OOC General Talk

I'm thinking about having Kricket sell his platemail and the gem in order to get a wand of cure wounds or some magic utility trinket. The selling should result in him having 2000 to 6000 gold. How much would these things cost, or does anyone have a suggestion as to what magic item he should buy?
There were some questions raised last session about how Kricket is still using priest spells after denouncing his god. The short version is that although it's cool to RP it, completely loosing his spell casting would result in Kricket being dead weight. A longer explanation is written below. There was some talk about how his magic would function now that he's forsaken his god. He'll be using the following spells. The Cure/Cause wound spells, Dispel Magic, Remove Curse, Summon Animal Spirit, Wyvern Watch, Enthrall, and Strength of Stone . These spells were selected from his former spell list. The theme behind his spell casting is that he strips something of its life energy or inherent magic, and uses it to cast a spell. For example, he's forced to cast cause wounds after he casts cure wounds, or visa versa. Dispel Magic and Remove Curse would be flavored as him unraveling magic, or absorbing it for one of his listed spells. Summon Animal Spirit would require the bones of an animal, or an animal sacrifice (such as breaking a rat's neck). Wyvern Watch would be acquired as a spell if he studied the draken beast (Goldfish), and either replicated it's magic or stripped it of it's enchantment. Strength of Stone is the closest thing he has to a "natural" spell. It would be flavored as a large amount of earth or stone being drawn into the creature's body. The magic would be powered by his own life source, or the ambient magic of other spells and magic items.
It's in-rules canon that priests can have no patron deity at all, and instead draw their power from their environment, or, from a concept (such as "The Sun" or "Nature"). More importantly to Kricket right now, though, is that a priest can get power from a deity that chooses the priest. Considering the relative importance of the Challengers of Destiny, most especially to those powers in the Planes that see the Challengers as actors with agency (meaning, they are people who can change the world by their decisions and actions), Kricket may have had someone else waiting for that moment that his old deity screwed him and Kricket was "open." I have a particular idea who it might be.
If I had to narrow down Kricket's concept for his religion, it would be knowledge. Specifically Knowledge of a magical nature.

Wouldn't want to see you worsen your AC. But if you obtain better armor and sell your old armor, that's fine. Magic shops aren't as available as they once were (in this continent, due to events). But I will endeavor to help you find a shop if you have money to spend and items that you want. When I sometimes say that you can "quest for magic items", this really means mainly that you might find such items in treasure hoards, after you've informed the DM that your character wants a particular item-type or something to address a known purpose, utility. PC's can also Quest for items in the intentional sense, like Swargen seeking Thor's artifacts, but generally I say "quest for items" to mean that you are treasure-hunting and the DM is aware of what items you hope to find in upcoming treasure caches. With that in mind I will make a note that Kricket is questing for Wand Of Healing and other Magic Utility Trinkets, and you might buy them if-found in a shop. If you think of any additional specific examples of Utility magic items that you might want, feel free to remind me in OOC Forum, or in game chat. P.S. I like your new transitional spell profile. I have no problem with that narrative and mechanics at this point. The imposed limitations and reasoning are understandable (considering Kricket's experiences and background). As DM my instruction is do not penalize yourself overly-much, but roleplay within the restrictions that you imposed yourself for as-long-as it makes sense in the game and adds character development, but not to the point of making your PC disempowered. It should be an arc, possibly a low trough right now, but a curved trajectory that makes a story of a growing hero-adventurer over the long run, and I think Bonez is doing a fine job of that.

Well, the reason for selling the armor is that it hasn't been effective, and it doesn't fit with Kricket's character. Walking around in full plate is shouting that he's looking for a fight. Its heavy, uncomfortable, and a pain to drag around. Its also proved to be largely useless. Number wise, Kricket is being hit as often as he would be if he were unarmed and level 1. The only reason I gave Kricket the platemail was to optimize his character, and its clear that its become almost useless. I might slap on a chain shirt or something that's light weight, but armor isn't something I want to invest in for Kricket. Giving him worse armor will encourage me to play him more carefully and thus avoid attacks that otherwise would have hit. From an item questing standpoint, it would be difficult to justify finding enchanted platemail that would fit a Kobold. Its something that is rarer then rare, and would take far too much time to have custom made or enchanted. Scrolls, wands, and utility trinkets are universal, and fit his character much more. If finding basic magic items such as scrolls, wands, potions, and trinkets are not on the market, then could Kricket trade the platemail and the gem that the Orc wizard gave him in exchange for gold? If not, he will simply toss them aside.

