Monster Manual Official Bug Thread

Kristin C. said: Thanks, Adrian. I made a copy of that game and dragged and dropped some monsters from the MM and they were able to transfer over without any issue. What this suggests is that something browser-side on your end is likely disrupting the Javascript running that allows the drag and drop to work completely. If you haven't done so yet, I would try clearing your cache and disabling any extensions you might have running in the background to make sure that isn't causing additional problems with your game. We're finding that old caches of character sheets can cause issues here since the drag and drop dunctionality is reliant on the character sheet's logic. UPDATE: I dug through it again, it looks like all your journal entries are hidden from view in the journal tab. I can bring them up if I ALT+doubleclick on a token to pull the journal up, but it's not something you can locate under the journal tab. Was this an issue before or after you started testing bringing in MM creatures? Yeah, I'm not sure what to do next. I've tried it on two different computers with two different browsers (opera and chrome). I've cleared the cache multiple times. But in my Exiles of Moldvay game (or any copy) when I drag a monster from the compendium nothing appears to happen. But the monster does show up in the journal. However that monster just shows a blank PC character sheet, no associated information except for the image. It works fine in any brand new game I set up. Ultimately I can go through the process of transferring things over. It's not a massive task or anything. But it'd be nice not to have to do that. Suggestions? AD

See the entry below: Splitting thrown weapons into two weapon seems.. strange. as it does not match how it looks in the monster manual, the wotc SRD, or the roll20 SRD.
Appendix A: Miscellaneous Creatures and Appendix B: Nonplayer characters (perhaps others?) lead to a 'not found' message.

AD I checked my copy today, and now I have complete access to the Journal tab. I think my browser decided to punk me last night. *grumbles* I can now drag MM tokens into your game copy as expected. Can you share a console log when you drag and drop a Compendium monster to the Tabletop and it fails?

Eric B. said: Appendix A: Miscellaneous Creatures and Appendix B: Nonplayer characters (perhaps others?) lead to a 'not found' message. Thank you for pointing that out to us. This appears to be an issue with our in-app browsing. Likely due to the ":" character in the title of these pages. We've changed the colon to a hyphen in the title and both pages should now open correctly in-app.

AD Adrian, I took a look at the back end of your game and found a macro, specifically "killa", had some encoded characters that were causing our back end servers to choke. A whole section of the Roll20 app wasn't loading correctly including the compendium drag and drop functionality. I made a copy of your game where I removed your macros and found that fixed all the problems. I left the copy for your review. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Totally fixed it. I really appreciate your taking the time. The absolute best part about that is that I have almost no memory of creating that macro. It was clearly just something I did when I was experimenting with roll20 features, probably 4 years ago. And since it wasn't showing up as anything other than a grey space under my icon, I never thought about it again. Thank you again! AD
I know that the SRD overlap with MM1 cosmetic issue is a known problem, but is there any ETA as to when this might be corrected?

Splitting one weapon into 2+ actions. On the one hand, this is an artifact of Roll20 not letting you include both a reach and a range for thrown weapons isn't it, and seems a bit unnecessary when the attack bonus and damage rolls are identical. But for versatile weapons or any situation where the weapon does different damage ranged vs melee, having two separate actions is definitely the way to go. I would personally love to see the OGL sheet let me display Attack and Damage rolls for players (no whisper) but hide/whisper the secondary effects (what happens if you fail your Con save for example) rather than blatting them into the chat log in an all or nothing fashion. A checkbox to let you display the contents of that textbox selectively - on by default - would be awesome. (I'd also like to see Ability save attacks such as those for spells improved in the OGL sheet too so you don't have to fiddle around to get the damage to appear without an attack roll but I guess that's a feature request.) ALSO: Things like sneak attack. There should ideally be a "Sneak Attack" button which simply rolls and displays the extra sneak attack damage for example. (Ideal if this were the actual entry itself.)

