SLOT 3: The final remaining grindylow panics as the last of his comrades is taken down. He tried to run and throw a spear at Sellion before he jumps over the side, but as soon as he breaks for it Kiba snaps at one of the tentacles, landing a solid bite (ATK: 23 DMG: 5). Not only that, but Sellion was quick to slash at his back! (ATK: 24 DMG: 9) The grindylow weakly managed to make it to the starboard rail before collapsing dead.

(Bleed out 1 HP, at -3.) A puddle of blood begins forming under Saisei.
(Stabilized on DC 10) After a few moments, the bleeding stops. Whether for good or ill, the blood rush has stopped from the tiny woman.
Sellion sighs as he finally put down the wretched beast, looking over to notice Saisei on the ground as he rushed over to help provide aid to her. Once arriving he would then begin to start casting a spell, preparing up Cure Light Wounds to cast as he began to chant the spell. All the meanwhile, Kiba followed her owner, limping slightly until she then saw the large rat seeming a bit intimidated at first.. but then licking her lips as she remembered she was hungry.

As Sellion finishes the last Grindylow, Puddles stands over the unconscious woman, and pours a potion down her throat I hope that wizard didn't cheat me out of THIS formula . As she awakens, he steps back, and puts the vial back into his pack to be sanitized later. ((cure light for 4 brings you up to 1 HP for SaiSei))
A gurgled cry comes from Saisei as she coughs on the last dregs of the potion. Her arms seem to be trying to push something heavy off of her chest, and failing. In the instant her eyes open, the fingers lurch from her chest to her recently-wounded thigh. She tries to spring up into a sitting position, but the human woman is forced to do it twice, the second one much slower. Saisei puts pressure on the wound, chanting, "No-nono-no, not again. I'm not done! Not so soon!" Only after several long moments of pressing does she begin feeling - and realizing that beneath the blood, the wound has mostly sealed. She starts clearing away the blood with her hands, cleaning it for a better look-see. She startles to see such progress. Still breathing heavily, Saisei darts her head around the deck, searching for an explanation. She hadn't expected the leopard and elf so close. Further, the ratfolk man was completely new to her. "What happened?"
The ratfolk looks over to the elf expectantly.

Sellion would finish chanting, leaning down to touch her gently on the cheek with a smile " I am glad to see you are alright.. it seems the Grindylow managed to catch you off guard and got the better of you. " As his hand was placed against her, she could feel her strength coming back slowly and more of her wounds beginning to heal, Kiba would also nuzzle against her as she could tell her owner was trying to help the girl feel better. " This man here helped you as well.. while I was busy fending off the other he blew up the one who harmed you and gave you a potion before I could get over here to help you. " Sellion would then motion to the Ratman. ( Sellion heals Saisei for 8 points )
The ratfolk nods silently, and motions for his friend to return belowdeck.
// OOC make sure to wrap this up today so these players can sign up for missions and join in on PHASE 1 tomorrow.
A sharp exhalation is often the best way to brace yourself during a magical healing, and Saisei demonstrates one now. Sort of the reverse of clenching your teeth during pain, it allows you to avoid awkward muscle regrowth with a lowered diaphragm and expanded chest. Saisei has many memories of such necessary healing. Her shoulder knits back together under the torn garment, and she flexes some of the pain away. Looking between the elf and the ratman in rapid succession, Saisei gave a sigh of relief. "You're both wonderful healers." She shifts her formerly wounded leg to ensure that it had closed up completely, as well. The woman throws one arm around Sellion's neck in a quick hug, and scoops each of Kiba's ears with the other free hand. "And thank you, sir," she offers to the ratfolk. It's clear that she would have hug him now had she not be currently surrounded by a cat and its owner. She begins lifting herself up; a lower centre of gravity helps with that. "Lead the way," she offers to Puddles, who was between her and the hatch.
The ratman walks back down the stairs, and to the door he had just come sprinting out of. Looking around the ship, he shouts "Seems all clear captain. I told you they didn't need my help, the only one to earn a scar was the kitten. We've just passed the rocks, should be clear sailing from here...... no leave my pets alone.... yes they're pets, do they look like ratfolk? no, i didn't think so. They're like horses, but better. " After his short conversation with the captain, he smiles up at the other two, and then heads below-deck.
Sellion laughs glad to see she is doing well as he returned the hug whilst Kiba enjoyed the attention and purred. As she got up to test her leg, Sellion began to chant again this time for Kiba as he attempted to heal her wounds as well before they began to follow the ratfolk to report back to the captain. Upon administering the spell and petting his precious feline, the cuts that Kiba had disappeared and she returned to full strength as well, licking her owners hand and purring happily as he then picked her up and looked to the others. " It seems everyone is patched up now, shall we go report back to the captain? " With that he would then follow Saisei and Puddles back to the captain. ( Sellion heals Kiba for 6 points )
With the grindylow dispatched .. the ship is able to move without contest past the large finger-like formations in the water .. The captain gives a shout, All clear! Good work new colonists, ye might survive the island after all! We should arrive in less than 2 days! Among the grindylow you find some treasure. You may choose 1 of the following items (Duplication from player choices is fine) A) Keep a pair of octogrips from the captain B) Keep a tar bomb from the captain C) Take a serrated dagger and a shortspear from a grindylow This mission is closed for combat. Conversation may now continue until arriving at the island. That will be indicated by the closing of the Iron Kelpie Thread and Re-opening of it at the next phase Please continue to role play here and post the reward you have chosen List this reward in your inventory.
Octogrips plz
( Sellion is taking the Octo Grips, those can come in handy in the future. )
(Saisei will take the serrated dagger) After the captain had had his say, the small 'crowd' is quickly dispersing. The moment to act is now, short of an awkward re-introduction at a later date. Saisei catches up with the departing elf and snags his sleeve. In a former life, she may have tapped him on the shoulder. The angle is much too low, now. "Hey, wait up,"  she asks, the request clear in her voice. "You have a minute?"
Sellion turned to Saisei, his arms wrapped around his tired kitten as she was starting to doze off in his arms after the tiring battle as he smiled to her " Of course, I don't have many other plans or places to go currently. " He then chuckled to her, a slight tease since they were still stuck on the boat. " What is it you wished to talk about? "

