SETUP: The captain looks at Nenra .. and nods .. I need you to grab Raven as well .. I want to discuss something important.  We are getting closer to the island and things always get a little rough .. When you get back to me with him I will fill you in on all the details.  Captain Luckybeard was a rough looking man but he could give a smile once in a while and that was a small comfort.  He was known for his tar bombs and for running a tight crew.  This was his fourth visit to the island with new passengers since it's discovery.
ok captain nonra walks to go get raven.
After kicking Raven awake the 2 adventurers wander back to the captain to find out what he wants.  Though having to stop while Raven pukes up his hangover over the side of the ship.
I hope you can hold on to your weapon better than you can hold yer liquor Raven.  The captain laughs at the site of him puking over the port side.   So .. you see that tall stone sticking up out of the water there .. that means we're getting close.  The captain passes the spyglass to the pair of newcomers and lets them get a good look at the giant stone fingers sticking out of the water.  He takes back the glass and continues.   Those specks you saw moving around on there are grindylow.  Nasty little half goblin half octopod creatures.  They don't like it when we come by and they hold a personal vendetta against us .. As we approach we are going to need to prepare should they attack.  Ye got any experience with these creatures?   // OOC Look at the journal entry in the player bestiary for grindylow and make the appropriate check to see what you know to tell the captain.

That's the spirit .. alright .. i want you to choose a tar bomb from my crate here .. It'll teach those Grindylow whose boss.  HIt them on the head if they get on the side of the ship but do not throw them on the deck.  We had a big fire last time.  Head to the Starboard side and watch for them to swim up as we pass by.  They are real fast swimmers and decent climbers so be prepared.  You can take a pair of these octogrip barnacles we got too and hang off the side of the ship if ye prefer and ye can get a real good view. // OOC move your tokens from the kelpie storage over to the starboard side of the ship where you would like to be. If you use the grips you should avoid falling in the water because the grips provide a big bonus to climb because they grant a climb speed.   You can find the tar bombs in the  BNW Items compendium and you can find out about climb speed on the  PRD
grabs octogrip barnacle and tar bomb then hangs on side of ship with the octogrip barnacle.
Grabs both and stands near the bow ready to stab them with his spear.
Besmara's Beard! .. the captain yells .. I must be drunk .. I meant the port side . . I've been doing this job too long ..  Perception on the rocks as we get close // Locate Handouts and use the one called Rocky Formation in the jounal under Iron kelpie missions (handout) Perception and knowledge for approaching grindylow. // I moved your tokens to the port side .. you guys did it right but i forgot there was no room up there to do a combat simulation .. my bad :) Perception Checks as the Grindylow approach and knowledge checks again now that you see them if you want a retry Don't forget to use the bestiary to describe any information you might know.
(OOC perception 15,  knowledge dungeoneering 18 max 10 untrained) I 'till don't 'ee any of t'em go''os I t'oug't you 'aid t'ey wa' 'ere for 'e to kill.
Destra rises to her feet, her crimson cloak catching in the wind. She readies a large, scarred wooden shield. The priestess stows away a tar bomb from the crate and walks to the port side and peers into the distance through the spyglass. I can't see anything through this contraption... I suppose I'll take the captain at his word... Some aquatic mongrels causing us trouble? It would be my honor to remove their kind from your presence, Captain.

Max gently puts down his guitar, and takes the octogrip barnacles and tarbomb. He heads to the side of the ship to try to catch a glimpse of these creatures. Still look like rocks to me! ((OOC Perception 11))
Rising out of the water are a couple grindylow .. they carry daggers in their mouths and javelins in their hands .. Rising up out of the water they begin to climb up the side of the boat.   You may roll attacks against them, and adjust the token's hp when you do damage just click in the green circle and type -4 for example if you do 4 damage. Then post about what happened

'o t'at is w'at em look like Raven says with a spit over board. With a mighty thrust of his spear Raven attacks the abomination crawling up the side of the ship.  The rock of the boat throws off Ravens aim as he misses a killing blow by the narrowest of margins eliciting another curse from the Holy Warriors lips. (ooc attack roll 9 damage 11 init 7.02)
The Elven Fletcher enters the scene, part of his face covered with a hood.  Tall and slender, the elvish figure reveals an aura of readiness about him.  Gear packed and equipped to his back, waist and sides. His studded armor is fastened firmly to his chest legs and wrists.  A long blade of elvish make sheathed at the back behind his rucksack and his quiver mounted across his rear waistline.  Bow in hand and remaining at ease, the magus walks to the captain.  "I'm here to help" he claims briefly, seeking to waste no time as his adventure begins.
As one of the grindylow try to clamor onto the ship, Flattus-Maximus lashes out at them with his powerful jaws, felling the beast in a single blow. (Attack roll of 18, 6 damage)

INIT: 3 Move Action: Draw Weapon Destra grips a handle at her side, listening to the foul creature clamoring up the hull of the ship in silent contemplation. No need to waste His Flame on the unworthy... Her knuckles flush white as her grip intensifies.  She pulls a massive black mace from her side, raising it to the sky for all to see. Intricate carvings in a strange tongue spiral up the weapon like a serpent, ending in a brutal head surrounded by blunted spikes. Archfiend, guide my hand!