I spent some time testing MM for Shaped sheet. I tested All monsters on Firefox and Chrome with two Shaped sheet versions official v7.12.2 and manually installed v9.0.1. I will report all issues found here and in Shaped issue tracker. All testing was done in new, fresh games created for testing, without any scripts and with browser cache cleared. Environment: Chrome 56.0.2924.87, Shaped v7.12.2 Firefox 50.1.0, Shaped v7.12.2 Chrome 56.0.2924.87, Shaped v9.0.1 Firefox 50.1.0, Shaped v9.0.1 Issue 1: Tokens droped from journal are not scaling or are not visable Steps to reproduce: 1. Drag and drop Monster creature from compedium (Use creature with size bigger than medium) 2. After monster is processed and added to journal go to journal and drag and drop same creature from there Result: Shaped v7.12.2 - Token is not visable, only small, green life bar appears on board. Shaped v9.0.1 - Token is visable but does not scale with its size. Every big creature appears as medium size 5 by 5 foot. Note: Creatures smaller than medium scale well for v9.0.1 but are not visable for v7.12.2 v9.0.1 screenshot: v7.12.2 screenshot:

If anyone is using Shaped sheet I do not recommend to buy MM. It is broken.

Thank you for pointing out the Spy's missing graphic issue. That should be fixed up now. As for sheet compatibility with the Monster Manual: We only officially support the Roll20's 5th Edition OGL character sheet as that is the sheet we built in-house and the one we can reliable keep synced and up-to-date with any and all content we provide on Roll20. The Compendium was designed with the Roll20's 5th Edition OGL sheet in mind and this is mentioned on the Marketplace page for the Monster Manual. All other 5E sheets available are community created. Compatibility of new Roll20 features is reliant on the individual sheet creators/authors/editors making updates to remain up-to-date. That being said, we're more than happy to help out any sheet creators if they have any questions on how to adopt existing or new Roll20 features. When it comes to community-created sheets like the Shaped Sheet, we please ask for patience to allow their sheet creators the time they need to update their own work. These community members are volunteers and they don't have advanced access to our products to edit or overhaul their own sheets.

Thank you for your answer. I that case I think that there should be some kind of disclaimer for products like MM. If product is not compatible with some sheets that are build in roll20 I should know about it before I drop 50$ on it. I hope Shaped creator will be able to fix MM issues.

I had created an NPC template (Roll20's 5th Edition OGL sheet) with abilities macros that I could just drag and drop an SRD monster into. Then I would have to create my own tokens for them. With MM1, I can drag and drop the monster onto my template to use all the macros but it does not clone the image or token. So, either I drag and drop the monster onto my game, and add all the macros manually, or I have to create tokens. Is there a way to get the MM1 tokens to be added to when you drop it into an NPC handout?

Miodziek: I know that in the coming 9.1.0 version, the Shaped creator Kryx has already fixed many of the issues with the MM (for example, for the monsters with legendary actions reported above). Unfortunately, the specifications of the MM were not communicated to sheet creators in any way in advance by Roll20, so the only thing he can do is clean up afterwards. There's some parts of it that should already be fixed in the work-in-progress version. If you want to help make it work, you could join the test game for the Shaped sheet, test dragging some monsters, and report bugs on the Shaped sheet's bug tracker. I know that Kryx does not own the MM himself, so he depends on others for testing this stuff. EDIT: Saw you already did that, so nevermind :).

These community members are volunteers and they don't have advanced access to our products to edit or overhaul their own sheets. Hi Kristin, The issue with the monsters that Miodziek has raised is their formatting. I depend on the "content" to have a consistent formatting. It does not. Example: Every monster in the SRD consistently formatted their attacks like so: \n\n**Bite**: Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (2d10 + 8) piercing damage. Some monsters in the monster manual use a different syntax: \n\n** \n Multiattack**: The goblin makes two attacks with its scimitar. The second attack has disadvantage. That \n is rather important because when that is parsed in regex it is a line break which regex cannot handle. No SRD creature that I know of has this same problem. All of these issues boil down to the actual content of the monsters not being consistent. This is likely due to some rich text editor, but since you're expecting custom sheets to parse this data then that data should be clean enough to parse. I could clean it myself, but this should really be fixed on the compendium imo. EDIT: I've cleaned it myself for 9.1.0, but that won't be coming out this next week. This should still be fixed in the compendium.

