My suggestion for this. Have map pins be on their own layer (right above map layer), or perhaps as part of the map layer. Have them function as a token with a tooltip, but without all the other baggage, shortcuts, extra bubbles, stats, and information that a having token requires. Just a visual thing on the map that displays information on hover. Said tooltip text for a map token would have full formatting support, and plenty of space for larger amounts of text. Double clicking it would open the "gm notes" section (or something that looks similar), where text with formatting can be entered. From any layer the map pins can display information by hovering over them. This saves the GM time to switch to the map or gm layer to have the information displayed. An optional setting could be switched on or off to lock it to one layer or not. Possibly, could toggle on and off if a player could view the map pin "token" or not.

Maybe something like Maptools? if anyone here is familiar with the Object/info layer on there. Or heck, that and allowing a click to open so a runnign log about a location can be seen by the players?
Hey Folks, I just moved this into researching. What does that mean!?! Well, it means that we're looking to see if this is something we can do in the "Coming Soon" range, but that requires some thought and plans. I know you've spent years thinking and talking about it, but if you're winning to spend a little bit more time talking with us about your ideas OR giving us some feedback on some ideas that we have, I'd love to chat. Here is a link you can use to set some time up on my calendar to chat! https://calendly.com/acsearles/map-pins Thanks again for your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you.
why is nobody responding to this person who has just dropped mega news , ill say Andrew if I may .... I got to experience the walk through a couple of weeks ago (the tutorial) and I was thinking wow I didn't even think of this . After going through it I said wow this would be awesome , and come to find out people have been asking for this for years (6 or more to be exact) ! I scheduled through Calendly for the 18th which is in 8 days away - for I believe 8:30 pm , ill have to see what time that is on my time ( I am in Virginia) . I am excited , I do not understand how we are going to communicate though as it was not very clear on that part ! I have discord and some other ways we can , up to you- I just need to know before hand so I can make sure I have it downloaded (whatever way you want to use ) ! There is so much to say , I mean DND is truly taking off in this era and you guys at roll20 have come so far in keeping up but there is still much to do , so many cool things your teams can do and look into , I mean you guys and gals (roll20) are one of the only services people can play DND on online ! I wish you guys the best and I look forward to talking I only ask that you tell me more specifically how exactly we are going to talk it out ! Ill say this incase if something happens to the Appointment scheduled , please do not miss this opportunity to give the community something like this .... its game changing - there are a few people i found in the forums who have posted exactly what we want in specific detail ! All you guys have to do is hit somewhere in that ball park and the community to will be grateful to you ! One more thing , how has nobody responded to your comment on the post , you reached out and commented and nobody else has replied to you in 2 weeks unless I missed it ! I know everyone has lives ( as I work more than 50 hours or more a week ) away from home , but granted I get to sleep at home every night ..... I am not complaining but I am shocked that nobody responded in the 2 weeks since you have commented ! I look forward to meeting you. -Josh

+1 Sitting for 6 years, super useful thing for DMs, nice feature for players. Good hack day fodder.
This is amazing news. I was just looking over my map and trying to see through the wall of text I put in for an encounter and thought it would be great to have something I could just click that would pop something up. Hope this is still in the works! Andrew Searles said: Hey Folks, I just moved this into researching. What does that mean!?! Have a similar post put up for this please also give a +1 here cause would like to also have them by default include the map navigations as well as the icon to handout functionality. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12007358/interactive-world-map-with-region-and-battle-map-integration-and-handouts
+1 from me. Some sort of map pin with notes for players to read and GM section seems to be the way to go. Or link to Handouts. Wonder how this is going?