Bonez -- Some Potions are available to buy back in Honshar or Portlandio (not so much in Kimba Hai though, you could get some heal potions if you work into the Orc High Priest Temple network). Spell Scrolls aren't that useful in this game (due to the way high magic works in this), however there is a special category of scrolls called Protection Scrolls that are useful --- Protection From Undead, Protection From Fire, Protection From Acid, etc --- and those are also for-sale, currently priced in Portlandio around double the Encylopedia Magica prices. I'll make a list and give you some options soon. There may be trinkets of utility available for purchase too, I'll try to scan for items that might be of interest to you. AD&D 2nd Edition has thousands of items, so give me some ideas of the types of abilities/powers/utility you would want to acquire from a magic item. Let's figure out the armor change when you polymorph out of the Orc form, ok? Red Tusk and that Demon were significantly strong opponents that Kricket went toe-to-toe against. They hit you fairly easily, true, but Co-DM-Web was having some really high rolls (that I witnessed in the GM-Secret Rolls of chat). Those were boss-level opponents without a lot of backup on your side. And Natural 20 hits any AC (it happens, I witnessed Co-DM roll a couple 20's against Kricket ).

Thank you for answering my question. The suit of armor and the gem can not be sold in Kimba Hai. Kricket will discard the armor somewhere, and will shatter the gem in a discreet location that has no connection to him. He does not have the funds to by any magical items, so dont worry about making a list. On a different note. Cinder, the goldfish Draken beast has become feral due to Tanaka's loss against Red Tusk. I assume that the beast will have wandered off due to being ignored and forgotten for large amounts of time. If its still around, Kricket will kill it in its sleep and dispose of it.
Wow, Bonez is fully committed to a creepy level of despair for Kricket! *big grin* Right now Ork-Sigma is fingers-and-thumbs-deep in, trying to stabilize Kricket, after we faced our first ever demon!

The logic is fairly simple. Kricket removed the things that he considered to be threats, namely the gem he received from the orc wizard, and the pet/spy that he was given. Killing the beast was a bit extreme, but he knew full well that it's will was controlled by the mage, and thus was a risk. The gem could be used for scrying his location, or something likewise magical. The armor is just a pain to deal with, and does not fit who he is. Discarding the two valuable items was a natural move for him. He has money for his needs, and is aware of the undue attention he would receive from selling them.
I am not faulting you in any way about your decisions, Bonez! Just, as a player, I really LIKE Kricket and I don' want to see him A) gone from the group or B) become an emo downer. Kricket is awesome and I want him to stay with us. You know, the destruction of the gem & armor could be legitimately seen as sacrifices. Damn shame about the darkenbeast, though. Hate to see you lose a flying mount. Would be awfully good to learn how to make those, though.
It will be so great to have Paul back in the mix. Sigma has really missed his hammer brother.

Thor's standing is similar to that of Zeus. A brute that Kricket admires, but who's path is too different from his own. Kricket's relationship with Kurtulmak was the basis of his life's purpose, and the being that he trusted the most. Discarding that has resulted in a ripple effect in his trust in other gods, and his trust in other characters. Its not something that he can easily recover from or replace.
Chase! A name change for Kricket? Also, unrelated, but fantastic:

Bonez , Stick with it. I've always seen Kricket as our own version of Deekin Scalesinger! And yes... Thor would be a good deity for him to be in awe off. If that isn't his thing maybe he could turn too the primal spirits... Shamanism as such.

Hell, I didn't realize that he had scheduled a meeting with the party. Thanks for the feedback Bonez . We will try to make such plots, offers and agreements to come more-clear in the game chat. Guzarl the erudite wizard who appears to be a orc -- voiced by Co-DM-Web -- originally proposed something-like-that the first time you met him (in the orchard grove and wood-collecting outside Red Tusk camp), and then he expanded that agreement around the followup session with the Drik, caravan, and defeat of Red Tusk. Basically he agreed to help liberate your party (and the other captives) from Red Tusk, by attacking at the opportune time (when the trolls and ogres were demanding slaves to eat). In that co-attack you proved yourselves to Guzarl, and he followed up with offering to meet again in Kimba Hai to expand the coup. That is when he first talked about the comparison of tribal-orc divisions being safer for the wider continent, than a united orc war machine (with people like Red Tusk and the Orc Riig King and the rock orc armies in a military machine). Some of this may have gotten lost in the RP on those days Bonez ! Also some of it may have come-across in a fast-forwarded way due to trying to get to the action sequences for one-third of the playtime. Webcamparrot may be able to shed more light on this NPC and his politics, offers, alignment and appearance.