Either that or something is broken in my game and the tokens aren't coming in as intended. I am experiencing similar issues. I purchased the Monster Manual, but every icon I pull from the Compendium tab does not have stats in the "character Sheet" of the appropriate icon in the Journal tab. They are coming through as blank character sheets but the link to the compendium stats are still there. Very loyal customer for many years, but so far this has been a waste of $50 - I hope a fix will come in soon as I like this site.

Tokens should no longer be propagating without being filled out first and complicated monsters like the Beholder should have their sheets filled out with all of it's Actions and Traits. Let me know if you run into any trouble. Just wanted to chime in with a thanks - this has fixed the issues I was having. I'm really enjoying the functionality of the MM, and appreciate the work that the Roll20 team does to make my sessions better, including both products and the responsive support here on the forums.

Are you pulling the compendium entry from the journal tab and dropping it onto the tabletop like this? If you had previously imported it several days ago before we patched the process and it came through empty or broken, you'll need to delete the entry out of the journal and re-import it. If none of that solves the issue, then to assist you we'll need more information. Your OS, Browser and Version, a screen shot, and a console log.

Just bought the monsters manual and NOT A SINGLE monster has any stats. Totally disappointed. Think I want a refund on this. It creates an empty character sheet. The front page has the information and there's a token. That's it!!! I still have to build the actions. Yeah. I'd like a refund. It really shouldn't be this complicated. Wolfric posted over here : I just purchased the MM and dragging and dropping the tokens doesn't seem to be working. Im assuming that I have to open up a second window of roll20 in order to drag and drop the token. Anyone else having this problem? and/or has a solution

Currently the MM works with the OGL sheet, and it will work with the Shaped sheet in the near future (it sort of works for some monsters now). It will not work with any other character sheet.
I'm having an issue where when I first pull a character out from the MM that it creates the journal entry and works just fine. However every time I try to pull the charcter out after that from the journal the picture doesn't show up. I haven't beenable to find a fix for this and end up having to find other icons. Is there a fix for this issue?

Kimberly you are using Shaped sheet v7.12.2? If yes, it may be same bug I reported earlier. I know that Kryx was able to fix this issue, fix will be implemented in version 9.1.

I think I've found an error going through the monster list. When I open up Category:Monsters (or search for Succubus) I see: Succubus MM1 Succubus (Incubus) SRD When I click on the SRD entry, the entry shows: Not Found (Deleted)

Known Issues There is a known cosmetic issue in-app where monster entries that exist in both the SRD and in the Monster Manual won't show the correct source (They'll show up as SRD instead of MM1) and also not have their token thumbnail listed; however, the entries will still link to their Monster Manual counterparts and will not affect their drag and drop abilities in game. Yeah, I saw the top post on that (see above), but this seems different. I'm seeing both an SRD entry and a MM1 entry, and the SRD entry links to an error page. If that is part of this fix then great, but just wanted the devs to be aware in case this was a different issue.

This thread is for users who are having issues with their Monster Manual purchase. Loren S. said: I think I've found an error going through the monster list. In the MM, we have a nice graphic for both creatures. While they're the same beastie, we decided to split their entries so you could have a token featuring an incubus or a succubus. When we first began work on the MM, we did a hard copy of the SRD to start as the base, so that "Succubus (Incubus)" page got carried over to the MM, but isn't in use. We probably need to refresh the index so that now defunct page is no longer showing up in Category:Monsters.

Kryx said: Kristin C. said: Thank you for pointing out the Spy's missing graphic issue. Kryx, can you tell me which monsters you've found so far that have that syntax error and what exactly happens on your sheet when a drag and drop occurs?