"Well," Saisai replied earnestly, "I do have places to go. I'm headed to some spit of land to which I've never been, and might never leave. And I almost just died." Reviewing her wounds, she realizes that the holes are hardly fashionable. Who wants to look like a vagabond? A green light appears in her palm as she hovers her hand over the shoulder opening, and the weave starts to mend. "And you casually saved my life and went on with your day." With her top mended, she starts leaning over to fix her leg. "I'm not going to ignore that kind of kindness if this is what I'm going to be facing, day in, day out."

Sellion chuckled " Well if you put it that way.. I am headed to a similar destination with a possibly similar fate. " He then watched as she mended her outfit, not seeming to surprised with it as they were both magic users to an extent. He then smiled to her as she spoke of him saving her " If you are speaking of repaying me, you don't need to repay me for such. How could I sit by and allow such creatures to harm someone so kind? It would of been wrong of me not to aid you so I don't seek any payment for it. I just merely wished to help you is all as there are many dangers in the world.. especially in one of the many wild and untamed places like the sea. "
"No, I get that," Saisei insists, raising a palm by her head. "I used to know -- people that did it on a regular basis. I know its worth is not grandiose. It's just - "   She will have to figure out a replacement phrase for this metaphor, "The gesture is what spoke volumes to me." Saisei reached out gently to stroke Kiba with a timid strength as to not wake her. "Wilderness, I know. It's the lack of friendly faces that'll do me in. I don't want my only conversations to be at some trader drinking hall. I'm used to the same faces all the time and rare strangers, not the other way 'round." Saisei looks way up at the average-height elf. "We have two days on this ship, and all of what, six or seven souls on board? And four making the return trip?"
Sellion smiles " I understand what you mean, about not knowing anyone in the land we are headed and if its conversation you are worried about, well we are headed to the same place so at the very least you will have one stranger that you know. " As she pet Kiba, soft little purrs would come from the kitten as she rested in her owners arms. " If you wish to know at least one friendly face, I will be happy to keep you company and talk throughout the rest of our journey till we arrive on land. I don't have much else planned anyways besides fishing for Kiba and the crew. "
There is a smile creeping along Saisei's lips. Everybody had been a stranger to her, until recently. She appears to prepare for some sort of elaborate hand gesture, but changes it into a simple and small bow. "I am Saisei. Just Saisei. Your name is...?"