Max moves towards the foul beast descending into his demesne. " BE GONE!" he exclaims, as he lashes out at the creature. The creature deftly dodges to the side. (Slot 1, I missed)

Next Slot 2 (9-5am EST)
// Please make sure you read the journal entry section called mission rules or the mission guide to understand initiative and combat turns
(Prepared action goes off) Max pounces on his opponent unleashing a flurry of deadly attacks, before biting it's head clean off. "They're more heading for us"  (It seems I just had the time slots mislabeled)

are you pouncing into the water??? how are you staying on the side of the ship? you cannot pounce most likely  You are welcome to pounce on grindylow that actually reach the ship level .. as of now they are all on the side of the ship. Just to clarify .. there is 1 grindylow near the top of the side of the ship about to board over the rail but still on the side  There are two grindylow on the SIDE of the ship towards the bottom climbing up There are two grindylow in the water hidden from view except a black form rising to the surface beneath the waves.
Raven moves over and trys again to stab the gridylow with his spear.  Once again missing with the barest of margins as the grindylow dodges the attack. (ooc attack roll 11 +1 with hatred of gobbos 8 damage if it had hit)
SLOT 2:  Moves to engage Grindylow Standard action Attack Destra storms to the side of the dwarven drunk and lashes out at the intruder. A solid hit to the grindylow's chest sends it reeling.(3 Damage)

Slot 3 A couple more grindylow emerge from the water while others take shots at the crew hanging from octo-grips off the side of the ship.  One manages to make it to the deck of the ship, tossing a javelin into the side of Flattus but causing only minor damage to the eidilon.  The crew is prepared and fights back with gusto Next Slot 1

With a mighty roar DEAT' TO T'E GO''O 'PAWN Raven thrusts his spear downward and finally connects with the grindylow climbing up the side of the ship. (ooc attack 15+1 for hatred and 9 damage)
SLOT 3: Attack: MISS Five foot step ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another furious swing at the goblin strikes with a thud on the side of the ship. She steps back and observes the battle around her. Time to end this farce. Destra closes her eyes and breathes deeply.
SLOT 1: "Sheathe" Heavy Mace Cast Shield of Faith on self Divine Vessel (Su) : Whenever you are the target of a divine spell, you can, as a swift action, grant each ally within 15 feet of you a divine boon. This boon grants a +2 bonus on the next attack roll, skill check, or ability check made before the end of their next turn. Destra stows away her mace and opens her eyes.  Reaching into a pouch, she pulls a small piece of parchment with strange runes inscribed on it. Clutching it tightly she raises it in the air and speaks a sinister foreign chant. The parchment turns to dust in her hand. Those with keen eyes may see a faint shimmering presence around her.

Slot 1: Max moves to the side of the ship and uses the gloves to hold on as he bites at the creature climbing up. The creature's now limp body falls in the water below. Max returns to the boat, panting... blood dripping from his maw. "These things.... Taste... Disgusting..." he says, spitting into the water and rubbing his tongue to try to get the taste off.
slot 1 With a mighty roar Raven the Holy Warrior steps to the railing of the ship, looking down he sees another grindylow climbing up the side.  With careful aim, he  spits the grindylow from throat to groin on his spear shaking it off as it falls beneath the waves never to rise again. (ooc attack 16+1 for hatred 11 for damage)
With the grindylow dispatched .. the ship is able to move without contest past the large finger-like formations in the water .. The captain gives a shout All clear.  Good work new colonists, ye might survive the island after all!  We should arrive in less than 2 days! Among the grindylow you find some treasure.  You may choose 1 of the following items (Duplication from player choices is fine) A)  Keep a pair of octogrips from the captain B) Keep a tar bomb from the captain C) Take a serrated dagger and a shortspear from a grindylow This mission is closed for combat.  Conversation may now continue until arriving at the island. after the battle nenra gos to the corner by the door and hums "what shall you do with a drunken whaler."
I'll be keeping the octogrip gloves.
Luckybeard has a new request for a new set of recruits.  He calls the recruits into his office below deck.  Nautical charts and strange instrumentation lie about the place.  A picture of a handsome woman hangs crooked on the wall.   You have been called to speak with the captain.  If you are done with starting quests and Iron Kelpie quests you may post here to begin your training mission.  Don't forget to sign up for the training mission in the Journal for Mission Sign Ups.
Shinon walked into the room feeling weird about being in the Captain's Chamber after this time at sea.  She wasn't seasick, she was homesick.  She missed the people and things from home that are now gone as she is here looking at the captain. "Good day Captain-sir, I was told you requested my presence here.  How can I help you sir?"
William step in the captain's office. At least he's not the first person entering that room. he put a little smile. "Mornin cap'n! What do you want me for, sir?"
Frerin warily enters the captain's quarters, stumbling a little from both weariness and seasickness. He sees both the paladin and the strange looking fellow with a thunderstick [ooc] the musket [/ooc] already there and suspicion enters his heart. "I'm told ye sent for me capt'n. Herefore be I." [ooc] I'm trying to create an accent for Frerin, but not the traditional "All dwarves are from Scotland" one. If it gets too confusing or just plain wrong english, please let me know and I'll try to improve/change it [/ooc]
Aha!  Three of ye ready to handle this situation!   So .. you see that tall stone sticking up out of the water there .. that means we're getting close. \\ OOC Perception 14 \\ Well it looks like a squid that I used to eat at the temple, how bad could it be!   She said with a small grin.  She was always proud of the way that she handled herself during situations that are not in her control.  She looked at her sword and shield with a glimmer of hope.  The crest on her shield was of her Deity and that always made her proud.  Her training in the church has prepared her for this.  This is one fight she can't lose!  She hasn't even made it over to the new world yet!
