Extracting maps from PDFs?

I've been doing this for a while and, most of the time, I can find a method of extracting a map from a PDF to use on Roll20. However, I've encountered a problem with two maps from a particular PDF - every attempt to copy the map seems to scrunch the map up to a smaller size that makes it unusable. So, my "usual" process is to select the image in the PDF, hit CTRL-C and then use either Preview (on the Mac) or Gimp and create a new image from the clipboard. This has worked in the past.  When CTRL-C doesn't work, I can take a screenshot. But, for these two maps, they are too big for screenshots, and the CTRL-C method takes the map which is roughly 6x9inches and scrunches it down to about 4x.6. I don't know why. But it's unusable in that size, and doesn't stretch out well. Is there a better method of extracting maps from PDFs? Now that Roll20 allows people to upload PDFs, I was hoping I could just move the page from the uploaded PDF onto the mapping area but that doesn't work. Any ideas? Thx.

You can open a pdf with Gimp, select the specific page that contains the map, and then work from there.  I'm not sure if that will be different for you than the copy/paste method, but it is worth a shot.  It might be that the map image used in the pdf is just small/lower definition.  It might be worth a shot to do a web image search for maps for whatever adventure this is.  There may be a more usable recreation of this particular map floating around out there somewhere.
Saul, I'm not sure if this still works but I remember following The Aarons thread here to create maps with gimp.&nbsp;<a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1337473/script-walls-svg-path-importer-for-dynamic-lighting-revisited" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1337473/script-walls-svg-path-importer-for-dynamic-lighting-revisited</a>

I use Token Tool 2 to extract maps as JPG files to upload.&nbsp;
This method implies you already have a map. I'm trying to get the map out of the pdf. zero said: Saul, I'm not sure if this still works but I remember following The Aarons thread here to create maps with gimp.&nbsp; <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1337473/script-walls-svg-path-importer-for-dynamic-lighting-revisited" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1337473/script-walls-svg-path-importer-for-dynamic-lighting-revisited</a>