I assumed that most of the assault on the palace talk took place during the session that I missed. I was just double checking with the other players to see if I was playing catch up or if they were just as surprised as I was. In hindsight, it does make MUCH more sense on why you kept hinting at us walking up the steps to kill the orc king. Also in hindsight, there are two things that make me/Kricket not trust Guzarl. The first is that he's extremely powerful, and thus can do some serious damage on a whim. The second is that he has not given us any reason for following through on his word beyond that of keeping his word. It would be a simple matter to teleport us away after the fight to our destination... 1000 feet too high in the air. I'm also struggling to see how he intends to reward us for our efforts if he plans on teleporting us away the moment we have completed his task. It'd be odd to have a Christmas bag of goodies being handed out over the body of a slain king. On the other hand, I'm feeling like I'm beating a dead horse and dragging out the issue at hand. Sorry if it's getting on your guy's nerves.

It is understandable to have suspicions about Guzarl, and take some precautions ---- for everyone in the party, and it seems to occur to Tanaka-Kricket and hits him the hardest. In spite of the risk, still, contrive your own character's ways to stay involved in the party's adventures (however dangerous and improbable they may seem, it's possible to succeed epically for a PC who is a hero inside, in company of party-mates). It makes sense to present your situational awareness and RP cautiousness. But still embrace the challenge, and survive going over the waterfalls. You are not wrong to keep your guard-up against some unfamiliars and NPC's, Guzarl or otherwise. Just don't let fears of a possible twist, stand in the way of progressing through the quest. This thread is open for other Players to respond, just giving DM encouragement from my view. A new comic came out! I'm not intentionally posting these comics as a remark on the game -- it's just the comics are true for Roll20, that's why they are familiar to our group. I think it's a pretty good comic, so enjoy, I present to you... From http://www.uptofourplayers.com/comic/96-communicat... SAGMARIOUS GIANT-SON, what do YOU do?
Bonez said: So... was anyone else caught by surprise when Guzarl showed up to do a raid on the orc king? I knew he wanted our help, but I had no idea that we were meeting up for a direct assault. Hell, I didn't realize that he had scheduled a meeting with the party. Guzarl initially made an agreement with the party to kill the king in return for their freedom from Red Tusk. He arranged for the Ogres and Trolls to attack the caravan and free the party. After this was accomplished he then travelled with the party to Kimba-hai and told the party he would be back in a few days after he had arranged some things and after he had collected his magical staff so that an attack on the king could be carried out (I think this was the session you missed Bonez? not sure though). As for your second post here Bonez. From Guzarl's perspective he has already held up his end of the deal by saving you guys and has otherwise expressed no intentions of giving you anything. However last session the PCs were able to persuade him to help them sabotage the city of Kimba-hai after the king has been slain and the plan has changed in that Guzarl will use some sort of magic to give another player character the image of Gruumsh so that they may address the guards that inevitably turn up. Currently the intention is for Torvald to receive this disguise i believe. After this Guzarl will then teleport everyone (including himself) out of the palace to a safe location so that the party can then continue with their other plans. Guzarl was also under the influence of a zone of truth cast by Swargen during this diplomacy. I would prefer if the party did not re-address this issue during the game simply because we already spent ~2 hours discussing it last session however should the party wish to return to the issue then I am sure there will be time next session either before you enter the palace full or whilst you are inside the palace :3 Last session became pretty confusing and convoluted just due to time constraints and the amount of awesome content and work that Gold has put into this story arc. So if anyone has any questions feel free to post them here and I will try to clear things up for you.

I thought that Guzarl had declared his intention to stay in the throne room and convince the other orcs of his status as the new king. I'm glad to hear that he intends to stay with us. It makes much more sense on why Valkenhyne was so set on learning from him when we were about to be teleported way far away. As for the orc city. Does the party plan to stay around and do more spy work as orcs, or are we leaving to return to Ota Sura (The half elf/dwarf)?