Sellion smirks as he teased her  " Well.. ' Just Saisei ' it is a pleasure to meet you, my name is Sellion, Sellion Talaviir and this adorable little bundle of fur.. is travelling companion Kiba. " He then chuckled and continued to smile to her " So.. what brings you on this journey? "
"Nice to meet you, Sellion."  There was a taste of something sylvan in that name, but maybe it was just its vague proximity to Elven. She shakes her head and shrugs. "Stone nothing brings me here. Absolute zilch behind me, and no place felt like home. I figured I'd make a home for myself, instead." It was probably the first time Saisei'd said it out loud, to be fair, but it sounded weird to say. Memories to be forgotten or bronzed. "You?"
" To travel the lands, see the world and the beautiful landscapes and creatures that inhabit it.. all the meanwhile promoting peace and prosperity between man and animal, civilization and nature. It will never be a total peace as they both need to survive off of one another because of the circle of life.. but peace enough where the two can live in harmony without one outright destroying the other and ruining its habitat. "  After that, Sellion smiled softly as if fantasizing and picturing what that would be like. " That is what brings me here, if that means I will stay forever and settle down as my home is to still be determined by what the future brings, but that is my reason. "
As Sellion monologues, Saisei goes quiet and still. She nods along very subtly, as one might while helping an actor memorize lines. She has a soft, knowing smile, which could look strange on someone so small and young. "It isn't that crazy of an idea," she admits. "It can be done. All depends on what you count as 'civilization' and what the civilization accounts for itself. I've seen it done, in small places. Small, self-sufficient, open air, save for the spaces that act as shelter..." She trails off, looking at the ocean. Saisei breathes deep. Saisei exhales. Saisei looks back. "Yeah. I think we'll get along well."
Sellion would the notice her trail off and look out into the vast ocean, gazing out into and taking a deep breath before returning back to her thought. It would create a look of curiosity as he gazed at her before he pulled out a bag, taking out a single copper piece and holding it out with a teasing smile. " You seemed to have trailed off a bit there.. a copper for your thoughts? "
Saisei saw the copper, smiled, but curled his hand up with it still inside. "Another time. Sad stories ruin a first meeting, I'm told. Let's not spoil it." She tilted her head and pointed with it to the sleeping cat. "How did you come across her? Exotic species like her don't live near that old harbour."
Sellion nodded " Very well, a story for another time then. " He then placed the copper back in his pocket before going back to holding his precious kitten, looking down to her with a smile. " I came across Kiba in the wild during my travels.. she had lost her mother and I took her in and took care of her. From there.. we became travelling companions. She has traveled with me since then and she has started to view me like family to her. "
Vague, but to the point. Saisei could get behind that. "But," she questioned, " How do you string her along a trip like this?" She made a broad motion with her hand at the wrist.  "A barrel of salted meat, purified daily? Something conjured?"
Sellion smiles " I have been catching fish for her daily, also I can keep food from rotting for.. really as long as I wish.. so when I hunt I can hunt for two of us and whatever extra we have I can keep fresh. I also can create as much water as I will ever need.. so I keep us both from going thirsty as well. I essentially have all the powers and skills to keep us from ever going hungry as long as there are animals or fish to eat nearby. "

Saisei bangs her forehead gently with her palm. "Ah-la-la, of course fishing ." She looks a bit disappointed with herself. "Where I'm from, the biggest river is about as wide as this boat, if that. There was hardly enough for the bears, let alone us. We - they - grew vegetables to great sizes in order to feed everyone, and the deer." Saisei looks out over the ocean again. "I've been swimming aplenty, but lakes and rivers don't come close to this."
Sellion laughs softly, seeming a bit amused by her slight mistake though seeming not to tease her about it.  " Well.. you might have to get used to it. If this place is anything like what I had read about it.. its going to be an island.. so lots of ocean all around us from all sides. Which means you won't be missing out on fish anymore.. if anything you might get tired of it after awhile.. depending on what there is to hunt on this island. "  He then looked out into the ocean, seeing if he could see the island in the distance " So what you planning to do once we get on the island? "
"No hard plans," Saisei admits. "Having my whole life revolve around something ended poorly for me last time." She points downward and to the stern. "Down in my cabin, I have a harp. Was a gift, and I have a mind to learn it, eventually. Other than that," with a wave of her hand, Saisei lifts the top of her belt pouch with telekinesis and magically lifts out a few wooden beads. "Work on my crafts, become that crazy old hermit witch? Some of my powers are new, others recently changed."