Hi Kristin, Thanks for the reply. The real solution would be to have all of this data in JSON. However monster data is not stored like that. The data is only provided via the content field, thus we have parsing. The content in the content field is not consistent, causing problems. You can see a list of all of the monsters where this data is not consistent provided by Miodziek above: Animated Armor - Multiattack Ankylosaurus - Tail Allosaurus - Bite, Claw Displacer Beast - Tentacle Drider Spellcaster - Spellcasting (1-4 level spells) Empyrean - Missing all actions and traits Faerie Dragon - Missing all actions and traits Flameskull - Magic Resistance, Rejuvenation, Spellcasting (1-3 level spells), Multiattack, Fire Ray Flumph - Missing all actions and traits Fomorian - Missing all actions and traits Galeb Duhr - Missing all actions and traits Gas Spore - Missing all actions and traits Githyanki Knight - Missing all actions and traits Githyanki Knight - Missing all actions and traits Githzerai Monk - Missing all actions and traits Githzerai Zerth - Missing all actions and traits Gnoll Fang of Yeenoghu - Rampage, Bite, Multiattack Gnoll Pack Lord - Missing all actions and traits Goblin Boss - Multiattack, Scimitar, Javelin (Melee) Grell - Multiattack, Beak Helmed Horror - Magic Resistance, Spell Immunity, Multiattack, Longsword (One-Handed) Hobgoblin Captain - Missing all actions and traits Hobgoblin Warlord - Multiattack, Longsword (One-Handed, Longsword (Two-Handed), Shield Bash, Javelin (Melee), Leadership, Parry Hook Horror - Missing all actions and traits Intellect Devourer - Missing all actions and traits Jackalwere - Missing all actions and traits Kenku - Missing all actions and traits Kuo-toa - Missing all actions and traits Kuo-toa Archpriest - Amphibious, Otherworldly Perception, Slippery, Sunlight Sensitivity, Spellcasting 1-5 level spells, Multiattack, Scepter Kuo-toa Monitor - Amphibious, Otherworldly Perception, Slippery, Sunlight Sensitivity Kuo-toa Whip - Missing all actions and traits Lizard King or Queen - Missing all actions and traits Lizardfolk Shaman - Multiattack, Bite (Lizardfolk Form), Claws (Lizardfolk Form Only), Change Shape Marid - Amphibious, Elemental Demise, Innate Spellcasting, Multiattack, Water Jet, Trident (Melee; One-Handed) Roc - Beak Winged Kobold - Missing all actions and traits As mentioned above the creatures that I have been able to verify from that list all have the extra "\n" character in the name of their actions/traits/etc. Empyrean for example has **\nMagic Resistance**: When it should have **Magic Resistance**: which matches what all of the SRD monsters have.

Thanks Kristin. One other thing to mention is the consistency around Actions/Traits/Legendary Action/Lair Actions/Regional Effects. All of those use the same syntax: \n NAME \n\n Some have some differences between the number of line breaks (the "\n"), but all have a line break before and after at least Adult Gold Dragon for example \n\n\n\n Traits\n\n**Amphibious**: \n\n Actions\n\n**Multiattack**: \n\n\n\n Legendary Actions\n\nThe dragon However Regional Effects is not surrounded by line breaks. one is occupied. Regional Effects\n\n\nThe If Regional Effects could follow that same format that's be helpful. Example: \n\n Regional Effects\n\n\nThe Thanks again for looking into this. It'd be helpful to me and any future consumers of the compendium.

Kimberly if you are using Shaped then it is v7.12.2 which is official version right now. You can only update sheet manually using custom sheet feature if you have Pro account. Any day now version 9.0.1 should be available for everyone as official version. In 9.0.1 tokens are visable when droped from journal but still have problem with size scaling reported by me earlier in this thread. Scaling issue will be fixed in future 9.1 version of the sheet but I have no idea when 9.1 will be available. Cheers.

For other Shaped updates feel free to ask on that thread.
I have found that when there is an existing character in the journal with the same name as a compendium entry, that when one attempts to drag the MM/SRD entry out of the compendium that instead the existing token is dropped on the battlemap and no compendium information is produced in the journal. I would think that a new instance (new character) should be created instead, possibly with the same name or an interation. Is the current situation the desired behaviour?
Also when will the Azer and other NPCs with missing actions and attributes be fixed? We're not sure whether to wait or just fix them ourselves.
Michael said: I had created an NPC template (Roll20's 5th Edition OGL sheet) with abilities macros that I could just drag and drop an SRD monster into. Might have gotten lost in the shuffle so just reposting.
