Luckybeard's Request

Jec squinting where the captain was pointing. grunted. I dont see them just the out cropings and having come from far inland where there are lots of plains i do not know of these Grindylow. However if they can be hit i can kill them.
Michael has heard of Grindylow, but really don't know much about them.  He will do his best to keep them off the ship though.
Michael asks Sir, can you tell us a bit about these "Grindylow" are there things we should know about them if they choose to engage us?  how many of them will there be?  what tactics will they use?  what weapons?  are their hides worth anything? are they good to eat?  well maybe not that last one...well okay  that last one as well...  anything you can tell us might give us an advantage late on.

Aladriel stands by, listening to the proceedings, concerned at the lack of knowledge his companions seem to have of the world. Knowing the answers to all of Michael's questions, Aladriel continues to keep his peace. If push comes to shove, he is confident that he can fight them efficiently himself, and hopes his companions can pick up his tactics quickly enough in a combat circumstance.
/ooc Did you make checks?  If so, I can't see any rolls.  You have to post your rolls in the thread.
OOC:   sorry my roll was a 10.  It was done in the VTT.
OOC: Updated previous post where I described my rolls with the exact rolls I got.
Oh well, they still die whether you recognize them or not.. I want you to choose a tar bomb from my crate here .. It'll teach those Grindylow whose boss. HIt them on the head if they get on the side of the ship but do not throw them on the deck. We had a big fire last time. Head to the Port side and watch for them to swim up as we pass by. They are real fast swimmers and decent climbers so be prepared. You can take a pair of these octogrip barnacles we got too and hang off the side of the ship if ye prefer and ye can get a real good view. // OOC move your tokens from the kelpie storage over to the port side of the ship where you would like to be. If you use the grips you should avoid falling in the water because the grips provide a big bonus to climb because they grant a climb speed. You can find the tar bombs in the BNW Items compendium and you can find out about climb speed on the PRD

Aladriel reveals himself to the captain, taking a pair of octogrips, and heading to the tar bomb crate, then making his way to position himself off the side of the ship without hesitation, just flipping over and climbing down to a good spot. With the octogrips on and his tar bombs, he appears ready to take on the full count of grindylow. Tar Bomb at the ready, he waits for the first to appear before him. Ready Action to throw tar bomb when a grindylow boards the side of the ship: Attack: 23 Damage: 2 Climb Check on the side of the ship is 20 taking 10 with grips on.

Michael takes some Octigrips, and 2 tar bombs,  he checks to see if it is fit to be thrown by his staff sling, instead of hanging off the side he gets up on the forecastle and near the side, that way he can look down the whole side of the ship for the little monsters.    He stands ready should he see one climbing up on the ship he will lob a sling stone at it while it's on the wall.     OOC: Perception 22. To hit 15,  damage 4 for the sling.

Valkor walks into the captains office looking rather tired and irritated being stuck on a boat when he just wants the freedom to explore,  and asks if he get a tarbomb and octogrips too to help fight.

Valkor casts Long Arms, and the people in the room can hear the whir of the nanites in his blood getting to work melting, moving, and rearranging the cells in his arms causing them to stretch and tear and extend and they continue this process until his arms have what must be an extra five feet of length to them causing his body to look completely off putting and quite alien looking. And then next turn readies himself to trip the enemies as they climb onto the boat. OOC: 13 for readied trip

Besmara's Beard! .. the captain yells ..  How many are there?  They've never come in numbers like this before! Perception on the rocks as we get close // Locate Handouts and use the one called Rocky Formation in the jounal under Iron kelpie missions (handout) Perception and knowledge for approaching grindylow. // OOC Perception Checks as the Grindylow approach and knowledge checks again now that you see them if you want a retry Don't forget to use the bestiary to describe any information you might know.

Slot 1: As the first of the creatures approach the boat, they see you with weapons drawn waiting for them.  Three of them launch spears toward the party, but all miss due to their caution (All are outside the first range increment and fail).  One climbs over the side, stabbing Michael with his spear (ATK 21, DMG 4), while the final grindylow attempts to engage Faorit, but misses. //OOC take your readied actions, then your Slot 1 actions
As the Grindylow clambers up the prow of the ship towards him Michael puts a sling bullet  into the joint of it's neck and shoulder.  it's not enough to put the beast down but he does hurt it, not enough to keep it from catching him in the side with it's spear, but it's something...Michael draws his rapier and skewers the disgusting creature through the throat.   OOC:   to hit AC 18 Damage 3   roll said 7 because I had dex listed as the damage modifier...I've fixed that.
Aladriel waits for his time, the grindylow in his area haven't entered his range yet, and he doesn't want to chance wasting a bomb in the water. ((Keeping previous readied action, no change. Also, I am confused as to how all the grindylow threw their spears that far, the spears have 20 foot range?))
//ooc they can throw them as far as they want.  Only one hit, because he was the only one within the normal range increment, so he took no negatives.
Valkor sees a slimy octopus freak climb onto the ship and runs over to trip it.
Attempts to trip the monster, but as he hits its many sloshing legs its suckers cling to the boat, giving it the strength to defend against the attack.