Sellion chuckles " My.. you keep laying down little hints at your past and you may force me to bother you about it.. us Elves can be a curious bunch. " He watched as she lifted the wooden beads with her magic and they floated in the air, seeming intrigued by it. " Crazy old hermit witch huh? Have room for a old hermit woodsman as well? "
Saisei lets the woodsman comment sit for a moment. At some point, her barriers had to fall. "Short version," she announced. "A fire happened. No known source. Stuff burned. Good people died." She was certainly getting heated. "This really the way you want this relationship to start?"

Sellion frowned at that " Didn't mean to push.. was only teasing.. my apologies for that.. and I am sorry to hear that.. you have my deepest condolences. I will not push or tease any further on the subject. " After that Sellion seemed to go a little quiet, seeming to feel bad as he didn't mean to upset her at all.
Saisei took the moment to cool off. She paced around the ship's perimeter a couple times, likely setting even the captain on edge. Usually this was a walk in the woods, but today it had to be a walk on the wood. Fine. Whatever. After she lost some energy, she came back. "Look," she offered. "It's still fresh and now you have an idea of the big empty what I'm leaving behind. Let's just start fresh tomorrow and see where things go from there. Two days is still a lot of time."

Sellion would seem a tad confused as she paced around, hoping his slight tease didn't make her to angry at him. Whilst she continued to pace around the ship, Sellion relaxed with Kiba as he petted the sleeping kitten as he finally took a moment to rest a little after the fight they had. After a bit, he would notice Saisei walk back in and before he could ask if she is alright, she began to speak and he listened to every word she had to say before replying. " Again, my apologies.. I didn't mean to bring up back thoughts or memories with my jest. I do apologize greatly and I hope you can forgive me. If you wish for some time to collect your thoughts and rest from the stressful day, I will be here to speak more tomorrow. " He then gave a slight bow to her after he apologized " I wish you a goodnight sleep and pleasant dreams. "
Luckybeard has a new request for a new set of recruits. He calls the recruits into his office below deck. Nautical charts and strange instrumentation lie about the place. A picture of a handsome woman hangs crooked on the wall. You have been called to speak with the captain. If you are done with starting quests and Iron Kelpie quests you may post here to begin your training mission. Don't forget to sign up for the training mission in the Journal for Mission Sign Ups.
Aladriel enters the cabin casually, something rarely seen thus far on the ship, as his usual tendency is stealth and avoidance of notice. He waits for others to arrive.
Michael comes in right behind Aladriel, he looks around the cabin till he finds a place to sit with his back to the wall and where he can see the door and the rest of the room.
SETUP: The captain looks up as Alxriel and Michael enter and nods .. I am happy to see you responded quickly.  But isn't there one more of you?.. I want to discuss something important. We are getting closer to the island and things always get a little rough .. When you get back to me with him I will fill you in on all the details. Captain Luckybeard was a rough looking man but he could give a smile once in a while and that was a small comfort. He was known for his tar bombs and for running a tight crew. This was his seventh visit to the island with new passengers since it's discovery.
Aladriel nods to the captain, and looks at Michael, motioning towards the door, and waits for him to leave first.
Michael, who was checking out the cabin while listening to the Captain gets up, bows and follows Aladriel out the door.
Jec knocks before entering the cabin. Sorry Capt first time on a ship. Got myself turned around for a second.
Michael enters back in after helping Jec find his way to the cap't office.
So .. you see that tall stone sticking up out of the water there .. that means we're getting close. The captain passes the spyglass to the pair of newcomers and lets them get a good look at the giant stone fingers sticking out of the water. He takes back the glass and continues. Those specks you saw moving around on there are grindylow. Nasty little half goblin half octopod creatures. They don't like it when we come by and they hold a personal vendetta against us .. As we approach we are going to need to prepare should they attack. Ye got any experience with these creatures? // OOC Look at the journal entry in the player bestiary for grindylow and make the appropriate check to see what you know to tell the captain.

Aladriel, having snuck in behind the two, was not surprisingly ignored, and recognized the name the captain used to describe the monsters. His average level of academic dungeoneering knowledge telling him a good bit about the creatures. However, Aladriel sees no reason to tell any of the others what he knows, and simply sits by, listening to the others talk amongst themselves. Perc: 6 K;Dung: 22
