Luckybeard's Request

Shinon grabs the grips and puts it on.   Why wouldn't I put this one!   She said with a smile as she grabbed one of the tar bombs and holds onto it with her main hand.   I would rather have my sword in hand, but I know this might help keep them off the ship.

Frerin : Perception Check 26 "Aye, I sees the damn things...I heard tell stories of them before. Vicious beasties they are, to be sure. Still, I reckon we can take care of these squid fellows." Frerin grabs a few (3) of the Tar bombs and readies his crossbow. For a few seconds he judges the wind and the range, getting ready for his shot. "I'll be dammed 'fore I get caught hangin' by the sides of a ship, stick barnacles or not. I'll stay here, in firm ground...Well, firmer, anyhow." [OOC] Yeah, sorry for the late post too. Rising out of the water are a couple grindylow .. they carry daggers in their mouths and javelins in their hands .. Rising up out of the water they begin to climb up the side of the boat. You may roll attacks against them, and adjust the token's hp when you do damage just click in the green circle and type -4 for example if you do 4 damage. Then post about what happened
[OOC] Perception 19 + 10 = 29 Knowledge History 10 Knowledge Dungeoneering 14[/OOC] I see them, Grindlows sure enough! They are atop these marble oucrops with plants all over them. We have a rough patch ahead, no mistaking that. Those crittters will be coming this way soon, angry little creatures that they are. Frerin watches intently on the spyglass, awaiting for a change in behaviour from the creatures. He is intrigued by the appearance of marble outcrops on the sea, as it is not a common feature of this kind of environment. Nonetheless, this can wait for finishing this Grindlows business.

This spyglass is great, should attach one of these in my musket! Hmmm, I see some movement there too, some little blue things. Meanwhile, 2 grindylows rising to the surface Holy s#%t! They already this close to the boat! Kid drop the spyglass and aim his musket at one grindylow near the red bearded dwarf. He pulls his trigger just at the right time,  sparks and smoke come out of the muzzle making a very loud bang. the bullet hit the grindylow's head and then he down to the bottom of the sea for good. One down cap'n, one down. The kid smiles, seeing his first target killed in one shot. //ooc attack 25, damage 10 if i decrease the hp for one grindylow the other one decrease too, so i just mark the dead one with red dot//
Shinon looked at the distance to the ugly little things from her.   I can't do anything from here.  They are too far away right now!   She decided to move forward some just so she would be able to reach the ugly little things if they did make it up to the boat.   \\OOC Movement 20ft to be able to attack next turn \\
Slot 2 (9am-5pm EST) Two more of the grindylow emerge from the water, climbing up the sides of the boat. One of the original sea goblins raises its javelin tossing it upward but lacks the force to get a solid blow on his target. Move shapes move in the water to the port side of the ship. When will the tide of grindylow end? Next Slot 3 (5pm-1am EST)

One grindylow rises from the water right in front of him. In response, Kid drops his Kneecaper and quickly draws his other musket. This one is loaded and ready to fire. So he just pulls the trigger, not really aiming for it. Fortunately the bullet lands again, killing the monster. "Two down now, fellas! Next time wouldn't be as easy though, 'cause I need to reload!"  //ooc attack 23, damage 9//
Slot 3: Two Grindylow climb up the side of the ship, the first throws a spear at William from the bow, missing horribly as a swell throws the deck sideways.  The second grabs William with his tentacles (CMB 20), pulling him to the deck (Tripped).  The third beast throws a spear from the water, hitting Frerin (Attack 20, Dmg 3) a glancing blow and begins climbing the side.

Right after he shot the second grindylow, he felt something wrap around his ankle. Kid knocked prone. With anger and vengeance, Kid uses his precious catridge to reload fast. He then shoot the grindylow in front of him at point blank range. The shot destroyed the grindylow. Body parts rolling around, head and tentacles cluttered on the floor and blood flooded the deck.  "How dare you? You fu@#in piece of s#@t pulled me to the floor! Now you're pulled to hell for all I care!" "Anyone, protect me please while Im being prone like this! Standing in front of me would be a good start." //OOC ATTACK 21-4(5ft range)=17,  DAMAGE 10, i use paper catridge to reload with just a move action. you can shoot firearms without penalty while prone.(even if i get -4 penalty the monster still died tho cause firearms deal touch attack) //
Kid stands up and reloads his musket with blackpowder. He's just hoping the gore that scattered all over the floor scare the fu#k out of them and make them run.  "Just go you foul creatures! or you'll end up like your friend up here!"