Good clarifications on the Guzarl story-lines (Co-DM) Webcamparrot . Interesting material, woven between the module, the homebrew, and the players. For the upcoming: The party plans to depart Kimba Hai fairly soon (once missions accomplished, mainly stopping Lord Harlepen & the High Priests from sending troops through Harlepen Gate), and make your way back to Ota Sura's Outpost around a planned window of time, where she promised to meet you and polymorph you back to regular form. OOC meta-terms, it's been a significant accomplishment reaching this adventure & getting through the Ota Sura module, and we are moving to the next chapter of the game within the next 3 sessions or so. Playing as Orks was something I looked forward to since conceiving and launching this campaign 2-3 years ago. I always wanted to run a group through this specific Orks module (NEVER knew how it would go, how PC's would respond, or how it would be resolved), but, I wanted it to be played by a party that was already playing as "regular PC's" for a while before the Orks, so that it would feel like a Polymorph change, and then be able to change-back. To have a reason to agree to polymorph, and a desire to want to change back after. Also we embedded relationships with the aunty Ota Sura from early in the campaign, making a longer-term story arc with her, and a legitimate trust and connection. Illustration of the party, still in the form of Ota Sura's Orks, trying to make your way back to Ota Sura's Outpost that's guarded by elves. NOTE: In this picture you are the orcs in the background!! Here is the campaign Table Of Contents so far. When PC's reach 9th Level you can establish individual or collective bases, keeps, territories! ... When PC's approach 10th Level, I'm planning ahead for more adventure modules spanning Level 10-11-12-13-14-15. Global and planar adventures, or a long life of retirement. The End. Start another. * 5-6 more published modules are also blended-in to the world context, I'm not naming the titles since they are still in-play and not completed yet. Unidentified to preserve mysteries for the game. Here is a link to Adventure Modules - Tile Mosaic Of Adventures in Homebrew World a fairly interesting, prescient old thread in our game forum, introducing the campaign, where I wrote about the homebrew space in-between adventure modules, and how I intended the campaign to respond to player-character development in tailored subplots. There are Questions for Players there, asking what you think about modules. The main theory is like this picture of a globe. The colorful tiles represent the adventure modules, and the grout in between is homebrew, travel, random encounters, party play, campfire time, and subplots related to individual character's backstory, relationships, quests, motives and goals. Bonez, Cat, WickedWayz, Mat, Paul, please click the link and answer the survey questions if you like! It's from the formation of the campaign, and is meant for the DM to get to know the Players in terms of the overall campaign progression and contents. It is a Player survey about opinions/history and fore-knowledge of published adventure modules (like classic AD&D, TSR, and WoTC publications). https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1573661/player-s...

I'll put in my two cents: Neither Baradin or Torvald trust Guzarl. But both can see that his objectives have "some" merit. Torvald HATES orcs. He'd love to see all of Gruumsh's spawn die. (It maybe genocide but hell dwarves can be spiteful bastards.) However, he does realize a more civilized and peaceful orc is better... for everyone. Baradin DISLIKES orcs because their EVIL and often CHAOTIC alignments. He'd gladly help redeem them IF possible. Both realize this is an alliance of convenience. Neither Guzarl or us could pull this off alone. Look at what we're accomplishing together: Orcish hierarchies will be destroyed The Rock Orc factories will be destroyed Most of the Slaves will be freed and repatriated Krimba-Hai will be depopulated The real issue IS what happens after everything is done... Concerning future modules... I'm feeling the itch for a good ol' cavern run. Something deep underground and full of stuff.
I am happy to share this with you... the guy behind it is very nice and I really want to help this reach $5k . https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/263291121/desktophero-free-3d-printable-character-maker?ref=user_menu Please share it around wherever you think will help, would you? Thanks!

So, a sorta OOC thing, but still game related. I would love to devote myself to Swargen, and possibly Grubar. We are pretty solid on tank ability, and healing is, of course, Swargens realm for the most part. What we really need is a REAL rogue, from a regularly attending player. Rajhad is decent, but as a player, i fail miserably in the role of rogue.... I'm a "smash 'em up" kind of player. If anyone knows a friend or is willing/able to effectively play a rogue, i would love to take my slasher/healer out in the world, and leave Rajhad as our town contact/Inn maintainer.
Well I'm playing or will be playing a bard, which is you know alright at everything so... yup I've gotcha half covered bro

Welcome back Silk(s). I knew you'd return! We've thought of you often. Mor'ag The Ork-form shadowed the party through the conclusion of the quest and eventually Ota Sura's Understudy polymorphed them back into Cylara . You'll be leveling up Cylara to Witch Mage 6th Level (and well on their way towards 7th in terms of XP progress), so get ready for that. I posted some details in the Loot thread latest post , and we'll cover it individually with each PC in-game. There are some plot twists (of course) and background politics, and then we are probably going treasure hunting in some mid-level dungeons next.

Hello my friends, I've been away a while and times have been interesting. My absence is because I am one of the screenwriters and actors for THE GAMERS: THE SERIES. And, for one sequence at least, second-unit director. It has been a blast so far, but pretty intense work. It's low-budget, crowd-funded stuff so everybody does a dozen jobs. And, of course, since part of our cast and most of our crew is from Z NATION, we need to schedule things around Z NATION's production schedule. We also have some pretty neat cars for my sequence. Someone is loaning us a Bentley Continental Super Sport, and I have customized my Cobra replica as a show car (it should be on display at Gen Con). D20 shift knob of course, and the license plate CRIT HIT. I'll be one of the Guests of Honor at World Fantasy Convention next week, then back to Oklahoma for a location shoot. Any of y'all who want to come be a runner or something for crew, it'll be November 11-14th. You even get a screen credit. :) My other news is that the young adult adventure series my wife and I do, HUNTER, hit #1 on the NYT YA Ebook Bestseller List, and the second book ELITE debuted at #1 the week after that. I'm glad to see things are going great! Larry www.gryphonking.com