Slot 2: The grindylow gather the courage to mount their attacks, with the first striking a powerful blow at Faorit (Attack 16, Damage 7), putting the sorceror down on the deck.  The 2nd beast stabs at Michael again, missing.  The third climbs the side of the ship in an effort to reach Aladriel, but get's a face full of fire for it's effort.  Blinded by the flame, it misses a wild stab at the man hanging off the side of the ship.  The 4th grindlyow finishes his climb and begins to close the distance to Jec, while the final beast charges Valkor, only to eat a guisarme as it stepped inside his magically extended reach.

Aladriel pounds the grindylow's face with a perfectly aimed tar bomb, and gracefully flips up over the railings of the ship to assess the battle, and escape from his pursuer's attacks. Once on the ship, he takes stock, and prepares to ruin the day of some or other grindylow. He heads for the captain, and prepares to throw a dagger at the grindylow who was fighting him on the side of the ship, if it were to come up after him. A sling bullet, and stab to the throat was all it took for that grindylow, it drops it's spear and claws at the welter of fetid blood gushing from the ruin in its throat.  Michael  pushes the grindylows body out of the way and sees  another standing, uh...what to they call an ocoto body doing besides stainding...tentacling? over the body of a passenger,   He takes a large step towards it and falls into a text book Lunge, taking the creature just to the left of it's sturnum, the point slides in deep, he feels the resistance change as it passes through multiple different tissues,     OOC:   to hit AC 23 for 5 points of Damage.

Aladriel, after putting a dagger in his previous-assailant, rushes to michael's aid, and launches his dagger at the grindylow grappling him, striking it true, and watches silently as it's life fades away, and anyone listening closely (Perc check at GM discretion) can hear him say "May you find eternal torment in the 8th." With the grindylow dispatched .. the ship is able to move without contest past the large finger-like formations in the water .. The captain gives a shout, All clear! Good work new colonists, ye might survive the island after all! We should arrive in less than 2 days! Among the grindylow you find some treasure. You may choose 1 of the following items (Duplication from player choices is fine) A) Keep a pair of octogrips from the captain B) Keep a tar bomb from the captain C) Take a serrated dagger and a shortspear from a grindylow This mission is closed for combat. Conversation may now continue until arriving at the island. That will be indicated by the closing of the Iron Kelpie Thread and Re-opening of it at the next phase Please continue to role play here and post the reward you have chosen List this reward in your inventory.
OOC: Octogrips
Aladriel gives the captain the tar bombs he took, and keeps the octogrips as offered. He also goes to each of the grindylow he thre a dagger into and retrieves his weapons. He nods respect to the guisarme-wielding man who fought well with him on the ship, and then, unphased by the bodies piled around, once again takes a seat against the wooden wall of the railing, and waits for someone to approach.
Valkor stretches and is beaming, clearly this is just what he needed to get rid of that pesky cabin fever. Finally able to use his fighting muscles. And walks over to Michael, "You fought pretty well, what brings you onto this here boat?"
Michel looks at his spear, look at the bombs..looks at the octogrips... I think I'll keep the Octogrips...  he then throws down the spear and put the grips in with his gear.
Michael looks up with a start.... Oh, sorry...loot tends to grab my attention quite handily.  Thanks!  if there is one thing I like more than loot is fightin'.  Man, whats the deal with your arms?  looks to me like they were 5ft long a little while ago.  that's neat trick where did you learn that?
I did not learn it, I am actually a sorcerer, I just like to fight with my hands more than just shooting spells, much more exciting, I am sure you can understand. Valkor smiles, seeing another with a passion for fighting.
the next 2 days go by idly for Michael,  He patches his wounds and has the ships surgeon look at them.  he then mainly rests in as comfortable a spot as he can find.     OOC:  good rest and Healing, should give me back the 5 HP I lost in the fight.  2/day for good rest and dedicated healer.
when land comes in sight Michael gets excited, he is ready to get off this ship and see what the future holds,  it takes him a while to get all of his stuff unloaded,  what with the carpenters tools and all,  but the air is clean, and it's a new world to explore.

Dreeth stands there uneasy at the sight that happened before him.  he slides the musket behind his back and looks at the Squid creatures before him unfamiliar with the origins. "Er...good job guys?" He says more to himself then to anyone around him as he examines the creature.   Dreeth spends his time either watching the stars or sitting with the lounging crew members sharing his story crossing a desert.  only rarely does he speak to his fellow passengers only to squeeze by or  give an apology.  upon spotting land Dreeth seemed abit uneasy with what he saw thus far wondering if it was worth the trip. Shrugging he Whistles his melody and stands at the Front edge of the ship watching the island grow steadily bigger. /ooc I'll skip the reward for jumping in late.  And I'll just follow suit with Shane.