The two remaining grindylow turn to look back at the outcrop, tilting their heads as if they hear something.  Then both slip into the waves are are gone. //ooc The training mission is over.  The creatures have been recalled to the outcrop.
With the grindylow dispatched .. the ship is able to move without contest past the large finger-like formations in the water .. The captain gives a shout, All clear!   Good work new colonists, ye might survive the island after all! We should arrive in less than 2 days! Among the grindylow you find some treasure. You may choose 1 of the following items (Duplication from player choices is fine) A) Keep a pair of octogrips from the captain B) Keep a tar bomb from the captain C) Take a serrated dagger and a shortspear from a grindylow This mission is closed for combat. Conversation may now continue until arriving at the island. That will be indicated by the closing of the Iron Kelpie Thread and Re-opening of it at the next phase Please continue to role play here and post the reward you have chosen List this reward in your inventory.

Cap'n, may i take the octogrip? I know i don't use it for dangling onto the ship's side, but i think it maybe useful for getting into higher ground to snipe some enemies.
Shinon, confused and kind of disappointed that she wasn't able to attack the things that was trying to kill them nodded.   Thank you sir.  I think I'll keep the octogrips if that would be alright.   She said as she walked back to her items and put it into her sack.
[OOC] Sorry for not participating. I'm having trouble with the VTT, because every time I try to open it, it says I'm disconnected from the server. I have no idea whats happening, since it worked before and nothing has changed from my side. That's a bummer though, for I was really looking forward for this mission.... [/OOC] Frerin finally stopped heaving. Looking through the spyglass on a rocking ship and concentrating on aiming his crossbow proved too much for his seasickness and he was incapacitated for the whole fight. "Blarf...I won't be getting to fights again on the sea no more. No offence meant capt'n, but this whole seafaring business ain't for me. Solid ground beneath my feet, I like. Stone, grass and firm dirt. I shan't be taking no reward though, for I did nothin'. If the others don't mind, I'd take this serrated dagger as a souvenir to remember me to not ever come back to this forsaken marble-islet." With an unsteady gaint, Frerin limped back to his cabin to nurse himself back into a decent shape.
Luckybeard has a new request for a new set of recruits. He calls the recruits into his office below deck. Nautical charts and strange instrumentation lie about the place. A picture of a handsome woman hangs crooked on the wall. You have been called to speak with the captain. Upon hearing the commotion and the recruits walking below deck, the curious Elf would follow seeing if he could figure out was going on as he held Kiba close and followed the recruits down into office. Once inside he would look around the office, noticing the interesting pictures and charts that were on the walls. Once finished gazing, Sellion would look to the Captain and speak softly as he held Kiba " My apologies for intrusion Captain, but is something going on? "
SETUP: The captain looks at Sellion .. and nods .. I need you to grab the other passengers as well .. I want to discuss something important. We are getting closer to the island and things always get a little rough .. When you get back to me with him I will fill you in on all the details. Captain Luckybeard was a rough looking man but he could give a smile once in a while and that was a small comfort. He was known for his tar bombs and for running a tight crew. This was his seventh visit to the island with new passengers since it's discovery.
A little rough is right. For the first time in their two week journey, Saisei is starting to feel at-odds with the boat's movement. Until now, the salt spray was a welcome feeling. Today, the choppiness makes her stomach turn. She gently grabs secured handholds as she makes her way down from the top deck to the hold and into the captain's office. The cramped space is somewhat foreboding. Saisei slips into and out of the doorway. "Pardon my intrusion, but 'closer?' And you need something from us?" Her timid question marks her as incredulous.

So .. you see that tall stone sticking up out of the water there .. that means we're getting close. The captain passes the spyglass to the pair of newcomers and lets them get a good look at the giant stone fingers sticking out of the water. He takes back the glass and continues. Those specks you saw moving around on there are grindylow. Nasty little half goblin half octopod creatures. They don't like it when we come by and they hold a personal vendetta against us .. As we approach we are going to need to prepare should they attack. Ye got any experience with these creatures? // OOC Look at the journal entry in the player bestiary for grindylow and make the appropriate check to see what you know to tell the captain.
( Perception: 23, Dungeoneering: 21 ) Sellion takes the spy glass, looking through it and taking a look at the creatures able to see a general description but not much else as they were moving around to much. He does recall a bit of information though that he relays to the captain. " Yes, The Grindylow are very much like their kin on the land the goblins except for the lower half of their body which is covered in tentacles, otherwise they are just as mischievous. Stay on land when fighting them and don't try to get to close to them if you can, they excel at fighting in water but they are very clumsy on land, they also love to use their lower half to tangle up people in their tentacles. They will most likely be fighting with their tentacles and spears.. so close combat will be quite difficult.. and I can tell you why you have so much trouble with them captain, they are known for being incredibly violent, sadistic, and merciless even more so than their goblin kin on the land.. which is definitely something to be said about these nasty creatures. "

