, and his uniform is torn and bloodstained. Hamanap treats his injuries while Caden Redleaf starts fixing the damaged clothing. "Sorry it took me so long to get back," Verne says with a fraught smile. "I ran into some trouble while circling south around the Stonefare and the Tuktuk warrens..." "Goblins?" Caden asks. Verne shakes his head, smile dying. "Suloise bandits. They're attacking thorps, sacking and burning at will. I dealt with some of them, but there were too many... I had to beat a hasty retreat. If not for Nyx, I might have been done for." That evening, Hamanap invites Avariel up to one of the towers to show him the stars. "Tonight is a holiday in Terolus," she explains. "I thought you might not know, since you said you haven't been here long. They call it Ryon's Eve, a night for appreciating the heavens and the seasonal meteor showers. Look!" the tall, graceful woman says suddenly, pointing. Glancing up, you see a falling star paint its golden streak across the speckled sky for a few moments before fading away. "It's a clear night, too... perfect weather for it." She's quiet for a few minutes, enjoying the view with you as the breeze gently ruffles her robes and your feathers. Then she adds wistfully, "My people believe that falling stars are the tears of Horus, god of the night sky. He sheds them for those soon to die... I wonder whom these tears are for? Our enemies, or us?" Knowledge (religion) applies. Hiskel returns from Bowhery the next day, but there is still no word from Zorall. A few more days pass, and on the 27th work is finally completed on the new aviary. Hamanap pitches in to help the workers finish, since the red morning skies forebode a thunderstorm. Sure enough, by early afternoon it's begun to rain and the wind is picking up. Vigil can roll a Diplomacy check to try to convince the magpies he met last week to come shelter from the storm in the newly roofed aviary, with a +2 circumstance bonus for the weather.

(Know religion check of 12) "It's certainly been some time since I've seen the stars like this...I suppose being able to fly doesn't mean you can't still appreciate the beauty of the sky as something special." You recall a missionary from distant Egypt coming through Salem once, preaching this same strange faith. He spoke of Horus as well, a falcon-headed god of the skies.  Curiously, Hamanap asks "What's the highest you've ever flown? Is it possible to fly to the moons?" In the sky above, the larger white Luna is almost full and the smaller blue Celene is a thin crescent. You might know from experience that the air grows thinner as you climb higher, making it both more difficult to fly and to breathe, and you've never even gotten close to the moons. Josh said: Hiskel will find Gunnloda the blacksmith "could you help me craft this silver ignot  into a egg shape?" When you arrive at the Smithy, Gunnloda is making out with her boyfriend Traubonn, the apothecary. She pulls away from his kisses, laughing, to see what you need. "I'm not a silversmith, milady, but I'll do ma best."  Two days later the errand-boy Alton Underbough delivers a more-or-less ovoid silver ingot back to you. And, perhaps by providence, that same day another party arrives at the front gates. Word spreads through the Fort like wildfire: that dragon-goblin is back, and she brought another  one! Your honor guard this time, hastily gathered on your way downstairs, consists of the orc mercenary Krusk, one of Limar's followers Miles Thorngreen, and one of Ering's platoon Private Garret Tosscobble. As you cross the yard with Hamanap and your trio of guardsmen, you can see that the group consists of Azilla, two orcs, a dwarf, and a half-red dragoness elf with olive skin where she doesn't have scales. "Don't worry, if they try anything I'll put a dagger between their eyes at 6 paces before they can blink," Miles assures you in a whisper as you approach. "We still got a deal, kobold?" Azilla asks loudly as soon as you're within earshot, eyeing the guards warily. You can see that the elven dragon wears flame-patterened robes, with a red gold amulet shaped like a reptilian eye over a flame--the unholy symbol of Garyx. The three purebloods behind her all carry heavy packs and wear Zorall's sigilry, though despite their burly muscles they look more like workmen than soldiers.
"yes come on in goblin, nice to meet you priestess."
Josh said: "yes come on in goblin, nice to meet you priestess." Miles and Krusk eyeball the orcs and dwarf, and get eyeballed right back, as the priestess and Azilla sweep past. "Raliza," the half-elf introduces herself curtly. "We've brought the supplies to build the shrine, and the rest of the coin for Razzy's ransom. The work should take less than a week."
"I suppose your chaotic evil gods shrine  would be better off near Tiamats shrine over there, did you bring some book for me to read?"
“I’m afraid the moons are a bit out of reach for a little bird like me...they’re very far, and the air gets very thin the higher you get. I can make it above the trees a decent distance but even some small animals can fly higher than I can...it’s probably by virtue of the fact that they are born to do it while only half of me is.” (Avariel doesn’t know that smaller animals require less oxygen...he’s just chalking it up to his half-blooded nature)

