LF GM Dark Heresy (40k rpg)

I sent him a text no answer so I'm not sure...I wouldn't worry about it. Also I have barely played these types of games..like three hours tops my whole life so I am really fresh at this. So I may need those few playthroughs to understand it all too. I may ask which dice roll do I use and such but I do understand kind of how to use roll20 so that helps.
Quick Reference: 2d10 plus HWBonus for Stats 1d100 for Skill checks, lows good, high bad. everything else is in your character sheet for what rolls to make.
HWBonus?
When you picked your homeworld (hive, void, Imperial, etc) they come with their own bonuses for your stats to add to An example we'll use is the Hive World: You roll a 2d10 for your stats and then add the following bonus as a Hive Worlder WS: 20 BS: 20 S: 20 T: 15 ag:20 Int:20 Per:20 WP:20 Fel:25 Meaning: Your Homeworld decides what to add into your attributes (HW Bonus) so if you are a Hive Worlder, and you roll a 20 on your WS: Then you add in the HWBonus which is 20 to get 40.
Peter could you provide an example using the stats above for common encounters - say a melee attack roll, a "gun" attack roll, some of the more common type rolls. Thanks
When would the HWBonuses be used?
Alright, we will say we are on the offense and say we rolled a 9 and a 5 on our 2d10(+20) giving us 34 on our Weapon Skill Now, in a fight, you first roll your initiative (1d10+AB[Agility Bonus]), higher the better. When it is your turn, you take an action, which can range from Full Actions(Things that take a full turn) or a half-action(Which takes up half a turn, and allows you to do something else). You also get 1 reaction, which you use when it's not your turn, allowing you to make such tests such as dodging or parrying(remember, you only get one so use it wisely). Another action is the Extended action which takes more than one round(one or two rounds to set up, another round to use). Now, we'll assume you're using a standard attack, which is a half-action(meaning you can use it twice). You roll your weapon skill at 1d100 and, if it's below 34, you hit and then you roll for location of your attack (1d100), let's assume you get 5 and thus hit his head. Now, you roll your damage +Damage and Strength bonus. We'll assume the weapon you're using is a 1d10 weapon and you get a 10, thus triggering something called 'Righteous Fury' and allowing you to roll again, doing more damage. Second roll, you get a 6, doing 16 damage overall+ Strength bonus. Now you subtract the person's Toughness and armor, we'll say he had a toughness of 10 and 0 armor, meaning your attack is subtracted by 1 and only does 15 damage. When all that is done, you have a half-action left to do what you want, and that is your standard Melee Attack. That is it explained, here is what I just said simplified: ---------------------------------------------------- Weapon Skill is 34(from rolling 2d10+20HWBonus) In a fight, you roll an Initiative of 9(1d10+agility bonus) Take a half-action to move(if need be) and a half-action to attack(standard) You rolled below your Weapon skill (34) and now roll hit location and got 5(head). Roll damage as indicated on your weapon and got a 10(if 1d5, then roll 1d10/2, if ya roll a 10, follow as indicated) and gained righteous fury(Nat 20) and roll again for more damage and rolled a 6, doing a total of 16 damage. Enemy has 0 armor and 10 toughness(Toughness bonus of 1) and so withstands one damage of the attack, making you only deal 15 damage to your melee. If you didn't move anywhere and the enemy was right there, then you can make another half-action.
HWBonus is used when rolling your character, they determine your starting characteristics
Creating Threads under 'ask a GM' to sort this out, if you wish to ask questions about this stuff, consult there or PM me on the Forums there, it'll be more organized them it is here, that's for sure.
Okay see that is where the confusion came in I thought you meant there was an additional use of the HWBonus other than character creation stats....I understand how to attack and such it's more of the skill checks outside of attacking that I am worried about. No i understand how to point and shoot...lol. I was confused because I had made my PC and thought the bonuses tied in somewhere else. sorry to make you type that all out man.
It's okay, there may be someone else out there that needs it simplified.
It's okay, there may be someone else out there that needs it simplified. Yep that someone is me :). Excellent use of the OP Forum function. I asked here because I cant get to OP from work and I was curious. I check this thread periodically at work when the OPTEMP slows a bit or am eating lunch etc... I dont smoke - so I take a "forum break" :)
Alright, well if you got any more questions, just ask.