(Perception 18, Dungeoneering 10) The spyglass is handled gingerly by Saisei. She had used magnifying lenses in a past life, to make small things large. This is her first time using it for distance. It is an interesting prospect - maybe when danger has passed, Saisei could be allowed to use it recreationally. She scans the movement, and sees creatures of teal and blue, but the waves get in the way of a clear view. How they were supposed to use this with the ocean moving so  is a mystery to the woman. "Not as such, captain. I can see something there, but I'd as soon call it a dolphin than anything. I'm afraid that my expertise lies in land fauna and flora, not creatures of the sea. This is my first time on the ocean, let alone near it." She looks a bit dejected for not having the answer that the sailor sought.
That's fine!  They die just like plain ol' goblins .. alright .. i want you to choose a tar bomb from my crate here .. It'll teach those Grindylow whose boss. HIt them on the head if they get on the side of the ship but do not throw them on the deck. We had a big fire last time. Head to the Starboard side and watch for them to swim up as we pass by. They are real fast swimmers and decent climbers so be prepared. You can take a pair of these octogrip barnacles we got too and hang off the side of the ship if ye prefer and ye can get a real good view. // OOC move your tokens from the kelpie storage over to the starboard side of the ship where you would like to be. If you use the grips you should avoid falling in the water because the grips provide a big bonus to climb because they grant a climb speed. You can find the tar bombs in the BNW Items compendium and you can find out about climb speed on the PRD
Sellion looks around " Where would you suggest would be a good position to post myself up to get shots at them captain, since I don't believe I can use the barnacles and shoot a bow at the same time. " He would then look to the other two " If either of you wish for the barnacles to get up close to fight them, be my guest as Kiba and I will be staying on deck to repel them off. If neither of you want it though I can take the tar bomb and see what I can do with it. " Sellion would then begin to string his bow, preparing it for the battle that was ahead of them. 
Anywhere on the starboard rail, me boy!  We'll pass the rock to port, and they'll come from there.
Sellion then nodded, once the bow was strung he went over to the starboard rail, taking a arrow from his quiver and notching it as he prepared for them to start swimming up. He then looked to Kiba and spoke to her " Kiba, protect me and make sure if any get on the ship to attack them. " With that Kiba gave out a small meow and prepared for battle as they waited for the creatures to begin their attack.
When the captain actually named the dark objects in the crate, Saisei slunk backward a couple paces. She raised a hand in protest, not wanting to touch that scorpion nest. That they continued using those things after a large deck fire amazed her. At the captain's command, though, she paced to a position on the starboard side and closer to the stern. "Here's good," she announced to the captain and the other passengers. "I'd be shark meat if they actually got close to me. I just need to see them, if that's all fine with you." At first it could be assumed she was wringing her hands, but in fact Saisei was cracking her knuckles individually and flexing her fingers back and forth.

As the Grindylow's begin to climb up the ship, Sellion begins to draw back the bowstring, aiming at the wretched creature closest to him before letting the arrow loose. The arrow flies, whistling through the air as it then strikes into the side of the Grindylow causing it to let out a shriek of pain as it continues to try to climb the ship. Sellion then notches another arrow, preparing to let another loose as Kiba growls, readying herself in-case any of the creatures gets on board or attempts to attack her beloved owner. ( Attack: 18, Damage: 5 ) ( Kiba readies an action to attack if any get near her or Sellion )
(Will save for Grindylow rolled 12, save 16, down it goes). From her position along the stern, Saisei could only help but watch the grindylows swimming toward the rigging. She knew next to nothing about combat with living things, unless you count deer nibbling on the conclave garden plants. She did know that there were only so many volleys of energy hidden inside her. Saisei had to wait until they were close in order to ensure no effort is misspent. One scouting Grindylow managed to lift itself out of the water, and the spritely mage reacted. Lifting a hand through the air like she was scooping water, she up-ended it and pressed an imaginary nothing downward. The Grindylow faltered, teetered, and fell into the water. With any hope, she had put a 'deep' (and grindylow) in deep-sleep.
(attack 8 damage 4) Lightning Beard quickly draws his rapier and runs to the grindylow. but when he attacks he trips on a loose board losing his footing, the grindylow is able to block his attack. Lightning Beard quickly back steps and hopes no one saw him trip.

