Remember that the 2014 sheet existed for many ears without charactermancer. I am content to wait a while on this feature, but still feel that feedback on its many problems needs to be given ASAP, while changes and fixes are not yet hardened into stone. The compact sheet is better than the beta version, but still needs a lot of design work to be made readable. I plan on running a hybrid game with the 2014 as the main sheet, and the 2024 reserved for PCs. ... in a couple of months. There are too many issues right now. Keith - Is this a workaround - I'm going to set Rime of the Frostmaiden up with the 2014 Players Handbook as a shared resource but let my players use 2024 character sheets on DND Beyond and have Beyond20 running to do it's thing in Roll20. ?? Hope you see this Mike, I'm continuing it from the other thread. I can't speak for everyone or if this is a good workaround, but If I were about to start Rime of the Frostmaiden today, but wanted to use 2024 rules for player characters, this would be my plan: Create the game using the module in Jumpgate. Use the 2014 sheet to create the game. After the game is created, add the 2024 sheet as a second sheet and just use that for PCs. The Character Builder is not really ready yet. You might have success using it to build level 1 characters, you will likely need to tweak things until they are proper. At time of posting, you will need to level up manually, like we used to do before Charactermancer was built.* A lot of drag and drop for 2024 options will work for the 2024 sheet, but not for the 2014 sheet. By doing it this way, all of your monsters and NPCs should work just fine, out of the box. Token Action buttons will function, and most scripts (if you use them) will function normally for the NPC sheets. Since the Monster manual is not yet out, you'll be using 2014 monsters anyway. 2024 PCs will likely be an adjustment period, and be ready for unexpected upgrades or fixes as time goes on. Be prepared to "wing it" and run PCs manually if things break on game day. Be prepared for the fact that your 2014 monsters will be using 2014 spells. This may require some prep time to familiarize yourself with the differences if that matters for you. *Historical Note: The D&D 5e (2014) Sheet was built first. Years later, Charactermancer was introduced. Many months after that, level up was introduced. We seem to be in a similar cyle here, but accellerated compared to what happened the first time around. Keith, I know you as the most active person on these forums helping people left and right, but you seem to be missing the point. The first time around Roll20 was a fledgling company, and we didn't have a cornucopia of VTT options. Roll20 has been promising a fully functional new character sheet for over a year. I've participated in many playtest scenarios when I could have been prepping my games. They convinced me to pay more for the digital copy of the new PHB than what the physical version cost me, and I don't even get a PDF to share with my players. I am currently getting flooded by advertisements about a fully functioning new character sheet that is a bold faced lie. We made huge plans to start a new campaign with the new rules shortly after launch, but that's not possible. My players won't be able to make a 1st level character much less the 10th level ones we were planning. I can't populate a map with monsters because those sheets are also broken. I would need a week just to comb thru all these forums to find the many many workarounds I would need for basic functionality. Without major fixes asap, I will need to go to another VTT that works, and I will require a refund for not only the new rules bundle, but a whole lot of other content I purchased for use on Roll20 that I cannot use. Now I have to take the time to see which VTT didn't mess it up this bad.