My first DIVO tour I had a big Division and I had a bunch of smokers and they would take breaks to go smoke and I had non-smokers and there was always a bit of an issue. So I created a "basketball" break where the non-smokers could go and shoot the sh*t and play some hoops for 10-15 mins. Made the 12hr watches a little easier to endure.
oh I'm sure....i hear stories of my brother's twelves or fourteens on his ships that he has been on. I was never stationed on one i was always on the ground...ironic though i didn't want to go on a ship yet i joined the navy.
That happens :)
So, when does the game start tonight?
830pm just like the calendar says :)

2030 what timezone? The calendar is showing 630 cst.
I'm starting to think it translates it for whatever timezone you are in...but i may be wrong.
Sorry all my times are EST, so 830pm EST.
I will try to be on around 8pm if there are any last minute questions.
We are live - waiting for the last couple of guys to show...

Given the nature of people's schedule we probably will have folks miss certain sessions so feel free to join up. The group could really use a member with more investigative skill sets like an Arbiter, but play what interests you most. I use Obsidian Portal to schedule the game and post info between games - look for the link in the thread. You'll need to just join up there and generate a character. There should be some links in this thread with online character generators.
For the group - Fantasy Flight Games is releasing a new game in the WH40K RPG universe called "Only War". It's focus is the Imperial Guard. I am a big fan of the Imperial Guard novels by Dan Abnett so I have a lot of source material banging around in my head. I am also a HUGE fan of the Ciaphas Cain novels. Anyhow an opportunity to beta test has come my way and if there is any interest in running a few of these games - let me know and I'll grab the rules. Rules are very similar to Dark Heresy but much more combat oriented.

I'm going to go over the rules a bit more and try to make up a character, so if a space is open I am ready! I would also be interested in the Only War campaign.
So i take it i didn't do a well enough job the first time as an arbitrator...lol.
Arbiter? Do you mean an Arbite or Arbitrator?
Arbiter? Do you mean an Arbite or Arbitrator? I mean the Adeptus Arbites also known as the Arbitrators. So i take it i didn't do a well enough job the first time as an arbitrator...lol. You did great, but the more investigative types the better. I liked your train of thought on a couple of things. I actually adjusted on the fly because of your inquiries. Mike - you are more than welcome to join the Only War campaign. If you guys want to buy your own copies of it, it's only at DriveThruRPG. I don't know if it can be found in alternate sources around the Internet.
Damn, 20 bucks, that is 20 bucks I don't got D:
It's funny you say that...Derek was said I was thinking too much into it....so next time i was going to try and pull back...I like details in solving something and I liked me knowing it rather than my character just knowing it....but to make the game go quicker i will pull back some and only ask what i need to...since i wasn't rolling on most of those questions....and i really didnt have search.
I was looking through the Samples of Only War and immediately squealed with Glee, you can create your own regiment! Awesome!!
Very interested in playing, can I join ?
So only war is more army based rather than people based....that may change things...does it have strategy involved or just shoot and kill?
No, no, it's player based, but you play as an Imperial Guardsmen instead of the Inquisition
ALRIGHT: From what I read in the Beta Book, we are all part of the same squad of guardsmen, the Regiments/Regiment Creation is who we belong to, so that requires us to get together and find out who we want to be with.
oh well im out of town the second week i think Wil is going to test it out with you guys given that the majority wants to.
To speed things along. I will probably assign the Regiment to you. I am thinking the Tanith First and Only. You will be members of Gaunt's Ghosts.