(Will save 21 vs 16) It goes without saying that Saisei is new to all of this. These aren't practiced movements of her former order; they are barely grasped at by the woman herself. In any case, Saisei spots another slippery devil crawling up the railing along the stern of the ship. She uses the same hand motion again, and nothing happens. She repeats it for safety's sake, but while the squid-thing blinks a few times, it doesn't pass out.
Sellion aims for the Grindylow again, letting loose the arrow as it whistles through the air. This time the Grindylow was prepared though as it dodged the arrow, cackling and shooting a large toothy grin at Sellion. At this, Kiba lets out the mightiest ( and cutest ) little rawr that she could and charges forward attempting to bite at the wretched creature. As Kiba jumped into the air though to bite at its neck, it managed to back up and dodge out of the way, cackling as Kiba stood in front of it ready to protect her beloved owner. ( Sellion: Attack: 13, Damage: 4 ) ( Kiba: Attack 9, Damage: 5 )
Slot 3  The grindylow, seeing the magic user's spell fail, still doesn't want to close, so throws his spear (Attack 20).  Saisei is spun around by the force of the spear piercing her shoulder (Damage 2) and is almost driven to the deck, but manages to remain standing. The one next to Kiba decides to not risk trying to get around the leapord and strikes at her with his spear (attack 8), missing and stumbling to one knee. The final grindylow, jumps off the foc'sle, landing next to Sellion and stabbing at him (Attack 12) in an offbalance attack that misses by a hair.
Upon dodging the attack, Sellion drops his bow to the ground and pulls out his Elven Curved Sword as he takes a large slash at the Grindylow near him, missing as it dodged to the side and he swings into the air. All the meanwhile, Kiba dodged to the side of the Grindylow attacking her, responding back with a onslaught of fury swipes as she went to bite and claw the Grindylow's face off.. missing as the small kitten missed due to her small height, still growling cutely at the creature. ( Sellion: Attack 7, Damage 5 ) ( Kiba Attack 12,10,4 Damage 5,3,3 )
Crying out in pain, the small woman grips the hole made by the fallen spear. She'd been injured by animals before, worse than that. Didn't stop it from hurting, though. Fearing that the beast she is facing down is somehow immune to her attacks, Saisei climbs the set of six stairs to get on level with the creature. With her injured hand, she conjures a tanglevine whip and throws it around the grindylow's remaining weapon, trying to yank it away from it. With the injury, though, the shoulder stabs her again and she barely lacks the strength to pull it away. (Tanglevine CM attack 11, 1 short of CMD.)

Slot 1 The three grindylow all close and make spear attacks, each with the same disappointing result. //ooc: Attack 10 vs 13, 8 vs 16, 13 vs 20
(Tanglevine CM attack 22) As the grindylow approaches and stabs with his spear, Saisei uses its failed momentum and positioning to get another attempt at removing its only remaining weapon. The cord springs from her healthy hand at point blank range. It wraps around the shaft quickly and the woman rips with her back. The polearm gets thrown to the ground and Saisei steps on it, preventing it from being picked up.

Sellion swiftly dodges the stab, huffing as he didn't like fighting up close and personal with the nasty creature, taking the opportunity at hand he then quickly began to lift his blade again and slash at the beast, this time striking true with great force as the Grindylow next to him was cut cleanly in half and severed in two as he made a mess of the deck as blood splattered everywhere. Upon seeing his foe sliced in two he let out a sigh of relief before hearing a familiar growl and turning to Kiba. Whilst Sellion was cutting one in two, Kiba let out another angry barrage of bites and swipes at her opponent, having a hard time connecting due to her small size as she was unable to reach her opponent. ( Sellion: Attack 23 Crit Con 24, Damage 11 Crit Damage 9 ) ( Kiba: Attack 6,0,4 , Damage: 4,3,3 )
SLOT 2: The Grindylow try to trip the kitten and the red-haired human, flailing their tentacles around your feet and throwing you off balance. The kitten manages to hold her ground, but the woman topples to the ground. The unarmed grindylow grabs its spear, and the other stabs at the kitten (hitting a 20 AC for 3 damage). The one in the water is left behind, as the Kelpie continues on it's course towards the island.
Upon hearing the cry of pain of his Kiba, Sellion charges past her up the stairs and rolling to dodge a possible attack by the Grindylow getting behind it as she brought his sword up to swiftly crash back down in anger.. missing the Grindylow by a long shot as he was blinded by rage. The hurt Kiba, having took a decent cut on her growled in pain and swiftly tried to retaliate by attacking.. but once again the small kitten was to small for the Grindylow as she couldn't hit him.
(Saisei is at -2 HP from a Grindlylow AOO, while standing up.) Thrown to the ground, Saisei is moreso thrown out of her element - no beat she ever tended had ever tripped her fore. She scrambled to get up, but the Grindylow took advantage - and struck hard in her thigh. The pain wasn't as bad as it could have been, but Saisei blacked out anyway.
Hearing cries from above, Puddles decided hiding in the hold for any longer was a foolish thing to do. Drinking for a few moments before mounting one of his companions, he charged up the stairs, bomb-chucker in hand! He flings one behind the grindylow, narrowly missing the injured woman. He moves towards her, healing potion in his other hand. He might need these people once he gets on the island.