Josh said: "I suppose your chaotic evil gods shrine  would be better off near Tiamats shrine over there, did you bring some book for me to read?" Raliza's workmen start to unload tools and materials from their packs as she looks around the common room--ingots of red gold, blocks of dark stone, bulging sacks, hammers, masonry trowels, chisels, and more. "I did, yes," she says, snapping her clawed fingers. The dwarf produces two tomes bound in leather from his pack and hands them to you: each one has the title written on the cover in ornate Draconic: The Cleansing Flame.  Despite this, the Garyxian scripture inside them is written in Common. The orcs and dwarf get to work right away under Raliza's direction. "We'll need access to a smithy as well. I assume you have one here somewhere?" Raliza asks, eyeing the other shrines curiously.

"I'll need to supervise the entire process, but I suppose we can't work all  the time..." Raliza admits. "What have you got?" Josh said: hiskel will read the book while waiting. The Cleansing Flame 's message is fundamentally about how growth can only occur in the vacuum left after destruction. Small changes, it says, only bring further stagnation--to create the new, one must first shatter the old. So rather than protecting, the goal of life should be destroying, thereby bringing change and evolution. In this way, evil brings chaos, and the world is improved. It tells legends of the red dragon god Garyx and His realm in the Windswept Depths of Pandemonium, how He periodically travels to the Material Plane to wreak unholy swaths of destruction across the landscape. There are parables of those who revere Him following his example, using their power to bring ruin and devastation, and the change that this always brings. Particular attention is given to the usefulness of arson in destroying; it suggests that fire itself is the ultimate manifestation and blessing of Garyx, for it spreads and consumes as He does, and new growth always blossoms in its wake. It also has various prayers to be used before going into battle, before destroying things or lighting flames, and in Godsday rituals. For example, when lighting a fire, a worshiper of Garyx murmurs a benison such as “Grant me the power to destroy.”  There are also instructions for conducting a variety of rites connected to the seasons. At the winter solstice (Needfest 4th), All-Consuming Night is when you should keep a large bonfire lit and have followers bring a variety of flammable items to be destroyed. At the spring equinox (Growfest 4th), you should hold a Sanctification of Renewal in which the ashes at the site of the All-Consuming Night bonfire are sifted and examined. Any useful remains are taken to be reused. For instance, bits of metal are taken to be reforged into swords, armor, or other useful tools of destruction. Any seedlings that might have taken root in the area are nurtured.
"theres the eternal horde on the Astilabor shrine and then we have a library elsewhere full of books." which festival is closer?
What does Hiskel do with the two copies of The Cleansing Flame ? A couple days after the bonfire, a hobgoblin hedge knight arrives at the gates, seeking audience with the Wayfinders. "My name is Sir Sevyir," he announces to the gathered Hiskel, Hamanap, and Avariel in a confident voice. "I come to offer you my service, such as it is." His scale mail is of poor quality but well-maintained, and the same can be said for his tired-looking light warhorse. He wears a heavy mace at his hip, and has a wooden lance across his back.
Put one in the library at the keep and send the other to the one in waterwend. "Sevyir?, I guess i could accept your service on Limars behalf, Leave your horse in the stable and we can talk inside." -I'm hiskel. -What are you trying to accomplish? are you hoping for some peaceful guard duty or did you want to fight in the war?

"Yes, milady," he affirms, leaving his tired horse in Wellby's care and following you inside. "I will serve however milady needs," he says proudly. "I have a good deal of experience in battle, and was trained in the knightly arts, but it is hard to find an honorable master willing to take in a hobgoblin. I have heard that milady and her comrades are more open-minded, so I thought to try my luck here. Have you need of a strong sword and able horseman, Lady Hiskel?"
