Not sure what the devs are doing that is so much more important or influential compared to this, but maybe they should reconsider their priorities? +1

Michael Patty said: Could someone with Roll20 please drop in and let us know WHY this can't be done? +1 It's ridiculous that this isn't an existing feature. They are making a start towards it with the custom classes and species, but they need to allow us to save these and not have to re-enter them every damn time. I have a HUGE amount of homebrew in my campaign (a 238 page guide worth).  I've had to make separate template character sheets  for the various species and the various spellcasting classes, and if I want to combine them, I have to fill in all the info and turn that into a template. I have like 30 ethnic types for humans. It's a massive amount of work. Then there are the 50 or so feats that I have in addition to the normal ones, the weapons and armour reinforcements that my players rarely use because they don't want to enter the info and set up the features, plus the adventuring equipment and magic items. It can take me a long time to prepare for a game.

Being able to drag it straight from the Compendium to their character sheet would be SO much easier.

+1, it's incredibly frustrating to mass-add custom spells (especially since I have to use existing cantrips to get proper cantrip progression, and they seemingly at random shift back to being Fire Bolt with the element changed). Alternatively, something as simple as CTRL + Click/Drag on elements of sheets would be a HUGE improvement. That plus cantrip progression working properly on the 2025 sheet would immediately solve the bulk of my problem.
When using an existing spell as a template for a new one, make sure to change the spell's name. This keeps the customized spell from being over-written by spells from the compendium.
